  1. I understand what you are trying to say. Christianity as contained in the Bible is divided into two parts. The old testament The New testament The old testament contains all the tales and stories right from Adam & Eve upto just before the birth of Christ. The old testament is a common book, it is shared by Christians, Jews, and Islam because the prophets of the old testament viz Adam, Abraham, Moses, Daniel etc, are common to all the 3 religions and are acknowledged by all as well. The jews and Islam have taken a lot of rules from the old testament. The jews have based their holy book called 'Torah' based on what was conveyed to them by Prophet Moses and I believe that Islam too has many tenets that are borrowed from the scriptures contained in the old testament. Christianity OTH starts from the New Testament, and the New Testament is the story of Jesus and his life and tales and his disciples. And yes there are a lot of similarities in those experiences with what is mentioned in Sikhi.
  2. ..RajuAre you suggesting Guru Gobind Sngh ji viewed Shiva the devta as a peer? 112307[/snapback] yes, I think that is a possibility. During the middle ages people were not as absolutist as they are today, atleast that is what I think.
  3. Gupt daasan daas ji, I had a long post on the same in the 'Dusht Daman' thread which was locked some time back. It is on this page: http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showtopic=12539&st=48 post #56

    Facial Hair

I really dunno wat to say Gupt daasan daas veerji. If a girl is facing rejection even from her family for the way she looks and is denting her confidence massively and due to which she is probably silently cursing God in her hearts for having made her in such a way. I personally think it is inhuman to see a person suffer in such a way. I think I am sure when Guruji referred to kesh, he referred to leaving the normal hair untouched and not referring to some facial or unwanted hair in women. But if he said that in context of a battle then he might have meant every single hair because there is no point in making yourself beautiful for the enemy.

    Facial Hair

Are you referring to Samson's hair or some instance in Sikhi ?? I would also like to hear Gupt daasan daas veerji's take on this issue ?

    Facial Hair

In the west the high use of plastics and packaged foods etc are suspected to have caused hormone imbalance in people living there because of exposure to micro-level quantities of certain substances that are used during manufacture of plastics and are believed to interfere in functioning of certain agents controlling production and ensuring balance of hormones in the body. This was revealed to me in a discussion with an Indian doctor who practised in England for a long period of time in the 70s and 80s. He quoted the results of a study conducted there which pointed to the above conclusion. As a result hormonal changes are reflected in different people differently as well. Slight nitpick, estrogen 'inhibits' (Inhibit=Supress) body hair and facial hair.

    Facial Hair

Facial hair growth is promoted by the hormone called 'testosterone', which is mainly present in men and it is also present in women in traces. Women have a hormone called 'estrogen' which inhibit the growth of facial hair and body hair etc. OTH it is also present in men albeit only in 'traces'. So in the natural course of things men would have predominance of testosterone and estrogen would dominate in women. Basically that clarifies how God had wished things to be. But when a person is growing up, it is possible that due to freak circumstances there can be a hormonal imbalance due to influence of unnatural substances like pestiscides or other man-made material that affects hormones and cause imbalance. If it is something man-made that has caused the hormonal imbalance then there is nothing wrong in revising it because that is not how God meant it to be in the first place in his scheme of things. It is just an abberation and can be reversed safely.
  8. Worshipped Shiv or acknowledged Shiv ?? It could possibly be the latter. Because my reference to various sources shows that Shiva/Civa is actually the character known the world over as Adam. Because there is no story like that anywhere else in the world and the Greeks just happen to recount a hellenicized version of a tale repeated by the ancient hindus. And that same tale came into the bible through Greek versions, because nowhere else in the world is there any such story of Adam. Worshipping Shiv is plain wrong because it represents love and worship of an human being or a human-like being. But if it is just an acknowledgement of Shiv as a peer, then it is understandable. I think it could be more of the latter and now it is being exaggerated by vested interests. JMTs.
  9. Brother just remember, circumstances maketh da man. today your circumstances dictate a certain behaviour, tomorrow the opposite might well be true because no one can predict the future.
  10. There is a time in every man's life when he rebels. Have patience and just let him be, because this is just a passing phase. Usually the people who rebel the most when they are young turn into the most hardcore religious later.
  11. Note what Gupt Daasan Das said, the restriction is on having a physical relationship or sumthin and not on having casual friendships.

    Facial Hair

But if one keeps cursing God on why he gave the person so much hair, and the person feels inferior and frustrated due to the state of her appearance, then it is much better to remove the hair (one can also respect God by not removing hair permanently) until the said person can get their confidence back and better sense can prevail. I think such things should not be forced upon anyone.

    Facial Hair

Hair is not natural on the face of women is it ?? But hair is natural on the face of men. So keep what is natural, and get rid of what is unnatural. Is that not how it should be ??

    Regarding sikh women

Sitting on 'tabiya' is equivalent to 'conducting a prayer' is it not ?? Plz correct me if I'm wrong ?
  15. Really depends upon your 'age' and where you are from ? If you are old enough then you could freely jump onto Paneet's second category because you have enough wordly experience to back you up. But OTH if you are young then it might serve you well to be sensitive and learn from other's experiences and not really reject everything offhand. But be careful not to 'actively participate' in all that you hear or share. It will help you shape up into a more confident individual of the second category.

    Regarding sikh women

If a sikh, christian, or hindu throws an apple into the air, it is only going to come down and not go upwards. Similarly there are certain principles which are common to all people irrespective of religion and it is a long-held 'perception' in mankind that God does not really fulfill your prayers if you are unclean. People are free to debate this to eternity as per their convictions, but if God is indeed fussy about cleanliness then I daresay there is nothing that humans can do about it. Similar conditions can also be found in babies wearing diapers and really old people wearing Adult incontinence diapers. Should they be allowed to conduct prayer because everything is contained in a diaper ??
  17. Let me tell you beforehand. Only if you have a broad-minded & very large hearted family and family members will they sit down to listen to you. Else no one usually listens to any one when you are down and out. They do ofcourse listen to you a lot when you are up and above and successful. That is life.
  18. Obviously God is testing you and he is checking your mettle. Just keep doing your karam. Eat good food, stock up one some good fruit juices, look after yourself and take good care of yourself, so if nothing works atleast keep yourself in good maintenance, but do not isolate yourself from the humanity, don't stop thinking about the poor & needy. Your family members might have poor opinion about you, but the waheguru knows exactly what's going on. Basically he is preparing you for the future. So as they say, stay in Chardi kala.
  19. Rupan Deol is a Singhnee herself.
  20. "Anyone non-Sikh who has read the quran with all it's threats and condemnations and then reads a Sikh writing that the Guru Granth Sahib also contains similar things will most likely be put off from reading the Guru Granth Sahib." Good point. Never compare yourself with fanatics.
  21. Muslims are of two kinds. One found in Dar-ul-Islam (Islamic country) and one found in Dar-ul-harb (House of war/Non-Islamic country). Canada is Dar-ul-harb and muslim who live in dar-ul-harb are usually well-behaved. It's only when they start getting a majority, that their real color is exposed. Like what happens recently in britain.
  22. he he he...even my mother used to say that. The reason she says u should not put your hands on the head is because it means that your hands are a burden on you. And apparently that is a very bad sign.
  23. We are a democracy yaar, here everyone gets beaten up whether you are black, blue, brown, or white. There is no discrimination in this whatsoever. Where else will you find such democracy :TH:
  24. Police in United States shoot to kill if you don't stop, you are espcially at risk if you are black. Their Iraq record is unparalleled, Japan record is well only 200,000. Then the Brits, the civilized statesmanly people who want to give shelter and protect all manner of Islamists just shot a guy who ran 8 times in the head. So only when you face the music, you dump human rights in the nearest trash can.
