  1. I dont think there is anyting in Gurmat that is against keeping idols.. It is the worship of idols that is prohibited. Unless you can prove that they worship these statues please stop spreading wrong information on the 3HO who matha dekh the same Guru as you
  2. Thank you very much Pal07. So you would say that the greatest challenge for sikhs is that young sikhs of today do not live up to the standards of behaviour when it comes to being a sikh? What about others, what do you belive is the biggest problem/challenge of sikhs today?
  3. Gurfateh What do you consider to be the main challenges for young sikhs living in the Europe? Is it issues of Kirpan and national law, sikhs turning to atheism, sikh girls turning wild, jatha divisions or what do you consider to be the biggest concerns for sikhs in Europe? Lets have a discussion on this I personally believe these jatha divisions are the greatest concern regarding the future. As a friend of mine noted "There are not many sikhs in Europe. There are many akj'ers, taksalis and nihangs though". What do you think are the biggest challenges to young sikhs?

    Re:

The show was good and Bhai Ranjit seems like an inteligent and educated person who know's what he is talking about
  5. it was a really good program and it was good that you invited the singh from the human rights lawyer group
  6. Guru fateh. THank you for your link bijla singh ji, i will look at it. What does it mean when one says Guru Nanak Maharaj is the only satguru from the beginning of time?
  7. Kam: I did'n reject what you said. I simply asked in what indian language yug can mean two, as i've never heard anyone say yug when reffering to the number two. If i sounded harsh i apologize. You say that the words in Gurbani has different meanings. is it possible that my interpretation is also correct when looking at the context? i think it was in the english commentary of bhavras amrit granth that i read that Guru Har Gobind in bhai Gurdas vaar says that the satguru takes avatar in each yuga. i think it was reffering to this pauri.
  8. KaM: its vaar 1 pauri 48. http://www.searchgurbani.com/main.php?book...=1&pauri=48 in what language does yug mean two?
  9. Gurfateh. I have read the pauri in the Vaars of Bhai GUrdass regarding the Waheguru mantar many times, but this time i came across something interesting. in the preceding pauri Guru Hargobind Sahib says that the Satguru takes avatar in each yug, and then this line is followed by the waheguru mantar pauri. The Sikhs prayed and asked that they have seen the six Gurus The true Guru, the knower of the unknowable and seer of the invisible told the Sikhs to listen to. The lineage of the Sodhis have been established on the sound foundation. In each and eveyr yug the satgur will take avatar. following: In Satyug, Visnu in the form of Vasudev is said to have incarnated and ‘V’ Of Vahiguru reminds of Visnu. The true Guru of dvapar is said to be Harikrsna and ‘H’ of Vahiguru reminds of Hari. In the the treta was Ram and ‘R’ of Vahiguru tells that rembering Ram will produce joy and happiness. In kalijug, Gobind is in the form of Nanak and ‘G’ of Vahiguru gets Govind recited. alternative translations and interpretations i've come across is that in satyug Vishnu in the form of vasudev was the satguru.. what do you guys think when lookiing at the context from the preceding pauri
  10. Im sorry, what i meant was if all of these sakhis are to be understood literally or if they are metaphoric? for instance some people say that the relationship with Krishna and the gopis symbolise the relationsship between God and the soul, and the story of the gopis is just allegorical. I am not questioning dasam bani, im just asking about how these sakhis are to be understood: Literally or metaphorically
  11. I have started reading Chaubis avatar, and i am really fascinated by its content. The purpose of the writing is given in the beginning "Whenever tyrans take birth, God takes avatar to secure Dharma"... Dharma has several meanings such as righteusness, religion and duty and i've noticed that all three aspects are covered as some of the avatars come to establish dharma by fighting a tyrant, whereas others come to guide help people when dharma in the form of religion has been lost.. Others come to prescribe people of their duties in this life.. I was really fascinated by this as i thought the chaubis avatar was only about fighting tyrants etc... The message is clear : God has and will always people on earth in times of distres. but my question is.. How much of chaubis avatar are we to belive in when it comes to the personal information regarding the various avatars (like Krishna at the river, Ram Chander throwing his pregnant wife out etc) there are 24 avatars whereas the first are in animal-form as the world was populated by animals at the time... i tried to find out which one of these avatars were the first sent to human beings, but could'n find the answer. can anyone help me find the answer to this?
  12. Hamas has the right to bomb israel as israel is the opresive state. The palestinians were kicked out of their houses and are now living in refugee camps in their own country. The entire israeli population above 18 can not be considered as civilians as all israelis undergo military service and they are potential soldiers. The only civilians in isarel are kids. Bombing a bus full of isrealis is like bombing a bus of opressors/settlers.. this is the truth even though it may sound harsh. The adult population in israel are living on stolen palestinian land which makes them occupiers.. as long as eacn woman and man keep living on stolen land they are occupiers and open for attack. if person X steals my house, and he invites his friends to live there afterwards, dont i have the right to kick all of them out, even though it was just person X who stole it? The ones who live there are as guilty as X as they are living in my stolen house. May God bless the palestinians with freedom.
  13. Yeah thats right harinder singh, lets burn and kill people .. wow thats great
  14. Your interpretation is in conflict with Sikh history as well as other shabads in Gurbani that tells people of other faiths to be true to their own religion. History tells us that muslims and hindues started fighting on regards of which religion Guru Nanak belonged to. If Guru Nanak did not give guidance for these two to improve within their own respective traditions, then why would they fight? If Guru Nanak simply told everyone to become sikhs, then why would muslims belive Him to be muslims, and hindues belive him to be hindu? You are right in the sense that Gurbani is guidance for mankind, but some shabads are primarily meant for muslims/hindues. This does not mean that sikhs can not learn from it. For instance when Gurbani tells muslims to wake up and do their morning namaz, then what can sikhs learn from it? we learn to wake up and do our path.. Our outer practice is different, but both are praying to the One God. If one says that all shabads in their literal wordings are meant for everyone where will be a huge chaos and contradictions.. see for instance: Kabhî cẖal na â▫i▫â panje vakẖaṯ masîṯ. ||70|| You never come to the mosque for your five daily prayers. ||70|| Uṯẖ Farîḏâ ujû sâj subah nivâj gujâr. Rise up, Fareed, and cleanse yourself; chant your morning prayer. Words niwaj and maseet are used here.. are you still going to say that the primary meaning of this shabad is not meant for muslims? Are you saying we as sikhs should go to the mosque each morning and do namaz, because this is what the text says? The meaning is clearly meant for muslims: wake up and pray... but as a secondary meaning yes, it goes for all belivers whatever their religion is: To wake up and chant the morning prayers. Here is what Pracheen panth parkash says about Guru Nanak in mecca: Couplet: Then all the doors shut themselves up, though everybody tried hard. There were Hajis from Punjab there. They recognised and introduced (the Guru). (12). Quatrain: They said, ‘He is Nanak the fakir acknowledged as a holy person both by Muslims and Hindus. He recognises Hindus and Muslims on an equal footing. Similarly they equally acknowledge him.’(13). He preaches hak under the name of ‘truth.’ He has made the world traverse the path of truth. He encourages Turks to express devotion in the Islamic manner and the Hindus in the Hindu tradition. He dissuades both from irreligion (kufar) and arrogance.’(14). also: Quatrain: On these lines he preached the truth and made both follow it. He read the Koran to Muslims and the Vedas to the Hindus and revealed their truths to both.(56). With regards to your commentary on: hoe musalim dheen muhaanai maran jeevan kaa bharam chukaavai || Become a true Muslim by following the guidance of truth only. Only then one can be free from the cycle of death and birth. where two other translation say: Becoming a true Muslim, a disciple of the faith of Mohammed, let him put aside the delusion of death and life. Becoming the true disciple of the faith of the Prophet, let him put aside the illusion of death and life. When one is translating/commenting upon a shabad its always nescesary to look at the context of the shabad and the context of the ones that the shabad is talking about. For instance if we read a text in sikhi mentioning haram and halal we will interpret it as 2 of the four bujar kurehits; mainly adultary and eating meat, but if sikhs are reading a text about Islam and we come across these two words, WE CAN NOT put our own meanings of these two words, and apply it for the meaning in the islamic text, as haram and halal means "that which is permissible" and "that which is forbidden" in an islamic context... Same thing goes here.. For this reason i would exclude the interpretation you have given as "Only then one can be free from the cycle of death and birth" as muslims do not belive in this, and as there is nothing mention about charasi lakh joon. Guru Nanak preached for everyone. Those who were far from religion, those who were at the beginning of religion stuck in rules and rituals, those who were at greater levels of bhakti and those who had attained jeevan mukht. Thats why there are some shabads that tell people to make an effort on the pathway, while others say its of no use to make an effort because its only Grace of God that will lead you on the path.. The ones talking about making an effort are meant for those newly in religion or far from religion, to make an effort and come on the path, where as Grace is the only way to progres for those on higher levels of bhakti. another shabad meant for muslims: http://www.srigranth.org/servlet/gurbani.g...13&id=46482 That its meant for muslims is clearly mentioned here: Kurâṇ kaṯeb ḏil mâhi kamâhî. Practice within your heart the teachings of the Koran and the Bible;

who said anything about kaam? that is how you interpret his words and not something he said himself.. dont put words into his mouth and judge on false information! A person who loves another is not driven on kaam, but love.. there is a difference between these two things.
  17. Sikhs should fight for the rights of ALL to wear religios headgear and not just turbans.. have'nt we learned anything from Guru Tegh Bahadur? What good is it that sikhs are allowed to wear their turbans if muslim women are stilll being supressed?

Come on stop being extremists... If the bhagats could ask God for a good wife why can't he?? Shoes, fine clothes, A milk cow, and a water buffalo, I beg of You, and a fine Turkestani horse. A good wife to care for my home - Your humble servant Dhanna begs for these things, Lord. ||2||4|| http://www.srigranth.org/servlet/gurbani.g...id=30096#l30096 There is nothing wrong in asking for personal things.. its like saying you can't pray to God that you will pass your exams etc..
  19. Where does sikhism reject avatar theory?
  20. In the words of our Gurus Celibacy, self-discipline and pilgrimages were the essence of Dharma in those past ages; but in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Praise of the Lord's Name is the essence of Dharma. Each and every age has its own essence of Dharma; study the Vedas and the Puraanas, and see this as true. "Idol worship, ritual, wearing the dhoti, and leaving the head bare are duties that were required in previous yugas(not during the present). During the Kalyuga, the proper duty to observe is that which binds diciple to Guru. Each Yuga has its own Veda. For the Kalyuga it is the Atharva Veda. According to the Atharva Veda he who lives in the kalyuga and obeys the word of the Guru shall find rich fullfilmen, whereas he who does not obey it will sink in the ocean of existence." -Sakhi Rehit Ki by Bhai Nand Lal The vedas might have been the way earlier, but they are outdated now and will not bring you mukhtee.. but reading them and learning from them is good
  21. This is a very nice sewa you have done paaji. Your posts on katha translations should be put into a seperate forum so that they do not get lost in the thousands on threads that are already on this site. Please keep on doing your sewa and may Guru ji bless you
