  1. Daily Mail has a bit of a reputation in the Uk if you understand Uk newspaper history. It has been called the Daily Hate. In the 1930's it was ran by Lord Rothermere, who was a supporter of Hitler and Mussoolini and ran headline in 1934 'Hooray for the Blackshirts' - The Blackshirts were a fascist party in the UK with ties to the Nazi party. I know a long time ago but it still has a reputation for its ummm 'views' Thing is it shouldnt make a difference as the readership already hates us for many things including supporting equality for women, that many of us demand equal rights and such. Depressing read otherwise :s Articles like the below show their clear bias! Forgotten heroes of Operation Bluestar: Almost three decades have passed, but the Sikh anger hasn't died http://www.dailymail.co.uk/indiahome/article-2212497/Forgotten-heroes-Operation-Bluestar-Almost-decades-passed-Sikh-anger-died.html
  2. ITs simple Barinder Ji go and ask Jagraj pahji. What other Singhs on here have said is plain and simple. Itw as posted on here without trying every opportunity to get a DIRECT answer directly from source. It would have been fair game had Basics of Sikhi replied to you and youTHEN SHARED the reply with a post...but no keyboard warriors strike again. Im sorry im a total murak and can't think of a better more constructive way to tell you without causing offence and I apologise but it is pretty simple...you have a problem go to the source and try and sort it out as any Gursikh should do with HUMILITY...if the reply is not gurmat and are causing you a problem then let sangat know citing what in the response you were unsure of or what is Beadbi etc. The baba argument is, I'm sorry, nothing to do with this ...its about common decency...give a whole picture of account not just that you were unhappy. You could always make the Akal Takht aware of your concerns/opinions.
  3. The BBC have finally made a feature on the horrific number of dissapearances in Punjab. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-27585500
  4. Balvinder Ji I am sorry if I am making any mistakes but If you asked the question: what are your views about the 3HO cult ? Then You are asking a loaded question and havent asked for any specific questions just a general one that would take a hell of a lot to answer. Sometimes its better to go to the horses mouth than ask such a loaded question and then come on to this forum and drag names down. Sorry if I cause any offence.
  5. Oh and there is a Roman saying...empty vessels make the most noise.
  6. Why so many pre-suppositions on this thread.....we need to stop making things up. Why not ask Basics of Sikhi for a detailed stand of opinions and ask more specific questions if they bother you? Instead of making up what he/they might think or probably thinks? I'm no fan of 3HO, but I wouldnt say that everything they did was wrong either. Some of the Simran Kirtan that comes from those affiliated are beautiful and has influenced other jathas and kirtan styles. A lot of Jathas have their own distinct problems and ultimately we should see only one Panth...How many of us actually see one Panth? Personally I don't like what goes on there with regards to money and yoga but these are personal views. There are some amazing Gursikhs too. If you come from a non punjabi background you are assumed to be 3HO or at least found Sikhi through them. This is not the case. What I'm trying to say I guess is don't go on hear say or what you hear down the langar hall. Go and find out for yourselves or just ask. Basics of Sikhi group are chardikala Singhs and will always go out of their way to help. They gave a beautiful talk about Shaheedi of Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Telford over the weekend and really are inspiring, they have very knowladgeable Singhs doing their kathas.
  7. A lot of the issues are raised in the Equuality Act 2010. However a lot of the law seems very flexable, open to interpretation and muddy when applied to Sikhi unfortunately, seems to only suggest consideration be given however does say that there should be no direct or indirect discrimination based on faith. What kind of work is involved? With regards to kirpan some employers are very accomodating some of us rightly or wrongly dont make an issue of it and wear under shirt http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/15/contents. Are you able to add more specifics to your job role?

    Beard Pulling

Between your thumb and index finger there is a fleshy pressure point....stick your thumb in there and twist the hand (in direction of their thumb). They will let go believe me...unless they are super stonger than you or do not feel pain. better to practice getting it right a lot though on yourself to find the right spot quickly haha. I was taught it in the Army Cadets years ago...apparently the police use it...if they dont let go...carry on pushing until their arm naturally goes behind their back ...then you can control the situation without using any blows whatsoever (avoiding unnecessary violence or blows). Failing this ....beard oil? Super slippery haha. In all honesty though why do you ask do you get many people pulling your beard?
  9. You are indeed blessed. I have so much respect for Hassidic movement. I think you can find more than all the answers you are looking for in that faith. There are so many similarities both on a physical and spiritual levels. As far as Internet is concerned I was merely stating that you can't have possibly read everything by now. We would need a few lifetimes just to view every page on Sikhi. In that way I meant you can easily get snowed under and forget the most important one in it all. How many of us end up trying to impress each other rather than the One that really matters. Who has the biggers Kara, the most beautiful kirpan etc. Internet is important but its too easy to get engrossed and snowed under.
  10. Unless refering to mosquitos can admin advise people to note use derogetory slang for members of other faiths please? I certainly wouldnt like it if a muslim used such words for my beautiful faith.
  11. Would see doctor just incase....if thats all clear then environmental health agency depending on country...They may be breaking noise level regulations. Hope you get it all sorted soon!
  12. I live near a dockyard and sometimes we hear loud bangs in middle of night....the dockyard is about a mile away. It carries over like its almost outside. Sound seems to carry a lot more in night due to less level of 'background noise'. If its regular maybe you should contatc environmental health who will set up bd monitors?
  13. I'm hugely impressed that you have read so much oin Sikhi in such a small time! Im still snowed under. So much out there
  14. We have had a lot of thunder recently? Do you listen to a lot of loud music or work in construction/Manufacture...could have Tinitus.
  15. Respectfully wouldnt it be great if EVERYONE kept kesh? Wouldnt have to be a Sikh. Its natural...I know of no animal that shapes and shaves. Imagine a Lion without his crown. Do what is right for you. You will never please everyone but why should you care? Between you and your Guru. But a point to consider is your family. Maybe you should see if you are truly comfortable with this new path for longer than a month before diving into a whole new identity. If you find yourself back in Judaism it will prove difficult to yourself and those around you. Sikhi isnt about conversion and many sikhs will advise you to follow your own faith unless you are unable to do so. But of course its your journey.
  16. Whats with all the shouting!!!!!????? and the >>> what do they mean? :s Guest is being sincere from what I can see nothing wrong with asking questions. Keep calm and jaap Naam PS I only know one type of Singh/Singhni. A Sikh one panth.
  17. Sounds like a hindu ritual...Not sure if this is whats happening...if so maybe a talk is necissary. Saade-saati of Saturn (Shani) and the ritualistic worship of Deity Hanuman While enduring a Saade-saati of Saturn, Maruti is worshiped to reduce the distress caused by Saturn. The ritual is as follows: Oil is taken in a bowl and 14 black urad grains are put in it. Thereafter one sees the reflection of his face in the oil. The oil is then offered to Māruti. The method of worship remains the same even when a person is sick and cannot visit a temple. The reflection of negative energy also takes place along with the reflection of ones face. When such oil is offered to Maruti, the negative energy therein gets destroyed. Source http://www.forumforhinduawakening.org/living/hanuman-jayanti
  18. You are right Pahji sorry it was filmed in Tunisia and Iran. Please forgive my error. Yes Myn Bala is also a fantastic film agreed! A must watch!
  19. VJKK VJKF A turban is not exclusive to Sikhi pahji. It is a very old tradition. Your motives for wearing dastar seems very sincere. I am also 'white a Sikh of Welsh ancestry. It really boils down to your motivations. I would never give up my dastar, it has been prescribed by Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. I really wouldnt worry about what Sangat thinks - they will be very very supportive trust me . You are more likely to get some comebacks from white people who may not be as educated about the purpose of Dastar and who you represent. You will become accustomed to this however and can even educate people about Sikhi and Sikh faith! I think it is very important that you give dastar the respect it deserves though. It is very sad to see people in dastar drinking or doing other beadbi! I will speak honestly now pahji I kept kesh for two years before wearing dastar too...But looking back I probably didnt chose the best path. Turban keeps the kesh tidy and clean and would have made more sense - because eventually ther inevitable happened. All the best with your journey pahji and please keep us posted of your journey into Sikhi
  20. Bab'aziz (great mystical turkish film well worth watching), Brazil, The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, The Brass Teapot, Life of Pi...
  21. Last time voted Lib Dem...and undfortunately they supported the tories and formed a Government. Labour are the lesser of evils. Tories are party of the Upper classes. The papers back them up playing on 'dole scroungers'. However the extremely wealthy are let off billions in tax evasion. They are dragging their feet on closing loopholes. This money alone would pay for all the people that without work and providing a free education so that Children from poorer backgrounds are given an opportunity (If they have the ability) to become doctors, lawyers, engineers.
  22. Great response.....also add: Families not passing on and Inspiring Children in Sikhi. Pressure on their children to do well in professions whilst not caring about spiritual needs and what really matters. Hypocracy within leadership.
