Interfaith marriages are a bigger problem to me and many Gursikhs. Because their child might go one way or another picking a faith such as Hinduism over Sikhism. This can lead to blending different aspects of both faiths by their children which should not be allowed as we know Anti-Panthic forces want Sikhism to merge into Hinduism and with Hindu-Sikh marriages going on it can get worse. Of course there are Christian-Sikh marriages and Muslim-Sikh marriages. This is my own opinion.

As a GurSikh from America, here I can see more interfaith weddings happening within my own community and all over my own country. I was curious if your sangat in Canada, UK, Austrialia, others are seeing more interfaith marriages occurring in gurdwaras than usually. I really think this is becoming a bigger issue within the panth. I know there are a lot of topics on it, but how do we tackle on the issue of stopping interfaith marriages in gurdwaras. A protest by locking a gurdwara seems a little harsh but does work, but I think gurdwara committees need to step up following the rehit better and we can see a lot less cases happen in the future. I'd like to hear your opinion on this issue. WJKK WJKF

Very much agree, a lot of older Sikhs find him to be a "terrorist" because when they were young they were tuned to Indian media portraying Sant ji and the Shaheeds as terrorists and killing Hindus etc..... Sikh youth today should be inspired by his motive to fight injustice as the Sikhs were being treated as slaves back then and still now. A lot of Sikhs don't know the real truth behind 1984. All it takes is some research and reading "A Gallant Defender" can easily see what really happened. I guarantee this guy you talked with was probably following up Indian propaganda and didn't understand fully what happened in Punjab in the 70's and 80's.

This is from Bhai Amrik Singh's Shaheedi story: "The head Granth of Amritsar states that on the 6th of June, Bhai Amrik Singh told a Singh that Sant Ji wants us to go out and fight and attain shaheedi at 7am but it's now been post-poned to 9am. Mukh Granthi of Amritsar, Bhai Mukhtar Singh Ragi said, Sant Ji put his teer with the puratan shashters and did Ardas and it was no ordinary Ardas. In the Ardas Bhai Sahib said "hey Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji the enemies are attacking your Takhat, I hope that today I can become shaheed to defend your Takhat, a normal person asks never to come back into this world, but I pray that until the panth isn't free from slavery, may I be reborn and keep on dying for fighting against oppression." After this Ardas it was that night that Bhai Sahib, Sant Ji and General Shabeg Singh Ji attained shaheedi." From this is it very possible that Waheguru listened to Bhai Sahib's ardas and gave him another chance to fight against the oppression on the Sikhs after his Shaheedi?

Exactly what kind of person let this nutjob join the Sikh Council of Australia? He is supposed to be representing us the right away and speak the truth about dastaar and how it is a big part of our religion and identity. He makes us look bad out there. Just because he might have extreme amount of money doesn't mean hes a educated Sikh on his own religion. Smh.....

He goes on and states how the turban is a cultural tradition and has to do nothing with our religion. This was apparently the same Singh back in 2007 who said no to kirpans in school. Its people like him who give spread false agenda and are still given a position in the Sikh Council.

I totally agree with you on how much youth lack knowledge of Sikhi. You must not forget so many Sikh parents have very little knowledge too due to them misusing their time at gurdwara rather than not learning anything. It's time to reach out to Sikh parents to start taking their faith seriously. Now to inspire the youth you have to motivate them to make their Sikhi faith stronger so giving them countless history lessons will really be a eye-opener for some. A lot of Sikh teenagers are more into the martial art of Sikhi. Using social media to spread Sikhi awareness to the youth can be a big part in the future whether in the music industry or movie industry. Sikh teenagers are being seduced by all the new western culture stuff so it is a must to teach youngsters what Sikhi is all about. It is sad today I see a lot of keshdhari grandfathers with mona grandson or granddaughter it shows you that if we are losing our Sikhi identity then we are headed to a rough path. In 30 years I see a rough future but if Sikh Youth stand up and want to change things around for example more camps and classes or fixing how gurdwaras run then I can see hope.

Thanks for your input and everyone else's posts too. I will recite Japji Sahib every time before I do Naam Simran to help myself. There are stories sants saying it takes them 15 - 20 years for some kind of experience to take place but on the other hand some receive them quickly. I guess it matters how much devotion and love you put into doing simran.

Sangat ji, as a teenager who is trying to do Naam Simran atleast 2 hours a day I am currently having a struggle in pondering that I don't benefit from it. I feel like I don't benefit from doing Naam Simran. I still will be doing Naam SImran of course because of how much our Bani emphasizes on chanting His Name. Does anyone have motivational stories that people have experienced during Naam SImran? Does it take many years to finally experience something from Naam Simran? Are people allowed to tell their own experiences or must keep it to themselves?

I made this point earlier too it is a shame he went from a drug addict to Amritdhari and with high hopes I had for him to be a good role Model for the Sikh youth in Punjab he is getting into promoting Ravidasias now and who knows what next. These people are more about money than Guru ji's teachings. We can deal with these singers with violence but boycotting their concerts coming to our places and getting promoted by our gurdwaras. Gurdwara committees should promote awareness against their gandh music

Thank you ji, this is very helpful to keep myself away from meat and the kids at gurdwara. It is sad that pizza shops owned by Sikhs are using animal rennet. They must tell sangat atleast to give a head-ups for Sikhs who do not eat meat.

I guess it is a problem for me because I am in America. This is very difficult to tell if it is actually made from animal rennet? Do you think big pizza chains can answer on if ALL of their cheese is from animal rennet?

This is shocking!!! Thank god I have stayed away from pizza for a long time. This needs to be spread as for our Gurdwara classes have pizza for lunch, hopefully not meat involved....

You hit the nail on this one ji. As a Sikh teengaer, I can say that Gurdwara's all over the world have to go against these bad influential punjabi singers or movies by talking about them in gurdwara because there needs to be awareness of this vulgar music or westernized punjabi movies promoting caste or whatever being spread within our community. Like ome have mentioned before, So many damn Punjabi singers are just doing a couple religious songs than go back to who they really are. Its sad to see punjabi singers even like K.S. Makhan who is Amritdhari to be promoting Ravidassias in his songs that include Khalsa Panth or something similar. All of it is for money and fame these people just want more attention and what can we do about it?

WJKK WJKF, Before you go on about fighting the 5 vices I suggest you to search "Basics of Sikhi" on Youtube. There you should watch many of his videos that talk about Amrit ceremony, Sikh Rehat Maryada, and much more. From there you can start little by little and advance slowly. He has videos on learning Gurmukhi too so be sure to check that out too. If you do take Amrit start memorizing the lines and do more naam simran. Then you can advance a bit more. Of course others will have different opinions on what steps you should take. WJKK WJKF

Myself, as the only Sikh in the whole school district, I keep my appearance as it is no matter what. If you trim your beard you are putting yourself further way from Guru ji even if your Sikhi at heart you won't be seen as one because you shave for your own personal benefit whether it be to attract girls or to fit in society. Public's opinion should not matter as Guru Gobind Singh Ji said. Be proud of your heritage and trust me hair is very essential to our Sikhi identity. If you are SIkhi at heart you would respect Bhai Taru Singh's martydom of getting his scalp cut instead of his hair. Even though he wasn't threatened to have his beard trimmed, but you see the symbol of hair being sacred to him. There's many more examples.....

Q. There are so many contradictions. You've translated the Japji and other religious writings, and there's the other you. A. It's gone alongside, it's never made me religious. I rejected religion from the age of 25. Jeez I wonder what punishment he received from Dharamraj for rejecting religion.....
