  1. I see what you mean the main writers under the label are NIddar Singh the lost warrior 3ho singhni selling yoga related books Amandeep singh Madra Parmjit SIngh john Keay (the tartan turban) whose previous books glorified the East India Company
  2. even the jews weren't following their original doxa , he was just trying to bring them back to the path because like hindus they had gone awry with treatises on magic , superstition, mistreatment of women etc... surprisingly or not I see a lot of parallels with vedas /idol worship/lack of worship of the nirgun saroop of akal Purakh appeaaring in sanathan dharma and judaism similar prejudical attitude to women in spiritual matters despite the large number of dharmic women in their history , the reappearence of magical tantra mantra after being driven out by Moses
  3. yeah but which christainity ??? that's the rub , if you read the original contemporary writings he never claims he is God or worshippable he says only Akal Purakh is worthy , to contemplate on naam and the Gun of Akal Purakh . He says many similar things to Guru ji but agreed his message got thrown out by corrupted followers...
  4. saw picture of the happy couple go figure ... http://www.hindustantimes.com/punjab/royal-wedding-amarinder-s-grandson-marries-karan-singh-s-granddaughter/story-nIlHOcWrYSDQCIptL6yKFN.html
  5. yep camel's not getting through needle's eye anytime soon
  6. who cares about some old buddard clinging to a kursi in some hall , his power stems from Akal Purakh's hand and I will only see the anginat blessings that are showered on us everyday in every way The kids, babies and youth full of love for sikhi dragging their parents back to Guru ji's charan through the dor of moh. The sharing of the loads and pressures of the needy by our brothers and sisters across the globe causing recognition of our true nature and praise of the Guru The multipronged approach to solving our problems ourselves instead of waiting for a hero : environmentally, legally, financially, politically the use of new tech to circumvent traditional blockages to news, parchaar and drawing together into a world sangat inspiring the home nation from outside the reach of detractors The mistrust of media, foreign/ non-sikh authors of our history and people returning to source to do own research then sharing that with family and friends The awakening of the elders to their joint knowledge and rekindling of old sikh ways and traditions in the youth in the villages The continuous prayers for the chardikala of the panth going on around the globe The huge number of people signing and letting non-sikhs know about the human rights/water problem in Punjab drumming up world-wide support for the challenge through international human rights court . The immense blessings of gursikhs who go beyond and make a difference THESE are the signs to be positive about , it has nothing to do with stupid godless people shifting seats.... besides what can happen to the panth and land blessed by Guru ji's vaak?
  7. No I didn't but I didn't want people to go on flights of fancy about how much greater our condition will be it's the same families just our version of Games of Thrones ...he is brother in law to Badal and has just married his kid into Gulab SIngh DOGRA's family . Ghadars are everywhere
  8. he starts saying these things and my heart just shrinks in my chest with world-weariness , like they say with friends like that who needs enemies? Forget about Santa Banta Jokes it's this quality of parchaar which turns off positivity in the fledgling panth...he just makes our kaum seem the equivalent of those hindu parchaariks ...thus the people thinking what's so special about sikhi
  9. captain did the following when he heard the SYL verdict from supreme court he resigned from loksabha along with his comrades from congress instead of fighting and speaking against the verdict ...don't expect them to do anything to help us .
  10. surely most of these authors' works are copyrightfree now can we not make an e-press to produce on demand books of these people's work and perhaps negioate with family for permission of rest .
  11. my list of usual suspects runs long but for this I could imagine somebody who's name begins with T
  12. I think it is our responsibility to highlight and translate the magnum opuses of all these true gurmukh intellectuals and their predecessors rather than relying on dubious modern authors who reframe our history to suit the elites who are afraid of a sikh renaissance ( otherwise why was their first step to shut down our independent printing houses and publishers before the hamla on Amritsar) and building on their work make history courses, ethics courses, politics courses to run throughout our gurdwarey/community centres or if the powers that be interfere there then hire primary school halls after hours (helps out schools too)
  13. the problem is people are not familiar of the contemporary accounts of the Guru Sahiban's words on the questions we ask now e.g. why were there blank sections and pages left in Adi Granth by Guru Arjan Dev ji , why Didn't Guru Har Gobind write gurbani or our ancestors asked these questions and the answers were given by Guru Sahiban at that time . If people knew those accounts and the detailed history then NO-ONE would question the jyoti jyot concept or even authorship of the Granths
  14. sounds like the typical when the cat's away the bibi will be a gobshite to the maa pio ... I had the reverse when the hubby's away the in-laws will be 'oh sooo lovely' BTW they probably heard a few karariya te sach shabads in return . Sikh bibis need not be cowed by nasty peeps I'm sorry but how is she still a musli , I'm surprised her maa pio didn't get the fatwa issued ... that is pretty standard across the board reaction in islamic circles moderate or not . she must have said some rank stuff to rile such an old budda ... normally that generation tend put mitti on quarrels for the sake of peace.
  15. one of my SIL has that despicable habit and she openly boasted about it to my Mum who was suitably horrified (no pun intended). She did the same for her daughter's outfit ....My mum was like just buy something you can afford rather than doing that dodgy behaviour sweating etc into the outfit and then returning it, yuck.
  16. When I was a kid everyone wore one outfit through the day , when I was a teen the bride's family started to attend the wedding party now everyone acts like it's their own wedding and need two outfits to change into . I'm old school ...thank God
  17. the saas and the bloke often push the girls saying things like sadda nak kuttvouna , change kaparde paa ke ja .....the unmarried ones use their Dad's nose as an excuse (maybe I missed the class covering the connection) my Masi did twice once for the first marriage and then again for her second ... Nowadays it's a contest between the career girls much like the guys you mentioned
  18. probably true I prefer classical reshmi embroidery like kashmiri shawls , phulkari embroidery, brocade designs like silk saris, chikan or lucknow cotton suits are fave ... I will wear jewel colours but in plain material e.g. emerald, firozi , peacock blue , navy ... silver thread rather than gold . Point is I learnt from life that you make your own style from what looks good on you not what's on trend necessarily and it doesn't need to be expensive just well made . I've literally seen a cousin in simple colourful cotton suit look more glam than her sister decked in the bling OTT style suits . There is a point where Indians say to themselves one ring looks good so I should wear the full jewllery store then I'll look so cool ....pet peeve is a suit which has great material , good print but then been hot glued with pearl and gemstones all over , not even paying attention to whether it still looks good .
  19. my nana ji knew me well enough and despite not knowing even what colour he would select it worked out plain light pink silk suit with pink on pink fine embroidery and fine gold bead on the edge of the chunni. Literally it was simple enough to wear to gurdwara any program . He knew I wasn't a showy person
  20. but when they can't pay their plastic off I'm sure they'll go running to Daddy and Mummy and rip them off too ...seen it too many times . So infantile becoming a slave to the plastic just for a few hours worth of clotheswear. Somebody suggested hirewear ...these kind of sirrphiriya would turn up their nose to it ... honestly they deserve all they get ...
  21. fools and their money are soon parted ... it's because they have to have 'designer' wear lenghas and suits which are not that much better in quality than those they call pauper suits . My mum used to make clothes for a factory which used to supply brands as well as no brand ones she still got paid the same the only differences were the labels sewn it at the end . It is much the same in Indian clothing industry. I sew myself and I've bought designer stuff and had to fix their lousy stitching . These days I buy the embroidered materials and make them myself ... quality assured and I don't get done over by 'tailors' here
  22. I spent 300 on my shoes and matching handbag for my wedding day and I thought that was extravagance . My whole suits collection for the new life were a grand total of 1 lakh rupees (14 suits all embroidered plus chunnian) which was less than the price of one of my Masi's chunnis for her wedding ...I think my Nana ji was impressed at my level headed- ness . I still have some of the chunnian (lost most of them in housefire) yep 26 years after the buying .... I just make new plain suits to go with them ... I do not agree with the whole ik din paalea dujha din sittleha, I don't need to get married again so I aint out to outshine the main players and youngsters, if it's something I like and have made well I wear it, else I'll just grab one of the old ones ... I don't care if it's been seen before , life's too short and I'm just there to be part of the sangat.
  23. honestly she's whinging about a tofaa what about the bride's Mum and Dad ...maybe she needs to stop whinging and start helping get her family and friends to influence others to bring down expectations and costs for female's folks everywhere. The other thing whether or not you attend if you are related the present is still sent unless you have zero manners
  24. maybe the title should when non-rehitvaan sikhs run gurdwarey ...because so many people wear the uniform , take the respect but abuse the privilege ... there was a time that people had to earn each piece of their bana through bani and sewa now anybody even RSS agents just play dress up ...we need to insist on the proven ability, standard of the person .
  25. this is wrong as she is ashamed of being different , her fanbase is mainly muslim hijabi girls http://www.indianlink.com.au/urban-turbans/ and here's an illustration of how regal and cool Kaurs can look against the sparrows following dunyiva trends to diminish them. http://www.sikharchives.com/?p=2907
