  3. Something about will power for you. The last line is the most important. At its essence, willpower is the ability to resist short-term temptations in order to meet long-term goals. And there are good reasons to do so. University of Pennsylvania psychologists Angela Duckworth, PhD, and Martin Seligman, PhD, explored self-control in eighth-graders over the course of the school year. The researchers first gauged the students’ self-discipline (their term for self-control) by having teachers, parents and the students themselves complete questionnaires. They also gave students a task in which they had the option of receiving $1 immediately or waiting a week to receive $2. They found students who ranked high on self-discipline had better grades, better school attendance, and higher standardized-test scores, and were more likely to be admitted to a competitive high school program. Self-discipline, the researchers found, was more important than IQ in predicting academic success. Other studies have uncovered similar patterns. June Tangney, PhD, of George Mason University, and colleagues compared willpower by asking undergraduate students to complete questionnaires designed to measure their self-control. The scientists also created a scale to score the student’s relative willpower strength. They found the students’ self-control scores correlated with higher grade-point averages, higher self-esteem, less binge eating and alcohol abuse, and better relationship skills. The benefits of willpower seem to extend well beyond the college years. Terrie Moffitt, PhD, of Duke University, and colleagues studied self-control in a group of 1,000 individuals who were tracked from birth to age 32 as part of a long-term health study in Dunedin, New Zealand. Moffitt and her colleagues found that individuals with high self-control in childhood (as reported by teachers, parents and the children themselves) grew into adults with greater physical and mental health, fewer substance-abuse problems and criminal convictions, and better savings behavior and financial security. Those patterns held even after the researchers controlled for the children’s socioeconomic status, home lives and general intelligence. Such findings underscore the importance of willpower in nearly all areas of life. Defining Willpower We have many common names for willpower: determination, drive, resolve, self-discipline, self-control. But psychologists characterize willpower, or self-control, in more specific ways. According to most psychological scientists, willpower can be defined as: · The ability to delay gratification, resisting short-term temptations in order to meet long-term goals. · The capacity to override an unwanted thought, feeling or impulse. · The ability to employ a “cool” cognitive system of behavior rather than a “hot” emotional system. · Conscious, effortful regulation of the self by the self. · A limited resource capable of being depleted. This means that the constant battering or should I do it or not - depletes will power. So try to avoid debating with yourself. Just a little piece of advice for you, which you may benefit from. (Your other post did get me thinking very hard and I just realised that to reach to a stage of where I find myself today took me some years - others took months and hours. It does take time to digest information being thrown at you - because we are all at different levels. We can only make changes in small steps. However if we don't make the effort to move we will remain where we are. The mind is like a wild untrained horse which will fly into all directions. As Guru Jio says Nimakh maye chaar koont fir aaye - which means In an instant it can go to the four corners of the world and come back) However man jite jag jeet. If you can win over your mind (and make it work for you the way you want - then you will win over the whole world) The battle is going on within the self and the mind - which does not want to listen.

  5. There are a number of shabads which have their words written on them.. lyrics on the screen. However if you want the meanings of any shabad and any shabad in punjabi too, there is an app called Gurbani nirvaan. It has the options to choose to read the meanings in English too. (In fact you can read them in English only if you want) The search in this app is so easy that you just need to type in the first letters of the words in punjabi. e.g. if you want to get to Thakur gaiye aatam rang - you type in TGAR. Well it will bring you the shabad, but you got to know a little punjabi in order to know which search is correct. However you are welcome to ask me for help anytime. Alternatively you can choose to listen to an album and I will get you all the shabads in there and their meanings too. That way you can focus on certain shabads at one particular time. To listen is supreme. These lines are from Japji sahib. They tell us the benefits of listening to the word of God.   7. Loneliness can sometimes be a blessing because it is when you are alone that you can hear Gods voice. So turn it to your advantage by engaging in simran. When there is no interruption, you are able to devote your time and concentrate better. Its all in our thinking. You have a relationship with everyone, even your dad. Its a product of the idle mind. Its your imagination. Simran will help you beat negative thoughts. That is because no one in this world can become your best friend. Only God can, if you let him. Satgur is the friend who will stand by you even after death. This is what your empty soul is telling you to search for. We are all hungry - we constantly need air, water food and attention and most important positive thoughts in order to keep going. That positive thought is the name of God. You get it through simran, sadh sangat, listening shabads and it is the one which gives you peace and satisfaction( after you have eaten it) All this is from Gurbani. I cannot find the lines, but all this spiritual wisdom has been explained in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Finally after gaining your spiritual wisdom, the line below explains how you can trample all the demons which are kam, karodh, lobh moh and ahankaar. ਦਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਦੈਤਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ दलि मलि दैतहु गुरमुखि गिआनु ॥ Ḏal mal ḏāṯahu gurmukẖ gi▫ān. The Gurmukh tramples the demons underfoot with his spiritual wisdom. Turn to Naam to distract yourself and your problem will be solved. Keep turning to naam. Get addicted to reading, hearing and listening to the name of God through apps, videos, going to the guradwara and reading good books. Focus on the positive. The most important thing is that you have recognised your problem. Give yourself credit for that. Go to the guradwara and dust the shoes of the sangat there. Recite Waheguru in your mind as much as possible when you are there. Yes having a bath with Amrit is powerful, but you have to drink in the real Amrit too which is the name of God. Finally keep in mind small steps make great changes. It is walking in the right direction which is the most important. You will surely reach your deestination if you keep walking and also taking care to face the right direction all the time. Half the cure is in knowing and admitting you have a problem.
  8. Great idea. So tell us how your first hour of mool mantar jaap was. Shut all devices. Set an alarm which will go on after an hour. Keep your eyes closed. Keep away from all distractions.
  9. Many people I know, if they are widows or divorcees opt to not have lavaa the second time. Widows or widowers do not have their partners left in the world. In order to lead a more peaceful life and have a jivan sathi - they remarry. Sikhi honours marriage as it gives you the company of a spouse who can help to share Naam with you thus you can obtain salvation. Marriage also helps you to lead a more upright life as you have a partner to satisfy your needs and you are not turning to others, being led into sin in the process. Baba Naudh singh Jis book gives a good idea of what marriage should be. Spouses should look at each other as equal partners in order to make their marriage work. Respect for each other and being their for each other, listening and understanding your partner are the key to success in marriage. A bit of sacrifice for each other is required too. Unfortunately these days, there is no much unhappiness due to the wrong advice being given by none other than the girls mothers themselves to the girls. Hindi serials ideas being put into peoples minds are not the key to happiness. (sort your mum in law out with this and rule over your husband and make him your slave ideas are not the right appoach) Moreover simran is essential for the success of a marriage. If you are not able to devote and listen to God then you are apt to have frustrations and bad thoughts which you vent onto others. Continuous simran by both partners help develop the essential qualities of perseverance, understanding, sacrifice and most of all patience. That is the secret to having a blissful marriage.
  10. The first step is always recognising you have a problem or rather you want o become a better person. The second is looking for ways to do it. When you do path regularly it will change your thinking pattern automatically. Even if you dont feel that anything that happened when you prayed that is not true. Some little part of you gets affected. If you stick to your path habits and devote the same amount of time everyday at possibly the same time - this is when you will see the true results emerging. Your focus from your personal problems is going to be diverted and your attention to Waheguru is going to increase. Try not to talk about your negative aspects to your friends. Think before you talk and be aware that every word makes a difference somewhere or another.
  11. This must be really bad if you have seen therapist and got no where. If you feel funny going there wearing a dastar - then yes you should go there. Perhaps it is what will motivate you from stopping. Don't focus on your dastar when you go there. 99% of the chance is that no one there will eve be focussing on your dastar apart from yourself. The main thing which is going to stop you from your bad habit is the will to stop. Going to groups is of no use if you dont have the motivation to stop. The best way to stop a bad habit is to develop another good one which will divert you from the bad one. Think of alternative things you could watch on the computer. If I were to become an emperor and raise a huge army, and sit on a throne, ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹਾਸਲੁ ਕਰੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਭ ਵਾਉ ॥ Hukam hāsal karī baiṯẖā nānkā sabẖ vā▫o. issuing commands and collecting taxes-O Nanak, all of this could pass away like a puff of wind. ਮਤੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੧॥ Maṯ ḏekẖ bẖūlā vīsrai ṯerā cẖiṯ na āvai nā▫o. ||4||1|| Seeing these, I might go astray and forget You, and Your Name would not enter into my mind. ||4||1|| You could focus on this shabad which tells us not to watch that which makes us to forget God. Depending on your closeness to God - try starting to spend more time watching religious videos and reading some good books which will divert your attention from your habit. Think of this - why do you not think twice of watching it with a dastar on when you are now focussing on whether you should go and stop your habit and your dastar is being your focus point. Why do this in the first place with your dastar on? Think of the time which your habit is wasting - you could be achieving other things in the meantime. Moreover you may be a good example for others who have this problem - and wear dastar too. Think positively all the time. Don't think twice when going to do something good. Think more than twice before doing something as bad a watching porn.
  12. This is my own personal story when I was 10 years of age. I used to visit our neighbours opposite the road to play int he evenings. These were cousins living together so altogether - there were about 7 of us and a beautifully wide place to play hide and seek. On this particular occasion - I decided to hide behind the house and the fence had just been trimmed. We wore rubber slippers and there was a big huge sharp thorn which I stepped on in my frenzy. I cried out and screamed and was in tears and the game was called to an end. Everyone tried pulling the thorn out to no avail. Was I doomed or what? We had to go to my home. I was limping and the whole gang of kids came with me. My mum was busy frying something on the gas so she could not stop and devote a minute to me. I think she did not even know what had happened. My dad had his head buried in the bonnet of his car and could not stop - maybe he did not even know what had happened because I always turned to my mum first. He may have thought the matter would be sorted out. There was not much communication between them both. So no one asked me what was wrong with me. So I sat down with my group of friends. The thorn was completely lodged in and would not budge even a little. I was in total distress. We were all giving up when one of my friends ( they were Hindus) said to me - take God's name - maybe it may help. In my frenzied mind I could only think of Mool mantar. My mum had taught me that and told me to repeat it. I did it when I was scared of anything. I had had enough of this shame. I felt so shy being the centre of all this attention from everyone especially the boys. I did not feel good sitting there crying in front of all my friends. Shutting my eyes - My focus was all on the words of the Mool mantar and my hands on the thorn. In fact I had only reached karta purakh... I did not even finish the Mool mantar when the thorn miraculously came out. It was as if another hand just pulled it out. I was recently narrating my experience to someone of little faith. All they could say is perhaps my bodily nerves all relaxed when I said the mool mantar and the thorn came out. (So why are other words not able to relax our bodies as much) If only the first words of the mool mantar can relax the body enough to pull out a thorn then what would the whole mool mantar do? Mool mantar is the name of God. Let us say it over and over again with full concentration. Forget the counting and devote time - that is one hour or 2 hours to the continuous recitation of mool mantar. We should not count that we said it this lakhs of times and these lakhs of times. That is ego, in my opinion. Let us aim to keep reciting it forever and ever, over and over again. Another experience was later on the next year. The teacher punished us all to go and kneel on the tarmac in the blazing hot sun in the afternoon and keep our hands straight up. It was hard. We had been making noise. Our hands kept slipping down. This is when I thought of mool mantar. When I said the mool mantar - the teacher looked out of the window and that is the time when I suddenly got the urge to raise my hands and keep them straight up. A message was sent with the names of those who had been keeping their hands straight up to return to the classroom. I was one of them, the others remained there. The mool mantar had saved me once again.
  13. Sex is an experience. It has been created for a purpose. It is supposed to bring a feeling of closeness to a couple and it is meant to be used to procreate. O.K. so why would you want to have sex outside marriage if you were not in love with a person and wanted to get close to them? Misusing of sex - leads to bad consequences. These days we do things thinking that no one will know but our sins lie still deep in our conscience and come back to haunt us later. Whether a boy or a girl - the guilt and heaviness will still be there because IT IS A SIN. Sin leads to punishment and suffering. So whether a boy or a girl - keep yourself pure to experience this special feeling with the person you will get married to after having taken Guru Ji's blessing. Lets not become sex addicts - skipping from person to person seeking the most unique experiences. Fidelity to one partner will bring loads of happiness to a marriage and good for your life and especially your spiritual life. Lust is punishable in HELL. In his book, Bhai Rama Singh Ji narrates how he had to spend a night in hell to pay for his sins. Your sins get written on your forehead - printed on your forehead and you are led into a burning chamber for punishment. What a shame!!! That night I dreamt that the jamdoots (angles of death) were taking my soul away to some destination (Jamdoots are the doots (envoys or messengers) of Jamraj or Dharamraj, the mythical judge who holds his court at the entry to the next world, the hereafter. Dharamraj passes jugdement on the souls leaving this worldly existence. So jamdoots represent death and are the dark angels of death i.e. Dharamraj. They do the bidding of Dharamraj and also punish souls. A farishta on the other hand, in common language is a white angel of god. The word is also used for a person who does good). On the way, I saw other souls being taken away too. They were being tortured by the jamdoots. We were in a long line with many souls in front of me and many following behind. However, my soul was not being tortured because I had recited God's Name. Where there is no mother, father, children, friends or brothers, O my mind, there, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall be with you as your help and support. Where the great and terrible Messenger of Death shall try to crush you, there, only the Naam shall go along with you. (SGGS p. 264) As we walked along, we passed by a very dark area. In this darkness, we saw some very frightful scenes. They were so terrifying that a person could easily faint from fright. "Where the path is difficult and the street is narrow, there the Lord shall liberate you." (SGGS p. 996) As we went further we came to an extremely hot place. It felt as if there was fire burning under our feet. Then there was a hill, which we were ordered to climb. Those, whose souls were soiled, found it very difficult to climb this hill. The jamdoots beat them and forced them to climb the hill. Those with pure souls climbed the hill very easily. According to the Hindu faith, it takes one year for the soul to reach the court of the judge Dharamraj. My soul was travelling at a very fast speed. Along the way, I saw all these scenes but they did not affect my soul directly. On the other side of the hill, was the court of Dharamraj where the good and bad deeds done in one's life are judged, and reward or punishment meted out accordingly. Like the modern computer which enables immediate access to information, Dharamraj too is able to look up accounts of people's deeds instantly. There was a lady standing in the line next to mine. Dharamraj said to her, "You have served saintly people. There are many pots of milk and a variety of food for you. Although, you have done good deeds, you did not meditate on the Lord's Name. You will be reborn a human being. This time be sure to meditate on the Lord's Name and obtain salvation." Another person's turn came before mine. Dharamraj said, "Although you were given a chance as a human being, you didn't do any good deeds. You wasted your life doing evil deeds." He told the jamdoots, "Send this soul to hell and throw it back into the cycle of chawrasi lakh joon (8.4 million life forms)." Next it was my turn (It needs to be remembered that Bhai Sahib Ji is reciting own experience at a certain time in his life based on his belief at the time). Dharamraj said to me, "You have recitcd Bani and meditated on the Lord's Name, but your mind is soiled from the sins in this life. You have to be sentenced for this. The jamdoots took me to a place where human souls were punished for their bad deeds. The place resembled an immigration area at the airport where people with different passports line up in different lanes. Here, there was a separate line for each bad deed. There was a signboard displayed on every lane. For a lustful person, there was a door to a fire chamber. Next was a doorway for those who had listened to other people's gossip. They were punished by having red hot liquid iron poured into their ears. Liars had their tongues cut off. Thieves had their hands cut off. I could see these terrifying scenes from where I was standing. There was still a long line in front of me. Then the jamdoots brought me in front of the fire doorway and commanded me to go inside. I was terrified. They said that if I did not go in, they would beat my head with a heavy club. They pushed me in. It was a most dreadful place like a big pond. Many people were suffering there and screaming in agony. Nothing but cries of anguish could be heard. Nobody could think of food or water. The water in the pond was boiling like a volcano and small creatures were stinging people. The whole night passed in this dream. When it was time for me to get up to do my Paatth of Sukhmani Sahib, my soul returned from hell into my body as I chanted, "Aad Guray nameh, jugad Guray nameh...." the first line of Sukhmani Sahib Bani, "I bow to the Greatest (Waheguru) Who is the source of all; I bow to the Guru Who is through the ages. When I opened my eyes, I was sweating and I had marks of insect stings all over my body. At this point I thanked Guru Arjan Dev Ji a million times for the Bani of Sukhmani Sahib and started crying profusely. I kept repeating, "Dhan (Praise be to) Guru Arjan Dev Ji! Dhan Guru Arjan Dev Ji!" and thanked God for blessing me and saving me from hell. It is a well‐known truth that recommendation of an influential person works in our worldly affairs. If a person is jailed and a high‐ ranking officer calls in asking for the person's release, the person is freed. The same is very true in our spiritual life. Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj (Great King) helped me out of hell. I thought to myself, "O' lustful man! For a moment of sexual pleasure, see how much you had to suffer." "O sexual desire, you lead the mortals to hell; you make them wander in reincarnation through countless species. You cheat the consciousness, and pervade the three worlds. You destroy meditation, penance and virtue. But you give only shallow pleasure, while you make the mortals weak and unsteady; you pervade the high and the low. Your fear is dispelled in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, through the Protection and Support of the Lord" (SGGSp. 1358) Virginity has been valued in all the older traditions even in Africa, where after the first night of the married couple some blood was expected to be seen. Otherwise they sometimes slaughtered a chicken and sprinkled the blood on the piece of skin to show the girl was a virgin or else - dowry would not be paid. In these cases it was the men who paid dowry to the girls parents for bringing up the girl for them.

No one knew, they were Sri Dashmesh Pita, with an exception of two Sikhs brothers in whose house Guru ji stayed. One of them was devotional Sikh and other was not that much in Sikhi. Days past, slowly people began to know that Sri Dashmesh Pita is living here... So sangat started coming... One day the big brother was going for the darshan of Guru Sahib. While walking, he was thinking that if Guru Ji is so mighty, then why couldn't he defend himself and protect his sons in the battle of Chamkaur Sahib... His sons are no more alive... So how can he be a Guru ... Meanwhile he noticed a small Singh, around 4 feet in height, coming ... So he thought of waiting for him and they will go together for Guru Ji's darshab. When he looked back, the Singh grew bigger... He changed the colour of his bana from blue to white... When that Singh came close, the bigger brother asked who he was and what he was doing. The Singh replied: "I'm a Shaheed Singh". Then he told: "We are 96 crore (960 million) in number and present at Chaumkaur Sahib. We were praying and crying with our hands folded to Dashmesh Pita to let us go in battle field... Only one Shaheed Singh can finish all the Turks from this world within seconds...   16. Well, I do apologise from the bottom of my heart for being judgemental. I sit here judging you because I have only your words to go by. So what you say is what I judge you from. I do feel sorry that your sangat is not being supportive. (Personally - I just wanted to say this at some point that sometimes we should go by other people especially sangat - because they are not perfect either. I have a bro in law who goes Guradwara everyday and he comes and treats us all - well like minor beings, which we all hate. So yes no one is perfect except God himself) I am sorry for letting my frustration on to you. We have some extension work going on and it has taken ages such that we have had to sacrifice going to the Guradwara on Sundays. When we go there, my son just does not sit down and listen. So I do not get all the bliss which I would otherwise get. Therefore I feel angry that you have the chance to go and never went. Sorry my fault. It would be terrible for me if you decided to back out because of what I said. There are times you can go to the Guradwara and feel totally out of sorts. This one episode - where my son went and sat with a group of children who had colouring pencils about 30 of them amongst themselves and he grabbed about 5 and would not let go of them. Their mum just turned to me and remarked - don't you know that these are for my children and your son. My son would not let go of them - and I had to take him outside and snatch the pencils to return them. They even took my sons own pencils and did not bother to return them. ( It is not in order to do chugli of sangat - but yes at one point I did feel like mentioning to you that the Guradwara might not be the best place to get into one with God) So - theres the dilemma. Good people exist in the Guradwara, but they are bad to us. Look at the examples of the Bhagats. Bhagat Naamdev goes to the Temple. He is beaten and thrown out by the pundits. However because his bhagti was accepted by God, God himself turned the door of the temple to face Bhagat Naamdev. ਹਸਤ ਖੇਲਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੇਹੁਰੇ ਆਇਆ ॥ In a laughing and sportive mood, I came to Thy temple, O Lord. ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਤ ਨਾਮਾ ਪਕਰਿ ਉਠਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ Whilst Nama, was worshipping, he was caught hold of and driven away. ਹੀਨੜੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਦਿਮ ਰਾਇਆ ॥ A low caste is mine, O my Lord, the king of Yadwas. ਛੀਪੇ ਕੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Why was I born a calico-printer? Pause. ਲੈ ਕਮਲੀ ਚਲਿਓ ਪਲਟਾਇ ॥ Taking up his blanket, Nama went back, ਦੇਹੁਰੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਬੈਠਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ and going behind the temple sat down there. ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ॥ As Nam Dev uttered the Lord's praise, ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕਉ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਫਿਰੈ ॥੩॥੬॥ so did the temple turn towards the saintly person. Therefore we need to try to make ourselves right with God. It is only possible through meditation and path and simran. There is no other way. If you persist with your meditation without worrying whether it is blissful or not perhaps it would be beneficial. I was going to suggest that you try to attend a Guradwara which is in an area where no one knows you for instance Birmingham or any other place where your crowd do not go. ( When we were younger at least I had my sister to stand by me. We had nasty friends too at the Guradwara. In the end we ended up not talking to them. (This was in the country Kenya) My first experience of having attended a Guradwara in England at the age of ten was rejection by the group of girls who was playing outside. Today the Guradwara we go to - we know no one there. We just listen to kirtan - concentrate and come back home. Sorry if I upset you - did not intend to. (Perhaps I should sort my own frustrations out before trying to sort other peoples lives out) Any way I hope from the bottom of my heart that you do quit your bad habits, manage to make new good friends and find bliss in meditation.
  17. This may be a bit harsh - but thats what I think. I choose to speak my mind out, which is for your own benefit. So this tells us about how you may have started this bad habit. BOREDOM!!! You could have tried 1. tying your turban. 2. Do your path or some meditation or even start to read your sehaj path even if it just be in English. 3. Read the post I had put on here earlier which you never saw. It had a book which you could have read. If you keep responding to this crowd, one day you will not have the strength to say no. You have just started to avoid your drinking. As you progress into keeping away from it - your no will not be that strong. You are advised to start to keep away from that crowd. Change your phone number if the need arises. You will go downhill again if you don't. Yes you will not enjoy it - because you go to pubs to drink and loose your self and talk nonsense. So why do you need to go there now? To socialise? You can do much better. Find another crowd before these 30 days are over. This blog is not going to be around forever. Unless you start another blog like 30+ days after staying sober. You need another reason to come home. You still have about 14 days to come up with some. Perhaps then you need to start another blog after this one - telling us about how your sehaj path is going on and what you are understanding about it so others can benefit from it. (That may bring you home) You need good religious books. You did well in saying no to pressures. You need to start going to the Guradwara and reading Gurbani. Frankly I am a bit dissappointed that after a basics of Sikhi event, you did not return to the Guradwara on Sunday. It seems like you got nothing out of it!!!! If you want to give up drinking for good you need the Lords name which will sustain you. We, this blog, blogs and other things are not around forever. Turn to sangat. Persist in going to the Guradwara and trying to listen even if you dont understand anything. Keep away from bad company, pubs and the like. ( I just chose to speak my mind whether you like it or not. It is better than having to come back to a blog and check Oh wheres that guy?) Pause. ਬੂਡਤ ਕਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਬੇੜੀ ਮਿਲਤ ॥ As is the boarding a boat for the drowning man. ਬੂਝਤ ਦੀਪਕ ਮਿਲਤ ਤਿਲਤ ॥ As the dying lamp, burns by obtaining oil. ਜਲਤ ਅਗਨੀ ਮਿਲਤ ਨੀਰ ॥ As the burning fire is quenched with pouring of water. ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਮੁਖਹਿ ਖੀਰ ॥੧॥ As the child is satiated by oozing milk in the mouth. ਜੈਸੇ ਰਣ ਮਹਿ ਸਖਾ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ॥ As in the battle, brother becomes a succourer. ਜੈਸੇ ਭੂਖੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਮਾਤ ॥ As the hunger of the hungry man is satisfied with food. ਜੈਸੇ ਕਿਰਖਹਿ ਬਰਸ ਮੇਘ ॥ As bursting of cloud saves the crop. ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਲਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੇਂਘ ॥੨॥ As in the tiger's refuge, One is well protected. ਗਰੁੜ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਰਪ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ॥ As with eagle's (Garar's) spell in the mouth, one fears not the snake. ਸੂਆ ਪਿੰਜਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਖਾਇ ਬਿਲਾਸੁ ॥ As the cat can eat not the parrot in the cage. ਜੈਸੋ ਆਂਡੋ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ As is the reflection in the mind for the eggs. ਜੈਸੋ ਦਾਨੋ ਚਕੀ ਦਰਾਹਿ ॥੩॥ As the grains are saved by sticking to the central peg of the quern. (so does the Lord's Name emancipates those, who place it in their mind.) ਬਹੁਤੁ ਓਪਮਾ ਥੋਰ ਕਹੀ ॥ Great is Thy glory, O God, I can narrate put a little. ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਤੁਹੀ ॥ Thou art lllimitable, Inaccessible and Inapprehensible, O God. ਊਚ ਮੂਚੌ ਬਹੁ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ Thou art very high, great and Infinite. ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰੇ ਸਾਰ ॥੪॥੩॥ Meditating on the Lord, one is ferried across, O Nanak.
  18. Kesh - I believe is then for those who have the deepest faith. Why else would Bhai Taru Ji say that he would rather have his khoprhi cut off rather than his hair. His hair because of his faith - turned hard as steel and could not be cut. Kesh has been given to us - to use as a choice. If we did choose to keep it then good for us. If we don't then one day - we will be given the faith by God that uncut hair is for our benefit. People who regularly do path and go the Guradwara eventually end up keeping their kesh and beard and wear a dastar. Only God can give us this blessing and understanding. It is not being taken as a strict hukam these days. I personally feel that this is due to the hardships especially like the 1984 massacre which took place. Think about it - wouldn't sikh history be different if that massacre had not taken place in the first place. Perhaps more sikhs would be keeping their hair. many Sikhs at that time cut their hair just to save their lives. The trend of cut hair just continued or spread from there I suppose.

Bibi Nanki his sister - saw the spirit of God in Guru Nanak Dev Ji - therefore she said to her father not to slap him after sacha saudha. Baba Nanak ji da Sacha Sauda.. As I started going to the night‐clubs, my mind started getting soiled. I started engaging in relationships with girls. I tried very hard to stop myself but was unable to. The bliss I got from reciting Sukhmani Sahib slowly decreased. When my boss would go to the parties, I would take a walk in the garden and recite 'Haaray Rama'. However, I did not get as much spiritual contentment as I did before. I thought to myself, "Why am I not getting any blissful contentment these days? Surely, I have committed some sin." My mind became so soiled that I did not even feel like reciting a single Sukhmani Sahib Paatth. Yet, I used to recite many Paatths in a day. I thought, "I am the same person, the Sukhmani Sahib is the same; then why is my mind wandering in all directions?" One day, while reciting the prayer, my mind paused on a verse: "One, whose eyes do not gaze upon the beauty of others' wives, who serves the Holy and loves the Saintly' Congregation." (SGGS p. 274) I realised that I had made a big mistake by indulging in immoral relationships with women. That was why I was not getting any satisfaction from reciting Bani anymore. I prayed repeatedly to the Lord but my wandering mind would not stay on Gurbani. Those who go to night‐clubs, discos and pubs are bound to get their minds soiled. Those places are like rooms full of soot. Whoever goes into such a place even once, is bound to come out with his or her face and body blackened (Here, Bhai Sahib is pointing to the lasting spiritual and psychological damage done by immoral living and pornography. Those who indulge in "night life" in the name of modernity are unwittingly doing incalculable damage to their spiritual well‐being and family life).

The disciples play the music, and the gurus dance. ਮੁਰੀਦ ਰਾਗ ਅਲਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਰਸ਼ਿਦ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵਾਇਨਿ = (ਸਾਜ) ਵਜਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਰਾਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਚੇਲੇ ਸਾਜ ਵਜਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੱਚਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪੈਰ ਹਲਾਇਨਿ ਫੇਰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਸਿਰ ॥ पैर हलाइनि फेरन्हि सिर ॥ Pair halā▫in ferniĥ sir. They move their feet and roll their heads. ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੱਗ (ਪੈਰ) ਹਿਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੀਸ ਘੁਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। xxx (ਨਾਚ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਫੇਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਡਿ ਉਡਿ ਰਾਵਾ ਝਾਟੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ उडि उडि रावा झाटै पाइ ॥ Ud ud rāvā jẖātai pā▫e. The dust flies and falls upon their hair. ਘੱਟਾ ਉਡ, ਉਡ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਲਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰਾਵਾ = ਘੱਟਾ। ਝਾਟੈ = ਝਾਟੇ ਵਿਚ। (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਉੱਡ ਉੱਡ ਕੇ ਘੱਟਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵੇਖੈ ਲੋਕੁ ਹਸੈ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ वेखै लोकु हसै घरि जाइ ॥ vekẖai lok hasai gẖar jā▫e. Beholding them, the people laugh, and then go home. ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਹਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। xxx (ਰਾਸ ਵੇਖਣ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ) ਲੋਕ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੱਚਦਿਆਂ) ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅੱਖਰੀਂ-ਲੋਕ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ)। ਰੋਟੀਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਹਿ ਤਾਲ ॥ रोटीआ कारणि पूरहि ताल ॥ Rotī▫ā kāraṇ pūrėh ṯāl. They beat the drums for the sake of bread. ਟੁਕੜੇ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ ਉਹ ਸੁਰ ਤਾਲ ਮੇਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪੂਰਹਿ ਤਾਲ = ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨੱਚਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਪਰ ਉਹ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਏ) ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਨੱਚਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾੜਹਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ आपु पछाड़हि धरती नालि ॥ Āp pacẖẖāṛėh ḏẖarṯī nāl. They throw themselves upon the ground. ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜਮੀਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਟਕਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਛਾੜਹਿ = ਪਛਾੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਇਂ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗਾਵਨਿ ਗੋਪੀਆ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਕਾਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ॥ गावनि गोपीआ गावनि कान्ह ॥ Gāvan gopī▫ā gāvan kānĥ. They sing of the milk-maids, they sing of the Krishnas. ਗਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਗੁਆਲਣਾਂ ਤੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ। ਗਾਵਨਿ ਗੋਪੀਆ = ਗੋਪੀਆਂ (ਦੇ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੋਪੀਆਂ (ਦੇ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਾਨ੍ਹ (ਦੇ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸੀਤਾ ਰਾਜੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ गावनि सीता राजे राम ॥ Gāvan sīṯā rāje rām. They sing of Sitas, and Ramas and kings. ਸੀਤਾਵਾਂ, ਰਾਜੇ ਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। xxx ਸੀਤਾ, ਰਾਮ ਜੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ निरभउ निरंकारु सचु नामु ॥ Nirbẖa▫o nirankār sacẖ nām. The Lord is fearless and formless; His Name is True. ਡਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਸਰੂਪ-ਰਹਿਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ, xxx ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਿਡਰ ਹੈ, ਅਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ, ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨੁ ॥ जा का कीआ सगल जहानु ॥ Jā kā kī▫ā sagal jahān. The entire universe is His Creation. ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੈ ਸਮੂਹ ਜਗਤ। xxx ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਮਿ ਚੜਾਉ ॥ सेवक सेवहि करमि चड़ाउ ॥ Sevak sevėh karam cẖaṛā▫o. Those servants, whose destiny is awakened, serve the Lord. ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੋਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਜਾਗ ਉਠਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਰਮਿ = (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਨਾਲ। ਚੜਾਉ = ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ) ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਰੱਬ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ) ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਭਿੰਨੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ॥ भिंनी रैणि जिन्हा मनि चाउ ॥ Bẖinnī raiṇ jinĥā man cẖā▫o. The night of their lives is cool with dew; their minds are filled with love for the Lord. ਤ੍ਰੇਉਲੀ ਹੋਈ (ਠੰਢੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ) ਹੈ ਰਾਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ। ਰੈਣਿ = ਰਾਤ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਰੂਪ ਰਾਤ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ-ਰੂਪ ਰਾਤ ਸੁਆਦਲੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦੀ ਹੈ- ਸਿਖੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ सिखी सिखिआ गुर वीचारि ॥ Sikẖī sikẖi▫ā gur vīcẖār. Contemplating the Guru, I have been taught these teachings; ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਸਿਖਮਤ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਸਿਖੀ = ਸਿੱਖ ਲਈ। ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਘਾਏ ਪਾਰਿ ॥ नदरी करमि लघाए पारि ॥ Naḏrī karam lagẖā▫e pār. granting His Grace, He carries His servants across. ਕਿ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੋਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। xxx ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੋਲੂ ਚਰਖਾ ਚਕੀ ਚਕੁ ॥ कोलू चरखा चकी चकु ॥ Kolū cẖarkẖā cẖakī cẖak. The oil-press, the spinning wheel, the grinding stones, the potter's wheel, ਕੋਲੂ, ਚਰਖਾ, ਚੱਕੀ, ਘੁਮਾਰ ਦਾ ਪੱਹੀਆ, xxx (ਨੱਚਣ ਅਤੇ ਫੇਰੀਆਂ ਲੈਣ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਉਧਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਵੇਖੋ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਕੋਹਲੂ, ਚਰਖਾ, ਚੱਕੀ, ਚੱਕ, ਥਲ ਵਾਰੋਲੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਨੰਤੁ ॥ थल वारोले बहुतु अनंतु ॥ Thal vārole bahuṯ ananṯ. the numerous, countless whirlwinds in the desert, ਮਾਰੂ ਥਲ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵਾਵਰੋਲੇ, ਥਲ ਵਾਰੋਲੇ = ਥਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਰੋਲੇ। ਥਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵਰੋਲੇ, ਲਾਟੂ ਮਾਧਾਣੀਆ ਅਨਗਾਹ ॥ लाटू माधाणीआ अनगाह ॥ Lātū māḏẖāṇī▫ā angāh. the spinning tops, the churning sticks, the threshers, ਲਾਟੂ, ਮਧਾਣੀਆਂ, ਫਲ੍ਹੇ, ਅਨਗਾਹ = ਅੰਨ ਗਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਫਲ੍ਹੇ। ਲਾਟੂ, ਮਧਾਣੀਆਂ, ਫਲ੍ਹੇ, ਪੰਖੀ ਭਉਦੀਆ ਲੈਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਹ ॥ पंखी भउदीआ लैनि न साह ॥ Pankẖī bẖa▫uḏī▫ā lain na sāh. the breathless tumblings of the birds, ਇਕ-ਸਾਹਾ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੋਟ ਪੋਟਣੀਆਂ ਭਉਦੀਆ = ਭੰਭੀਰੀਆਂ। ਪੰਛੀ, ਭੰਭੀਰੀਆਂ ਜੋ ਇਕ-ਸਾਹੇ ਉਡਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੂਐ ਚਾੜਿ ਭਵਾਈਅਹਿ ਜੰਤ ॥ सूऐ चाड़ि भवाईअहि जंत ॥ Sū▫ai cẖāṛ bẖavā▫ī▫ah janṯ. and the men moving round and round on spindles - ਅਤੇ ਸੀਖ ਉਤੇ ਟੰਗ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਘੁਮਾਉਣਾ, xxx ਸੂਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਕਈ ਜੰਤ ਭਵਾਈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਾਨਕ ਭਉਦਿਆ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਅੰਤ ॥ नानक भउदिआ गणत न अंत ॥ Nānak bẖa▫uḏi▫ā gaṇaṯ na anṯ. O Nanak, the tumblers are countless and endless. ਨਾਨਕ ਘੁੰਮਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਓੜਕ ਹਨ। xxx ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਭੌਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ। ਬੰਧਨ ਬੰਧਿ ਭਵਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥ बंधन बंधि भवाए सोइ ॥ Banḏẖan banḏẖ bẖavā▫e so▫e. The Lord binds us in bondage - so do we spin around. ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜੰਜਾਲਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਕੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਭੁਆਟਣੀਆਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਧਨ ਬੰਧਿ = ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ। (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਕੜ ਕੇ ਭਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਨਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ पइऐ किरति नचै सभु कोइ ॥ Pa▫i▫ai kiraṯ nacẖai sabẖ ko▫e. According to their actions, so do all people dance. ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ = ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਮ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ। ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਨੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਨਚਿ ਨਚਿ ਹਸਹਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਸੇ ਰੋਇ ॥ नचि नचि हसहि चलहि से रोइ ॥ Nacẖ nacẖ hasėh cẖalėh se ro▫e. Those who dance and dance and laugh, shall weep on their ultimate departure. ਜੋ ਨੱਚਦੇ, ਨੱਚਦੇ ਹਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤੁਰਨ (ਮੌਤ) ਵੇਲੇ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਰੋਇ = ਰੋ ਕੇ। ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਨੱਚ ਨੱਚ ਕੇ ਹੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਰੋ ਕੇ (ਏਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਸਿਧ ਨ ਹੋਹਿ ॥ उडि न जाही सिध न होहि ॥ Ud na jāhī siḏẖ na hohi. They do not fly to the heavens, nor do they become Siddhas. ਇਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਆਸਮਾਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ = (ਕਿਸੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਉੱਤੇ) ਉੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਅੱਪੜਦੇ। (ਉਂਞ) ਭੀ ਨੱਚਣ ਟੱਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਅੱਪੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ, ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਸਿੱਧ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਚਣੁ ਕੁਦਣੁ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥ नचणु कुदणु मन का चाउ ॥ Nacẖaṇ kuḏaṇ man kā cẖā▫o. They dance and jump around on the urgings of their minds. ਨੱਚਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੁੱਦਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਮੰਗਾਂ ਹਨ। xxx ਨੱਚਣਾ ਕੁੱਦਣਾ (ਕੇਵਲ) ਮਨ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੌਕ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਿ ਭਉ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਉ ॥੨॥ नानक जिन्ह मनि भउ तिन्हा मनि भाउ ॥२॥ Nānak jinĥ man bẖa▫o ṯinĥā man bẖā▫o. ||2|| O Nanak, those whose minds are filled with the Fear of God, have the love of God in their minds as well. ||2|| ਨਾਨਕ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਫਰ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ। xxx॥੨॥ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
