  1. I don't understand something. A strict amrit-dhari like Nihang Singhs from Buddha Dal and Tarna Dal dress like ancient kshatriya and also their rehit is kshatriya. Is your family really hindustani looking, or they do look more like FIRANGHI with haircut etc? Tell your family you want to become kshatriya and therefore taking amrit. You should only take amrit from those who really understand kshatriya maryada, there are too many jathebandis, sects and SGPC who take amrit dharis away from kshatriya dharma!
  2. if someone doesn't have kesh, than wouldn't them using Singh in their name be disrespectful to Singhs and Khalsa and Guru anyway? Look at Sindhi sikhs and Nanakpanthis, do they use Singh? Would there be any point in them using Singh if they don't keep kesh. I think it would be disrespectful at the end of the day. As to not being recognised as a sikh. Didn;t Guru ji give kesh and dumalla to be able to be recognised, so what's the point of arguing?
  3. you should check what Guru jis fed their hunting dogs. Then you can find out the same!
  4. this could be good. Instead at the moment it is many females who are spreading the venom against turbans, not doing their sewa in keeping infant sons'' kesh even though they somehow choose to put Singh on birth certificates, putting kanjarfied photos on insta and facebook (seriously everywhere now, the behzti is real). Is it no surprise many are falling to grooming? We seriously need to wake up!
  5. sikh community needs to follow rehit, ie shastar rehit. sikh community needs to be in grihast and not this garbage dating mentality. sikh community needs to respect turban and stop this negative racist hate within sikh community against turbanned sikhs. sikh community needs to learn gurmukhi and read gurbani including Guru Gobind Singh bani and charitropakhyan to understand this grooming.
  6. yes but that would have been a neutral animal such as goat. Also if someone really is following veggie rehit then surely they cannot support goatskin tabla?
  7. in this day of vegan alternatives, why don't GPS and pharmacists offer up vegan friendly alternatives?
  8. lol maybe I do mean what you mean?! but obviously being a student I didn't mean what you meant obviously!
  9. Singhs in the Khalsa would be more strict then just sitting through 48 hour akhand paat. They would recite bani even practising shastar. Sitting down for paat for 48 hours is not really compatible with Khalsa rehit, a Singhs need to practise shastar vidiya and be tyaar bar tyaar. Doing something like horse riding or shikaar is also important. Just listening to paat is more of a sehajdhari or sant matt lifestyle.
  10. too many abrahmic connotations with the term God. Plus it doesn't sit well with the monistic and nirguna-sarguna approach where the different defitions are used, such as Chandi, MahaKaal, Akaal, Waheguru, Har, Ram etc.
  11. No, bhang and sukhnidaan would replace the alcoholism, so it would be better! But none of this silly weed stuff. Also more of the panth needs the warrior and survival skills; 1984 and 1947 karma happened to us because we lost the skills due to SGPC and jatehbandis' rehits sikhs are always students? If a sikh stops learning then there's a problem!
  12. I would say seen as a sign from Akaal or Waheguru. Not God - we aren't christians here, this is sikhsangat =)
  13. My dad used to keep my junior cricket bat behind the counter. Also those Stanley knives we used can also be useful for self defence.
  14. http://www.sikhawareness.com/topic/18648-death-of-the-nihangs/?page=6 Amritsar, October 7The ongoing kar seva is unlikely to restore the two-and-a-half-century old ivory mosaic work, ‘gach’, a sort of stone or gypsum priceless murals, naqqashi and paintings, depicting mythological scenes which was destroyed in January 1986 when radical Sikhs pulled down the magnificent structure of Akal Takht following the ‘sarbat khalsa’. The priceless naqqashi which fell prey to militant diktat 16 years ago was a specimen of excellence attained by Sikh craftsmen. While the craftsmen had dedicated their lives to complete the exquisite art work in the interiors of Akal Takht, the same is none being done in a hurried manner. Mr Surinder Singh and Mr Satpal Danish — both sons of the late G.S. Sohan Singh, famous fresco artist who had worked for 32 years in Golden Temple — alleged that the art work at Akal Takht was not being done as per the traditional design and technique. They claimed that the present paint and art work being done through kar seva would not last long. Mr Danish claimed that he was the first person who had objected to the demolition of Akal Takht in 1986, but nobody heeded his advice then. “However, I kept frame-by-frame frescoes and gach work which included paintings of Hindu gods with me,” he said, adding that more than 20 per cent of the craft work of Akal Takht and 60 per cent work of the Golden Temple was done by his grandfather, Bhai Gian Singh, who had devoted his life to this work. Fresco paintings were introduced by Bhai Kehar Singh under the patronage of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Today, few artists pursue this ‘Sikh school of art’. However, Baba Amrik Singh who has been supervising the kar seva being done by Dera Baba Jagtar Singh at the behest of the SGPC said the life of the new technique of naqqashi was more than the traditional one. He claimed that while the old structure of Akal Takht had been demolished and the frescoes and rich art work had disappeared after 1986, it was not practicable to use the ‘traditional technique’ to adorn the interior walls with old frescoes which had disappeared forever. He said the design of Akal Takht had also been changed when the building was reconstructed after 1986. The historical well, which was got sunk by Guru Hargobind had been included in the spacious building during the earlier kar seva carried out by Damdami Taksal. Replying to a question about the enamel paint, Baba Amrik Singh said only water colours were being used which did not fade for five years. Baba Amrik Singh claimed that the fresco work was being done by Mr Harbhajan Singh who had more than 40 years of experience in this field. He said he had done 50 per cent work of retouching the frescoes of the Golden Temple. The state convener of INTACH, Dr Sukhdev Singh, asked the babas who are carrying out ‘kar seva’ to use old materials and styles, in consonance with what is in the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple. Experts and knowledgeable persons must be consulted on the issue. He said old blocks of the designs preserved in the archives of the SGPC or in private possession could be of great use. The use of synthetic and bright colours did not reflect the ideology of Sikhism or belong to the Sikh school of art, he said.
  15. Even Guru jis mentioned caste in gurbani. There's nothing wrong in just "mentioning" caste, It is a problem when people become arrogant, hunkaari etc. Actually some people have hunkaar in pride of caste, but there's also there who have hunkaar in not following caste as well unfortunately.
  16. yes but why does it have to be gelatine capsules, I am sure there are alternatives?!
  17. ‘The chief work of the Seva Panthis is this: to serve the living spirit and not to worship stones, to provide food for all beings in free, the the communal kitchen as service, and to make havens for cows, cattle etc. To do all such religious deeds.’ (Baba Karm Das, transcript of recording, 06-03-2001)
  18. why don't you take choola instead?
  19. I don't even think the nihang wannabes practise jhatka and shikaar, I think I only see a few that actually do shikaar. But what about the wannabes who want to dress in bana but follow their jathebandi practises? Are they not worse than the so-called wannabe nihangs?
  20. can the forum become more panthic and encourage less pro-jathebandi views? Please show more respect for rehit. Also Akal Takht maryada does not have an anti-meat stance, can this forum not comply with Akal Takht maryada? Since the forum is called "SIKHSANGAT", why not respect the views of sangat? Sangat represents Guru, not just individuals. it is really important for us to control hunkaar and not fall into haumai trishna as sikhs.
  21. what the heck is a pardra? And why are you doing this nonsense dating stuff, has your family not taught you any sanskar. Low caste or high caste or whatever, this girlfriend boyfriend stuff is waste mentality. Decent dharmik families only do grihast jeevan. If you want to "get with" someone, then you do it by marriage or Anand Karaj, not this no class trashy dating sheep mentality! We are out of the pends, now need to behave a bit better!
  22. Please do not reduce maryada of jhatka and shikaar to just being about Meat. Read rehit and dasam bani before making such statements!
  23. unfortunately colonial jathebandis, colonial and post-colonial babas and deras (and sad to say, even sikhsangat.com moderators, just look at the 3rd topic in the Agree to not Disagree section) have been propagating these anti-rehit vaishnu practises. And on the other hand, Singh Sabha and SGPC mainstream are also responsible for not preserving jhatka and shikaar maryada. As we become more aware of rehit and Guru Gobind Singh's bani the more likely we are able to practise this rehit. It is such a shame that sikhs choose to follow cult personalities before following hukams of Guru ji. How can people turn their backs on Gurus and rehit like this yet show amrit dhari roop? ਰਹਿਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮੁਝ ਕਉ ਸਿਖ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਹਿ
