  1. Are the pictures of Guru a true image of what they really looked? I feel they can lead to idol worship, ritualism and bad practice. For example we see images of Guru Sahibs on calendars, (if they’re a true impression of them we don’t know) With calendars they are only of use for 1year, I no people who are scared to throw them away due to the picture on the calendar as they feel it will bring bad luck. Luck and superstition we no are against Sikh Ideology. Also some images are questionable for example Guru Gobind Singh, some different and vary from one picture to another. So the vadilty of the images are in question. Another point I have sceen one picture of all ten Gurus on the painting and two Gurus look exactly the same. Did the Gurus have the time to sit for portraits?? They wouldn’t want us to idolize the pictures, as can lead to anti Sikh Practice. --------------------
  2. If someone has a "picture" of any Guru in their house, can that also lead to idol worship? Yes it can and ive sceen people do it. didnt we discuss this last week ..??
  3. well said. i hope noone buys it will lead to idol worship and vaam. whoever makes this type of thing should be stopped.
  4. When visiting Gurdwara, Gurbani is recited but not explained. Alot of effort is put in delivering history of Sikhs via Dhadis, speakers, dharmik geet, and at conventions. While all this is vey good, parting of Gurbani in translation and explanatination in English and Punjabi suffers in fact from what ive scene it’s none existent.
  5. The man has been to jail on many occasions for the cause. If that’s zero then what are you doing sitting behind your pc.
  6. Theres only two options. 1. Fight Back 2. Report it the police. Goverement stats that wouldnt be dared released will show that 2/3 of racist attacks are commited by pakistani youths.
  7. Images in a Religious institute can only lead to idol worship, bad practice or many other things, which I have pointed in this thread. To summarize; and idol is an image an image is an idol, Gurbani is clear no place for idol as its blind faith, Jarnail Singh himself as been quoted as saying didn’t want any photos in Gurdwara, other issues needs to be addressed like translating Gurbani to the sangat rather putting full on effort in to making sure we have pictures up of previous leaders. Looking at it from another angle, the Muslim prophet Mohammed has no image you will never find one let alone ina Mosque. Yet his faith has billions of followers, one of the leading critics of Islam (guy from usa) said one the most influential people in the world was Mohammed. I ask again is there a need for images/pictures in Gurdwara. Signing of this topic Fateh.
  8. You think anyone here, anyone at all, understand mool mantra? How can we fit something in mool matnra when we don't even know what mool mantra. I'm ofcourse talking about meanings of mool mantraInstead of saying, ok we need parchaar to tell people that photos are not be worshipped, you just want to outright get rid of them? speak for yourself i no the meaning of it and others do on here.
  9. At Soho Rd Gurdwara there are many pictures of some men that look like sants or the founder members of that Gurdwara, I have scene elderly ladies bowing heads before them, or with hands closed. This is wrong.
  10. Why do you think children will ask their parents and “who that man in the picture” It would be better if they as asked the parents “what is in the SGGS that we bow too” do you think any kids ask their parents that?? …If they don’t then querying the profile of picture is a waste of time.
  11. You are uneducated and don't have a understanding of Sikhi Sikh_Youth_UK , you think you truly represent todays youth by making such remarks to your brother?? Before u judge and condemn the actions of others take a look inside your own soul and if u had to stand in front of DHAN DHAN GURU GOBIND SINGH JEE HIMSELF, would ur life and actions represent a true singh of the khalsa? No I wouldn’t represent. But at least I can say I followed his philosophy regarding idols, which is what pictures are.
  12. Throwing them away would be like throwing gurbani written on a sheet of paper away, right? My point exactly pictures which depict Gurus, shouldn’t be available.
  13. I feel all so called religious pictures can lead to idol worship, ritualism and bad practice. Also some images of for example Guru Gobind Singh, are different and vary from one picture to another. So the vadilty of the images are in question. Another point I have sceen one picture of all ten Gurus on the painting and two Gurus look exactly the same. Did the Gurus have the time to sit for portraits?? They were on religious missons. They wouldn’t want us to idolize the pictures, as can lead to anti Sikh Practice.
  14. A very good point as he was well versed in Gurbani he wouldn’t want any pictures of himself in Gurdwara as we know what it can lead too. I have even sceen pictures in Gurdwara in front of SGGS and above, what on earth is this about.
  15. Yes we all look for inspiration and the said man is inspirational. If I want inspiration from him I don’t need a picture, I would watch his speeches or read about him. Looking at pictures is the easy way out, as well as being a idol.
  16. I think this is uncalled for. Pictures lead to idol worship. When in a Gurdwara all focus should be on SGGS and taking in Gurbani. Some members of the sangat would be distracted by a picture. A picture is just another idol same as stones, and statues, as Gurbani is against this form there’s no place for pictures of anyone in Gurdwara.
  17. That is true, i get weird looks when i go to the gurdwara in bana, i dunt rele care but if it happens in a gurdwara. Or our own ppl label us extremists If people look at you weird maybe're cos they are curious. You should put any misconeception right this also an opportunty for you to do pucharr or at least educate them.
  18. I mean get in to gyms we are a martial race after all.
