  1. In the UK i think we can get the support of all panthic jathbandian on this. I dont know about canada. I not sure about large scale but locally: A letter to the library is important, then a letter to a higher authority (who ever is incharge of the library). Maybe a few letters from organisations. A few phonecalls explaining the issue politely. Education is important. They dont know what the issue is. Maybe 1 or 2 people take charge of the issue at the particular library. If all this dont work then petition maybe? Eventually 5 Sikhs go and meet the library officials. With a official meeting sometimes it helps as places more emphasis on issue. Then if aint getting no where involve people from out of area...maybe globally. Just a few suggestions...may not all work.
  2. You never hurt me bro/sis. We cannot let the respect lapse because of a lack of parchaar. I dont know how many people have internet in india and I havent been to a library in india. Maharaj should not be on a shelf. What i have seen is Parchaar is lacking again in India. Maybe we should concentrate on that. How is placing Maharaj in a library gonna help people understand the meanings? Parchaar will help sort this out. Let me remind you of SOME of the basic problems: in a library people will not have their heads covered, they will not take their shoes off, they will not wash their hands, there is no throne for Maharaj, no bastar......
  3. Firstly Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is our Guru. Lets not forget Guru Arjan Dev Ji slept on the floor whilst Guru Granth Sahib Ji were placed on a bed. That is the respect we must show. Unreachable??? I am not sure how unreachable our Guru is. Most people have internet and you can go on there if you really want to learn. Shelves are for books. Our Guru is not a book. Every Gurdwara is open for all to come and pay respects to Maharaj. No one is discriminated against. Parkash of Maharaj is done everyday...The teachings are not concealed in a silk cloth. I think we are all to used to seeing free bibles and qurans being handed out. We are not going to start standing on streets and hand out copies of Maharaj. If we really care and think that people are not getting to hear the message of Guru Ji then we should proactively learn and teach others. There are many forms of Parchaar. We as Sikhs must take this responsibilty. For a Sikh respecting Maharaj is the most important thing. We cannot let this lapse because of our own shortcomings. Please do not refer to Maharaj as "IT". It is not the fault of the library so please explain to them. We should all take it upon ourselves to make sure Maharaj is not kept in librarys.
  4. It gets better and better. The Sikh Study Forum hand out awards. This is a very good thing...until you look deeper. I put the name of Lord Karass Bilimoria CBE BL of Chelsea, winner of their achievement award into google and found out that he is the owner of Cobra Beer!!!!! I thought i recognised him. Karan Faridoon Bilimoria, Baron Bilimoria CBE DL (born 26 November 1961) is an entrepreneur and a life peer. He is best known as the founder and chairman of Cobra Beer.
  5. I just complained. It is plain wrong to serve alcohol under the name of sikhi. I cant believe what i am seeing.
  6. look how it all began: In November of the year 1984, marauding anti-sikh mobs angry at the assassination of Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India by her two Sikh bodyguards, killed over three thousand Sikh men, women and children, burned and looted their homes, businesses, and places of worship. As a result innumerable Sikh familiies became innocent victims and suffered heavy losses of life and property. Many women and children were orphaned. The tragic and pathetic condition of the destitutes and the innocent victims of this gruesome genocide shook the Sikh worldwide over. In an immediate effort to support the rehabilition work of the affected Sikh familiies of 1984, Lt General J S Aurora (Retd), Hero of Bangladesh liberation, asked the Sikhs of United Kingdon to form an organisation. Mr Ranjit Singh, OBE alongwith other prominent Sikhs of United Kingdom took the lead and established The Sikh Forum, UK in 1985 And now (in 2008) they think it is fine to drink alcohol under the name of 'sikh study forum'. Simply disgusting.

  9. Can the title be edited to 'genocide'? Sorry.
  10. Is there no vigils this year anywhere in the world???
  11. This is just 1 case of many. It was our own sisters, mothers and brothers. Any vigils or programmes being held to remember and ask for justice??? 1984: Massacre of Sikhs Some Case Histories From Report of the Citizens’ Commission, consisting of Justice S. M. Sikri, Badrud-Din Tyabji (Indian Civil Service), Rajeshwar Dayal (Indian Foreign Service), Govind Narain (Indian Civil Service) and TCA Srinivasavardan (Indian Administrative Service). The report was released just a few months after the massacre. [Reproduced from The Sikh Review, November 2000] Case-6 A woman from Trilokpuri described her harrowing experience. She and her husband, a Lobana Sikh, originally from Sind, had migrated to Rajasthan in 1947. About fifteen years ago they had moved to Delhi in search of better prospects. During the slum clearance drive of 1974-75, they had been resettled in Trilokpuri. She and her husband and three of their children survive, but the eldest son aged 18 was killed on 1 November. She described the mob led by the Congress-I block pradhan as consisting of some people from the same block and others from neighbouring blocks and nearby villages. While the block pradhan identified Sikh houses and urged the mobs to loot, burn and kill, the women were herded together into one room. Some of them ran away but were pursued to the nearby nallah where they were raped. Their shrieks and cries for help fell on deaf ears. From among the women held in the room, the hoodlums asked each other to select whomsoever they chose. All the women were stripped and many dishonoured. She herself was raped by ten men. Their lust satisfied, they told the women to get out, naked as they were. For fear of their lives they did so, hiding their shame as best as possible. Each begged or borrowed a garment from relenting neighbours and sought shelter wherever they could.

  16. I have been told that locals have gone there time and time again and sorted out the mess but it ends up in the same state. Maybe this is not true? If only we all looked inside the Gurdwara Sachkhands i am sure we would find similar states in a few of them. We should all do something about it. At the same time it is important these things are highlighted, otherwise some people wont realise it is a problem. Nowadays everyone wants to sit at home on the internet and criticise others. But not actually go out and do any seva. Rupiner are you local to chigwell? Do you know this headmaster? its just no one has mentioned the headmaster apart from you. Can someone shed some light on how this school is run. Is it a commitee or 1 man show? Are they making profits? Internet Warrior.

Who is the headmaster that you are reffering to rupiner? i cant see who has highlighted him? interesting how there is only 1 solution. you seem to know more about this rupiner? please fill us in. have you been there to clean up? Overall the school needs to take the responsibility if no one from outside is willing to come down and do the seva. Did the people of essex decide to keep Guru Ji there? or was it the headmaster? just my two pence worth, Just another Internet Warrior.

  22. Being constructive maybe add this to the description or some of it, whatever you feel helps: JUNE 1984 June has different memories for different people. But for many Sikhs it is the month when the Indian State attacked one of the Sikh’s holiest places, Sri Harmandar Sahib also known as the Golden Temple in 1984. An elite force of 16000 Indian troops mounted the attack, with heavy artillery, tanks and armed helicopters killing thousands of innocent unarmed pilgrims. Over 150000 Indian troops and paramilitary forces spawned the villages of Punjab, detaining thousands without charges, torturing even executing many. In 12 years many thousands were disappeared by the State. The Indian State asserted that it had gone in to arrest known ‘terrorists’ who had sought refuge and had suddenly plunged the region into chaos with ‘terrorism’. This explanation has been accepted by the world without critical questioning. THE FACTS In 1929, the Indian Congress party had promised the Sikhs autonomous status over their region and a veto in the Constitution to block any legislation hostile to minorities in return for Sikhs to join their struggle with an all India struggle for home rule. After British transfer of power to Congress Party in 1947 the later reneged on the agreement. A peaceful campaign for autonomy started and gained momentum in 1980s. The Indian government reacted by illegal detentions, extrajudicial executions, torture and fabricated charges. Most charges failed in courts. Some youth fought back against the State acting outside the constitution. Others sought refuge in the Golden Temple. In June 1983, the Indian army built a replica of the Golden Temple to prepare for an attack . It had nothing to do with sudden terrorism.. The Indian Government produced a list of 25 people it wanted to arrest from inside the Golden Temple. None of them had any charges. About 12 were already dead. About another 8 were out in the regions. Having found out about the impending attack, some 200 Sikh ex soldiers decided to defend the place. The institution was licensed to carry arms. Pilgrims were allowed to come into the Golden Temple but all public transport from the city was prohibited. As a result some 10000 unarmed pilgrims were caught inside the Golden Temple on a holy day. During the attack, many women children and old people were shot dead by the Indian armed forces. The injured were shot dead when doctors tried to save their lives. During the attack, the Indian forces burnt down the man museum-library, the main temporal seat of Sikhs, Sri Akal Takht and fired at many ornamental buildings. AGAINST ADVICE Most Generals of the Indian Armed Forces opposed the attack . They preferred laying siege, cut off supplies and force surrender of the alleged ‘wanted’. AFTER THE ATTACK After the attack many Sikh youth were detained. Some of them are still in jails. without charges. Many detained were executed extrajudicially.. Many more were tortured. Many women were raped and many families were harassed. THE QUESTIONS Why did the Indian Government build a replica Golden Temple 9 months before the attack when there was very little violence in the State? Why was the advice of leading Generals not heeded? Why was the attack mounted on a holy day? Why were pilgrims allowed to come in but not permitted to leave the city? Why did the Government not go to the courts and properly charge the ‘wanted’? What was the constitutional legality of the attack in the absence of any ‘warrants’ ? Why were tanks and heavy artillery and attack helicopter used on a holy place? Why were the injured killed? What are the identities of the thousands killed during the attack? Why were women and children killed? Why were thousands detained after the attack? Who are the thousands disappeared by the security agencies after? What are the identities of those killed in the fields in faked encounters? THOUSANDS OF QUESTIONS And there are many more questions. In fact for every person killed, disappeared, tortured and illegally detained there is at a question. There are thousands of questions. THERE IS A NEED FOR AN INDEPENDENT ENQUIRY INTO THE ATTACK, THE MOTIVES, THE CONSTITUTIONAL LEGALITY, THE DISAPPEARED, THE EXTRA-JUDICIAL EXECUTIONS, THE TORTURED. THERE IS A NEED TO ASK WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN ANY CONVICTIONS OF ARMY AND POLCIE OFFICERS INVOLVED IN UNCONSTITUTIONAL ACTS. WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN ANY COMPENSATION FOR THE VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN ANY EFFORT TO REHABILITATE THOSE AFFECTED?
