  1. Some Sikhs completely get rid of their surname and take Singh instead. The children legally have to have the same surname as their father, hence you get Sikh girls called Singh.
  2. A lot of dumb Sikhs out there will think he is Sikh because he has Singh in his name.
  3. What I meant was we shouldn't care if Pakistanis speak Punjabi or not. All languages do die out or change so much that you cannot understand the older versions. English from 1000 years ago cannot be understood by today's speakers.
  4. It's definitely the case. From what I've seen Pakistani men do speak Punjabi amongst each other but the women prefer Urdu, it's somewhat similar with Hindu Punjabis. You should see the kind of names new parents are giving their kids these days, lots are choosing western/Carribean names and I'm sure it's being driven by the women.
  5. Lol Christians say that about every other religion.
  6. I'm in two minds about this guy. Apparently Tibet was a serfdom with the monks on top of society before the Chinese took over, basically indentured servitude. The Dalai Lama has also made some comments that have raised my eyebrows such as calling Indians lazy compared to Chinese people, that's pretty rich coming from a Buddhist monk who has never tolled away in harsh conditions and gets to fly first class around the world. Not a good thing to say about your host country. He also said that if there was ever a female Dalai Lama she must be good looking not ugly, which makes me think he sleeps around and isn't a celibate monk. I also think he was a western stooge to get back against communist China and now that the west somewhat relies on China they have abandoned him and you hardly see him on TV these days. Having said that, I've been to McLeodGanj/Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh and it's a great place. Well worth a visit, it's a 4 hour drive from Amritsar and Jalandhar, breathtaking views and the Tibetans are nice friendly people.
  7. If they want to speak Urdu and Hindi then why should we care. The Punjabi Hindus have ruined their reputation so much that people do not even know they exist. Most people outside of Punjab think that Punjab is a 100% Sikh state lol.
  8. Yeah, it's a relatively new phenomenon. At the end of the day they're just GAMES!
  9. Lol. Like I said earlier we ruled it just over 50 years and were still a minority behind the muslims and Hindus. Even in Amritsar weaver about 50 50 with Hindus. Are we just a rural community?
  10. Why do so many apne care about the status of Punjabi language in Pakistan? Who cares what happens over there? We should be grateful that we got a clean break from these suls in 1947. Also, Sikhism shouldn't be so heavily linked to Punjabi language. Is Buddhism heavily linked to Pali? A lot of the Guru Granth Sahib is in Braj Bhasha which is a Hindi dialect. Punjabi does not mean Sikh.
  11. They are not Punjabi, they Panjaabi. They also dance the bhaangra. In fact that's the only extent of their Punjabi language. The only cultural aspects they keep are the food and over the top weddings.
  12. Those Hindu Punjabis in Delhi and Mumbai have no links whatsoever to Punjab anymore, especially to rural based movies.
  13. I think you are living in some bubble. Punjabi cinema is nowhere near as big as Bollywood and never will be. Diljit has been trying to make a big break in Bollywood but is mostly flopping. The movies are mostly dumb comedies, they make Bollywood films look like French arthouse movies.
  14. Whilst casteism does certainly exist in Punjab, I've never heard of any such cases. Dalits are in very high numbers in Punjab and they would not take such nonsense. Punjab is better than Hindu majority states when it comes to these things.
  15. It's ok to watch now and then. The problem I have is with these team sports that are on every single week. The fans get too financially and emotionally invested.
  16. I was cricket mad in my younger days but watching it is one of the biggest wastes of time. T20 takes 3 hours to complete ODI takes 7 hours Test takes 5 days! I watched the World Cup last year but that's all I can manage. I've stopped following football as well apart from the Champions League Final and World Cup. I do watch boxing but that isn't every week and the fights are over in 45 mins. Think of all you can do in that time you spend watching cricket. You can learn a skill and do some personal development. At the end of the day whether a team wins or loses has no impact on your own life. The only people benefitting are the athletes. As the Roman's said sports are bread and circuses for the masses to keep them distracted from real problems.
  17. That's really sad. Sadly facts cannot be ignored. There will always be high crime rates where kaleh live. Just look at all of the stabbings in London, 90% are kaleh. Absent fathers and glorified 'thug life' is to blame.
  18. Yes look how upset they get when an outsider mocks them. It's the same with us and this movie. If this becomes a big hit I can guarantee you that some Sikhs will be mocked. Even in first world countries which somewhat understand illnesses people would get made fun off, what do you think will happen in a country like India.
  19. I wouldn't trust him. He already mocked Hindus in PK. The Punjabi film industry is miniscule in size and impact to Bollywood. A lot of the stars in Punjabi cinema are failed Bollywood actors.
  20. Maybe you didnt grow up in the 90s like I did but Sikh characters back then were often portrayed as stupid silly characters and they often had names like Chadda or Kohli. I don't want to see a return of this.
  21. Look that was never my intention. I just don't want Sikhs to get the reputation of being 'thick' and I don't want Sikh boys being bullied outside of Punjab due to movies like this.
  22. Yes I know but he was a simpleton. Why choose a Sikh for this specific role?
  23. I came across this upcoming Bollywood film which is a remake of Forrest Gump. It's produced by Aamir Khan and also starring him. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laal_Singh_Chaddha So who do they choose to play the low IQ dim witted lead character? A full Sardar. It's a disgrace and shows that Bollywood still hasn't changed much in it's portrayals of Sikhs. We're just simple minded do gooders to them.
  24. Get the OCI and if things start to look bad move before the real s4it hits the fan. Timing is key. My nana was born in Pakistan but moved to Indian Punjab in 1946 before the real hardcore violence started.
