The EDL may claim to be against Islamic extremism but their own actions are of extremists. They go outside Mosques while people are praying to almighty God, why on Earth do we want to ally ourselves to them? We Sikhs protect the rights of religious freedom not attack it, remember a couple of years ago during the London riots many Singhs guarded the Southall Mosque while our Muslim brothers prayed, that is what Sikhi is about. During that time we protected the Hindu jeweller shops which were a high priority for the looters, that is what Sikhi is about. All this is ok here but how do we get the message to the wider Sikh community who do not come to these sites nor hardly go to the Gurdwara. Also using the term Paki does not help the cause at all. I am surprised the moderators allow it.

Sikhs have a very good image in the UK these sorts attacks on people enjoying a meal will just give us all a bad name. What did the restaurant have to do with the "alleged" rape anyway, can somebody explain?

In recent years our Muslim brothers have been getting alot of bad press and stereotyping. To combat this some parts of the media has been doing the opposite but end up actually promoting Islam over other religions something which is just as bad. Have you guys seen the BBC one Sunday morning programme "The Big Questions" which discusses religious and moral affairs, On that programme they usually have a range of speakers which understandably include Christian priests but also a disproportionate high amount of Muslims in the audience and as guest speakers. There are hardly ever any Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists etc and that goes against the BBC's impartiality agenda. There are others issues too for example how many organizations now bend over backwards to stock Halal meat products (please don't turn this into a meat eating issue). Muslims are getting far too much coverage and that is suggesting to people that their message is the only one alterative to the Christian religion. All this is because Muslims are more organized and know how to get their agenda out there. What I suggest is that we all make an issue to email and write letters to media outlets so they know that they need to pay attention and do something about it. If this topic can be made into a sticky then people can post their issues concerning the topic here then others can also join in and increase the pressure. I have made a point about the BBC please add and other issues so we can do something about it. Hammer time made a good start with the Pakistani child grooming issue, lets all keep it up

Thanks I was just about to post the same address, I hope others will do the same as one or two emails can be ignored but not a constant barrage of protest. This is what I wrote, I wish to complain about the term "ASIAN" being used to describe child groomers who are facing trial as highlighted below. If it is important to describe the ethnic background of the culprits then it should be done correctly and should not be that the people from an entire continent be tarred with the same brush. The terms Indian, Hindu Sikh, Pakistani, Muslim etc. are all more relevant rather than Asian. Please take steps to feed this point through to your reporters. I look forward to a prompt reply.

The pressure needs to be kept up, we can't just have a short sprinting session of complaints but we need to turn the situation into a constant flow of action. We all need to keep sending emails and letters untill our points are heard and not just leave it to others to do so.

The simple reason is that they do not want a reminder of the massacres that took place, they would rather just ignore it all and tarnish Sikhs as trouble makers for demanding justice.

There are many "high" castes like Jatts and Dharkans who are now Christians.

There must be a reason why there have been so many Sikhs who left the Panth and looked towards Christianity? There are many lost Sikhs who need spiritual assistance. I remember I knew some Aunties in Southall and they were talking about how there was little guidance from the Granthis and were just instructed to read bani again and again, and although that may seem like good advice how does it help someone who cannot completely understand the meanings of Gurujis teachings that certainily is the case for many Sikhs. Even the older generation born in punjab understand little about their religion. Christians have study groups where they go over the bible and try to understand what each paragraph means and how it can help them. With our Granthis they will repeat the pehlee pauree of Japji Sahib but what about the rest??? Those aunties are now all Christians and many members of their families have followed them. I know Sikhi isn't meant to be a prosyletizing religion but we need to do more to keep the SIkhs within our religion. I know some Sikhs who take great steps toward reaching Guruji, there are mone who hae grown their Kesh, learnt Gurmukhi and become fluent in Bani but such strong willed Sikhs are generally few in number and most people are simple minded who are easily led. It is those people who need the most help. Our Gurdwarae are open to all but we need to do more to encourage people to come through the doors just how Islam and Christianity has managed to do so well.

How is is that Christians are so organized that they can reach out to non-Christians like Sikhs but our Gurdwara are not able to draw people born into Sikhi back into the religion they were born to. There isn't enough outreach towards the spirit of Sikhs and these groups are exploiting that and doing so well out of it.

If ghosts existed they would probably be lost souls seeking peace and would still be a part of Wahegurjis creation so why wouldn't they be welcome in his or her Darbaar?

History should never be forgotten because if you do how can you possibily learn from the mistakes you have made. If an alcoholic realises he drinks too much he can try to seek help and get better, if he does not he will drink himself to death. The state of India is in the same situation, if it had learnt from the mistakes made (to put it lightly) the Gujarat massacres would not had happened. The murders which happened in Delhi were truly genocide and just shows the sheer arrogance of the Indian government. It actively encouraged the murders of its minorities in its capital city knowing well that international dignitaries will be arriving for the funeral of Indira Gandhi in a matter of days and clearly were not concerned about them.

If Indira was planning to attack Sri Darbar Sahib regardless whether Bhindrawalla was there or not, what would have been her excuse to attack if Bhindrawalla had not occupied Sri Akal Takhat Sahib?

So much for a healthy discussion about imperative matters affecting the SIkh community. I hope there weren't any Sikhs looking at this thread for guidance but were rather searching for all sorts of non related posts. I do not think the moderators would agree with me on this matter.

So two Sikhs who smoke, drink etc are happily allowed to marry in a Gudwara but when a Sikh who wants to stay within his or her religion and wants to get the blessing of their Guru and their partner is happy to do the same we should push them away?

Why close this thread, that would be unecessarily draconian and not all in the light of Sikhism, <Edited> Islam maybe but not Sikhi.

I truly think that mixed marriages in a Gurdwara are not a threat to Sikhi but rather they help us in the modern age. When a Sikh gets married to say a Hindu or a Christian in a church or a registrar then that Sikh is losing a major connection he or she has to their Guru Sahib. However when that Sikh marries in a Gurdwara they bow down to Guruji and take a vow to be with their new life partner this makes sure their relationship stays strong. Eventually these new partners will have children of their own. They will grow knowing their parents were married in the presence of Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj and will visit Gudwara Sahib. On the other hand if we alienate such Sikhs we are pushing them further away from Sikhi something we can ill afford to do. They will feel betrayed by their brethren and will be instead wellcomed by Christian groups etc. who are already making massive leaps in getting many SIkhs to leave their religion and follow their path. I have known of many non-Sikh Indians marrying Sikh boys and girls and gradually they assimilate themseles into Sikhi because they hae been wellcomed with open arms. The children of these marriages are now Sikhs and have Singh and kaur included in their names (something many actual Sikhs are dropping) this is because their communities hae disowned them and have been embraced by Sikhism. Are we now really saying that we want to push them away and then many more along with them. If we say only a Sikh can marry another Sikh in a Gurdwara then how many of these supposed Sikhs actually qualify? Most are simply mone, drinking or smoking Sikhs. It is a well known matter that a new convert to a faith is more religious than those who just happen to be born in that faith. Let us not increase the number of Sikhs flowing away from Sikhi, but lets keep them within Gurujis sharda and also embrace those they bring with them.
