ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Rāmkalī mehlā 1.

Raamkalee, First Mehl:

ਸਾਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਬੂੰਦ ਬੂੰਦ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਕਵਣੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

Sāgar meh būnḏ būnḏ meh sāgar kavaṇ bujẖai biḏẖ jāṇai.

The drop is in the ocean, and the ocean is in the drop. Who understands, and knows this?

ਉਤਭੁਜ ਚਲਤ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਚੀਨੈ ਆਪੇ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੧॥

Uṯ­bẖuj cẖalaṯ āp kar cẖīnai āpė ṯaṯ pacẖẖāṇai. ||1||

He Himself creates the wondrous play of the world. He Himself contemplates it, and understands its true essence. ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ਕੋਈ ॥

Aisā gi­ān bīcẖārai ko­ī.

How rare are those who contemplate this spiritual wisdom.

ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Ŧis ṯė mukaṯ param gaṯ ho­ī. ||1|| rahā­o.

Through this, the supreme state of liberation is attained. ||1||Pause||

ਦਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਮਹਿ ਦਿਨੀਅਰੁ ਉਸਨ ਸੀਤ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੋਈ ॥

Ḏin meh raiṇ raiṇ meh ḏinī­ar usan sīṯ biḏẖ so­ī.

The night is in the day, and the day is in the night. The same is true of hot and cold.

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਮਝ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥

Ŧā kī gaṯ miṯ avar na jāṇai gur bin samajẖ na ho­ī. ||2||

No one else knows His state and extent; without the Guru, this is not understood. ||2||

ਪੁਰਖ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਮਹਿ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥

Purakẖ meh nār nār meh purkẖā būjẖhu barahm gi­ānī.

The female is in the male, and the male is in the female. Understand this, O God-realized being!

ਧੁਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥੩॥

Ḏẖun meh ḏẖi­ān ḏẖi­ān meh jāni­ā gurmukẖ akath kahānī. ||3||

The meditation is in the music, and knowledge is in meditation. Become Gurmukh, and speak the Unspoken Speech. ||3||

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਪੰਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਈ ॥

Man meh joṯ joṯ meh manū­ā pancẖ milė gur bẖā­ī.

The Light is in the mind, and the mind is in the Light. The Guru brings the five senses together, like brothers.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜਿਨ ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੪॥੯॥

Nānak ṯin kai saḏ balihārī jin ėk sabaḏ liv lā­ī. ||4||9||

Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who enshrine love for the One Word of the Shabad. ||4||9||
