PHAGWARA: An indefinite curfew was imposed in Phagwara town of Punjab on Monday and Army and BSF were called to assist the police here following large scale violence in protest against the attack at Vienna in Austria on a head of the Sachkhand dera near Jalandhar. One preacher was killed in attack.

The irate mob on Monday burnt two trains, ransacked shops before setting them on fire here. The mob went on rampage and beat up passerbys.

The reports said that the engine of Morya Durch express train running between Sohanpur and Jammu Tawi was damaged at the local railkway station and then certain miscreants sprinkled petrol and set it on fire. The engine was detached from train and major tragedy was averted. Four bogies of another Jammu bound train Madras Janta running between Kanya Kumari to Jammu Tawi were burnt at Jalandhar.

The situation in Lhawara and surrounding areas was tense and many tourists, rail and bus passengers are trapped in the blockade.
