Record-breaking £3.6m up for grabs for community projects from landfill tax

Saturday 27 June 2015

LANDFILL operator Veolia has awarded a record-breaking £3.6 million to its charity Veolia North Thames Trust.

The charity, which support community projects in Thurrock and others parts of south Essex, is now putting the call out to local charities to apply for funding.

Administrator Sally Miller said: We got a higher amount even than last years record £3 million, so this year we are really pleased.

It means we can support even more community projects and we have got even more money to give away anything from £50 to £200,000. Even the council can apply to us for funding!

Charities and local sports organisations and groups can apply for funding of public open spaces, community spaces, such as churches, sports halls, parks, greens, conservation and wildlife, sustainability and heritage.

The fund has previously given £114,571 to the Sikh Temple in Grays for community hall refurbishments and £67,000 for specialist play equipment at Blackshots Park.
