When we look back at past , we know we did accomplished a lot . In 1925 , we protected our religious identity from hindu fanatics like arya samajis and rss by creating Singh Sabha movements , liberated darbar sahib and Nanakana sahib from mahants , but had we gone one step further in our conquest , we might have avoided incidents 25 years ago , but look at it this way - Brits exploited us for world wars and we were so much distinguished from other indians that we were declared a "race" . Britishers still think sikhs are not just a religion , but also a race ! But , I think all this was mere lip service . Had they been really serious and really considered for us , they …

The Symbols of a Heritage by I.J. Singh “History”, as T.S. Eliot said “has many cunning passages, contrived corridors and issues . . .”. Insofar as religions deal with people, places and events, they are amenable to historical analyses. But religions deal with a reality that transcends history — a reality that the senses cannot perceive and the intellect cannot fathom, yet with which the soul can commune. At that point in awareness one is in the domain of faith. Faith is better than belief. In belief someone else does the thinking for you; in faith, you accept the truth not at someone else’s say so, but because you have internalized it and endorsed it. Belief can matur…

This short paper explores the fate of the Panjabi language under British rule, written from a Pakistani perspective. One of the things I found interesting is the author's analysis of why the Brits initially tried to push Urdu as the formal state language for communication after their invasion. The way people subsequently divided themselves along a linguistic basis, which was really a barely concealed cleaving along religious lines is significant. This seems to have kicked off the polarisation between Panjabis of different faiths. After the British left, we saw the continuation of the same pattern emerge between Sikhs and Hindus during the Panjab suba lehar. Panjabi lang…

While reading Guru Granth Sahib Darphan by Prof. Sahib Singh Ji I was reading the introduction of Baba Farid Jee's Sloks I noticed some interesting facts that go again't what I have heard in katha done by Giani Thakur Singh and Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji on the sloks of Baba Farid Ji. Prof. Sahib Singh Writes that the Bani of Baba Farid Ji in Guru Granth Sahib Ji is of Baba Farid Jee the first, not Sheikh Brama, Sheikh Ibrahim. 2. Farid Jee got "Ghang Shakar" added to his name not because of the story we all know but that his life was sweet and people were attracted to him. 3. also another interesting note is in Prof Ji's book "Adi Birh Barai" My link that the Pothis' b…

Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh A poem, I think we should relate to. Puanjabi You ask me what I mean by saying I have lost my tongue. I ask you, what would you do if you had two tongues in your mouth, and lost the first one, the mother tongue, and could not really know the other, the foreign tongue. You could not use them both together even if you thought that way. And if you lived in a place you had to speak a foreign tongue, your mother tongue would rot, rot and die in your mouth until you had to spit it out. I thought I spit it out but overnight while I dream, it grows back, a stump of a shoot grows longer, grows moist, grows strong …
