Like..."here, have a wine cooler" or "don't you want a hair cut now?" etc. etc...Anyway Vicky, ur ADMIN so that ought to be the fattest clue ever what I might be rebelling against... :TH: ..but SSHHHHH!!!
  5. Just curious to know how you would go about being rebellious against parents for example, and end up successful? How do you win an argument? and maybe, whats a bad technique for rebelling? what never works?
  6. http://www.panthic.org/news/133/ARTICLE/15...71d2c778fd10fc0 Women’s Facial Hair Issues and Answers Sunday 24th July, 2005 Yashpal Kaur – Panthic Weekly Columnist (KP) – In this modern era of human society, it has become nearly a mandatory expectation that women have a clean face, free from facial hair. Whether it is because of the ideal women portrayals from Hollywood, Bollywood, fashion, or commercial advertisements, it has indeed become an increasingly growing problem for young women who aspire to be true Sikhs one day, and obtain Khande ki Pahul Amrit from the Panj Pyare. Even Punjab has become home to countless beauty parlors as increasing numbers of women are opting for facial hair jobs, to mention the number of young women from Sikh families who are taking beauty parlor courses. From a sociological perspective, we feel obligated to surrender ourselves to the norms of the dominant society we live in. Within the dominant culture exist many small subcultures often viewed as extremists, outcasts, simply weird or “uncool” because by their mere existence challenge the dominant norm. We are constantly evaluating another person’s impression of us. We often develop our self image based on how others perceive us. As a result, we are consumed with the thought that facial hair is not normal, and go to great lengths to conform to the norms of our parents, family, and ambient culture we live in: dunIAw kwrix dInu gvwieAw ]5] dhuneeaa kaaran dheen gavaaeiaa ||5|| For the sake of the world, people have lost their faith. ||5|| (Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 1410) However, it is a mandatory requirement for any Sikh to maintain his unshorn hair. It is a bujjar kurehat (cardinal sin) to alter the body’s hair by means such as shaving, waxing, trimming, plucking, dying, etc. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji says on Ang 443: romy roim roim romy mY gurmuiK rwmu iDAwey rwm ] romae rom rom romae mai guramukh raam dhhiaaeae raam || With each and every hair, with each and every hair, as Gurmukh, I meditate on the Lord. Many Sikh women do not realize the consequences of hair removal from the body. It is a most difficult sacrifice for someone who has already evolved somewhat in Sikhi to leave their known life and present themselves in front of the Panj Pyare to receive Amrit. That former life will die to be replaced by the new life of a Gursikh which requires great effort and obedience. A person who surrenders themselves completely to the Guru should obey every hukam (command) to the best of his or her ability. Only a person with such understanding realizes the consequences of stepping back and following the orders of self-willed Manmukhs. A Sikh who bends to the pressures of society will also experience a downfall in their spirituality which can eventually lead to severe depression and a sense of confusion. They may lose the sense of belonging because what they value most was taken away from them. Feelings of lost purpose or mission in life, severe depression, confusion, and the lack of interest in one’s life can lead one to become suicidal. One can ponder," What’s the point to this life if we can’t even live by the principles of Sikhism? " However, the Gurus rejected suicide as a solution to one’s problems. Countless Sikhs have been martyred when they could have easily killed themselves to avoid the pain of torture. The Gurus instead ask the Sikh to turn to Gurbani and Simran to seek solace and regain a foothold on the path. Although many men who aspire to be Sikhs face discrimination by keeping a full beard, it is just as equally challenging for women today. Young women are being forced by their parents to consider electrolysis and other hair removal techniques that they be more marriageable. These procedures are expensive, tedious, and painful and they are not 100% permanent as some people assume. New follicles are regenerated by the skin in a few years and if it is done improperly it can cause infection, skin damage, and even partial to fuller regrowth of the hair. Surprisingly, we are still willing to take the risk and undergo the procedure. Parents who fear they will not find a suitable match for their daughter if she has facial hair need to ask themselves a few common sense questions. Firstly, realize that by removing hair we prove to ourselves that we do not have full faith in our Guru. How will we ever know if our son-in-laws are truly Sikhs at heart if we never give them the opportunity to see our daughters with their God-given natural face? How can we marry our daughters to men who can not look beyond the skin? It is a huge mistake on our part as Sikh parents to wish our daughters to commit such an act of cardinal sin. Bhai Nand Lal Ji’s Thankhaanama warns: gur bcn isau qUtw jwie ] drgih qWkau imlY sjwie]15] gur bachan sio thoottaa jaae || dharagehi thaa(n)ko milai sajaaei||15|| Those who turn away from their responsibility to accept the Guru's orders will receive punishment in God's Court. And as Sikh parents we need to understand our crucial obligation to educate and expose our children from the cradle onwards and take our children to the Gurdwara Sahib to Gurujee and sangat. It would be morally reprehensible to force our children to step away from that Guru’s doorway and force them instead to follow shallow norms in conflict with our Guru’s teachings. 7. probably quite a typical scene in the alleyways of villages in punjab as men come home too drunk and fall in the nasty sewage naaleeya... some would say that if you find an amritdhari singh like that drunk lying in the street, take off his kirpan cuz its beadbi to it.
  8. Just wanna know if gurseva hub is still up and running? I keep getting "Connection Timed Out" anyone else having same problem or can you connect to it just fine?

(Vaaran Bhai Gurdaas Ji, Vaar 10). Raja Harishchandra had a wife named Taramati Rani. She was quite beautiful and Raja Harishchandra was happy. However, he did not like to do sangat or being in the company of God oriented saintly people. Taramati Rani, on the other hand heard of a holy congregation which would meet daily at amritvela or in the early hours of the morning prior to dawn. Taramati Rani would awaken each morning in the early ambrosial hours. She would bathe and then dress nicely to join the congregation of holy sages. She would walk the distance and after spending a few hours in the sangat, she would return home before Raja Harishchandra would awaken to start his day. ipCoN rwjw jwigAw A`DI rwq inKMf ivhwxI] pishho(n) raajaa jaagiaa aadhhee raath nikha(n)dd vihaanee|| After she had left, the King awoke in the middle of the night and realised she had gone. rwxI ids n AwveI mn ivc vrq geI hYrwxI] raanee dhis n aavee man vich varath gee hairaanee|| He could not find the Queen anywhere and his heart filled with astonishment One night after Taramati Rani had left to join the holy congregation Raja Harishchandra woke up suddenly. Later in the morning Raja Harishchandra asked his wife where she had been in the night but she did not tell him and brushed the topic aside. He devised a plan to find out where she went in the late night hours. The following morning, Taramati Rani awakened at her usual time, took a bath and got dressed to go join her holy congregation. After she left the palace, Raja Harishchandra followed her. He expected to find that she was seeing another man at night after leaving his bed. But he was surprised to find her joining the company of holy sages and saints. For the few hours that Taramati Rani was in sangat enjoying Naam, Raja Harishchandra stood outside listening and enjoying as well. He dared not enter but he also did not want to leave yet. As the hour was coming to an end, Raja Harishchandra returned to his senses and remembered why he had followed his wife here. He took one of her sandals with him so later at home he would show it to her as proof that he had caught her going out at night. He quickly left and returned to the palace awaiting the queen’s arrival. When Taramati Rani came outside she found one sandal missing. She and the sangat searched but could not find the missing sandal. She was deeply worried because it was an expensive sandal that Raja Harishchandra had gotten especially made for her embedded with jewels and stones. Alas, the sangat suggested praying and God willing a solution would be found. Together they supplicated in prayer and asked that the missing sandal be found. 13. lol, old people are sooo wrong sometimes with their ideas. we got a gurdwara here, across the street from a lil convenient store owned by punjabi 'sikh' and of course they sell beer and cigs. so now its real easy: go to gurdwara and after lunch, pick up a few packs of beer or a bottle for the party in the evening  eeediots
  14. someone has tried this solution for regrowth of hair: Rub in sesame seed oil in you scalp and leave it on for an hour, then wash your hair. Do it everyday. One person had new hair growing back after about 6 weeks. Found this out from my aunty in UK.
  15. ok firstly thanks for my birthday wishes, but i'm looking for gift idea for my masi ji! i never know what to get anyone for their bday, why this task always land on me? ppl, put on ur thinking caps  _oh_OLD:
  16. I need to give me mom an idea for what to get for her sister's 65th birthday which is june 25. I have no fricken idea what would be a good gift for someone that age. Anyone have any suggestions? @
  17. woWw now thats some good stuff!!
  18. actually I dunno of any site with that info but I juz heard from some kirtan video that theres a maryada on how to make karaa parshad, a maryada on how to distribute degh to sangat, and a maryada of how to accept degh (when u take it from the sevadaar)...
  19. are we using any lines from Bhai Gurdaas Ji's Vaars? but english translation is only up to like Vaar 20th I think...
  20. oh yeah...i want to graduate as soon as i can cuz i wanna go enjoy my life before my parents stick me with some weirdo guy ....so like i don't wanna get stuck letting the semesters waste away retaking classes or taking classes i dont' even need in the first place (my cousins were taking witchcraft for fun  @ ) kinda not fair....you guys get extra few years to kill/enjoy...girls are married between 22-25 average...and its like, we're harldy even out of college yet and then we get married... don't get no time to be yourself
  21. thanks everyone for the help i saw that sierra river college in rocklin has chem 1b seats still open...but now my vacation is clashing with it since I'll be not here when summer skool starts for that class. and the one that starts on june 20 is full  mannn....i'm stuck now, dunno what to do i never failed any class before in my life ....getting a D won't hurt my finacial aid from FAFSA right? or do they check your grades/GPA? anyhoo, I feel kinda fed up already with science labs. Its starting to annoy for some reason...dunno why really. The classes I took so far for the bio major, I got some kind of C in all of them :plant bio, calculus for life sciences, chem 1A....dunno about animal bio yet, I hope my grade hadn't dropped to a low C before the final...I always got a D on the lab practical exams I even flipped thru the catalog again for like the 500th time so far since I got it 2 years ago....the next major of interest is Criminal Justice...now I juz gotta do some research to find out the chances of getting a job with that in cali. I figure if theres always crime and criminals...there'll always be a job yeh? When I was in senior year I thought about being a FBI agent for a few days. I went on their website and checked out some stuff, saw their program thing for how they hire you. I saw the thing about how you have to go to Virginia, some palce with letter Q i think...and this WHOLE physical test lasting 16 weeks. You gotta be able to do so many pushups and run fast and everything. I can't even do 5 pushups properly and can't even do a 1/4 of a pull up ...so then I said forget it, I cant' get that physically fit. And I didn't research into it any further. but then again...sometimes i watch americas most wanted...and some of the FBI ppl you see on the show...they dont' look like they are physically fit and can do 50 pushups .....and what if you're job is to check ppl's financial stuff, those accounting ppl. They'll be in front of a computer probably all day or on the phone, checking someone's bank reports....I dont' think they need to be physically fit....someone who works indoors away from the actual ciminal doesn't need to be able to sprint right..? So far I like the Investigation aspect of criminal justice. I probably can't do corrections cuz you gotta be big and buff sorta to handle the prisoners...and me so small person and shorty  administration might be cool, but i'm not leader type of person, i'm a follower medical field was really good, ppl always sick so there's always gonna be jobs there....but I think if I'm doing so badly in the begininng classes...I'm not gonna do any good in the later harder classes...and I'm not liking it no more...i be falling asleep in those classes... ..... Vicky you know anything about criminal justice field in cali?
  22. woww  some good stuff here which i totally didn't see before when this thread came up in the first place. I'd have to respect the lady that lives with her facial hair and doesn't care what ppl around her think. I'd have to respect the singh who marries her even more. sometimes I wonder though...it might be that a singh doesn't care if his lady has facial hair...but sometimes its his mother who doesn't want to get a daughter-in-law who has facial hair??
  23. well i was trying to find another college for summer skool class...i know los rios district colleges, only sac city is offering chem 1b, and thats full. so i was looking at this page: http://search.californiacolleges.edu/Defau...0&qu=&x=24&y=21 and i don't know none of these other ones or where they are... any cali pplz know if theres another one within reasonable distance to sacramento? like...maybe within 40 mile radius..? like a one hour drive to get there is fine...but probably classes are all booked by now anyway.... dammm...i'm in deep shet now...still have to tell my parents i failed...
  24. ...i thought so! ok, padched it is then. I'll do one photo first in different fonts and styles, etc. and we'll see which style looks the best.
