  3. try reading along in the english gurmukhi with the tape and then go over the meanings after
  4. What my opinion is read one line of gurbani then the meaning for the whole paat. reading just the english translation doesnt count as having recited the bani accrording to what i think but the thing is the translations arent allways accurate and there is no substitute for bani reading it over and over again you'll slowly start to understand so reading english translations and listening to katha aid in that. <==new smiley face i think forgive me 4 any mistakes
  5. Air India witness tells story to magazine Kim Bolan, Vancouver Sun Published: Monday, July 30, 2007 A mystery witness who said he was too fearful to testify at the Air India inquiry has now provided detailed information to an Indian magazine about the confession and in custody killing of Talwinder Singh Parmar. The witness, Harmail Singh Chandi, is a former Punjab police officer, who says he was present when Parmar admitted his involvement in the June 1995 bombing during an intensive interrogation over five days in October 1992. Tehelka Magazine quotes Chandi saying Parmar implicated Inderjit Singh Reyat, a long-identified suspect named Lal Singh and Lakhbir Singh Brar, a founder of the International Sikh Youth Federation who once lived in Vancouver. Chandi said he kept a tape-recording of the confession even though senior officers told him to destroy it prior to ordering Parmar's in-custody execution. Chandi first approached the RCMP's AIr India Task Force in 2002 and some of the information he provided came out during pre-trial arguments in the trial of Ripudaman Singh Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri. Chandi then approached the judicial inquiry headed by John Major, but refused to testify once he arrived in Ottawa. But the identify of the retired Punjab police officer has been protected until now. Punjab police have always maintained that Parmar died in a shoot-out with police, but his family has always contradicted the official version. The RCMP went to Parmar's family in 2002 to confirm that Parmar had been killed in custody. They did not provide details of Chandi's statement, but said evidence had come forward that might be revealed at the Air India trial. The Sun first reported in Oct. 1992 that it appeared Parmar had been arrested and killed in custody and a Sun reporter later confirmed that Parmar had confessed, but only while he was being tortured. A Parmar relative said Monday that "none of this is new," but asked that his name not be used. The RCMP has so far declined comment. Michael Tansey, spokesman for the Air India inquiry, said the commission became aware of the magaizine late Friday but cannot say much about the information it contains. "The information is of interest to the commission," Tansey said Monday. "It is pertinent to the work the commission is doing." He would not say whether the information is the evidence that the inquiry had hoped to hear in June when the mystery witness refused to take the stand, even with his identity shielded. But Tansey did say that he expected the earlier evidence to make it into the official record in some form when the inquiry resumes Sept. 10. According to the Indian magazine report, Parmar's confession states: "Around May 1985, a functionary of the International Sikh Youth Federation came to me and introduced himself as Lakhbir Singh and asked me for help in conducting some violent activities to express the resentment of the Sikhs. I told him to come after a few days so that I could arrange for dynamite and battery etc. He told me that he would first like to see a trial of the blast... After about four days, Lakhbir Singh and another youth, Inderjit Singh Reyat, both came to me. We went into the jungle (of British Columbia). There we joined a dynamite stick with a battery and triggered off a blast. Lakhbir and Inderjit, even at that time, had in their minds a plan to blast an aeroplane. I was not too keen on this plan but agreed to arrange for the dynamite sticks. Inderjit wanted to use for this purpose a transistor fitted with a battery...That very day, they took dynamite sticks from me and left. "Then Lakhbir Singh, Inderjit Singh and their accomplice, Manjit Singh, made a plan to plant bombs in an Air India (AI) plane leaving from Toronto via London for Delhi and another flight that was to leave Tokyo for Bangkok. Lakhbir Singh got the seat booking done from Vancouver to Tokyo and then onwards to Bangkok, while Manjit Singh got it done from Vancouver to Toronto and then from Toronto to Delhi. Inderjit prepared the bags for the flights, which were loaded with dynamite bombs fitted with a battery and transistor. They decided that the suitcases will be booked but they themselves will not travel by the same flights although they will take the boarding passes. After preparing these bombs, the plan was ready for execution by June 21 or 22, 1985. However, the bomb to be kept in the flight from Tokyo to Delhi via Bangkok exploded at the Narita airport on the conveyor belt. The second suitcase that was loaded on the Toronto-Delhi ai flight exploded in the air." The former Punjab police officer gave his evidence to the Punjab Human Rights Organization who is alleging that the ISYF leader Brar was actually an Indian government agent. Brar, nephew of slain separatist leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, now lives in Pakistan. http://www.chroniclejournal.com/CP_stories.php?id=56818 http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/st...9fd&k=23475 *im posting this because it was on my homepage google news today lol, i really dont know much about the air india thing so im pretty lost but whoevers interested i hope u could tell me if this article is bad or good news lol

  7. i Admit... that i cant manage to wake up for amrit vela and i also admit that i still swear
  8. I just took amrit like 2 weeks ago and it was because i had that thirst, i just couldnt watch another amrit sanchar go by,, go with that inner feeling becuase God gives you that feeling i was thinking a month ago oh ill take amrit later no rush that was my mind talking but when i was sitting in darbar sahib and there was announcement that there was an amrit sanchar i was like whatt!!?? i felt like crying because my soul had that thirst to take amrit but i didnt have my kakkars on and i diidnt wash my hair in the morning which is the minimum requirement. So when i found out the next amrit sanchar was coming up i started doing my nitnem everyday and doing ardas. This pushes u to get into the routine of keeping rehat. be4 i took amrit i would do my nitnem everyday even if i woke up at 2 pm and then i started trying to get up for amrit vela too. i would suggest u prepare yourself and go to gurdwara on more of a regular basis if you dont alreayd do seva listen to kirtan. GET inspiration from the internet. Oh one more thing practise wearing ur kakkars for atleast a week so u get used to it and not accidently remove your kakkars or drop your kangha AMimRqu pIvhu sdw icru jIvhu hir ismrq And Anµqw ] a(n)mrith peevahu sadhaa chir jeevahu har simarath anadh ana(n)thaa || So drink in forever the Ambrosial Nectar; may you live long, and may the meditative remembrance of the Lord give you infinite delight.
  9. i totally forgot today was july 1 which equals Canada Day. Big woop (iv never seen this be4)
  10. There are different jathas and th go by different names the reason we have these jathas is because people have different beliefs for examply some people are more strict (ex.no fast food only eating out of sarblod batay) The reason why people follow baba is because they dont know any better
  11. To those who once took Amrit . . . author unknown . . . . . . . . . . S I K H J O U R N A L . . . . . . . . . . Vol. IV • Issue 13 YOU GAVE GURU GOBIND SINGH JI YOUR HEAD, BUT THEN YOU TOOK IT BACK Guru Gobind Singh Ji tried, to keep you on the right track You gave Him your head, but then you took it back Turning your back on Guru Ji, how did it feel? Or were you too busy convicing yourself, that "It's really no big deal" Remember that day when you took Amrit and made a vow? What happened to those promises, who is your Guru now? You sold out your Sikhi, and that’s the plain truth You ruined this precious life, saying "I want to enjoy my youth" To make yourself feel better, you can say whatever you want to But one dreadful day, your words will come to haunt you And when that day comes, you will regret what you have done You lost your honour, in a battle you should have won This world is just maya, it will take your Sikhi away Tell me, did you forget that you are gonna die one day? When this dream called life reaches its end Then who will be your saviour, your helper, your True Friend? There is still hope, you need to sharpen your mind Go towards Guru Ji, and the Truth you will find To merge with God, you were sent to earth Trying to impress the world, you wasted the human birth Did you think of those mothers, who wore their babies around their necks? Or did all you think about, was attracting the opposite sex? The very same hair that Guru Ji put Amrit in You grabbed the scissors, and committed the ultimate sin Guru Ji's Sons gave their lives, so you can be a Sikh Their Sikhi remained strong, with each and every brick Now is the time, for you to wake up and take control Guru Ji is the water, that will sooth your burning soul Do you really want to come back to this hell on earth? Wandering and suffering, birth after birth You say you're not ready to take Amrit, thats always your reply But think about this...are you ready to die? You think you'll practice Sikhi, in the future when you are old But tell me, do you know when your body will turn cold? When it’s all said and done, you will be full of sorrow and regret You'll want to go to Sach Khand, but the requirements were not met Guru Ji's arms are wide open, and He is waiting for you It’s time to take action, and do what you gotta do Change your life RIGHT NOW!, don't wait another day Tomorrow may never come, then what will be left to say? That Guru Gobind Singh Ji tried to put me on the right track I gave Him my head, but then I took it back. __________________ *sorry if this poem has already be posted on this forum but i did search to see if it was and there was an error
  12. your suppose to encourage your spouse to take amrit with you. Say 2 people are married and both are not amritdharee, if one wants to take amrit and goes to the amrit sanchar by himself/herself they punj piarey with give him/her amrit one condition that they will not keep a physical relationship with their partner until they too become amritdharee. The choice is yours it comes down to what rehat maryada you go by strict or whatever. I think its a great thing if 2 people get married then they get amrit together the key is to get amrit together or alreayd be amritdharee be4 marriage. bul chuk maaf carni(sor y if iv offended you or made any mistakes in the above statement)
  13. iv allways found it odd seeing pictures of hindu gods in sikh homes its very common in india, i went there last year and pretty much everyhouse has it. Only people that seem to be strict amritdharees dont have them.
  14. that was a great post just made me think that even after making the worst mistakes in my life my mom will never abandon me :sady: i love my mom <3
  15. 2)What is the point of sleeping - again i know we have to sleep but y do people sleep too much??? Because were lazy well im lazy thats why not everyone can wake up at amrit vela you need kirpa and no laziness. People like me oversleep because there to lazy to get out of bed and do something productive they just waste their lives sleeping. :sady: Im only 18 but i feel like everynight that goes by and i dont wake up at amritvela is just like sleeping my life away. I got this human life for a reason but im not making the best of it imnot doing what i was sent here to do :umm: This Shabad is by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Raag Gauree on Pannaa 156 rYix gvweI soie kY idvsu gvwieAw Kwie ] rain gavaaee soe kai dhivas gavaaeiaa khaae || The nights are wasted sleeping, and the days are wasted eating. hIry jYsw jnmu hY kaufI bdly jwie ]1] heerae jaisaa janam hai kouddee badhalae jaae ||1|| Human life is such a precious jewel, but it is being lost in exchange for a mere shell. ||1||
  16. I read in Gurmat Rehat Maryada that " If a married person takes Amrit by themselves and their spouse is not Amritdharee, then he/she can not have a physical relationship with them unless they too become Amritdharee" I thought this made sense so when i told someone whos going to take amrit soon there like thats right but what about so and so they just got married and hes amritdharee and shes not. The only answer i have is it's Kaljug. Sangat ji what are your views on this.
  17. its hard to wake up for amrit vela but make sure you do you paat after you wake up in the morning after your ishnaan even if its late just eat after your done your paat. Do the full 7 banis a day. Make sure you do rakhia de shabad and kirtan sohila before going to sleep. (then you wont get bad dreams)

    No Pyaar...

One way to develop pyar for bani is a whole is to read the meanings and relate to the meanings. Thinking of Japji saheb i thought of this line : swlwhI swlwih eyqI suriq n pweIAw ] saalaahee saalaahi eaethee surath n paaeeaa || The praisers praise the Lord, but they do not obtain intuitive understanding ndIAw AqY vwh pvih smuMid n jwxIAih ] nadheeaa athai vaah pavehi samu(n)dh n jaaneeahi || the streams and rivers flowing into the ocean do not know its vastness. smuMd swh sulqwn igrhw syqI mwlu Dnu ] samu(n)dh saah sulathaan girehaa saethee maal dhhan || Even kings and emperors, with mountains of property and oceans of wealth kIVI quil n hovnI jy iqsu mnhu n vIsrih ]23] keerree thul n hovanee jae this manahu n veesarehi ||23|| -these are not even equal to an ant, who does not forget God. ||23||
  19. myrw bYdu gurU goivMdw ] maeraa baidh guroo govi(n)dhaa || My physician is the Guru, the Lord of the Universe. I was planning on getting a counceller just a few months ago because i felt so depressed (I dont know if i was actually in depression because i havent gone to a doctor) But then my mom told me that God's the true counceller. I went with her advice and started doing more paat and its like God took all my problems away. I was crying on the way to gurdwara one day and then when i got to gurdwara i just went did my ardas before I matha teaked and i just said everything on my mind and it was difficult cuz my mind couldnt find the words to express my feelings. I mainly said please take this pain away from me , i dont want to remeber what has happened. After that its like i never rembered what i was feeling depressed about. I wanted to go to counceller because i thought it would help take my pain and depression away but i believe its a good thing i didnt end up going because this dukh (pain) that i recieved turned into daroo. (from rehraas saheb) dhukh dhaaroo sukh rog bhaeiaa jaa sukh thaam n hoee || Suffering is the medicine, and pleasure the disease, because where there is pleasure, there is no desire for God. If i had never recieved any pain from my family and friends i would have never turned to God. I didn't believe in God but when your at your lowest and God helps you then you realize he has always been there as your support and you just have never appreciated or noticed. I hope this post has been relevant to your topic.
  20. haha i dont understand why your embarassed the bhajis on this forum chose to post to this topic, they could have just read it moved on but they decided to be helpful so i dont see anything wrong with that.
