  3. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! I would like to invite you to a special events being organized at : Sri Guru HarKrishan Sahib Ji Gudwara 12 Sherborne Street, Manchester, M3 1FE. (see attached poster) on Saturday 20th October 2007 from 7 pm to 8.30 pm (followed by Kirtan and Langar). We have the great opportunity to have a popular youth speaker from Birmingham who will be running a seminar tackling the many problems facing our Sikh youth in the 21st century. This is a great opportunity for youth and parents to be able to take part in this wonderful event that should appeal to all (Judging by the numerous problems being posted on here about our youth). I ask you to please forward these details to other sangat members and print out and make the posters available for the sangat in your community. MODS: Please make this a sticky!!!!!!! Please pass this information on to all your friends and put some posters up in your local Gudwara!!!!
  4. Let's stop all our in-fighting, bickering are arguing about everything thing under the sun and think about what is really important here... I came across this website which is great reading for all of us sinners to reconcile our own problems and actually begin to do something that will help us towards our real goal.... http://www.info-sikh.com/PageNarak1.html
  5. I was just wondering if anything has happened about this comment from a radio presenter: http://www.sikhnet.com/sikhnet/news.nsf/Ne...725735D0044A4E4
  6. That USB port may actually be a DVI port...if it looks like a USB one it IS a DVI port. There are NO monitors that will connect via a USB. Most are VGA but if you have a better graphics card you will have a DVI socket.
  7. Thanks bhaji. It's a non-commercial venture.. just a simple stall to make people aware of a Sikh ladies support network to help our Kaurs out...it's really only to make the folks down your end aware of what is available to their Kaurs and youth. Many thanks
  8. Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji ki Fateh Do any of you guys know if there are still stalls available? Or whether we can setup a small table area for our Sikh Womens Welfare group? PM or let me know and I'd be very greateful!!!!!
  9. Its a cultural thing...don't forget Hinduism is part of the CULTURE of india and is more than a religion by itself. I guess this is part of parcel of the worlds oldest religion. Pictures and just pictures. Its the person who adores them who then makes them into something more. Having a picture of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Ji next to each other is just that. nothing more. If you start to worship them or such then they becomes idols and that's where the issue comes from.
  10. Regardless of whether she had an affair or not, it is NOT justifiable to strangle her and dump her in a river in India stuffed inside a suitcase. Full STOP!
  11. Justice http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7002404.stm :WW: :WW: :WW:
  12. Does anyone have the contact details for any organizers or members of Kaurageous? We (in the North West) need to speak to some members of Kaurageous who can help with giving talks up here and also help with a network we are setting up. Could you PM me any details or put me in contact with the right people who can help. Thanks!!!!
  13. We are based in and around Lancashire. We are looking for speakers to give short talks to kids (5-18) and adults/parents. Transport is not an issue nor is accomodate. We have had a number of really good contact details from VeerJi Manvir Singh, and we are looking for more. If anyone knows of any female speakers that would be excellent. There must be loads in and around the midlands. We urgently require some speakers and would like the sangats help in this matter. The topics of the talks we will give out later or give to the speakers but if anyone can help it would be appreciated!!! fateh
  14. How do you go about tracking down speakers? I need to find some experienced speakers to do talks at our local Gudwara focussing on certain topics. Could anyone help me with this? Thanks
  15. Is this the one of Rookery Road, Handsworth? What about eating at other 'non-Sikhi' pure-vegetarian places? We get our food from our local pure-vege sweet centre (which happens to be owend by a Hindu guy) and we don't have an issue with it or any other place, so long as the indian food is pure vegetarian.
  16. Just to add to this controversy, Bin Laden is an <banned word filter activated>, no doubt....but he DID NOT say the word convert but rather 'embrace', suggesting that the US should 'accept' and 'acknowledge' Islam rather then convert. Just my take on the situation. Either way the guy is a total <banned word filter activated>!!!!
  17. It's become more of a cultural item nowadays...I doubt many folks actually understand the background behind it. Like many things in India, the culture of India is VERY MUCH tied into Hinduism. This isn't a bad thing at all, so I don't think we should have this '...anything Hindu-based is bad...' notion. We do it and I know LOTS of Sikhs families (inc. AmtriDhair) who do this. I DOUBT many do it because of the Hindu-religious identity it has, but more because it's embedded in the CULTURE of Indians. Buy the way, i'm one of those people who actually LIKE India. India is a great country and has a rich background and history. I am aware of the impact it has had upon Sikhi, but India is thriving and I am looking ahead and forward, but have not forgotten the ugly history of India. No doubt there will be the usual suspects who will attack what I've just said but so be it!!!
  18. Thank you thank you thank you!!! For all the replies. We've been in contact with Sikhhelpline and they are in the process of helping us out. Thanks also to those who PM me with support and help. The situation is sad but I'm grateful there are some decent folk out there who are so willing to help this Singhnee out in her time of need. Could someone PM me contact details for anyone who can help from Kaurgeous? We are really looking for someone who has worked with abused/homeless Singhnee....
  19. WGJK WGJF I'm asking the Sangat for some help...urgent help. I need contact numbers for Sikh Womens helpline or safe-houses or something like that. A Singhnee friend of mines needs somewhere safe to stay and somewhere where other female sangat members can help her. It's a long and private issue which I DO NOT want to go into. If anyone in Birmingham knows a family who can look after her (shes 19) for a while or if you know of any Sikh Womens helplines or organisations for battered or abused sikh women can you please help. Hope someone can help.
  20. Just a thought, recently a number of posts have been closed for being too personal etc... I'm not saying this post is being personal, but some related posts on here regarding this particular post have been quite nasty towards the family. I DO NOT agree with them for doing what they are planning, but who cares?? If they really want to change their daughters religion let them...its doesnt affect you or me and it shows their faith is weak. The conversation and discussion should end there and should not go beyond that point where peopel starting taking the P*SS out of that family etc.... People make mistakes in their life, perhaps this is one but we are not to judge. Let them lead their lifes as they see fit and choose their own path. Only Maharaji can judge, in the end, if they right or wrong.
  21. Maharaji can be bought from online shops such as DTFBOOKS...I 'purchased' the gurmuki/english translation for 80 pounds. Many places sell the english translation...whether that in itself is bad or not I'm not going to get into a debate about it....
  22. Just go for the MAC>..really...I can do use both windows and mac os side by side using Parallels (am using it at the moment). Its runs fine...OS X DOESNT crash...its just sweet!! its the little things though that make it worth it..like the hibernation and sleep mode...you close the lid and its sleeps IMMEDIATELY!!! You open the lid and it wakes up IMMEDIATELY!!!! The build is excellent...it great!!! I would go for the MAC....windows is doomed...
  23. There are reports that Guru Nanak Ji went as afar as Rome....but this is something that they are still trying to find evidence off. Bearing in mind Maharaji carried out his Udasis via foot, it's amazing to consider the vast distances he travelled....I think the representations of Maharaji Nanak in the form of a image DO NOT do him justice, for such a fit and healthy man (physically and spiritually) !!!!!!!
  24. I think I'm gonna be off topic but I wanna say how great MACS are!!! I was an AVID WINDOWS user....from ME to VISTA....with many laptops over the years from HP to IBM to SONY and most recently ACER. ACERs are CRAPPPPPY...build quality is laughable!!! Anyway...as I work in the University, we get a educational discount. SO I bought a MacBook 2.13 GHZ....around 700 quid. Let me just say that its the best investment ever..... Its build quality is excellent...the way the package it says it all really. The software was something I was worried about...but MAC OS X just works!!! No issues at all...simple to use and very user friendly. With Parallel Desktop installed I'm able to EAISLY switch between MAC and Windows (Windows to run scientific and math software) and with no lag in power. Whatever base OS MAC is based upon..Apple is the way to go...everything Apple is excellent!!!! MACS are great...full stop!!!
  25. Isnt there a Sikh organisation in the states that deals with discrimination? I cant remember their name but they are really involved in discrimination against Sikhs in the states and worldwide I think...SALDEF? Also its stupid because names such as Jones and Smith (in the UK anyway) are very common so if they are worried about the surname issue they should have a wider list of names to alter before being allowed stay. What about Ali? And Patel... Damned stupid if you ask me
