  1. Many gurmukhs have also talked/written about a real hell after death.
  2. Some really good replies. I think more amritdhari singhs/singhnia should also contribute and try to answer some of the questions/concerns raised in some of the posts. From the general tone of replies it seems like some are not "ready" or there are "obstacles" in their life that is stopping them from taking amrit. Bhai Sahib says, charan saran gur ek painda jae chal|, we walk and are walking but I think we get stuck along the way and these obstacles are like boulders and it become hard for us to overcome them and eventually we get stuck behind a wall and are unable to move forward. I've known some people on this forum that have been posting and learning/sharing for YEARS almost since the beginning and they still haven't taken that step onto the path. Someone once told me taking amrit is like getting registered in school, we can come into class, read, study, etc. but we'll never get tested because we haven't registered yet and we can't progress and eventually graduate because we haven't accepted the pritham rehat put forth by our father (pritham rehat yeh jaan khande kee pahul chakke|) Every situation is personal and different but according to gurbani and pooran satguru we must ALWAYS evaluate ourselves on this path, and question ourselves as to why we haven't taken that first step in improving our jeevan, what are we waiting for? We should be reading/listening and trying to understand the bani of Guru Sahib from Guru Nanak Sahib who dispelled this darkness and brought forth Sikhi to the later Gurus who taught of love, simran, service, sacrifice, to Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee and his emphasis on shedding this temporary world for something greater, and why our father Guru Gobind Singh jee solidified that greater thing into Amrit. Why? Our Gurus have laid the steps for us, they've created for us the staircase to heaven we just have to walk on it with love and dedication. We have to realize that maya is putting these thoughts and obstacles in our minds so we don't get to follow and lead this way of life, eh maya mohni jin et bharam bhulaya| Once we realize that we will beg for amrit and can't wait an instant for amrit. Personally, I barely had any kes when I first took amrit, I wasn't fully prepared, many aren't but if you take just that ONE step towards him you receive so much more in return that I can't even begin to express. So to not carry on any longer, one thing I would suggest is evaluate what is greater to you in your life is it love for your guru or something else? Beginning of this article touches on some good points too: http://naam-jor.blogspot.com/ Bhul chuk muaaf karnee.
  3. Please explain how its useless? Maybe someone is not taking amrit because of their parents, or maybe they're involved in a relationship with someone and doesn't know how to get out, or maybe they're handicapped, maybe they were refused amrit, maybe they don't know how to prepare, maybe they can't get to an amrit sanchar, or maybe there isn't one being organized in the area. I'm not sure how long you've been on SS, but alot of youth have alot of issues in regards to this, so I'm sorry if you find this question useless but unlike you many have been asking this question to themselves, and by addressing the issue the sangat can maybe help those few individuals and give them that extra push towards amrit, and if you find this or any initiative for motivating others to take amrit useless you haven't understood amrit in the first place. Bhul chuk muaf.
  4. I think Japji Sahib? ...aee panthi sagal jamaati..?
  5. Is it really because Guru Sahib hasn't chosen you or you haven't chosen Guru Sahib yet to be your everything? (tan man kaat kaat sabh arpee..) The "obstacles" are probably due to your own hesitance of taking it, if you hesitate you can't follow this path, you have to jump the cliff and hope that he will catch you.
  6. VJKK VJKF For all who haven't taken amrit yet, why don't you take amrit? What's stopping you or holding you back? VJKK VJKF

    Anand Karaj, Women

Yea do it at your wedding first before you try to go and change it for everyone. Its easier said than done, and I'm sure the granthi or someone will stick their foot in and object to it so good luck.

    Anand Karaj, Women

Remember, the laavaa were written by Guru Ramdaas jee, and the custom was/is that woman walks behind man, its not about being sexist or guru sahib doesn't consider them equal its just customary, who are we to change it? Both wearing bana holding sri sahibs, some like it that way some don't so thats personal choice, but the method of doing lava shouldn't be changed.
  10. Guru Arjun Dev jee has sung this: ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁਮਹਲਾ੫॥ Bilāval mehlā 5. Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl: ਸਾਂਤਿਪਾਈਗੁਰਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਿਪੂਰੇ॥ Sāʼnṯ pāī gur saṯgur pūrė. The Guru, the Perfect True Guru, has blessed me with peace and tranquility. ਸੁਖਉਪਜੇਬਾਜੇਅਨਹਦਤੂਰੇ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥ Sukẖ upjė bājė anhaḏ ṯūrė. ||1|| rahāo. Peace and joy have welled up, and the mystical trumpets of the unstruck sound current vibrate. ||1||Pause|| ਤਾਪਪਾਪਸੰਤਾਪਬਿਨਾਸੇ॥ Ŧāp pāp sanṯāp bināsė. Sufferings, sins and afflictions have been dispelled. ਹਰਿਸਿਮਰਤਕਿਲਵਿਖਸਭਿਨਾਸੇ॥੧॥ Har simraṯ kilvikẖ sabẖ nāsė. ||1|| Remembering the Lord in meditation, all sinful mistakes have been erased. ||1|| ਅਨਦੁਕਰਹੁਮਿਲਿਸੁੰਦਰਨਾਰੀ॥ Anaḏ karahu mil sunḏar nārī. Joining together, O beautiful soul-brides, celebrate and make merry. ਗੁਰਿਨਾਨਕਿਮੇਰੀਪੈਜਸਵਾਰੀ॥੨॥੩॥੨੧॥ Gur Nānak mėrī paij savārī. ||2||3||21|| Guru Nanak has saved my honor. ||2||3||21|| To be a beautiful bride of Vaaheguroo Jee - easy to say hard to do! To be a beautiful bride of Vaaheguroo Jee means one has to prepare the couch for the Khasam (Husband) to sit on. The couch of the mind has to become pure and true by doing naam simran. None of the 5 thieves reside there anymore 'Sach Khand vasai Nirankar' : Guru Nanak Dev jee says -In the realm of Truth (Sach Khand) resides the Formless One. A Gianee at the Gurdwara explained that when your mind becomes Sach Khand then that is when Nirankar will reside their. And always remember: The truth is the truth is the truth : Vaaheguroo Jee is true, Satguru jee is true, the 5 thieves steal your whole life away, but 'Khalsa soi jo kare nit jang' Bhai Nand Lal Jee says 'the Khalsa is the one who daily fights (against these 5 enemies)'
  11. Kookaji, SikhSangat doesn't support the views of anyone who does not beleive in the fundamentals of Sikhi, no matter how much they claim themselves to be a Sikh. Naamdharis beleive in dehdhari gurus therefore they are excommunicated from the panth. We will allow you to discuss Sikhi but if you post about the authenticity of Guru Sahib we will have to put you under moderation.
  12. I don't think you have understood guru sahib fully yet. bhaant bhaant pacchat pakvaanaa upjat rog deh tin nana|
  13. Definetely not the right way to propagate sikhi. Do you have a link of the video or the name of the song? Maybe someone can talk to them about this.
  14. I researched for a while before getting the HTC Touch a few months ago, know alot of singhs that have one. I didn't come across the diamond that techno singh posted, but it looks really good only thing with that is it doesn't have as large a screen as the touch. I find the touch is pretty useful in day-to-day things, the primary reasons I got it was because it was all-in-one (mp3player, camera, recorder, etc.) I've installed alot of custom apps on it like googlemaps, etc. so if I want to look up an address for a keertan program I can just type in the address and get directions to it, OR if I'm lost (which happened a few times) I just put in my exact location and where I want to get to it shows me step by step directions, and you can just put in the postal code if you have it which works the fastest. Another major reason was the mp3 player and sikhitothemax, its got a HUGE speaker on the back and sometimes when I'm driving I just turn it to full volume and listen while I drive and not even listen to my car stereo, I've never really had to use headphones with it. SikhiToTheMax also works good on it, I can view gurmukhi of the shabads or with english translations which helps when there's no STTM screen at the gurdwara sahib and I don't know what the shabd is saying. You can record audio on it, I've never used that so can't comment on it much. It also tells you your weather forecast for today and the next few days, so far its been pretty accurate, and it updates everytime you click on it to the current time. I got a unlimited data plan for $7 so I can also browse the internet and launch youtube, etc. from it. So far to my understanding its only competition is the iPhone, which lacks the use of STTM on it since its not a windows mobile device. The only thing I wish was the battery would last longer, but for the last few months that I've used it I can say I'm pretty impressed and even if you don't talk on the phone much you can use it for ALOT of other things.
  15. "man i wish i could go to a smagam in india. so i wanted to actually talk about this pic...i didnt get to do it when i uploaded it because i had to get off. anyways....so i just absolutely love this photo. there so much love in these Gursikhs! a wish that i have and many of you guys must too....is that one day the whole Khalsa can be like this....totally unified....with less arguing over useless things and more love and respect for one another.......these divisions, that come from our minds really, are only going to lead to devastating pain for the entire Khalsa.....which really scares me...sorry for being so pessimistic about it....but i dont believe im the only one who has had this thought. ....i should get out of gloomy talk and back to the pic. so wow.....beautiful huh...i love that this is in the kitchen...and these Singhs must have been doing seva...or about to do seva. =) http://www.flickr.com/photos/bhinneerainurreeai/2488457210/
  16. ahhhh, shardaaee! Singhs here use to make it all the time, it takes alot of effort so be prepared to sweat Nothing better than drinking a cold glass of shardaaee.
  17. Proper maryada must be followed when taking maharaj saroop anywhere (no trace of alchohol/drugs/meat should be present, and the place must be cleaned thoroughly) and the reasons of taking maharaj saroop anywhere MUST BE for a sikhi related event not for a wedding, seeking guidance or other personal reasons, for personal issues/requests you must goto the gurdwara sahib.
  18. I don't speak for the rest of the sevadars but for myself. Birha veerjee/bhainjee, you just joined this forum today and this is your first post which happens to be in this topic, which makes me very sceptical, maybe you couldn't post with your real ID so you created a new one, I apologize if I'm incorrect. The meat debate is never-ending, we have experienced this from the time the forum started in 2001 its the same pro arguments and many new and different anti-arguments like its side effects, scientific discovery, etc. There are several aspects of Sri Akaal Takht Sahib maryada that conflicts with the maryada some sevadars of SikhSangat.com beleive in, it doesn't mean they don't want to help build this site and make it grow in the right direction. SikhSangat.com is an independant website, we as sevadars don't follow Akaal Takht and/or SGPC maryada word for word. Akaal Takht Sahib has not taken a solid stance and/or issued a hukamnama that meat is ok and/or against meat, but we as sevadars of the site have according to popular beleif of mostly all of the members of the site who don't eat meat therefore it wasn't such a hard decision, there maybe some who may protest this decision, either 1) They eat meat themselves and 2) They don't like the management and want to stir up controversy, but that's been happening and it really has no effect on the decision. Not spending any more time discussing the decision I just want to say that we should all strive to learn and understand gurbani at a deeper level by ourselves and by other mahapurkhs who preached the same regarding this topic, bhul chuk muaaf.
  19. Everynight at the gurdwara when SukhAsan takes place and Guru Granth Sahib jee is respectfully carried on the head of a beloved GurMukh, the rest of the GurMukh pyarios' sing : ਜਿਥੈਜਾਇਬਹੈਮੇਰਾਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਸੋਥਾਨੁਸੁਹਾਵਾਰਾਮਰਾਜੇ॥ Jithai jāė bahai mėrā saṯgurū so thān suhāvā rām rājė. Wherever my True Guru goes and sits, that place is beautiful, O Lord King. The dhol is being beaten, the shaneh (bells and symbols) are chiming, a group of ten children are at the front, the rest of the Sangat follow behind as Guru Sahib goes to the Peace (Sukh) position (Asan) upstairs on the bed. It feels like Guru Gobind Singh jee himself is riding majestically by and the Sangat bow, applying the dust of His feet to their forehead ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਸੋਥਾਨੁਭਾਲਿਆਲੈਧੂਰਿਮੁਖਿਲਾਵਾ॥ Gusikẖīʼn so thān bẖāliā lai ḏẖūr mukẖ lāvā. The Guru's Sikhs seek out that place; they take the dust and apply it to their faces. Like when a luxorious ocean liner cuts through the calm sea under the summer sun and all the little boats marvel at its splendour as he sails by. Then they feel the ripples of waves from the Ocean liner and follow in his wake. Singing Wonderful Wondeful Wondeful Waheguru as all the blessings washover them. ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਕੀਘਾਲਥਾਇਪਈਜਿਨਹਰਿਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਵਾ॥ Gursikẖā kī gẖāl thāė paī jin har nām ḏẖiāvā. The works of the Guru's Sikhs, who meditate on the Lord's Name, are approved. The GurMukhs sing the glories of the SatGuru and God causes the world to sing the glories of the GurMukh. ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਨਾਨਕੁਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਪੂਜਿਆਤਿਨਹਰਿਪੂਜਕਰਾਵਾ॥੨॥ Jinĥ Nānak saṯgur pūjiā ṯin har pūj karāvā. ||2|| Those who worship the True Guru, O Nanak - the Lord causes them to be worshipped in turn. ||2|| Dhann Dhann Guru Raam Daas Jee Sant Attar Singh ji used to lie flat as stick (danda-aut) infront of Guru Granth Sahib jee for hours on end just to pass all the blessings and respect people had given him back to Guru Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh jee said 'nothing pleases me more than people serving the Khalsa.' Wherever Guru jee used to go to eat, he made sure the punj pyare got served before he did. (This tradition continues when Prashad is distributed first to representatives of the punj pyaare i.e. 5 Khalsa then to the Granthee and then to the Sangat.)
