WJKK WJKF As Tera said above, for what you have stated to use the laptop for, you can easily pick up a laptop that will be sufficient for £400 which I believe is approximately $800. XPS laptops are great if you need such high spec (multimedia students) however if its mainly word processing etc then an XPS will just be wasted as you wont use majority of the cpu or ram. I payed £399 for a Toshiba Satellite L300 with a Pentium Dual Core 1.7ghz single core (3.4gh) 2Gb Ram and 120gb HDD (intergrated gfx). Its a triple boot with Vista Ultimate, XP Professional and Ubuntu 8.04. I use it for work and college and use photoshop on here. Never given me a problem. As for Vista, i still advise clients to install XP. Vista uses alot of the CPU and RAM unneccesarily. With XP you still have stability, security and the networking is great. On some XP Releases you will find that CTRL ALT and DELETE will bring up a screen that askes to lock windows, change password, open task manager etc. If you dont want to go through that all the time, theres two options: 1) Right click on the task bar (in an empty area) and you will see "Task Manager" 2) Press CTRL + Shift + ESC WJKK WJKF

WJKK WJKF Some advice, do not install Norton AV. This program is a waste of disk space and memory usage. It will slow your computer down alot. AVG Free Edition will suffice. It does everything you need it to do. There is no need to install Norton, Mcafee, Nod32 etc. I personally use AVG Free Edition 8.0.1, CCleaner and Spybot Search and Destroy. I have never had a problem with my machine and it is as fast as when first built. All these softwares are free. With AVG, i find i dont really need a firewall and leave windows firewall activated. WJKK WJKF AVG is a free and simple AV to use. It is by far one of the best AVs on the market. I work as a IT Consultant/Engineer and use AVG on all client machines. To remove the Win32 Trojan, id advise booting into Safe Mode (Tap F8 whilst booting, you will see a boot screen with different options, select Safe Mode) Once in, run the scan. Also, when installing AVG make sure you uncheck the box that asks to run automatic scan everyday, this just makes your computer slower. AVG is alot smaller compared to other AVs therefore meaning you will find your computer alot faster. WJKK WJKF

WJKK WJKF Purchase a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable and connect one end to your cassette player and the other end to the microphone port on the computer. Then download Audacity. Press play on the cassette player and press record on the software. BTW. I have found that cables with gold tips give better clarity rather than silver tips. I connected my iPod to my car with this 3.5mm jack and have found a big difference with the type of tips. WJKK WJKF

Is it saying that your copy of windows is not genuine? If so, you wont be able to update your machine so it would be best to get it activated. I have software that can validate the copy of windows if you require. WJKK WJKF
