  1. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! What's better for Sikhi apps (Gurbani etc) - symbian or android?
  2. You have to keep faith in Guru Ji, you'll get there. Are you Amritdhari? Anyway, listening to the links below should give you some encouragement and guidance: Simran guide
  3. Nothing wrong going on, even if it's not my cup of tea. Some of you guys would scare away anyone who wanted to know about Sikhi. Also, as one Singh mentioned above, those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.... Sometimes whether we see something as good or bad is more a reflection of our own inner state than reality. Whether or not something is 'acceptable' is also usually a personal view - many of us would find very high speed, loud, almost violent kirtan or simran unacceptable etc. Naanak Sathigur Bhaettiai Pooree Hovai Jugath || O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, one comes to know the Perfect Way. Hasandhiaa Khaelandhiaa Painandhiaa Khaavandhiaa Vichae Hovai Mukath ||2|| While laughing, playing, dressing and eating, he is liberated. ||2||
  4. Thanks Singh, please keep up ALL your translation sewa! It's very useful.
  5. Amritvela is the last 'pehr' of the night, not the first. The tuk in question: ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਫੁਲੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਭੀ ਪਛਾ ਰਾਤਿ ॥ ਜੋ ਜਾਗੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਲਹੰਨਿ ਸੇ ਸਾਈ ਕੰਨੋ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੧੧੨॥ Pahilai pahrai fulṛā fal bẖī pacẖẖā rāṯ. Jo jāgaʼnniĥ lahann se sā▫ī kanno ḏāṯ. ||112|| The first watch of the night brings flowers, and the later watches of the night bring fruit. Those who remain awake and aware, receive the gifts from the Lord. ||112|| Just take it literally, fruits are more valuable than flowers, so bandgi at Amritvela (pachha rat) is more productive. On www.srigranth.org, you can read the interpretation in Prof Sahib Singh's and the Fareedkot's teeka. @savagekhalsa: read the previous Ang as well.

    Brown Nosers

Just be honest and be yourselves. Maybe sit with your brother and have a word, then sit the wives down and tell them to behave.
  7. Nothing similar on that Ang. Do you mean Ang 75? There, the night has been divided into 4 quarters (pehrs). Guru Ji uses these metaphorically to describe our lives from youth- adult- middle aged - old.
  8. Post the Gurmukhi, it sounds like a bad translation.
  9. It's got nothing to do with loving human beings. The Buddha Dal Maryada and all other Sampardaic and even the new SGPC Maryadas state that Sikhs should only marry Sikhs. Puratan texts specifically mention that marital relations with Muslims are taboo. There's nothing to discuss really.
  10. What a load of bs. You call others illiterate? Anyway, this topic's run its course.
  11. Bhai Sahib, have you read Chaubis Avtaar by Guru Gobind Singh Ji? It will clear all your misconceptions.
  12. Veer Ji, Where did you get that information in points 1 and 2 from?
  13. These days, some have Nishan Sahibs, and even golaks. It was actually forbidden to matha tek money at Nanaksar Taaths - the ones being run by Baba Gurdev Singh Ji still don't have a golak.
  14. This is an idiotic topic. Do you want Singhs to stop wearing dastaars because some Muslims, some Orthodox Christians, the Bobo Ashanti, touaregs etc also wear dastars? The patka is not a Muslim dress, the burkha, hijab, niqab etc are. In many cultures where they keep their head covered, you'll find stuff resembling patkas, dastaars etc. There's only so many ways you can cover your head. The chunni is even more widespread.
  15. Originally, Nakasar Tahts were temporary structures that were erected on reaching a site and demolished when the jatha moved on to do parchar somewhere else. A 'taht' is a place to do bhagti only, not really a Gurudwara. The Singhs doing seva there were not paid, they ate if someone brought food or would continue with their bhagti and parchar. They do have Khandas displayed, but not Nishaan Sahibs.
  16. In Sri Dasam Granth, Guru Ji explains that Krishna is born and dies and there have been many Krishnas since time began. So, no, he isn't worshipped. His good qualities are praised however. In fact, In Chaubis Avtaar, Guru Ji makes it quite clear why we don't worship Krishna. You have to place the above Shabad in context - best listen to Katha from Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji (on www.gurmatveechar.com) where they explain the shabad in depth.
  17. Thanks SIngh! Think 'Dvaish' means duality, or having doubts. Keep up the Seva now! :waheguru:

All you need is the right Sangat. Pray for it, you'll find it.
  19. This blog is amazing! The only source for Sri Nanak Parkash in English. At a time when most books on Sikh history in English are written with a missionary style interpretation of our history, it is tryuly invaluable. Hope it is saved somewhere safe to be made a proper book one day.
  20. I understand where you're coming from. I've met 'Amritdharis' who don't do Nitnem let alone anything else. Parents sometimes hide the true facts as well. Very hard to ask this question tactfully... think about it in advance, otherwise you could come across as arrogant or rude etc.
