  7. Planet Khanda Life on planet Khanda is wonderful. There are plenty of beautiful places to visit. There is plenty of beautiful music to be heard. And plenty of songs to be sung. There is no death, people live forever. And the best thing is that people don’t have to work - well, actually let me take that back - they have to work but only for five weeks of their lives. Let me explain... When a person is born, that person is raised by the family until the person is mature enough to work. At that point, the person is sent to work for only five weeks. Well, work is not your 9 to 5 kind of deal; rather, the person is left on a beach which has many shells, huge dunes of sand and many, many hidden diamonds amongst the shells and the sand. All the person has to do is collect as many diamonds as possible. The hard part is that many of the shells glitter just like diamonds. But with a little knowledge, they can be told apart quite easily. Needless to say, the person’s life after the five weeks depends entirely on the amount of diamonds that person has collected during the “work” period. With the diamonds, the person can buy all kinds of good things and live very, very happily ever after. The wise people don’t even sleep during those five weeks. They just collect all the diamonds they can get. But then there are some whose performance, shall we say, is not up to par. Some of these people become lazy and don’t go to the beach for many days. Then there are others who don’t go for an entire week. And some don’t show up at all! There are others also, who go once in while, but just fill their pockets with shells and sands. ------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------- pyareoooo gursikho, vaheguroo jee kaa khalsa vaheguroo jee kee fateh This story is our story. Yes, yours and mine. When our soul is mature - ie conscious enough, we are sent as humans to dharam khand. Our main work here is to collect naam diamonds. Yes, there are many glittering shells: fancy cars, expensive dresses, flaky stories like this one, hot debates about what naam really is, witty discussions about existence itself. And many dunes of sand: lust, anger, greed, attachment, ego. But with a little gurbaNi reflection, we can easily tell a diamond apart from a shell. But despite knowing all this, what do we do? We goof off! We don’t just goof off; we goof off big time!!! Each moment without naam is like an hour without work on planet Khanda. Each amrit vela that we spend without naam and in sleep is like a week without work on plant Khanda. The most amazing thing is that we will read this story, some of us will get moved by it. But come tommorrow amrit vela, we will hit that snooze button and drift off once again into dream land. My pyari, pyari sakhio, lets *** WAKE *** up. Not when we are 60 or 70 but NOW. Start naam simran tonight. Don’t wait for tommorrow - it might or might not come. Pyare, let’s not waste our precious moments on shells, lets get rich!!!!!!!!! *vaheguroo*vaheguroo*vaheguroo*vaheguroo*vaheguroo*vaheguroo*vaheguroo*vaheguroo *vaheguroo vaheguroo*vaheguroo*vaheguroo .....

  11. A beautiful tale thats shows us how we should think of Our Creator... Small Wooden People The Wemmicks were small wooden people. Each of the wooden people was carved by a woodworker named Eli. His workshop sat on a hill overlooking their village. Every Wemmick was different. Some had big noses, others had large eyes. Some were tall and others were short. Some wore hats, others wore coats. But all were made by the same carver and all lived in the village. And all day, every day, the Wemmicks did the same thing: They gave each other stickers. Each Wemmick had a box of golden star stickers and a box of gray dot stickers. Up and down the streets all over the city, people could be seen sticking stars or dots on one another. The pretty ones, those with smooth wood and fine paint, always got stars. But if the wood was rough or the paint chipped, the Wemmicks gave dots. The talented ones got stars, too... Some could lift big sticks high above their heads or jump over tall boxes. Still others knew big words or could sing very pretty songs. Everyone have them stars. Some Wemmicks had stars all over them! Every time they got a star it made them feel so good that they did something else and got another star. Others though, could do little. They got dots. Punchinello was one of these. He tried to jump high like the others, but he always fell. And when he fell, the others would gather around and give him dots. Sometimes when he fell, it would scar his wood, so the people would give him more dots. He would try to explain why he fell and say something silly, and the Wemmicks would give him more dots. After a while he had so many dots that he di dn't want to go outside. He was afraid he would do something dumb such as forget his hat or step in the water, and then people would give him another dot. In fact, he had so many gray dots that some people would come up and give him one without reason. "He deserves lots of dots," the wooden people would agree with one another. "He's not a good wooden person." After a while Punchinello believed them. "I'm not a good Wemmick," he would say. The few times he went outside, he hung around other Wemmicks who had a lot of dots. He felt better around them. One day he met a Wemmick who was unlike any he'd ever met. She had no dots or stars. She was just wooden. Her name was Lulia. It wasn't that people didn't try to give her stickers; it's just that the stickers didn't stick. Some admired Lulia for having no dots, so they would run up and give her a star. But it would fall off. Some would look down on her for having no stars, so they would give her a dot. But it wouldn't stay either. "That's the way I want to be," thought Punchinello. "I don't want anyone's marks." So he asked the stickerless Wemmick how she did it. "It's easy," Lulia replied, "everyday I go to see Eli." "Eli?" "Yes, Eli. The woodcarver. I sit in the workshop with him." "Why?" "Why don't you find out for yourself? Go up the hill. He's there." And with that the Wemmick with no marks turned and skippedaway. "But he won't want to see me!" Punchinello cried out. Lulia didn't hear. So Punchinello went home. He sat near a window and watched the wooden people as they scurried around giving each other stars and dots. "It's not right," he muttered to himself. And he resolved to go see Eli. He walked up the narrow path to the top of the hill and stepped into the big shop. His wooden eyes widened at the size of everything. The stool was as tall as he was. He had to stretch on his tiptoes to see the top of the workbench. A hammer was as long as his arm. Punchinello swallowed hard. "I'm not staying here!" and he turned to leave. Then he heard his name. "Punchinello?" The voice was deep and strong. Punchinello stopped. "Punchinello! How good to see you. Come and let me have a look at you." Punchinello turned slowly and looked at the large bearded craftsman. "You know my name?" the little Wemmick asked. "Of course I do. I made you." Eli stooped down and picked him up and set him on the bench. "Hmm," the maker spoke thoughtfully as he inspected the gray circles. "Looks like you've been given some bad marks." "I didn't mean to, Eli. I really tried hard." "Oh, you don't have to defend yourself to me, child. I don't care what the other Wemmicks think." "You don't?" "No, and you shouldn't either. Who are they to give stars and dots? They're Wemmicks just like you. What they think doesn'tmatter, Punchinello. All that matters is what I think. And I think you are pretty special." Punchinello laughed. "Me, special? Why? I can't walk fast. I can't jump. My paint is peeling. Why do I matter to you?" Eli looked at Punchinello, put his hands on those small wooden shoulders, and spoke very slowly. "Because you're mine. That's why you matter to me." Punchinello had never had anyone look at him like this--much less his maker. He didn't know what to say. "Everyday I've been hoping you'd come," Eli explained. "I came because I met someone who had no marks." "I know. She told me about you." "Why don't the stickers stay on her?" "Because she has decided that what I think is more important than what they think. The stickers only stick if you let them." "What?" "The stickers only stick if they matter to you. The more you trust my love, the less you care about the stickers." "I'm not sure I understand ." "You will, but it will take time. You've got a lot of marks. For now, just come to see me every day and let me remind you how much I care." Eli lifted Punchinello off the bench and set him on the ground. "Remember," Eli said as the Wemmick walked out the door. "You are special because I made you. And I don't make mistakes." Punchinello didn't stop, but in his heart he thought, "I think he really means it." And when he did, a dot fell to the ground. --by Max Lucado From the book, "Tell Me the Secrets" *Vaheguroo*Vaheguroo*Vaheguroo*Vaheguroo*Vaheguroo*Vaheguroo*Vaheguroo...

  15. Tiny Drops It is a full moon's night. Everything seems to be glazed with a beautiful silvery color. A cool breeze is making the trees and the shrubs sing with joy. There is a lake nearby. It too seems to be blissfully enjoying this tranquil moment. A water vessel filled with water lies on the shore. It looks like someone forgot to take it home after washing clothes in it. The moon's reflection can be seen in the cool lake water. The water in the vessel is also from the lake; yet it does not reflect the moon. This is because the water is dirty. Suddenly, as if by magic, clouds begin to form. And soon, tiny droplets of rain freshen everything up. The rain droplets fall into the vessel too. Each droplet replaces some dirty water with clean and heavenly water from the sky. Soon, the water in the vessel is pure. Now the moon can be clearly seen in it. Moral : Pyare gursikhooo, the vessel is us. Although we are made from Vaheguroo, yet we fail to reflect Vaheguroo's essence. But, as if by magic, Vaheguroo gives us sangat. With sangat, rain droplets of Naam begin to replace our impure qualities with pure and heavenly gurmat. Soon we are clean and we reflect Vaheguroo...

  17. At one time, a young child went to a Sikh Saint, and stated that no, matter how hard he tried to keep Gurbani in his heart, he just could not understand or keep it. He stated that his mind was not a bucket, but a strainer, which let everything pass through and did not contain the meaning of gurbani. The saint said "let us try an experiment. Here is a strainer, and here is some water, and pour a bucket of water through the strainer. " The child did this and said " see the water was not contained, it just passed through, my mind is just like this". The saint said. " Do it once more" , he did, and still the water passed through the strainer. The saint said. " Do it ten times at least". The child did, and at the end of this experiment, he said " See water still passes through, no matter how many times , and how many buckets we pass through it" . The saint said. " Look carefully at the strainer and see if there is any thing different." The child did, and his eyes were filled with tears, and he said. "Yes, I see the difference now, the grimy dirty strainer is now shiny and bright, like never before. The saint said. " My son, this is what Gurbani does for you, it cleans your mind, and even if you do not realize it, it slowly cleanses your mind, and protects you from the five vices. The more you recite Gu rbani, your mind will not only become shinier, but become like the bucket itself, which will not only become clean , but hold the meaning of Gurbani in your heart" The child smiled, and felt he had received the best example of the power of Gurbani, ever. My friends, we are no different than the child, as long as we try to recite Gurbani, and understand the meaning, we too will find strength and control to overcome the five vices, which are ruin of every one. 20. Vaheguroo jee kaa Khalsa Vaheguroo jee kee Fateh!! Yeh the calling idea really works!! I also have another suggestion, after ishnaan, just before you are about to turn off the shower, blast COLD water on yourself, only for like 30 sec to 1 min, trust me, it works, because not only it wakes you up but it also boosts the blood circulation around your body.... try it... Vaheguroo jee kaa Khalsa Vaheguroo jee kee Fateh!!!
  21. Vaheguroo jee kaa Khalsa Vaheguroo jee kee Fateh!! I have a couple of suggestions to get you in the routine for getting up..you could always tell your parents to wake you up, and believe me, that works for mee! :umm: Or you could get a friend to call you at Amritvela and tell them to wake you up, that way you could motivate each other and like then get them to ring 5/10 mins after to make sure that your awake!! hehe, that works too... Just my 2 cents... Vaheguroo jee kaa Khalsa Vaheguroo jee kee Fatehh!
