  1. http://hindustantimes.com/news/181_991637,...ench~Sikhs' India can hardly help French Sikhs, says minority panel chief Indo-Asian News Service New Delhi, September 6 India can do little to come to the aid of Sikh students in France who have been subjected to a curb on wearing turbans at schools, regrets National Commission for Minorities chairman Tarlochan Singh. His comments came in the wake of France implementing a new law from September 1 that bans display of religious symbols in public-funded schools, despite India's earlier appeal to exempt Sikh children from its purview. "The Sikhs have vowed to organise protests, but I am afraid it will not have any impact," Tarlochan Singh told IANS. "There are barely 10,000 Sikhs in France and only a few hundred Sikh children are attending schools," pointed out Singh to drive home his point.
  2. As dictators go, you're kind of pathetic! Instead of military coup or systematic persecution to get power, you just happen to be the head of the only party in the UK that isn't totally worthless! While not very impressive it is none the less effective! You can do whatever the hell you like without any chance of getting voted out of office! People know that the only alternative would have them eating their children if they ever got back into power! However, you still think that you are as loved as you were when you were first elected into power… News flash for you: You're not! What tin-pot dictator are you? 4. Note : Shikhandi was a character in the Mahabharat who was a eunuch (neither male nor female). Calling Mr Manmohan Singh as "Sikhandi" may imply that he isn't man enough to control Indian politics and the remote control is in Sonia Gandhi's hands. http://headlines.sify.com/news/fullstory.p...M~sikhandi' No apology for calling PM Sikhandi: Yashwant Monday, 06 September , 2004, 16:12 Kolkata: Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha today said there was no question of his tendering an apology for describing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as "Sikhandi", asserting that he was only speaking the truth. "Why should I apologise? I had to speak the truth. There is no question of any apology," Sinha, a former minister in the Vajpayee Cabinet, told newsmen when asked if he would tender an apology as demanded by the Congress. To support his point, Sinha displayed the clipping of a Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee advertisement which contained allegations against Uma Bharati and photographs of Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders. "When the ad was published, did the Prime Minister say he was not a party to it? We did not issue the ad, the KPCC did. All the allegations in it were lies and set aside by the Hubli court. After this, the Prime Minister should have dissociated himself from the ad," he said. When told that the Congress had sought his explanation for call ing Manmohan Singh a puppet Prime Minister, he said, "If they want an explanation for speaking the truth, I have nothing to say. The UPA presently had four power centres, the major ones being AICC president Sonia Gandhi, (RJD chief) Lalu Prasad and the Left parties. Whatever power is left remains with the Prime Minister."
  5. Don't forget you were the one who made me keep my hair and beard! Yes it was Gurujee's grace, and He sent you as a messenger to wake me up! All my life I saw loads of chardi kala Sikhs, but my mind always said "oh well they are born into Sikh families". But when I came across you, and saw that you too being from a Hindu family were keeping hair/beard, it took me by storm. I can't wait for the day you take Amrit, and hope it comes sooner that any of us can imagine!

  7. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Saadh sangat jee, I tried to find some info on the white refined beet sugar and the brown unrefined cane sugar. This is what I got. Please take some time to read it and let me know what you think. Thanks! I have been using brown cane sugar of Great Value for like 2 n half months now because I was told that the white one is passed through animal bone charcoal. However, many Singhs I came across don't make a big deal out of it, so I guess I am gonna try to take it easy as well. At the same time, I wanna know the sangat's input on this matter as I don't understand any major difference between the white beet sugar and the brown cane sugar. What do you say ? Thanks a lot for reading! Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

  10. Exactly !!!! There are suckers who want you to lose your temper, and remember, when you get angry, thats when you make them think that they've won! So keep cool, smile, and explain in a gentle but serious tone. They will listen and eventually shut up, and don't be surprised if they appreciate you, the same people who were mocking you a couple of minutes back!

  14. why would u still have doubts about this? Because veerjee I don't know if its proper to say that a great GurSikh like Bhai Mani Singh Jee separated the words in SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JEE. I don't know if he did or didn't, so I don't know what to believe. Plus all this conclusion that he was cut joint by joint because he separated the words belittles his martyrdom and makes it look like more of a "punishment" which I find weird. But thats just me. Like I said, I don't know the true facts about all this.
  15. http://www.keralanext.com/news/?id=46324 India News: 'Mughals blundered by massacring Sikh Gurus' 2-September-2004 New Delhi, A Muslim cleric said Thursday that the community shared a close relationship with the Sikhs, but the bond had been clouded by the historical blunders committed by Mughal emperors. Referring to the massacre of Sikh gurus by the Mughal emperors, Imam Maulana Moazzam Ahmed of the Fatehpuri mosque in old Delhi said: "They (emperors) were Muslims only by name but their acts were not in tune with the Islamic philosophy." The fifth Guru Arjan Dev was killed by the men of Mughal emperor Jehangir for supporting a rebellion by his son, while the ninth Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded by emperor Aurangzeb for failing to perform a miracle in his court. "But Sikhs and Muslims have always shared a close relationship," Ahmed told an all-faith meeting here to celebrate the fourth centenary celebrations of the Sikh holy book, Guru Granth Sahib.

  21. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2004/20040902/...2/punjab1.htm#6 Tibetan family converts to Sikhism Our Correspondent Phagwara, September 1 When children of several Sikh families are falling victims to apostasy (patitpuna) in this hi-tech age, bitten by the fashion bug, a tribal Tibetan family of Arunachal Pradesh has converted to Sikhism after being bowled over by spiritually elevating gurbani kirtan they had heard at the Golden Temple. In a conversation with this correspondent here today, the tribal family said that it was on a padyatra to various religious places of the country. This family of five members (now six) had started from Arunachal Pradesh 15 months ago. It had covered one dozen states traversing about 5,000 km on foot so far. So much so that a child was born to the young daughter, Maya, at Mallian village near Amritsar and the boy was christened as Rahi Singh (one born on way). The villagers had greatly helped the family during the delivery of the child and housed it in the village for some days. It was about six months ago when they were on their way to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. Besides Mr Phalamtok Kama and his daughter, Maya, Mr Kama’s young sons, Alchai, Thaisiag and son-in-law, Khihan, are also in the group. They had not heard about the quadricentennial celebrations of Guru Granth Sahib nor did they know anything about Sikhism when they had started from their home 15 months ago. However, the soothing and comforting gurbani kirtan mesmerised them and they instantly decided to turn Sikhs by tying the hair knots on their heads. The male members added the suffix Singh to their names while the lone teenager girl added Kaur to her name. They were honoured here today by Mr Iqbal Singh Kundi, vice-president, nagar council, Phagwara, and president of the Guru Nanak Mission Welfare Society. He also presented them articles of daily use. The family is now on its way back to Arunachal Pradesh but has pledged to come back to Punjab. They are wonderstruck by its spirituality and the hospitality of the people here.
