  1. Exactly. This man wants to modify sikhism on western lines. He thinks sikhi of Guru sahib should be moulded per western life style. He supports kala afghana and Darshan lal ragi. I dont doubt that. I have seen it in his writings for myself. The writings still have value though, they are better than most authors in India. The point I really like is that he says there should be a new Sikh Reformation to cleanse it off the caste, and other stuff that prevents sikhs from growing.
  2. I understand the Shabad, but I think you are taking it literally. Dancing could refer to foolish actions. I may be wrong, but Bani is many times is metaphorical.I went back and read through the Shabad Bani. It seems to be pointing out the dancing of Hindu Ritual Dancing is meaningless in the worship of God. One of Guru Nanak's key beliefs is criticism of empty rituals; I feel he does this in this Shabad. Trust me I am with on Bhangra, its screwed hella kids in the community. Its synonymous with alcohol and partying in California.
  3. When I first started learning about Sikh history I use to respect Khushwant Singh and his writings. The more I read and learned, it made me realize he has a hidden agenda. The man is not even a Sikh, his classifies his son has a Mullah or some <banned word filter activated>. He is only Sikh for the image, and all. I have strong doubts about his intentions and writings, but many Sikh orgs unknowlingly give him respect. I found this article on the Sikh foundation site.
  4. Sikhs are the most prosperous religious community of India today. They comprise landowners, business tycoons, professionals and tradesmen. They head industrial corporations like Ranbaxy, Fortis, Apollo Tyres and others. Their control organizations like Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee ( S.G.P.C) which controls all the historical shrines has an annual budget of almost Rs 30 crores and runs a large network of schools, colleges, hospitals and ancillary institutions. In a country where malnutrition and famines are common, no Sikh goes hungry. In a country full of beggars, it is rare to see a Sikh stretch out his palm and beg for money. However there is a dark side to this view of prosperity. Nearly a third of the community cannot read or write. The rate of fetal killings of females is about the highest in the India. So is the malice of violence, drink, drugs and alcoholism. Shameful discrimination of Dalit Sikhs known as Mazhabi’s persists: they are forced to live on the outskirts of villages, have separate wells and gurudwaras, inter-caste marriages in a community which claims to be casteless is unknown. An increasing number of young Sikhs do not conform to the Khalsa form of Sikhism: they trim their hair and beards, smoke hookahs and cigarettes. In the elite Patiala Clubs you can see the sons of the rich smoking and drinking while playing cards. It is this negative aspect of the community which has given birth to the breakaway sub-communities like the Nirankaris, Namdharis and Radhasoamis. It also explains the eruption of deras like the Sacha Sauda & hundreds of others across Punjab. They proliferate because they do not have caste discriminations and welcome Hindus into their fold. Venting anger against deras is not good enough. We should coolly examine the phenomena and rectify our errors. I have no concrete suggestions to make what steps leaders of our community should take to mend this sad state of affairs. It is for them to chalk out a plan which is workable and has the support of those who have the welfare of the community in their hearts.
  5. The closest one seems to be San Antonio Texas. It is logical to assume if there is any Sikhs in the area they might congregate at a house, or something.
  6. That's the tranlsation by Bindra, probably the worst attempt at a translation I've ever seen, and a big contribution to much of the controversy today. It's not worth reading, even if given free. I wouldnt doubt it, hes hella involved with Jasbir Singh Mann. Mann is the guy that tries to denonunce the Dasam Granth sahib. The thing is its the only translation out there.
  7. Here is a possible English Translation. I sent an email to the book seller to check if its in english. I will reply as soon as I find out! http://www.alibris.c...itro%20Pakhyaan,%20Vol.2 --> Book Seller in India
  8. Here is some pdfs of Dasam Granth Sahib Ji. http://globalsikhstudies.net/pdf/Hakayats.pdf
  9. I sure as hell hope the police do something in that country to protect minorities!!
  10. The bad crowd is something to stay away from. Its corrupting and distracting from school and God. The key to surviving high school is to find people that will support you. The friends that I thought were the best ended up becoming the largest alcoholics in high school. Really handpick your friends. The best option is to meet people outside your school, and just minimize your contact with kids at High School. Find other Sikhs that are passionate about Sikhi around the Cleveland area and make friends with them. You may not be so close so hang out on the weekends and keep in contact via text and <banned word filter activated>. Let me know if you need help. Best, kuthaman
  11. The Sikh Marriage Bani was written by Guru Ram Das Ji. Instead of circling the SGGS they would instead circle the Guru Sahib of the time.
  12. Harinder Singh of SikhRi is one of the Directors of Digital Library.... There is still a strong association between SikhRi and PDL...PDL was in fact a brain child of SikhRi I wouldnt doubt the links, the material is questionable at times. Lots of Hinduism stuff.
  13. Check out this Topic I made this a while Back!!
  14. This website has a bunch of old manuscripts that they are digitizing. You can adopt books to have them uploaded. They have more Hinduism and Sikhism stuff, but it seems to be a Sikh based website. Check it out sangat and letme know what you thin asap. They also have books that are uploaded and digitized. Who made this website? http://www.panjabdig...es/mainpage.jsp
  15. It is authored by Sangat Singh. I just bought so once it comes in the mail ill post more information.
  16. Your criticizing Rahit in order to justify the existence of Ravidassia faith? The oldest Rahits date back to the time of the Gurus and they are fairly similar. The 1920's Rahit which you talked awayed stripped away the casteism that you are opposed to. One of the oldest Rahits is Gyan Ratnvali by Bhai Mani Singh. Also, Have you heard of Gyani Ditt Singh? He was one of the most active members of the Singh Sabha movement, and one its most important leaders. Here is a bio http://www.sikh-hist.../dittsingh.html
  17. Hey Guys I just found a cheap Bachitar Natik Sateek on the internet for about 10 dollars. I was thinking I should scan it since most people have an interest in the Dasam Granth Sahib. Please let me know what you think,
  18. The realization is there but are you ready to take action?
  19. I hate to say it, but it is probably better. A lot of the Ravidassias and Sikhs have had many arguments all over the internet. Many people reject the caste system, but this is probably better for both communities. They are free to develop in what ever way they choose. What numbers does Dera Ballan have and also what is your personal belief?
  20. I do not understand your position. I see a large post, but I cannot really understand what you are getting at. Please give me a small summary of your point.
  21. unnecessary quote removed Ravidassia is a movement that started in British times. Bhagat Ravidas Jis oldest manuscript writings exist within the Guru Granth Sahib. Its a raj inspired movement that was founded by a guy named Mangoo Ram. Kabirpanthis have been around before Sikhism, but the whole concept of Ravidassia is a new thing. Where are you getting the idea that all low caste Sikhs are miraculously become Ravidas. Even if they do convert they will still be abused. The poorest person in India has the same status the poorest person in Pakistan.
  22. I would guess, quite a few people may not have read Kalki Avtar in Sri Dasam Granth ji. In summary, it is prophesized in Kalki Avtar composition that sometime in future, when almost everyone is engaged in sinful acts and people do not do any act of “Dharma”, an avtar will come. That avtar will be named Kalki Avtar. He will fight the evil. He will engage in a war in which all of evil doers will be killed and a “yug” (times) of “dharma “ would be established. I have not been able to see from which Chhand (stanza) Jassa ji has drawn the inference that in Kalki Avtar it is prophesized about Ravidasias converting all the dalits and become the rulers of Delhi. I would appreciate very much if Jassa ji can tell us by quoting the name of the Chhand (Stanza), and the line number therein from where he is drawing his inference. Ravidasias became very active from late 1960s and 1970s on. Like some other sects (like the fake Nirankaris – though in a different way) Ravidasias have been trying to highjack the Sikh panth. First they started to say that because Bhagat Ravidas lived before Guru Nanak Dev, he was the Guru of Guru Nanak Dev , then they wanted that it should be Bhagat Ravidas who should be considered as the one who started Sikhism. When that did not happen, they started to demand that Sikhs should call Bhagat Ravidas as Guru Ravidas not Bhagat Ravidas. I hope what Jassa ji is saying is not one of the newest thing that is being circulated by them, in the hope that many Dalit Sikhs who have not read Kalki Avtar in Sri Dasam Granth, fall for that it was prophesized in Dasam Granth that the all dalit community is going to convert to Ravidasis , so they should do that too. Let me dispel some myths. Ravidassia is a caste that has both Sikh and Hindu members. Dera Ballan is a cult, like Radhasoami, that has a cult leader that makes decisions. The cult followers, which are mostly Hindu, will follow this new faith. Many Sikh Ravidassia Temples in UK have banned cult leaders from Dera Ballan.
