  1. Here are some links that will help. Sorry about the late reply! I have included both the English and Punjabi version of the Janamsakhi Tradition by Kirpal Singh. Its English edition does not have Gyan Ratnavali, but it draws heavily from it. http://www.globalsikhstudies.net/pdf/janamsakhi.pdf -> English http://www.globalsikhstudies.net/pdf/pun_jan.pdf -> Punjabi
  2. I saw this topic and honestly this is one of the most positive things I have seen on here in a long time. Yeah its a good idea and I think our community does really read enough. Writing is the way to get to the youth.
  3. Sorry about the late reply. What do you have in mind?
  4. "The Sivalik area is the richest area of Punjab in terms of floral and faunal diversity and has been identified as one of the micro-endemic zones of India. Amongst the Angiosperms, about 355 species of herbs, 70 tree species, 70 species of shrubs or under shrubs, 19 of climbers and 21 species of twiners have been recorded from the area. Apart from angiosperms, 31 species of Pteridophytes, 27 of bryophytes and one species of gymnosperms (Pinus roxburghii) have also been recorded. The area is also rich in faunal diversity including 396 species of birds, 214 species of Lepidoptera, 55 species of fish, 20 species of reptiles, and 19 species of mammals.[8] There are no natural forests in the plains; extensive tracts occur covered only with grass, shrubs and bushes. The mango fruit is largely cultivated in the south-east of the Punjab and attains a high degree of perfection about Multan and Hoshiarpur. Cultivated fruit trees, such as orange, pomegranate, apple, peach, fig, mulberry, quince, apricot, almond, and plum are abundant in the region.[9] There are a number of wetlands, bird sanctuaries and zoological parks across Punjab. These include the Hari-Ke-Pattan National Wetland and Wildlife Sanctuary at Harike in Tarn Taran Sahib District, the Kanjli Wetland, the Kapurthala Sutlej Water Body Wetland, the Ropar Zoological Park, Chhatbir, Bansar Garden, Sangrur, the Aam Khas Bagh, Sirhind, the Ram Bagh Garden Amritsar, the Shalimar Garden, Kapurthala and the Baradari Garden at Patiala.[10] Alligators are also commonly found in local rivers. The silkworm is reared with great skill and industry, and bees produce abundant wax and honey. Camels thrive in the hot southern plains, and herds of buffaloes on the grazing lands adjoining the rivers. Horses are reared in the north-east part of the Punjab.[9] Among poisonous snakes there are the cobra and the sangehur, the bite of which causes instant death. Other mammals like the smooth-coated otter, hog deer, wild boar, flying fox, wildcat, squirrel, fruitbat, and mongoose can be seen in the wild and in reserves. The state bird of Punjab is the Baz (Eastern Goshawk)[11] (Melierax poliopterus), the state animal is the Blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra), and the state tree is the Shisham (Dalbergia sissoo).[6]" This is from wikipedia. It talks about he wildlife in Indian Punjab. I never new there was such rich collection of wildlife in Punjab. I feel like we can really connect with our ancestral land if learn about the Nature aspect of it. The way our ancestors interacted with nature really defined our heritage. This is a thing that arose in my mind while I was doing some yard work. How much do you all know about the environmental of Punjab?
  5. I will go first. I am going to post a facebook status about Bhai Gurdas Ji and his contribution to the Sikh Panth.
  6. All this Discussion is a good start. Sadly it means nothing if we do not take the ideas discussed and make a formative plan. I have a close friend that is Cacausian, but he ended up marrying a Sikh girl. He was telling me when he was in Punjab that so many people in Chandigarh have converted to Christianity, because they were offered passage to the West. Honestly the Sikh Revolution will come from the West and New Sikhs. We need new blood that will lead and embody this sense of mission. Current Sikhs need to unite and take action . The old folks in our community would rather play politics and gossip at Gurdwara. Its sad but our community has some seriously horrible habitsAs a people we need to unite. These forums are chance r us to organize and push out the Sikh message. I have honestly tried to organize Sikhs, the only thing I have recieved his negativity. Fighting with missionaries of all sorts, forced conversions in Europe, castism, and all the other issues are something that need to be addressed. I have created a topic called "What would you do for Sikhism today??" Post what you feel you can do to make a difference in the panth. http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/61704-what-would-do-for-sikhism-today/#entry501946
  7. Please post what you do for the panth today. It can range from Community Service, Langar Seva, Stopping somebody from Discriminating against another, Educating a person about Sikhism. It can be as small as a posting a facebook or Twitter Status talking about Sikh ideas and inspirations., These small things if put together are the foundation of a movement. Please post.

  11. Dont worry so much about women. The right one will come into your life. One of my kesdhari friends was at Bhangra practice. One gurl suggested that he date this one gurl also on the team. The other gurl was like I dont date guys with turbans. My friend was utterly shocked! We later found she was talking to some Muslim friend that was on the team. The gurl almost dated some Muslim guy. He felt bad for a few minutes. We had a chat that who cares what those gurls do or say; its their loss. Hes happy and found a gurl that likes him for who he is, and yes he still does wear a turban. Turbans are something different that women find attractive. No offense but most Indian dudes, espcially without turbans look the same. Not much variation in style or personality. They do and act the same way. Use your turban to your advantage. Make it part of ur idenity, and make sure people see it. In a sense own who you are! PM me if you want some more information on mindset. Best, kuthaman
  12. What issues are depressing you? Do you feel like you dont fit in? The more direct you are about what your suffering about the more we can help you. If you dont feel comfortable posting PM me. Best, kuthaman
  13. I will keep this simple. Asceticism is against the message of Sikhism. You cannot give up the world, and go pray all day. The Bani Sidh Ghost is all about not giving up the world. In Sikhi we believe that we should live in the world and not be consumed by it. The person who is leading you to abandon your family is misleading.
  14. There is a post office named after him here in california.
  15. Its sad we must create programs to go and help these people. Its a clear and open invitation to Christian Missionaries.
  16. Punjab as a state is stuggling. I dont post much on here anymore, but seeing you post gave me an urge to reply. Study and research deeply before making comments about the Punjab and the Sikh religion. You may have read a few books on Punjab, but realize that the history of Sikhism is the history of Punjab. Naxalite movement is something that is associated with Communism. Writing a PhD thesis on communist ideologies may suggest you have staunch atheistic leanings. Karl Marx says "Religion is the opiate of the masses". That statment may be a defining factor in your beliefs. Let me state one thing as a student of religion do not underestimate the power of religion. The Sikh Gurus stripped away religion as a mode of oppression, and gave it to the people as a power to claim their power. Education is something you say will liberate people, but how can it do so when it biased toward a particular ideology (Congress or BJP). Punjab is one of the most successful states within India, but it also something that is feared by the Congress and BJP. As a person writing a PhD thesis I assume you are definitely intelligent. If I am correct the Naxalite movement has ties to China, or Maoists. Understanding the Naxalite movement would require at least some basic knowledge about Maoism and China. China is a country that practices widespread ethnographic manipulation. Han Chinese people will move into remote areas, and slowly absorb the population. It eventually gets to the point where their have almost no individual identity. This is happening as we speak with the Uygur's and Tibetans. Punjab has a fair share of problems that will take time to get over. You are an educated person contribute knowledge to help the young sikhs learn something. Your just indulging in emotional time waste. Give your knowledge freely, and post what you have learned about the Naxalite movment. I know I would sincerely enjoy reading it. Its one part of Punjab's history that I do not know anyhing about. Sorry if I was too harsh Sincerely, kuthaman
  17. Jehovah's witness is one of the most powerful cults. It is comparable to the Mormons. They believe 144,000 people will go to heaven. They also believe the world will end in 2012. This will not happen, and will be pushed back to the like a random 2000s number. Never underestimate these cults, and learn what they believe so u can refute it.
  18. Watch the video and look at the Sikh Image being used to promote Candy. Its total BS. Please post your comments agree and disagree. http://www.devourthesour.com
  19. Here are some Urban Centers of Sikhs. Colleges also serve as places where Sikh youth congregate. Yuba City, CA Queens, New York Central Valley(Inland Region of California), California - Lots of Farmland Hollywood, CA (White Sikhs have a Guru RamDas Ashram) Espinoala, New Mexico - the area where American Sikhs are centered. Greater Los Angeles Area is home to many Sikhs.
  20. This is an amazing article. I have been looking for information on this figure for years. I want express my thanks!!!
  21. The Dasam Granth makes these statments on the Nature of Shiva. If you need help interpreting them please ask Source - sridasam.org Page 35, Line 4 He hath created and destroyed Brahmas and Rudras (Shivas). Page 41, Line 11 Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu and Consort of Sachi (Indra) would ultimately fall in the noose of death. Page 43, Line 13 Many Rudras (Shivas) of ghastly appearance are there; many unique Ramas and Krishnas are there. 10.40. Page 48, Line 8 If the Lord is realised by the practice of austerities, then none is more austere than god Shiva; if the Lord meets by the recitation of Vedas, then none is more conversant with the Vedas than the god Brahma: there is also no great performer of asceticism than Sanat Kumar (the son of Brahma). Page 48, Line 10 There was one Shiva, who passed away and another one came into being; there are many incarnations of Ramchandra and Krishna. Page 71, Line 9 The gods Shiva, Indra and Brahma repeat `Neti, Neti` about Him.3.183. Page 75, Line 11 But the Vedas, Shiva, Rudra and Brahma could not Know His mystery and the secret of His notions. Page 86, Line 2 Millions of Indras are at His service. Millions of the Yogi Rudras (Shivas stand at His Gate. Page 88, Line 7 Shiva also could not know His limits; the adepts (Siddhas) alongwith Naths and Sanak etc. meditated upon Him.
  22. I never thought about it that way. Its really one of those article that makes people feel good, but in reality it has no value to Sikhi. The kala afghana stuff is clear when he makes references in his articles.
