  1. Hope I'm not questioning Giani Ji's intelligence here, but do they actually know what 'kiss' means, well in English? For a bibi that went through this ordeal she seemed incredibly calm and was trying her best to entice Giani Ji into admitting something that he on the surface was not aware of. As an outsider, looks like a case of delayed entrapment.. :blush2:
  2. Totally forgot about this post..hahaha. Please read replies @ http://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,6727 and make up your own minds.
  3. Aghori Sadhus have been wondering India naked for 150 years, they flock to the Kumbh Mela in their hundreds and I've never seen Sikhs proactively opening a dialogue with them to prevent them from practising Shaivism - which would be wrong anyways, but a darn sight better than kicking the cr*p out of them. Why target a single person with physical violence and degrade him in public. Giving a good thrashing and asking questions later is not good practice and tolerance goes out of the window.
  4. I came across this video yesterday and was gob smacked by these perpetrators attacking an innocent man and degrading him for no apparent reason. No matter what our beliefs we cannot press upon others our way of thinking and certainly not by force. Only takes a handful of people to tarnish many. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G0FV_rRso8
  5. Understood VG. I'm stuck in my ways now and find it hard to move past this aspect. Having spoken to a Mahapurak they tell me to continue with shud readings even if focus takes one away from deeper meanings as been told it will come later.
  6. In no particular order do Ardas, trust your parents, find a suitable vichola, ensure that a research party is sent to find out about the potential grooms background and his families and think carefully about the questions you ask when you meet. Ultimately 'Sanjog' will have an overriding effect and who you are destined to marry as per karmic cycle will occur.
  7. I am also going to stick my neck out and be v pedantic here, probably because of my early Taksali influence, so apologies if I offend anyone. If we listen carefully the pronunciations of Ek-O-Angkar are incorrect in the posts by both Neo and Mohkam Singh veers. I'm afraid the proper use of the 'A' sound in the HD vids and the 'O' sounds in the Jagjit Singh vid are either absent or so subtle they are barely audible.
  8. the key to the tests we all face and rest assured not just you is to never give up. the fall is always harder after a period of stability but staying down will only bring more misery and heartache than you can imagine and the chors will be victorious. if you don't believe me try and leave the Sikhi path for only a week or two and you will see all your affairs in complete dissarray. ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ सलोकु मः ३ ॥ Salok mėhlā 3. 10. If your figures are correct then this is 'mauj' of Satguru and secondly karam of Sangat present comes into play for the ones who did not partake in the Pahul ceremony on the auspicious occasion or ran away in fear.

  15. sikhanswers site Sikhi favours family life and monogamy. ਏਕਾ ਨਾਰੀ ਜਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਪਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਧੀ ਭੈਣ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥ “Be faithful to your ‘one wife’, see others as your daughters and sisters, (for women you must be faithful to one husband and see others as your sons and brothers)” (Bhai Gurdaas Ji, Vaar 6: Pauri 8.) Marriage is highly regarded and both man and woman must respect one another as they join together to share their spiritual path and goal in life. The ideal family is one where there is mutual love and respect between the husband and the wife and their children and grand children if any. The Anand Marriage Act, 1909, gave a wife status equal to that of her husband. The marriage establishes a permanent relationship between the partners and there is no provision for a divorce under this Act, for the Sikh marriage (Anand Karaj) is a sacrament and not a civil contract. There is no concept or Maryada (code) of divorce in the Sikh religion. Civil divorce is considered a very grave matter. When the marriage takes place the husband and wife agree in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to stay with each other and love and honour each other for life. This should be honoured by both parties to their best of their abilities. If marital discord takes place, the community intervenes. Panj Pyaaray can be asked to help resolve the situation. The Sikh Rehit Maryada states: ਟ) ਆਮ ਹਾਲਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੂਜਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਏ ॥ p. In normal circumstances, no Sikh should marry a second wife if the first wife is alive. (SRM: Chapter 11, Article 18) In some very extreme, abnormal or rare circumstances marital breakdown, the Sangat or Panj Pyaare can give permission to someone to re-marry, however, even then there is no religious ceremony for divorce. The couple can, however, obtain a divorce under the Civil law of the land. In the olden times if the marriage broke down in an extreme circumstance, the woman would leave her husband and go and stay with her parents. Nowadays, the partners may live separately, or apply for a civil divorce. However, the Panj Piaare, elder Gursikhs or Sangat should be consulted. Marriage is not however considered something that can be formed and broken at will. It is a commitment made in front of God and to be relieved of that commitment to the other person some very extenuating circumstances must be present. If one gets to get remarried, they can get remarried with the Anand Kaaraj ceremony: ਙ) ਪੁਨਰ ਵਿਆਹ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਇਹੋ ਰੀਤ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ‘ਆਨੰਦ’ ਲਈ ਉਤੇ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੈ | o. Remarriage may be solemnized in the same manner as the Anand marriage. (SRM: Chapter 11, Article 18)

  17. A lovely short film showing Sikh youth in Germany talking their faith in Guru Sahib and how they are accepted and feel at home, simply wonderful. Be a great idea to have similar length films from across the globe. Even though I don't understand much German I always find it intriguing watching Sikhs converse in languages other than Punjabi. It fills me with joy to see Sikhs spreading the message worldwide.
  18. The post about the Danish bibi prompted this one :-)
  19. http://scroll.in/article/671238/Rare-images-of-Sikh-soldiers-who-fought-in-World-War-I As we approach the centenary of the beginning of World War I, on July 28, revisionist histories are beginning to examine the role of non-white and non-European people in the war effort. From the Indian sub-continent, around 1.5 million soldiers volunteered to fight in places from Belgium to West Asia. Many of them were Sikhs. Empire, Faith & War: The Sikhs and World War One, an exhibition at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London organised by the United Kingdom Punjab Heritage Association, showcases the rich history of Sikhs who served in the British Army. While largely unremembered in textbooks in the years after the war, contemporary documents and photographs do record their effort. The exhibition began on July 9 and will close on September 28. “By telling the Sikh story, we want to remind the world of this wider undervalued contribution of the non-white British Empire,” said UKPHA chairman Amandeep Madra. “This is British history and a story that helps explain much about modern Britain as well as filling in a tragically missing piece of World War I history.” The exhibition brings together unprinted photographs, postcards, comics, drawings and other artefacts to trace the narrative of Sikhs in the British army. But it also goes beyond just the soldiers’ lives by looking at the families they left behind and collecting their oral histories. Photographs show Sikhs cheerfully interacting with other soldiers and civilians. Sikhs also became objects of interest when held in camps for prisoners of war. Axis forces took advantage of their capture and conducted controversial ethnographic studies of them.
  20. How did the Jews become so powerful since they emigrated to the US, they are running the media, banks and film studios??. It is through the media that they have successfully demonised the Muslims the world over including Palestinians.
