  1. Bruce Lee was one of the primary reasons so many aoney took to Martial Disciplines, mostly Karate, in the 70s 80s, his posters were in every boys bedroom, he was an icon, a hero which prompted them in to action. What a figure, still impacting the lives of fans, incl my son who wonders at his nunchucku moves, one inch punch, screaming cat like noises..vah!
  2. Thanks for sharing, recognise at least one auntie in that pic, was a regular at Havelock..
  3. So what is the answer to my question, you think its ok or not for us, as we're dung beetles comparing ourselves to Hawks?
  4. Is there any proof that one must cover hair whilst reciting Gurbani kantth? I get it if you're reading from Pothi or Gutka Sahib. The reason for the question... The aim is to recite naam athe pehar (24x7), this would mean for a high avastha individual rom rom, so even during kesi ishnaan and other worldly activities. Or is there a prescribed method for Nitnem?
  5. Absolutely. We also need to look at the purpose of Kakaaars as I mentioned in another post, where the footballer asked if he should remove his kirpaan during the game. Such young children have no concept of their significance, no need to turn this into a pageant.
  6. I don't mind the fathers taking a leading role in this type of activity, it fits well to the activity. The only reason some Muslim fathers are absent is that they are still in their taxis or managing the rent on the council house they received with their nth wife
  7. Haha. Let them? Are you serious or deluded. No parents with an ounce of self worth grant them a green light into kanjar puna. *deleted comment*
  8. I think he's trying to make the point of why at such a young age...they will have be worn on top of nappies/diapers, might look cute but hardly practical.
  9. My son is currently learning MMA/Tae Kwon do, majority of the class are Muslims and smattering of Hindus. A friend and his sons go boxing, practically all the class are Muslims. The Sikhs that do turn up rarely go the whole course. I respect the sulay for this determination, we all have a role to play so future generations can handle themselves when the time comes. *I get we are fewer in number but these are areas where there is a relatively large proportion of Sikhs.
  10. some years ago I watched a programme where Ethiopian Christians claimed he was a native. the debate will rage on forever, but looking at articles most concede he was somewhere in between white/black.
  11. hell, there is some evidence Jesus was black. if only undeniable proof existed, that would shatter the Lilly white Christians to smithereens
  12. good work, will purchase some for the Mrs as an anniversary present, better than a drill
  13. so fuzzy I'm not so sure. regardless, agree with JKV. Our bunch leave their kids at home to their own devices usually, instead of getting their kids at the very least into self defence classes or into boxing, wrestling gyms. Musalmaans clock it and have opened their own MMA classes. Sikhs are getting there but at a snails pace.
  14. That was the Liberty but they only showed Indian films from '72. When the first Star Wars movie came out, we actually walked all the way to Hayes, a perilous journey considering the racial climate, to the Cinema on Uxbridge Road. I think that is now a Mecca Bingo. pics..
  15. The main cinema was the palace on South Road with the Chinese exterior. It would be packed to the rafters every time a new flick was released. It died a death with the advent of VHS and everyone including us were renting bootleg vids from the myriad shops that popped up. The cinemas demise was a sad one, in the 80's it was converted into tiny stalls, a meat/fish market - boy did that stench, clothing and ironically multiple film rental units. The Afghanis adopted the same model by going one step further and dividing and standard retail floor space in to a gazillion shops selling cheap tat from China at inflated prices to the many visitors who still marvel at Southall. The buzz of the place diminished massively once the mainly Sikh owned shops started disappearing to be replaced with large Pakistani owned restaurants and then the already mentioned Afghan influx. The parking restrictions did not help either!
  16. Going there tomorrow hopefully will report back, if the pedestrian access is not closed the car one from that side will be. We always defined old/new sides based on demarcation lines of the railway bridge.
  17. Does it mention Singh? Cowards anyways, 7 against 1, surprised he didnt see it coming, maybe he was inebriated on moot therefore not a Singh in the true sense.
  18. @dallysingh101might know a few Singhs or @Jonny101, their previous posts suggest a love for training/fitness
304} 1. The Manmukh (such person who is run by his mind) person stays stuck in greed all day. Manmukh is interested in non-Naam tasks and actions (ਹੋਰੇ ਗਲਾ). 2. At night the Manmukh is overcome by sleep. All the 9 doors (mouth, two ears, two nostrils, two eyes, two excretory organs) are lose or weak because they are indulged in non-Naam actions. The word ਢਿਲਾ means lose in the sense that the 9 doors of the body are not under the control of the Manmukh and rather the Manmukh is under their control. During the day, the Manmukh is stuck in greed and at night by sleep. In other words, no time for Naam Abhyaas. 3. Manmukhs are totally under the spell of Kaam and for this reason, they are under the control of women. 4. Manmukhs, under the spell of Kaam, do what women tell them to do and for this reason they are impure and stupid. 5. Such persons who are under the spell of Kaam are impure persons and they do as women tell them to do. The above was the literal explanation of the points 3, 4 and 5. The above pankitis apply to both men and women. There are so many stories and tales in our folk-culture to prove that when persons act under the spell of Kaam, they don't make rational decisions. They listen to their partners, not because what they are told is correct but because they are under the spell of Kaam. The story of Pooran Bhagat is just this. Raja Salvaan the father of Pooran Bhagat got married to Loona who was almost the same age as his son. Loona, the step-mother of Pooran Bhagat tried to seduce him and when he rejected her advances, she falsely accused Pooran Bhagat of molesting her. Raja Salvan was totally under the spell of Kaam and without thinking, sentenced that his son by cut into pieces and thrown in a well. Everyday we hear tales of men and women acting under the spell of Kaam and doing some really stupid and atrocious actions. There was a report of a woman who killed her young children because she wanted to be with her boyfriend, who did not like the fact that she had kids. She killed her kids for the sake of a Kaamic relationship. Newspapers are filled with stories where a person under the spell of Kaam obeys the evil requests of his or her partner. In the above pankitis, the reference is to such men (or women) who under the influence of Kaam, listen to evil advices of their partners. It is not directed towards women in general. Guru Sahib who was the protector and unholder of the honour of women could have never asked his Gursikhs to not listen to women in general. The Hukam of Guru Sahib is to not get under the influence of Kaam and then listen to evil suggestions of women. This Salok is very clearly geared towards ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਕੁਸੁਧ ਨਰ (Impure persons under the influence of Kaam) and not towards men who otherwise have loving relationships with women who are their mother, aunts, grandmothers, sisters, daughters and wife. Daas, Kulbir Singh (GurmatBibek)
  20. le, we have our very own Charlie Dimmock on SS, very hands on advice
  21. Bollywood has completely taken its leaf from the West. Much older Hindi and Punjabi movies had some moral story behind them and less gandh, but the way they dress, sing and act now is mirroring what's going in Hollywood. This decline in morality is not helping matters
  22. Oh yes, I remember that side entrance from Hibernia Road, used it many a time. I heard the the owner took the committee to court over it which is why they permanently blocked it off. Master Ranjit Singh was a founding member, he was one of the good guys, the others not so much. Once the main Gurdwara was constructed, as it stands now, the cabin was used as the library. I rarely talk to my mother about the historical background of the prominent Hounslow Guru Ghar, Martindale (Nishkam run) being the other. But I do know that at least one of the respected and famous figures was not the shining beacon everyone thought he was.. Hey ho, most of us have skeletons in the cupboard, best not to dwell on negatives. We stopped going to Havelock for a number of years after the corrupt beant and his cronies wrestled control from the ISYF, not my decision as I was still a kid and ended up being a regular at Alice Way and eventually to Park Av.
  23. Considering the core of the bibeki Singh's successfully use citric acid outside of India don't see what the issue is. At bhinder taksal they use a large sandpit, build one of those under shelter if you have space and recycle the sand when required.
