  1. curious man : You will never be able to convince someone of something which they so strongly believe in(even if it is wrong), this is because it is deep rooted in their ego, never offer advice for where it is not needed. They will fight, complain, and so on. Its like those hindus who always say their religion is mother of all. they seek gratification for the ego, for they can never be wrong! The Khalsa will protect the maratha even if they were under trouble, this is nature of the Khalsa. Khalsa doesnt need to boost its glory, Khalsa is humble, for Khalsa was one with the entire creation. Just tell him that you have your own beliefs, and he has his own and that sikhs have no disgust against them, the way they might have towards the khalsa.
  2. thanks for sharing <_< ps : 'oi' might sound like a cool word to say.. but i find it really annoying... use something else please
  3. Try this http://www.westbyte.com/ida/ It has got good reviews. Hope it helps.
  4. vaheguru ji ka khalsa, vaheguru ji ki fateh I agree with your views, but we still should not lose hope the good and bad times come and go. please remember that in the early 1900's, there were a lot of hindu brahmins around our Gurudwaras and many rituals were being performed according to their traditions like marriage etc. It went so far as they used to place their dieties moortis in our Harminder Sahib and have ram lila plays at Gurdwara Taran Taran. All this has changed and anand marriage act passed in 1906 also got rid of brahmins doing marriages according to their rites, and sikh priests could do it according to the sikh custom. If we look back at history there always has been good and bad times. Its a cycle more or less.
  5. Its not a question about polygamy or if "the gurus had more then one wife it is correct of us to have more then one also". I believe even if Guru Ji had more then one wife it wouldnt be out of kaam or desire. But its a matter of corretly interpreting history. There have been misinterpretation by people. When Guru Ji said that mata ji you would have thousands of thousands of children, Guru Ji was meaning the khalsay, the thousands khalsay who took amrit.
  6. Seems like a ray of hope for sikhs in France.. Please send/fax a copy of your passport photo, to the case above, if you live in one of the EU countries.
  7. Guru Ji just had one wife.
  8. Discussion is fine as long as it doesnt go on forcing the person's belief on others. The less tolerant a person is, the less accepting the person becomes. To me The quote "The more religion you have, the less tolerant you are", implies an unhealthy society, where people are always complaining about their intolerance. But although as a sikh comes closer in union with Ik Onkar, He believes everything is perfect and tolerance increases, acceptance increases(of ppl as they are).
  9. And I seriously believe Guru Ji didnt need to will an attack on the Harminder Sahib for Khalistan.
  10. Lets hope if Khalistan is His will, then hopefully we realize it without the need of any bloodshed and corrupt politics. Have faith in the Guru for whatever will happen, even if there is no khalistan. The real khalistan to be found is within ourselves, this khalistan cannot be described, for it is transcendent. Not all dushts are dead I believe? the general kuldeep singh is still alive, even though he's a sikh, the explanation he gives is that he was given a duty, and he regarded duty higher then his religion, and he didnt resign from his duty either. I can reason why kuldeep singh is still alive and Guru ji hasnt willed for him to die, even though attacked by so many ppl (his relatives too). Now to tell if someone is guilty there are two ways, just to say that if a person killed someone we cannot say he is guilty. For a person who has the inclination to do a 'crime'/ murder and within his self he believes that he is going against the moral law, then he is committing a crime and is guilty. But if a person does his duty, and within he believes that it is going in accordance with the moral law, or the Divine will, then he is not guilty.
  11. Just remember the one, rest is His will. I believe there is still the sikh general (Kuldeep Singh) who attacked/headed the army and is still alive. Despite many attacks on him even by his own realtives, he is still alive. I believe the number 153 doesnt hold any significance. Guru ji Himself does everything. Even to think that the attack happened on the Golden Temple without His will, is to mistrust the power of his Will. do people think that the attack happened on the temple structure without His will? this is something to think about for all the khalistanis out there.
  12. Gur Fateh, Great posts... Although I do like to say that not all sikh marriages are spiritual journeys. The individuals themselves in some stage of their lives have to realize the supreme power of the hukam and realize that not all things are within our control. We cannot control other people's thoughts, nor can we cause the sun to not rise today. But as soon as we realize that there is a universal force acting on all, and that all are binded by that then the feeling of ego comes in humility and start acting with respect to the moral law. Now if two people come to realize this then by Guru's grace two souls become one in two bodies. Then there is no question of divorces. In real sikh relationships there is no divorce. Since people have detracted from the path of sikhi, they can also make their own judgements about divorce depending on the situation. Sorry, I know this post is somewhat away from the topic.
  13. Gur Fateh, I have seen nihangs wearing huge dummallas. Whats the main reason behind this? Is this out of pride, the bigger the better? Concentration over the crown chakra or respect ? Please discuss.
  14. SHALOK, FIRST MEHL: You may read and read loads of books; you may read and study vast multitudes of books. You may read and read boat-loads of books; you may read and read and fill pits with them. You may read them year after year; you may read them as many months are there are. You may read them all your life; you may read them with every breath. O Nanak, only one thing is of any account: everything else is useless babbling and idle talk in ego. || 1 || FIRST MEHL: The more one write and reads, the more one burns. The more one wanders at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, the more one talks uselessly. The more one wears religious robes, the more pain he causes his body. O my soul, you must endure the consequences of your own actions. One who does not eat the corn, misses out on the taste. One obtains great pain, in the love of duality. One who does not wear any clothes, suffers night and day. Through silence, he is ruined. How can the sleeping one be awakened without the Guru? One who goes barefoot suffers by his own actions. One who eats filth and throws ashes on his head the blind fool loses his honor. Without the Name, nothing is of any use. One who lives in the wilderness, in cemetaries and cremation grounds that blind man does not know the Lord; he regrets and repents in the end. One who meets the True Guru finds peace. He enshrines the Name of the Lord in his mind. O Nanak, when the Lord grants His Grace, He is obtained. He becomes free of hope and fear, and burns away his ego with the Word of the Shabad. || 2 || PAUREE: Your devotees are pleasing to Your Mind, Lord. They look beautiful at Your door, singing Your Praises. O Nanak, those who are denied Your Grace, find no shelter at Your Door; they continue wandering. Some do not understand their origins, and without cause, they display their self-conceit. I am the Lords minstrel, of low social status; others call themselves high caste. I seek those who meditate on You. || 9 || Thursday 25 Chayt (Samvat 537 Nanakshahi) (Page: 467)
  15. great article! How many of us are trying to fit in? Lots!! I believe with Guru' s kirpa and a good will everything is possible.. We just need to take the first step towards it. Its interesting to know how the dress in full bana is in the fashion there
  16. Its not only Hindus that say but even muslims. Just remind them of the time when Aurangzeb said that he would kill/convert all the hindus in India and then Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji preserved thier faith by sacrificing his life. These days the hindus have forgot about all the sacrifices the sikhs made for them. The khalsa warrios used to save the hindu women and children at 12 every nite when the mughal soldiers used to attack and nowadays they have started to make a joke of it on sikhs. for example they would say the singh is now 12 oclock. It shows their lack of appreciation or ignorance of history. most hindus and muslims I know are very prideful and its best to avoid that company.
  17. Interesting situtation.... Its like if you would watch your own loved ones die and yet you do not go against the principles of Sikhi.... This is a state of the faithful, Its the same with the countless shaheeds in our history... but its sorry to hear it not the case anymore.
  18. Gur Fateh, There are a couple of posts where people are saying that homosexuality etc is forbidden in sikhi. This totally goes against the teachings, Guru Nanak Dev Ji said "The whole human race is one". Noone is any different then anyone. By what I figure is forbidden is the lust aspect of it or the sexual aspect of it. But sexual desires are forbidden unless they are out of true love and your only partner in life. One soul in two bodies.. I agree with ambrosia post's also on true love.. also i think sooner or later if the love is true spiritual love then it will break apart every illusion of attachment, and ego and will form unconditional love for all. Its a progressive stage. Also great points posted by sher_punjabi.. <_< There is another issue of gay marriage or lesbian marriage.. this is not our business and i think we should not interfere here as it will likely result in hurting others feelings and taking their rights away, whereas Sikhism has equal rights for all.
