  1. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Thanks for all your help, i know all of this information will help me on my path. I do have another question: What should i do if i am discriminated by my mother? I have heard form her that there will be severe consequences if i discintinue the JW way. She said that i will be booted from the house if i do so. Although i'm not afraid of telling here, i'm worried what i will do for shelter and money when i kicked out. I'm lost on the that subject....
  2. I made a small typo: "Is dancing good? in a book i read, it said is was good?" I meant to say "Is dancing good? in a book i read, it said is was not good" Thanks for you help. A user here pointed out my question on sikh symbol, i'll look more deeply into that. Thanks.
  3. Hello everyone, nice to post here again. Been gone for a while at my friends. Learning to becoming a sikh has proved to be an interesting venture. I haven't told my mom yet that i have become a sikh, however, in the new year i am going to break the silence and tell all. Considering that she i a avid JW, it's not going to go down well with here, but a true Sikh doesnt hesitate nor give in to other people. I also haven't gone to the Sikh temple yet, i want to meet someone else that is a sikh that will give me a few words or advice before i go in. I will probably wite a letter to the temple asking for a someone to meet me first. I like to go with someone else. Anyways i posted this thread to ask a few questions on the Sikh faith. I have done alot of internet searching lately, however i think it would be benificial for me to learn more from the users here. Some question i do have: What should i cover my hair with? What should i wear while in public? when confronting another sikh, how should i greet Him/her? What are common events that occur in the sikh temple (forgot the proper name) Should i wear the symbol of Sikhism? i have often seen younger sikh women with their hair uncovered, is that good? Is dancing good? in a book i read, it said is was good? What is an in depth meaning of Khalsa? Do all sikhs want a home country? Do sikh participate and intermingle with other cultures? Is iterracial marriage good? (i'm not east indian) One important question that has gotten to me, is: What should i do if i'm not welcomed when i attend the sikh temple? Thanks to all for you help. SD
  4. My question is what is it? (newb attack, sorry) I've heard of it before, but i never saw it in real life.
  5. I often wondered about this myslelf. I did a remake on the ancient tale of "Ramayana" about one year ago, i called it "the new Ramayana". It was the same story only it took place in 2100. Yeah, i know it sounds wierd, but it WAS a great story, it was so succesful that i even started a sequel. As i was researching the tale, i came across troubleing parts. Why did Rama throw out, or banish his wife because of what other people thought. When i did my remake i had a hard time with this issue.
  6. Im at another forum that has over 60,000 users, yet only 35 % actually post. Most due post, but only once or twice a year.
  7. It's not going to be easy to sety up Khalistan, but when it does happen, atleast we'll be able to have a homeland!!
  8. And i was all ready to go into the Gurdwara!!! Yes i will attend in the next month or so, but before, i would like to know a few guidlines and principles before i get into it. I'll follow the links as mentioned... ))))
  9. I watched that show the other night and i thought it was well done. I'm so sad that happened, i was teary through most parts of it.
  10. Thanks again. I would also like to know if there any users here that went through the same exp as me...
  11. Well, first of all - Should i go directly to the Gurdwara? or should i do some research first? I know it sounds dumb, but i'm new! Anyways, is there a standard time of the week or day that everyone comes to worship that i should be aware of?? What kind of precautions or rules should i respect? (thanks for telling me to cover my hair and not walk in the langar hall with my shoes)
  12. Thanks khalsapreet singh, smartsingh24, khalistani, Khãlsã, khalistani for directing, teaching, and encouraging me, i love it all!!! About 4 years ago i heard about the Sikhs, at first i didn't know what to expect, but i soon learned that it was a religion that i could eventually be part of. If anyone is wondering what religion i USED to be in it was the JW's. I used to be deeply involved in the faith, but i slowly drew away from it because some of the actions and priciples. Now i am no longer in the faith, but my guardian mother is - so i'm on my own. I realized that the Sikh religion appealed to me, the rich background, just causes, and good principles. I also realize that i can't be apart of a religion (JW) that i cannot dedicate to. So from now on (oct 21, 2004) i am officially going to become a Sikh! ( i have to learn first!) It will take time, knowledge and will power to become a devout Sikh. I also have the problem of my mother - she is a dedicated JW and it won't be easy trying to convince her that i want to be a Sikh. But who said anything like this was easy. If i want to become one, i must ry hard and pull through whatever hardship i face! :TH: I feel so pumped up, sorry for sounding over zealous about this, but i want to become part of something i will enjoy and benifit from. Glad to get that out of my mind!!! I will be visiting some of those sites that all of you mentioned. Thanks for your time... ...and understandment. -Darcy Starr
  13. What do you mean, you mean some of the ones? I guess, well... I'll have to learn the faith first, but how. Hmmm, i think i might have to do some connections...
  14. typo - what i ment by "we call them indian"... Long ago explorers came to the new world (present day america, canada, mexico) and found a new people. They called them indians because they thought they found India. Actually it was a new race, but the name stuck. So today the meaning gets mixed up, and so most people from India are called east indians, while native aboriginals are often STILL caled indians. What a country canada is eh?? :D
  15. Can any person become a Sikh?? I have always wondered myself what Sikhs think of this topic. In vernon we have a sikh community, there's even a temple in the city! I often look at who goes in the door at the temple (i live close by), and noticed that there is alott of Indians attend. Yet i have only seen 2 non-indian people go in - and ive lived in vernon for 5 years. I suppose it's just peoples misconceptions that people from different background don't become sikhs (to the best of my knowledge). Sikhism is a beautiful religion, iv'e seen the priciples behind it and i like it - i wish to become one myself, but... I want to know if it's possible to become a Sikh. My backround is native aboriginal - over here we call them indians (another mispelled race). Anyways, that's what i want to know. Please take time to ask questions on me and my background and give me some feedback or replies. -Darcy Starr
  16. I watched a program on the history channel on the massacre at the golden temple. What was the India government thinking. They should just let the Sikhs have there own country...
