  1. I understand the need for couples to be on the same page in gurmat spirituality. But thats idealistic wish not always realistic or karamic feasible(we all born with different karams). Enforcing amrit on the spouse who is not yet ready is not only be damaging to your relationship but also not right (as we believe ultimately in surrender to Satguru via love not by fear mongering unlike many muslims) and hindrance to your own gurmat spiritual journey. Gurmat way would be live by example of gurmukh who lets truth-sat-gyan take center stage of their being and have gurmukh jevan speak and reflect for itself which automatically draw others into marg by love not fear. Awakened love of Gurmukh is of like magnet, just by its mere presence it will draw all needles close by in very naturally, automatically, spontaneously. But unfortunately instead of taking inspiration from gurmukh examples, we rather strategize and play all these silly, pity, enforcement, strategize games which not only fails but have adverse affect on people and puts off people all together.
  2. I totally agree with above posts of veers..According to my understanding, sikhi neither supports raw patriarchy model nor raw western feminism model. Sikhi is neutral and above both, as gurmat functions/ operates flows from unconditioned knowledge-awareness/gyan which exist in both male and female but beyond both perception of body/sexes differences, soul is universal is above from both sexes. Coming back to post Guru's history though, in all fairness, women in our community went through a lot. Sikh women went from centers (maniya system) established* for them by our Guru's in guru's time to house wives. *There were manji system (centers establishment where gursikhs were chosen to do parchar) was started by Guru Amar das ji, they were 22 manjiya initially strategically placed everywhere in india to do parchar.   3. Depression, stress, anxiety, negative suicidal thoughts can be removed- if you don't give up and with perseverance combat them by not identifying with them. Start off with ardas to Guru maharaj ji to bless you with will power and perseverance, because without grace of vahiguru/satguru's kirpa not even one leaf can move on the tree. Everyone(even sinners of highest calibre) is born with pure portion of mind ( source of mind which is right at the starting edge of mind) which we sikhs call it surat/bibek/brahmakar unconditioned birthi- intuitive unconditioned consciousness/pure cognitive perception. So divide your mind into two- -diseased mind which is affected by five vices, depression, stress, anxiety, emotional negative suicidal thoughts -pure portion of mind-intuitive unconditioned consciousness/pure cognitive perception mind What we often do is we try to combat diseased conditioned mind with diseased conditioned mind which may only provided band aids fixes but it does not look at the root, that's why many psychologist fail to address the root cause, they provide solution to fix one problem but inadvertently create other problems as well-such as more conditioning, dependency on medication etc. So With pure portion of mind start a first phase journey which is simply witnessing the thoughts come in, let whatever thoughts (no matter how hideous) come in and whatever thought go -go..don't judge or analyze the thoughts, just simple witness as pure witness, it will take some practice so to make it easier..here are some analogies it help further or visualize: -Witness the thoughts visualize-thoughts being clouds-appearing/disappearing on its own accord , it does not matter to you because you are the sky which has pure vantage view (pure unconditioned intuitive cognitive consciousness-achal thoughtless surat) in which thoughts come in and out as clouds, you have pure vantage to witness your thoughts not matter how big and scary clouds are, it cannot touch you as you can always see them below, they are below you. - Imagine you are in the middle of road- each thought is car trying to hit you, drag you with it. Imagine how painful it is being hit by each car (thought) which is dragging you all the way, what you do ? do you fight with a speedy car coming at you? No..you simply get on a side of road, move away and witness the thoughts(in form of car) travelling in and out of road-your view and ultimately ignore them by abiding in your consciousness(surat)...after a while car-lethal weapon (thoughts) will loose its influence on you as you will start witnessing them and not getting hit by them and eventually you will also transcendent witness stage as well in straight in abidance in already available inner state we all have already in our pure universal portion of mind which is achal moraat (pure motionless stillness-afor-thoughtless awareness) universal being at the point Guru's kirpa will unfold itself and guide you further. Anyway, your main focus should be to disidentify with your negative thoughts, but since you are at it, you might as well try to understand thoughts structure how transient they are and illusory they are, disidentify with them all together with pure universal portion of mind (pure unconditioned intuitive cognitive consciousness), and don't worry about right actions and rights speech, trying to figure how to do naam jaap since everything comes from there, this unconditioned pure intuitive cognitive consciousness will guide you further how to do naam jaap, gurbani patt, right speech, right actions very naturally and spontaneously.

In seen surat(consciousness which is facing towards sargun-seen), outside sangat is needed, but to surat(which is facing or drawn inwards or introvert) sangat is form of intuitve divine guidance consciouness within. When one surat is facing inwards and introvert, one is never lonely but alone. There is big difference between alone and lonely. Alone-ONE is whole premises of gurmat sidhant as its one and only one-Ikongkar only.

As far as i know- -Bhai sahib ji is doing all of this full time..He is only doing parchar..thats his work. - Sikh missionary or previous organizations are only have specific skill set and set ideological driven which blocks the full eagle view of the panth. He seems to speak from full eagle view-vantage point in the panth which is more beneficial to all, compare to specific skill set organization doing it which has limited boundaries. - He has recently start doing parchar in india-delhi, which is huge success..it was received with great reception by all..hope parchar goes punjab where its most needed as well. - Awareness campaign of who sikhs are and what sikhism believe in to spread awareness/parchar to everyone.

    I guess bigger question, are we doing nitnem as sense of duty only as once its done-we totally forget about contents of five panj banis through out the whole day, and off to other things in our life..if that a case then we have inadvertenly turned nitneem into dogma. I am sorry to say. Once again to clarify doing nitneem is NOT a dogma but our perception/our mindset behind it of doing nitneem for sake of doing it/superficially without looking into deeply is dogma. I guess serious bhagti way of looking at this would be do five nitnem banis listen to it or do it and most importantly do vichar/ contemplate on five banis through out the day and live accordingly based on gyan of panj banis (whatever portion or quotes from nitneem resonates with you on deep profound level) through out the whole day. Doing nitneem panj banis is not a joke its profound (ultimate truth remembrance) by one to start one's day which is so profound that effect of that should absorb you in back drop through out whole day which does not necessarily block our worldly duties but rather five banis absorbs one to the point, one start functioning through them or operate through gyan of panj banis. We don't have to start from something big, after doing or listening panj banis....always do simple self reflection..we should ask ourselves..which lines or quotes from panj banis resonated with us today(different quotes will resonate with us different day-as gurbani anubhav parkash is endless ocean) and deeply inquire more about it...start from japji sahib...do and listen to japji sahib then pause for moment, take a step back and ask ourselves which line/quote from japji sahib most resonated with us today, followed by jaap sahib, savaie, chapuai sahib, anand sahib go deep, deep...deeply inquire and listen deeply (sunaie has very important significance as listed in japji sahib suanaie pauri) just by listening- ਸੁਣਿਐ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ Suṇi▫ai lāgai sahj ḏẖi▫ān. By Listening-intuitively one spontaneously starts to meditate/contemplate deeply. In this way, one becomes more open and receptive towards inner divine guidance/intuitive divine wisdom guidance/satguru(pure true consciouness) which is always unfolding, and its infinite ..satguru always doing bachan bilas with everyone everytime even here and now via gurbani but unfortunately we are to busy with our own chatter, conceptual intellectual ideas and mind conditioning.

Our real self- unconditioned soul does not born and does not die, its ajooni-Jot saroop its one with God already its god light which is already in all of us its unconditioned, universal, pure intuitive consciousness or awareness (chaitan divine wisdom awakened surat). However, it looks like what you talking about here is conditioned soul which takes birth and dies due to ignorance of its source, its relative in nature, always subjected to time, karam reincarnation, samsara(suffering-karam) Whole purpose of human life is meet god(go back to our source), break egoic conditioning of our conditioned mind/soul by going back to its source- Man tu jot saroop hai , apna mool painchain - O mind you are you light/pure Jot -pure awareness light/ infinite ocean of knowledge, recognize yourself.   8. Its not a rule written on a stone that amritdhari cannot wed non amritdhari (if they are not ready yet) exceptions are made on case by case basis. All these rigid rules came with tat khalsa reformist movement. I have listened to recording divan of sant waryam singh ratwara sahib clearly mentioned few years ago(i will try to find that divan) it wasn't that extreme in the past couples were asked if they were both ready if singh alone said he was ready and quesiton was asked to singhani- if she was ready. if she responded-she wasn't ready for amrit- then simple discourse was given by panj pyares to bibi to be sehajdhari-japji sahib nitnem/basic rehit and full amrit was given to singh alone.

I am not staunchly rigidly against depiction of Guru Maharaj in charitar kari (Art form) whether be it in form of movie, art, picture etc if we must then as long as Guru maharaj - knights-bhramgyani sant mahapursh khalsa is director because only bhramgyani who is totally aware and realized all three forms of Satguru can truly depict/represent Guru maharaj in all three forms equally especially Satguru nanak Nirgun parbhram parmeshvar nirankar nirgun form which remains always as undescribed, unfathomable, anubhav parkash(spontaneous effortless infinite bhramgyan knowledge) as mentioned in Jaap sahib. Off course any bhramgyani cannot claim in the movie that this is it 100% it will be and only meant to be as "humble attempt''. Off course overall current standards does not do full justice, its not only this directors fault only its whole sub artistic culture who have good intentions but inadvertently devoid of true gurmat knowledge. I would take good things from movie but put rest as pinch of salt put it under same category as thousands of pictures of Satguru sahib in all eleven forms floating around which inadvertently depraving Satguru its own all three forms in its totality and at the same time hopefully panj pyares can start awareness campaign to do parchar of Satguru forms (Sargun,Nirgun Nirankar) to all including misguided picture artist, painters, directors.   10. Don't just read it conceptually, but contemplate deeply on it, ask questions while reading how does it relate to my experience- lots of questions and answers already in japji sahib. Satguru talks to everyone all the time, its just we are busy with our conditioned mind-metal noise, be quiet and listen(sunaie)- ਸੁਣਿਐ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ Suṇi▫ai lāgai sahj ḏẖi▫ān. By Listening-intuitively one spontaneously starts to meditate/contemplate deeply. For example- kiv sachi-aaraa ho-ee-ai kiv koorhai tutai paal How then can one be purified? How can one throw away the falsehood? hukam rajaa-ee chalnaa naanak likhi-aa naal Says Nanak, By Abiding by the Command of God, which is written along with everyone! Here Satguru nanak dev ji is saying hakum rajaie chalna nanak likiya naal. According to my understanding, answer which is given here is -One has to look beyond conditioned mind and get attuned with their inner intuition within/intuitively listen with one consciousness/intellect (surat) -Hakum-divine will of God/absolute reality which is always unfolding-always happening right at this moment. So on a person level, whats hakum always unfolding for you or how does this relate to you in your experience? You have to listen with your unconditioned consciousness-surti for guidance directly from inner Guru-Satguru within. It essentially our intrinsic deepest spiritual impulse getting drawn to God-absolute truth or aspects of it as part of spiritual development, all contributing in our going back to our source.

You came to right place regarding your concerns following human master. -Sikhi is one unique dharma where it challenges one particular point of view or mindset of mandatory needed of human master. It does not totally reject the concept being in society of teachers to learn as it talks about benefits sant parsad, sadh sangat- soceity of saints- masters all to encourage one go to introvert as overall ultimately-Satguru is within all of us- it challenges conventional prevalent view based on dogmatic cultural/conceptual notions that one must need physical human master. What sikhi provides is beyond human master which is direct link with God/ Satguru (nirgun roop) which is in shabad form within/inner shabad gyan- satguru (true consciousness) within in all of us via manifested form of Satguru guidance ( Sargun roop-Visible form of God-Sri guru granth sahib ji)- It's direct link between seeker and within seeker pure God's divine alive functioning light-knowledge-Satguru- inner guiding force. In order to access or abide within within all of us that pure God's divine alive functioning light-knowledge- Satguru (nirgun roop) inner bani-naam- inner guiding force...sikhs read manifested form satguru- sri guru granth sahib (visible Sargun roop of Guru) to break one's egoic conditioning- go introvert and explore divine within, and with Gurparsad (grace of true guru manifested/unmanifested within) merges in absolute truth. There is secret indication what buddha is saying, its statement to avoid people making mountains of conceptual philosophies/ideas about truth which impedes one own spirituality as opposed to living the truth and experience it for yourself as this is sad reality of humanity. Most people reside in comfort of conceptual ideas about the truth-egoistic mind conditioning as false sense of security instead of taking truth inside and let the truth does its work. There are similarities- absolute truth, grace always happening we need to study more deeper to get list of similarities- If you want to learn about nirvana read buddhist heart sutra which tries to explain ultimate non dual reality/realization,- Gate, Gate, Paragate, Para Sam gate Bodhi svaha. It talks about absolute reality- emptiness is form, form is emptiness always being always becoming can be experienced by buddha nature (pure awareness enlightened being). However since there are many interpretations of it via many school of thoughts, its not very clear as one can easily confuse or caught up empty awakeness/pure awareness as void-half transcendental awakening etc etc. Absolute reality/truth is defined in Sikh Mool mantra(Root Mantra) is very clear and pristine: Ik Oankar - One universal Eternal Absolute unchanged Awareness Being-Light-Knowledge- God- all in one, one in all- embodiment of stillness awareness, expressing itself in its movement - creating, preserving and changing creation spontaneously effortlessly. Which is Satnam- Eternal Truth Pure Existence Kartapurkh- Creative consciousness Nirbhauo- No fear- fearless as there is only one in all, all in one- fear from what? There is NO other. Ikoankar is all, all is ikoankar Nirvair- No enemy of anyone- since its only one in all, all in one, there is no enemy. Akaal Moorat- Timeless Being which is one being in all, all in one- One-JOT-Light-pure knowledge form. Ajooni- Unborn non dual pure awareness being all in one, one in all. Gurparsad- Pure consciousness/awareness bliss is realized by grace of true Guru-Satguru-sargun-manifested Guru in form of sri guru granth sahib/ invisible alive SatGuru within all- bestowed grace. For every sikh, reading gurbani, contemplating on it, practising is quite important because gurbani breaks sikh-seeker egoistic conditioning, pre conceived notions/ideology/mindset if seeker allows- ALIVE GURBANI (ALIVE DIVINE BEING KNOWLEDGE) to take center stage of being let truth gurbani do its work, most of times its egoic conditioning pretends they are reading gurbani (ocean of bliss) however they are anyalizing ocean of gurbani from off shore rather being in it. For example there is a famous story in our history where gurbani is used as medicine as analogy to show dogmatic notion for patient- where one groups of sikhs are shown doing gargles of medicine instead of taking it all in and other group is shown taking it all in one having full affect of gurbani. In Sikh dharma, reading-Contemplation, kirtan, meditation are not in clash courses with each other they all can be incorporated whatever one is drawn too. They all can provided great divine insight, naam awakening inside as naam which is integral focus in sikh dharma where interpretation of naam can be grasped at many different levels depending on the spiritual maturity of the aspirant. Not Sikhism but on many levels more than handful areas of sikh community definitely has fallen prey because of Victorian abhramic notions. Guru and Waheguru are same. There is only Guru/God. There won't be any other. Ultimate Guru is inner One God/ Guru within all of us as all pervading God, thats what Sri guru granth sahib ji is manifested personal Guru visible form is referring to (Sargun personal manifested guru is referring to its impersonal nirgun form). There is no duality as such- SGGS is personified manifested Guru form of non manifested non confined non dual Shabad Guru/Satguru-true consciousness/awareness within all of us which is alive never born and dies-Vaho Vaho Bani Nirankar Hai ||.   12. It will take quite bit of awareness campaign to make gurdwara environment from modern day to traditional learning-adapting gurmat- gurdwara dharam like sample one below- jawaadi taksal. So do what you can do your part for awareness campaign to gurdwara to adapt traditional style learning but also do self reflection as well... take outside distractions as test for our own sikhi -if your mind is in inner turmoil or not..take it as test and self improve yourself For eg- if outside flashy dress can easily affect our own inner mind or state of mind in sikhi then problem ultimately lies in ourselves- in our inner jevan- how feeble our inner sikhi/avastha really is. Real Gursikh/Gurmukh state of mind is so dissolved/consumed/stilled in alive shabad jot consciousness that whole world can destroy in front of them in blink of eye they will not even have small wave/ripple in inner state of mind which is absolutely dissolved in absolute unfathomable pure ocean of shabad stillness awareness bliss.

  14. Not sure about contents in exam but thats what i heard from gurmukh who spent time in taksal and nirmal akharas in the past not sure if they still follow this criteria. This japji sahib teeka is rare gem it wasn't given out to vidyarates right away as you need some level of knowledge to read it let alone grasp the contents of it. It's quite deep as its japji sahib in question and answers form between sidhas and Satguru nanak dev ji, sikhs and Satguru nanak dev ji. The problem is with our rigid mindset that we are trying to box gurbani into technicalities, divide gurbani into naam and patt and then try to turn that into black and white rules. What is naam simran? It's remembrance of Guru, shabad dhun, shabad gyan-truth without any technicalities in utter innocence love/pure earnestness/yearning. Some technicalities-vidhi-dridh/inquiry helps as pointer but the main point itself- its what pointer is pointing towards. It's true whole gurbani is naam simran roop but its also true specific gurmantar/mool mantar is also naam simran. So naam simran is remembrance of Vahiguru-Guru maharaj-sargun saroop parkash, shabad dhun, gurbani gyan-bhramgyan-truth Akaal ustat talks about many rigid mindset, technicalities how they all failed and declares only pure love, yearning will get you there which is pure change in one's perception how seeker perceive. It has everything to do with how seeker perceive/feel (change in perception) and has very little to do with technicalities (whether simran on naam-gurmantar/gurbani is superior or not). It's the feeling/perception of seeker (if spiritual deep impulse yearning/truth yearning/love yearning is there or not) who is doing it, thats remains the main focus Gurbani speaks to all seekers- ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ गउड़ी महला ५ ॥ Ga▫oṛī mėhlā 5. Gauree, Fifth Mehl: ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਕੀਆ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥ नेत्र प्रगासु कीआ गुरदेव ॥ Neṯar pargās kī▫ā gurḏev. The Divine Guru has opened his eyes. ਭਰਮ ਗਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਈ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ भरम गए पूरन भई सेव ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Bẖaram ga▫e pūran bẖa▫ī sev. ||1|| rahā▫o. Doubt has been dispelled; my service has been successful. ||1||Pause|| For example- Above gurbani tukh speaks to all aspirants/devotees- -Blind person can do simran with gurbani truth above with full faith, devotion, love can get eye sight back - Pure innocent sargun upasakh devotee of our Guru sahib also do simran with gurbani truth above have partakh sargun darshan of guru sahib. - Devotee with faith, devotion, love can also contemplate on gurbani truth above have his third eye open, leading to dasam dwar opening and transcedent in their spirituality - Devotee with faith, devotion, love can also contemplate on gurbani truth with perception of pure knowledge/oneness, and have his real self JOT- gyan parkash awakened. Ultimately, its quite simple- Gurbani is ALIVE JAGAD JOT(Shabad gyan roop) in live experience and timeless- which is in all of us, always here and eternal- either we let it consume us by being completely empty-innocence love (yet dead while live-conditioned mind die before you die) and let it take our centre being let ALIVE JAGAD jot operate or wear shield- conditioned mindset, egoic mindset, mindset with technicalities- wrap our head around with more and more conceptual technicality
  18. At least these people slowly making progress, atleast they are not fighting in darbar infront of sri guru granth sahib ji and having police officers coming in with their shoes on. Hopefully their new year resolution for next year would be to make even more high progress- take up dispute outside of gurdwara parking lot in their own backyard of each other homes- instead of dragging whole local sikh community into their silly tribal fights.

  20. I wouldn't judge him that quickly, looks like its lack of parchar from our side.. its institutionalized failure with our wider community mindset which thinks sikhi only political movement- religious-cultural than religious-spiritual.
  21. This would not have occurred, if many in sikh community actually follows sikhi which is religious-spiritual not cultural-religious. Had he been introduced to meditation (which helps connect us or identify with our real deeper self-OUR ATMA jot saroop) by his parents in the early age. He wouldn't have- a) Strong urge to cut his hair which he felt he was pressurized by his parents for religious-cultural reasons. Had he been given spiritual 101 reasons to keep his hair which everyone of us can relate to ( unbroken current/liv- cosmic bliss/shabad dhun going through rom rom hair in our body/dasam dwar on top of head where jora is tied) along with inspiring religious stories of our guru's and shaheeds he wouldn't have never cut his hair because he can related to it on deep spiritual level rather than relating to on religious cultural level which he may nor may not be drawn to. As they say- cultural-religious is somebody else experience which one may or may not can relate to, religious-spiritual is one own experience (gurmat divine experience shown by our guru's and saints and those inspiring stories encouraging others -they can experience such bliss too). b). He wouldn't have strong homosexual tendencies if early meditation/naam simran was introduced because naam simran quits the mind, makes those sticky strong emotional thoughts very lucid flow, not powerful. Naam simran at early ages, makes one identity not with their thoughts (many people beleive they think what they are, they think they are their thoughts) but rather inner consciousness -gur-chaitan-consciousness mukh-mouth/identify which automatically raises one's perception above from identifying with this whole petty sexual orientation tendencies (straight/homosexual)

The problem is corruption/caste/group tribal politics have crept too much in our sikh panth that we have just lost directions have no sense of prioritizing our duties, failed to see overall big picture for betterment of the panth. We totally misunderstood concept of Piri* in Miri-Piri. We definitely have to raise bar and work together on common causes leaving our minor differences aside. I mean amount of small stuff we fight over is so so so petty- Outsiders laugh at us. Sarbat khalsa should create different levels of threat our panths faces/risk management etc so public can understand gravity of suitations panth faces. They should create an criteria different level of threats(extreme high, high, medium low)/ criticality level panth faces based on that prioritize our response. For example- when it comes to outside conversion scholarly/ideology attacks then this should be declared under extreme high threat and at that point everyone should comes together as one unit/team use all our energies to mitigate that threat. Human already have natural instinct to work together for example if earth quake hits town or city, everyone works together even person-friend and foe-extreme enemy of someone works together as it affects both. So first we need to realize gravity of a problem, relate to it, acknowledge the shortcoming then work together. It's doable with lot of awareness campaign from pind to pind and with lot of hard work, we need leaders who have obsession with truth, integrity, honesty, obsession with outcome/output results/bigger results. we need people who can put their differences/egos aside and say look i m willing to work with you as team as panth is facing more bigger problems-external threats.
