  1. Tuesday, 28 October 2008 Sikh Organisation for Prisoner Welfare Who are we? The Sikh Organisation for Prisoner Welfare (SOPW) is a registered charity which was founded in 2008. It is run by volunteers and supported by people from all walks of life who are passionate about prisoner welfare, specifically in South Asia. SOPW is operated by UK based professionals with extensive management and governance experience. Why? Being Sikhs, we have a moral duty to help those in need, in particular prisoners of conscience. Our historic connection with South Asia, its increasing importance on the world scene and the fact that a quarter of humanity lives there makes it even more important that those suffering hardship in jail for their religious and political views are given hope by relieving some of their hardship. What is our objective? The relief of need, hardship, poverty and sickness among prisoners and detainees in any part of the world, whilst acting within the tenets and doctrines of Sikhism. How we are doing this? * Meeting basic material, spiritual and psychological needs * Providing legal support/case management, where certain criteria are met * Raising awareness amongst the wider public of this issue How you can help? Giving a donation of just £20 a month will allow us to provide enough support for one prisoner's basic human needs for one month in South Asia. Please print off and sign the standing order form, Click here for the standing order form. Web site design www.prisonerwelfare.com email: info@prisonerwelfare.com Registered Charity No. 1125370

  4. where ever guru ji goes, the whole complex becomes a gurdwara. a gurdwara has ethics, principlas and a code of morals. in a hotel people have sex, drink, eat meat etc. plus the family who wants the wedding brings maharaj and chucks guru ji out so they can get on wid there party. its all for there convience and no regards to the respect of guru ji. do we get the king to come and see us or should we go the gurdwara and get the kings blessings. this is messed up, no respect at all. where is our sikhi going? this is a problem for all sikhs not a campaign group, it is weight on all our shoulders. play ur part or get ripped apart when u see dharam raj u papuuusss
  5. In every Gurudwara there are Ramals in a basket for people to cover their heads. But one thing we look past is the fact that a lot of these ramals have the khanda and Gurbani on them. People put them on their greasy heads and then when finished; they take them off and dash them in the basket. Is this holding Gurbani in high regards and value? A lot of people also keep them (personal ramals) in their back jean pocket and sit on Gurbani (in the car) on their way to the Gurdwara etc. If you think about this, it is a great disrespect to Gurbani; which is the key to salvation. We got more respect for money, we lock it up in safes etc. We dont dash money away do we? We have replaced the ramals in our local Gurdwara with plain ramals and cremated the ramals with Gurbani or the Khanda. It does not take much effort, if you have any love for Gurbani you would do the same. We call out for all sangat to make a change in their local gurdwara. Speak to the committee if you have to. Are you going to become a ramal soulja and help sort this out? • Write a letter to or have a meeting with your Gurdwara committee. • Get some plain ramals made and replace them with all the Gurbani ones in your local Gurdwara. • Put this leaflet in the Gurdwara. "Bani Guru Guru Hai Bani Vich Bani Amrit Saare' The Word, the Bani is Guru, and Guru is the Bani. Within the Bani, the Ambrosial Nectar is contained. Ang 982 Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

  17. Spirit vinegar is distilled before the acetification process has finished and contains a small amount of alcohol which changes the flavor dimension of the vinegar. First, just so you know, the only type of alcohol in anything that you would ever put in your mouth is ethanol, CH3CH2OH. When bacteria ferment they create one of two possibilities, ethanol CH3CH2OH, or acetic acid, CH3COOH. Acetic acid is a more oxidized form of ethanol. Ethanol is what you want if you're making wine, beer, liquor, etc. Acetic acid is what gives all vinegars their distinct taste, and the simplest of all vinegars would be a ~3% solution of acetic acid. Most vinegars contain additional flavor components. Any acetic acid in an alcoholic drink however would make it bad, since it has a very strong flavor. In spirit vinegar, the fermentation process is stopped before the bacteria have completely converted all the ethanol (which is always found in very small amounts anyway) into acetic acid. Whereas even a small amount of acetic acid in alcoholic beverages would completely ruin the flavor, the small amount of alcohol left over in spirit vinegar enhances the flavor in some people's opinions. If you are asking this question on a practical "I want to get drunk" level. The answer is that drinking spirit vinegar would be just about the stupidest way to get drunk. The percentage of alcohol is miniscule, and you would probably have to drink gallons of vinegar to get drunk from it. Alot of heinz products contain spirit vinegar, the beans and kethcup etc Cheese is made by coagulating milk to give curds which are then separated from the liquid, whey, after which they can be processed and matured to produce a wide variety of cheeses. Milk is coagulated by the addition of rennet. The active ingredient of rennet is the enzyme, chymosin (also known as rennin). The usual source of rennet is the stomach of slaughtered newly-born calves. Vegetarian cheeses are manufactured using rennet from either fungal or bacterial sources. Advances in genetic engineering processes means they may now also be made using chymosin produced by genetically altered micro-organisms. Vegetarian Cheeses These contain the words “suitable for vegetarians” on the packing” Vegetarian cheeses are made with rennets of non-animal origin. In the past, fig leaves, melon, wild thistle and safflower have all supplied plant rennets for cheese making. However, most widely available vegetarian cheeses are made using rennet produced by fermentation of the fungus Mucor miehei. Vegetarian cheese may also be made using a rennet from the bacteria Bacillus subtilis or Bacillus prodigiosum.
  18. Guru Gobind Singh is my general, and he will never tell the panth to fight an unjust war. Britian invaded iraq and made it a worse country then before. It was all for oil, why work for a corrupt ungodly army for greed etc. They are causing pain and suffering to the iraqi people, ask all the mums who have lost little kids and little kids who have no limbs etc due to the british bombing their land. Life is hell in iraq all due to US and UK. if they wanted sadam they could have got him in many other ways.
  19. the british army and royal navy invade poor countries and kill innocents and u bring them to a gurdwara and want our youth to join in their genocides. Thier used to be a time when the khalsa army stood against oppressors and injustices, now we want to join them.
  20. think realistic, a lil kid in school cant take care of a dumalla, if it comes off in activity or has a fight. There might be non one that knows how to tie one. so he would have to walk around unitl his mummy comes to tie his dumalla again. patka is easier to handle. i reckon as soon as u get beard cuming change to dumalla
  21. The Sikh Unit team have put together a Cd compiling of songs from their older albums, the new CD is called "A spark Of reality" This Cd is aimed at bringing awarenees to college and university Sikh girls of the dangers they face. It has got some true stories in it , and shows how lives have been devastated due to being too careless. They also have a dig and diss the Apnis that have no honour! A must listen to cd. I located the tunes from someones profile i came across and have decided to put them up here. If you could put them on cd and give them out or just foward the link that would be wikid seva. link to view CD: http://frontlinepunjabiyouth.blogspot.com/...reality-cd.html

  23. Just got the email informing me of the last SIkh Unit Album. Sikh Unit 4- The Last Wordz, Dedicated to Shaheed Harpreet Kaur Who Is Shaheed Harpreet Kaur By mid-1992, the Indian Police in Punjab had lost all sense of morality and considered human rights to be a joke. On June 25, 1992, 15-year-old Harpreet Kaur RaNo was stopped while riding her bicycle in Amritsar’s Ghio Mandi. Harpreet Kaur was very interested in the Sikh struggle and used to consider the Sikh fighters her brothers. When the newspaper would print a notice about the Shahidi and bhog of a Sikh fighter, she would cut out their picture and keep it in her purse. The police decided to search her purse. When the pictures were found, the excuse to arrest this young Sikh girl was found and she was taken directly to the famous torture center at BR Model School in Amritsar. She was put in the custody of Thanedar Darshan Lal who punished Harpreet Kaur for her “crime”. In that dark torture center, only Vahiguru knows what suffering and brutality Harpreet Kaur faced. Despite her family’s best efforts to free her, the newspapers reported that Harpreet Kaur along with 3 other “terrorists” had been killed on June 27, 1992 near Sultanvind. Her body was not given to the family. The family went to the cremation grounds at Durgiana Mandir and in one pile of ashes, Harpreet Kaur’s sister recognized a kaRa. The two sisters used to wear identical KaRas and the ashes were recognized as Harpreet Kaur’s. No justice was ever expected or delivered for this cold-blooded murder. Comments from Sikh Unit We put our heart and soul expressing our pain and worries on many albums. We have called it a day. Sikh Unit 4 will be the last you hear from the Sikh Unit team. Thanks to everyone who supported us and showed us love. We hope that the youngsters follow up and keep producing music to engage the Sikh views. Take care everyone, nuff respect 2 you all, love you all. Hope you enjoy Sikh Unit 4. Link for the album: http://sikhkhalistan.com/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,8/
