  6. Just wanted to say that this is not necessarily a problem for the developers of a particular distro, this is a software layer and personally I would suggest that you only ask such questions if the distro concerned has a list for parallel/beowulf/hpc/etc issues? Also don't forget that getting such codes to work is probably going to involve some admin work if the nodes haven't been set up as such before. ie remote logins (go with rsh if it's on a secure private network), distributed user lists (eg NIS or vi /etc/passwd on each node), shared home areas (NFS), scratch space? You'll get more luck on specialised lists. But if you're a fairly decent admin already then non of this should be an issue. This is where clusters distro's make life easier for ppl getting started they deal with many of these issues for you.
  7. Hmm well I guess I might be able to help (but not been very active on forums lately due to other stuff). I run several unix based clusters (linux, solaris and tru64) and many of my research colleagues work in the field of parallel systems. MPI is probably a good way to go, also give PVM a go. However there are factors to consider - is your software latency dependent or have high bandwidth requirements; if so then the interconnect (in this case ethernet) might not be suitable. Many clusters use specialised interconnects (SCI, myrinet, quadrics etc) to deal with these issues. However if your code is embarrasingly parallel (is it FLOSS code?) then ethernet might work. To check it out - get your self a simple cluster distro - ie oscar or rocks and install that - or just install MPICH (free implementation of MPI) on your existing distro and if your software has the appropriate calls then it should just work. Famous last words! You might have a learning curve ahead of you. If I can help - PM me and I'll drop you my email address - but I'm apologise in advance and say that I am currently swamped - but will try to help is I can. The best thing as always in these matters (well you're a unix/linux user afterall) is to just do it and see what happens. Also have a look at the beowulf (a form of linux cluster) mailing list where many many knowledgeable folks hang out - but read archives before posting :-)
  8. Will catch up with you offline. Have a number of ideas that I'd like to discuss. Gurfateh
  9. Isn't there an Akhara in South Shields? They took part in the last Yudh Tornament at Holla Moholla. Or are they the ones who have "pulled" out? Have a look on http://www.khalsapanth.co.uk/Venues&Classes.htm for others that might be able to help. What's the show for? When? etc? Just so that ppl can see if they could meet your dates. Gurfateh
  10. Erm some cake for me please ;-) Op Sher Singh is GO ;-)
  11. Part of the final speech - delivered before the Widow Colony trailer was played: "Brothers and sisters, it is only 21 years ago that much of this happened; and today many of our youngsters are more aware of the latest movie stars antics than they are about our own history. This is not their fault; they need to be informed and in my experience once informed they feel the sense of injustices that we have suffered as much as anyone who lived through those periods. We need to continue to raise awareness of our history; we need to continue the fight for injustice and we need to continue to battle to bring to justice those responsible for these henious crimes. That is why events such as today are so important; that is why we need to continue with similar events and that is why we will shall never forget 1984."
  12. Final geek shot - I promise no more! These are the displays that showed the various input and outputs; in full flow all the monitors were showing different images. We had 2 laptops, with vids, presentations , etc; there was also the DVD player and once the camera man started recording that was also up on a monitor. Learnt one hell of a lot yesterday. KS (YS Derby) - you're a star! As was GK. Red screen in the middle (TX) is what ever was currently up on the big screen outside. If I sound like a little kid - it's cuz I am!

  16. Totally, seeing the pictures of such greats up on a giant screen was amazing. The picture I posted earlier that were taken of Nelson Column from afar with a big screen at the bottom; with Sant Ji on them - love 'em. There were a few technical hitches yesterday; the loss of sound midway through two video clips; we're not sure why as I have checked the clips out again and they are fine. But for any mistakes that were made Bhul chuk marfi karni. Gurfateh
