Someone told me (sorry hearsay) That we place two dastars because the muslims forbid non moslems to wear a turban so Guru Gobind Singh bettered this by asking us to wear two..ie Keski and dastar.

Thank you chatanga. i have noticed a lot of Gurmut Sangeet Raagis wear it too. I just wondered why there aren't much Sikhs wearing this style and is it because to avoid any confusion etc.

Just a quick question to the Sangat, In many of the pictures I have seen portraying Guru Nanak Dev Ji his dastar looks like the style many Namdhari or Kookas wear today. My question is does anybody know more about why it is portrayed this way and whether it is suitable to tie in this way in Sikhi or are you likely to get questioned about it. I apologise if I have created offence in some way and none is intended.

Let's face it how many bugs get in out flour? I think the point is to do everything to the best of our ability. I have to say that i have seen a few sikhs eating geletinous sweets unwittingly, not only is it eating meat but could also likely be halal meat!!! I don't think we should turn a blind eye to such things. There is a lovely book I have sen at some of the local Gurdwaras called 'Why Kill A Chicken' by Bhai Joginder Singh Talwara. If you haven't read it its really worth doing so.

You could always just look for the Vegetarian Society / Vegan Society logo on products. Products these days are tampered quite a bit with why not use it as an incentive to make as many stuff up from scratch...much healthier to mind and body. In the UK as far as margarine goes Vitelite and Pure are free of animal products completely. If your ever concerned its quite easy to steer clear from such things with a few seconds to spare...leave it to the experts and look for the logo.

Seriously hate to use a cliche but really lets not be reactive but instead be active. You can let the whole thing descend into complete chaos or you can find postive ways to move forward and solve it.

The point is that throughout history there have been scapegoats. The Jewish community in Germany. Please don't condemn an entire people due to the actions of a few people. I abhor rape and i will not publish what i think should be a suitable punishment. We need to look to our Guru for answers and nowhere else. do not put your trust in allies who really don'f give a care about Sikhi because it will come back to bite you! That story stinks of sensationalism. Hinduism up 43% I assume that a fair percentage of that is due to Hare Krishna figures? Think we get a slightly better picture from Census figures to be blunt. Just look at the headline its there to scare its core readership probably.

Just relax, be yourself and get on with life. As previously said people can pick up on desperation and lack of confidence in seconds. Get on with living and have faith in Guru Ji.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Wales85. I'm also Welsh and started to go to Gurdwara last October. Through the generousity of the Sangat at Manchester they hold lessons at Gurdwara and were happy for me to sit in to learn. It's a bit of slow progress and you have to get over the fact that its mainly children, who are excellent learners, and in many ways the teachers. Do they have similar lessons at your Gurdwara? You would be amazed how much the Sangat is willing to help with offers of lessons and or books. Otherwise there's some pretty cheap and useful guides on auction sites that have helped me too. You have the advantage of a Punjabi speaking partner! A real blessing!
