  2. Sant Baba Attar Singh ji Mastuana Sahib: "Rasna naal naam simran, akaal purkh di ustat karni chahidi hai ate is rasna naal kise nu bura-bhala nahin kehna chahida ya vvar-sraap nahin dena chahida" "Jadon langar sanjha ho jawega, odon shanti vas jawegi ate desh sukhi vasega" "Sareer shamshaan ghat ate mann bhagwaan de ghaat le ke jana hai" "Deewan vich Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji di hajoori vich behas, mubahsa/khichotaan nahin karni chahidi" "Bhaane vich rehna ate hukum manana hi gursikhi hai. Jo akaal purkh kar reha hai, oh theek hai. Usdi raza vich hi sukh hai"
  3. I am sorry for your experience, hope you have a better one, if there's any "next time" and we do have a free health care to some extent, but have to pay taxes as everyone else does.
  4. It's all different situations. Parents are responsible when they do not play the part they are supposed to in their early age. When they don't spend enough time with their kids, their own spiritual life is zero. They are after money and partying and complain afterwards and blame children. Dhan ne oh parents jo apne bacheya nu is raste paunde ne te ona nu spirituality te gursikhi da environment dinde ne, jehrha ona di zindgi da mudh banh da. I am not denying childrens responsibilities, once they are grown up. Both have to play their roles. But the Parents are to go first, as they give birth to child who doesn't know anything at all. We can't blame children for their upbringing. But thinking ke toronto ch bache vigarh jaange te UK vich nahin, is not true. Karama de anusar saareyan nu fal milda, chahe jithe marji raho. "Jaisi sangat, taisi rangat" All I am saying is Parents should do their best and leave the rest to Guru sahib.
  5. It's not about blaming parents, but about their responsibility and important part they play in childrens lives.
  6. ^^ its parents responsibility to teach them gursikhi as much as they can, jina chir oh ona di sunde ne. And then do ardas to Guru sahib, you take care of them. Like this, their base is sikhi and they have created good karams in their early age, which will benefit them in future. They have sown sikhi in their soul, same will they reap at the end. Parents should do their part and then leave it onto Guru sahib. Dukh Sukh is part of life. Everybody has to pay for their karam and lekhe. Some pays them as "suli", others "sool". Nobody is perfectly happy on this earth. "Nanak dukhiya sabh sansar" be it Toronto or UK.
  7. ^^^ there are more examples, where the children are so much into sikhi that parents are actually scared of and stopping them to go to Gurdwara. Then there are weekly Gurmukhi learning, santheya and harmonium and Jorhi learning classes in Gurdwaras. And children spend mostly all of their holiday in Gurdwara, like it's their home. And most house that I know have the harmonium and jorhi and the children do keertan when there are paths in houses. Then there's Khalsa school, where there are classes of , punjabi, Gurbani and vaja-jorhi learning, like any other must-have subjects and one student from school do ardas every morning in Gurdwara. They are made to "kanth" bani in their gurbani class and teacher listens to path from every students. And the credit goes to the parents who chose this for their kids. But at the end, vice and virtue go hand in hand, as earlier said, it's all on Parents.
  8. @ topic wearing improper dresses (evoking kaam) to Gurudwara is not right, it attracts the attention of sangat (both men n women), even the person doing katha keertan gets distracted. Not everyone sitting in the Gurdwara has higher spiritual level and control over "panj chor". Old ladies will start talking, others will keep staring at them. It distrupts the whole atmosphere. Parents, specially mothers are responsible to get their daughters learn the difference between Gurudwara and other places and how to dress up sensibly. And men and women both have their individual code of conduct of decent wearing, should not compare the dressing sense with each other. In old days, when a woman used to have bear head (nanga sir, without duppata), she was considered as a widow.
  9. Sant Baba Gurdev Singh ji Nanaksarwale:- "Maa bache si sabhton pehli guru hai, oh jis tara da chahe bache nu bana sakdi hai." "Mother is the first teacher of child, she can make the child what she wants"
  10. It's not always like that. One of my very close family moved from UK to Canada, the kids grew up here, speak and understand punjabi and do rehras sahib everyday, even if somebody is visiting them. and now their daughter is getting married to an amritdhari guy and it's an arranged marriage without any pressure. Both are soft spoken, humble and religious. So it's all upto parents. Mother is the first teacher of her child.
  11. Edmonton/Calgary side is more affected by extreme winter, Toronto is bearable.
  12. It's immigration strike, started since April, immigration officers and workers to walk out and quit working completely from canadian embassies in China, India etc in 15 countires, starting today, July 29th 2013. It was a rotating strike prior to this, but due to their disagreement on the demands, PAFSO warned CDN govt of the consequences, still both parties couldn't get at any negotiable deal last week and now all the process of CDN immigration, which include all kind of - spousal, visitor, student visas etc stopped completely. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/index.asp http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/72303-update-pafso-canadian-immigration-strike/#entry588713
  13. Strike is going on for an indefinite period....so get an update on it before making plans.....people are having hard time even getting an emergency visa
  14. Whenever they make you, just pretend that you are about to throw up
  15. Withdrawal Monday of services at 15 of Canada’s largest visa processing centres abroad. It started from April, was a rotating strike, starting today strike fully in effect. http://www.rcinet.ca/en/2013/07/26/government-and-diplomats-discussions-on-binding-arbitration-fall-apart/
  16. to add it's night till11.59 pm and day starts with amritwela at 12.00 am. Sant mahapurkh do not need to sleep like us for hours. Their sleep is completed in just one or more blinks of eye (literally). And they want to remain "abhed" with akaal purkh ji, so for us its dark and time to sleep, but sleep and time doesn't matter them. Sant baba Harnam Singh ji Rampurkherha did bachan in "Se Kinehya" there was one time (when awastha reaches a certain point) when he would just blink couple of times, and would be done with sleep and mind and body get rid of the tiredness and becomes fresh. pehle pehar sansari jaage, dooje pehar bhogi, teeje pehar chor/thug jaagan, chauthe pehar jogi (somebody please correct this) - Sant Sujan Singh ji, keertaniye of Dhan Dhan Baba Nand Singh Ji waheguru bhul chuk maaf
  17. Lucky enough to be born in a sikh family, but unfortunately that's why never took it seriously from heart (jiwein asaani/free di mili cheez di kadar nahi hundi) until I came across Bhai Sahib Bhai Veer Singh ji's "Satwant Kaur" novel, that left me astonished for days and further readings and listening to katha, keertan, sant jeewans benefitted.....still long long way to go.......never ever thought sikhi is soooo deep........May Guru sahib bless everyone with the love and strength to walk on HiS path
  18. I know one punjabi girl in our acquaintance married a muslim guy. She was born and brought up in Canada, so was pretty western in her dressing sense....but for her wedding she shopped for burkas, and long, full sleeves suits.......
  19. Mehtab veerji, if you don't mind, please share how you opted to go for sikhi, what were the situations, you had to go through etc? (sorry for being off topic)
  20. waheguru ji...everyone experience this now and then..........read "anand sahib" bani as much as you can.....or listen to it, mann lage na lage...just do it....it'll give "anand" and peace to your soul.. listen to this for now....very soothing....
  21. well .... it's upto you.....you are doing ardas to guru sahib......... I heard this in one of Sant Sujan Singh ji's deewan , keertaniye of Dhan Dhan Baba Nand Singh ji - "if ever in doubt.....go to Guru sahib, do ardas ke mein paapi haan, eni matt nahin ke sahi faisla kar sakaa, tusin nirna karke daso" (now please don't start doing nindeya here, nahin manana na mano, tuhadi marji - (no offence) and I do fully agree with that and have implied this in my life and I am happy with the decisions I got, not really what I desired, may be opposite..but benefitted me at the end.......kise kolon slaahan lain ton better hai apne Guru nu pusho...... this is all I have to say....... Guru bhalla kare
  22. It's because some of us think that Amrit sanchar is the destination, and don't bother or forget or are ignorant of doing "naam kamai"
