  1. I think Veer ji is right there is only 1 event to be at next week. I will try to get to Grays. If I can't be there I will be praying for my brothers. It can't be nice to have to see meat and jack daniels being served in a Gurdwara connected building. I think maybe the Sangat could do some Simran/Kirtan there.
  2. I actually meant Kirtan Programmes. But shouldn't that be in the General Section? Might get more attention.
  3. Wandering whether there are any programmes on 16th October?

The eyes of the world are on Delhi as it gears up to host the Commonwealth Games and activists fear poor people are being forced to leave because they send out the wrong image. Shanty towns across the city have been razed to the ground. Some are deemed too close to venues while others have been demolished to make way for car parks and road improvement schemes. Shivani Chaudry from the Housing And Land Rights Network said: "Mega events like the Commonwealth Games act as powerful symbols for city's vying for the global tag. "But to host these events cities require extensive stretches of land in prime locations. Clearing these causes significant displacement of poor communities." Municipal Corporation of Delhi workers sit on a pavement outside the Commonwealth Games athletes village in New Delhi Tired municipal workers sitting on the pavement outside the athletes' village Sri Ram lived with his family in a poor settlement which had stood on the banks of a canal near the Nehhru Stadium for over 35 years. Then suddenly the bulldozers were ordered in and in just a few hours hundreds of homes were reduced to rubble. A multi-story car park now stands on the site. They want to first criminalise the poor people and them make them invisible. It's very worrying that officials can think and talk like this. Shivani Chaudry, Housing And Land Rights Network The residents say they were offered no alternative housing or compensation. Ram, a 46-year-old street vendor, said: "For us the Commonwealth Games mean nothing. They have destroyed our homes and livelihoods. "The bulldozers came in one day and we had no time to even salvage our belongings. They just attacked us and destroyed everything. "I will have to rebuild my life. We just want these games to be over so we can carry on with our lives." View of Commonwealth Games accommodation India's image has been tarnished by the state of the athletes' accomodation A United Nations report claims up to 400,000 people in Delhi have been forced from their homes in the last three years. Shivani Chaudry claimed: "These evictions are carried out under the guise of city beautification and urban renewal measures to create a 'world class city'." Chaudry also alleges senior Delhi officials are on record as saying "Indians are used to seeing beggars but Westerners are not". He added: "They want to first criminalise the poor people and them make them invisible. It's very worrying that officials can think and talk like this."
  5. If i was indian i would wish the earth would open up and swallow me.
  6. Good luck to you guys. Hope you can represent us Sikhs.
  7. LONDON: India and the United Kingdom here on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on matters of road transport, highways and related services. The Minister for Road Transport and Highways Kamal Nath signed the MOU on behalf of India while the Secretary of State for Transport Philip Hammond signed on UK's behalf. I think Phillip Hammond needs to be educated on this issue. Maybe it should be pointed out to Mr Hammond that a certain bridge just collapsed in Delhi. Not sure whether consulting Indians about roads and related services is a good idea.
  8. It was about time they aired something on the issue. Credit where credit is due. But they took 2 calls on a live phone in. 1 from Norway and 1 from Amrik Singh Federation!!!! Sikh channel and its lovely national council need to approach the Gurdwaras with halls. Oh sorry forgot the council is made up of comittees with these halls. At least they wont have to get up off those lovely couches. I am always bemused by our elders. They love telling stories and tales about their own life. I guess this is what all old people do. Hence no youth and no progress. Our elders including the panelists are all the same. They will bat around the issue. Never get to the point. The panelists just went round in circles. They kept saying these halls were built when they came over from india like back in the 70's or something. So why are new halls popping up this year? And good luck trying to teach Gurmat to the sharabi kababi who put all his life savings and time into building a hall 10miles down the road. He has been waiting for you to come along and change his jeevan. He going to tell you where to go. It was interesting how the panelists came to life at the end of the show. After the presenter brought up the issue of their lovely national council. Suddenly they were urging comittees to come forward and send 1 member each, and how it wont be taken over by any jathebandi, and how important urgent the council is, and we must do this and do that.
  9. Please don't get so defensive. I was merely trying to establish facts. Well i guess coming on here and bringing up the Harbhajan mann thing is a bit ridiculous...considering we were all probably about 10 then
  10. Sounds like a great event.
  11. KhiviKaur ji are you part of the comittee? or a daughter of a comittee member? In future please inform the Sangat of concerts or kabadi events taking place. I was not aware of Harbhajan Mann concert. Did you try to stop this? Just wanted to clarify the authenticity of your comments.
  12. Interesting how quickly 'Guruvah' spat his/her dummy. Didn't really take a lot. First he/she posts in this thread and then says i didn't name any individuals....wait for it ....next he/she are attacking an individual. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw bricks at other peoples houses. Mods: Close this thread or delete negative posts. I think this topic has been discussed before many times.
  13. For Sangats information the following Gurdwaras stopped allowing partys with alcohol, meat and tobacco. This was done with Sangat efforts and over the last 3 years. The Jathedar at the time Vedanti wrote a letter directly to help stop 1 of these halls. This shows it does work. And these halls can all close if Sangat wants. Well done to these Gurdwaras for doing the right thing. The Sikh Temple 192 Chapeltown Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS7 3JT Ramgharia Gurdwara Woodland Avenue, Slough, Berkshire SL1 3BU Guru Nanak Gurdwara Well Lane, Wednesfield, Wolverhampton, West Midlands WV11 1XT ALL 3 OF THE ABOVE HALLS HAVE STOPPED THE MANMAT.
