  1. Shabad 1 This shabad is amazing!! Thanks paaji! prabh jeeo dhaevahu dharasan aapanaa jith dtaadtee thripathaavai || O Dear Lord God, please bless Your minstrel with the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, that I might be satisfied and fulfilled.
  2. The pictures are brilliant Jagroop Singh paaji! Thanks so much! Well worth the wait! :TH:
  3. I heard on Panjab Radio this morning that many Sikhs in Pakistan have lost their businesses to the earthquake and have started to come to Gurdwara Sahib Panja Sahib for shelter. They leave behind areas that have no food or water supplies. Waheguru. thumaree saran thumaaree aasaa thum hee sajan suhaelae || I seek Your Sanctuary - You are my only hope. You are my companion, and my best friend.
  4. Thanks paaji - this is great! Everyone download this one for sure! :TH:
  5. Thanks paaji. Shame they have left already - that is quite a flying visit!
  6. I heard that Sant Anup Singh Una Sahib Wale were at a programme in Hounslow in memory of Bhai Sant Singh Ji Maskeen.
  7. Fantastic - it sounds like great quality to me! panji you need some discreet headphones!
  8. Manbiro Singh paaji, I better add my GCSEs were a few years back now! You're right though A levels were tough (so was uni!), actually back in my day GCSE were alot harder also
  9. Manbiro Paaji (btw, great name!), I went through the same situation but, at an even earlier age. It was during GCSEs and my mates would be doing stuff outside of school. My family is quite strict and they didn't think it right that I wonder around town. I started making excuses to them, like I have to go home, I have to do this, blah, blah... They used to get mad that I have stopped hanging out with them, I felt bad and left out. Basically we drifted and I started concentrating more on my studies, which with Waheguru's kirpa paid off I was well chuffed with my GCSEs while unfortunately my mates didn't do too well. Also, by this time they had adopted more manmukhi habits. Looking back, I'm glad that my family made me stop hanging with them. You're lucky though and more siana than I was. You know yourself that is wrong to partcipate in their activities and they respect you for that - my freinds didn't!. Hopefully you will get closer freinds who share similar values to yourself, if not make the most of it and put extra effort into your studies so that you can choose which Uni to go. By choosing a good Uni with good Sikh soc, you are guaranteed to make great friends who will help you on your Sikhi path and not deter you. I know it's difficult, but talking from experience, you won't regret it! :TH:

  12. I never really cheched that post out because I thought it was about how to find a husband lol. Anyway, Heera Singh do you remember the moment in your life when you first realized "there is a God". 123277[/snapback] lol! see that's why you should read the thread! Don't judge a book by the cover! This has made me think. Firstly, I would say Untitled Singh, that I don't think that there can be a "wrong" reason to get into Sikhi. Guru Maharaj has blessed us with Sikhi - that is a HUGE kirpa, there is no other path like it and blessed are those have found it. Those of us born into Sikhi must have done some awesome Karam in a previous life. Bhai Rama Singh Ji was born into a Hindu family and had to do some serious searching to find Satguru Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. I think your reasons i.e '84 and 9/11 show that you must have had pyar for Sikhi, it just hadn't been ignited (can't think of better word!), I mean lots of people heard about effect of '84 and 9/11, but not everyone turned to Sikhi! Only if! When did I realise there is a God? umm, can't remember first time, but numerous occasions have made me realise that Waheguru really does look after us all the time. We just don't know it. My personal examples may sound trivial so I'll spare everyone the boredom! Waheguru has a plan in place for us and we can't do anything to avoid it. hukam rajaaee chalanaa naanak likhiaa naal ||1|| O Nanak, it is written that you shall obey the Hukam of His Command, and walk in the Way of His Will. ||1|| That thought and realisation makes me realise that God is closer to us than we think.... doooorrrooooorrooooroo!
  13. You have had some great advice above already, I'll just add my two cents. Nothing is more powerful than Ardas to Waheguru - so do it! Go to Guru Ji, Siri Guru Granth Sahib Je Maharaj and pray for your family to be kept in chardi kala (high spirits). birathhee kadhae n hovee jan kee aradhaas || The prayer of the Lord's humble servant is never offered in vain. Secondly, do try and get some professional help. I appreciate that people may find this akward but you have to try. Search the web for some helplines. These people are helping those affected with depression all the time - they should be able to give some advice. rogee kaa prabh kha(n)ddahu rog || God eradicates the disease from the diseased person. read this shabad on http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=4098 I think it's great that you are concerned for the well being for your family but there's no use in you getting worried about things that are out of your control - everything is in Waheguru's hands. We do as he hukams (commands). So keep Waheguru close to heart - do simran Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru as much as you can! Try and expose your family to Gurbani as much as possible - such as a CD, one of the Sikh radio stations if you are in UK, doing simran yourself etc. Get your family to go the Gurdwara - they will get darshan of Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji and his pyari sangat. Guru Ang Sang! Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  14. That's great! Congrats to Jaspal Singh! Once again we see how beautiful the Sikhi roop given to us by Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji is. :T:
  15. Can't wait, should be good! Especially as it seems they are reducing Gurbani coverage on Alpha Punjabi. Also Rehras Sahib path is much earlier than before - I think it was before 5pm (GMT) the other day. I like it when transmission started at 4pm and finished at 6.30pm. I don't understand why they are reducing Gurbani coverage coz I'm sure that's why 99% subscribe to the channel. 9am there used to be Shabad Gurbani which was great esp when they had English translation subtitles. Instead it's more bhangra programmes Now, I'm getting gusa I think I'm gonna email them and complain right now!
  16. That is funny! I also feel, ummm, , when constantly being asked for a "light" - or as one Chinese person recently asked "a fire" for his cigarrete!
  17. Has to be said that ALL you Canadians are a funny bunch!! I've noticed it with my cousins too Must be sthg to do with those water dispensing machine things you guys have in your homes?! (what is that about!!) But ur Kirtan is unreal! Fateh Kanadians!
  18. Bibi Sukhmani Kaur -Gurasikhaa kee har dhoorr dhaehi Khãlsã ji, Japman Singh - Viah Hoa Mere Babula, is amazing! All of the samagam is amazing! Wish I was there
  19. Ohhps sorry, I didn't realise that there a few Guru Ghars in UK that have this in place - that's great! I sincerely hope this trend spreads but at the same time I do think it's great when I see mona youth helping in distribution seva. If they are told they can't they may feel dejected especially if they are new to Sikhi. I think it's a real tough decision. Of course we should practice the rehitname, how can we deviate from from puraatan maryada? I sometimes worry though that in doing so young aspiring Sikhs may be alienated. Khalsa Camp was a great example where you had to be in Bana to do Kirtan, or sit at taabia but anyone was welomed and encouraged to do seva in the langar. Ultimately, I agree that we should stick with puraaatan maryada and if we do so, Guru sahib will do kirpa themeselves.
  20. So what time scale would make you feel more confident paaji? I think the "army guy" based it on the description as per Dasam Granth - reference to seven mountains being one thing. Surely, by the same argument you would question the location of most historial Gurdwaras, most of which were built after Guru Sahib's charan blessed the places.
  21. Tarunjeet Singh paaji, I would say the percentage is even higher! To my knowledge the only western Gurdwara that would abide by this rehitnama by Bhai Nand Lal Ji is Gurdwara Tapoban Sahib. Btw I'm not saying that we should ignore this rehitnama . Of course, it would be great if Gurdwaras could not only follow this in distribution but also in preparation. Unfortunately there is a massive shortage of pyaree rehitvaan Gursikh who could enable this rehit to be fulfilled in Western Gurdwara. Waheguru kirpa karan and may this shortage be fulfilled Southall Guru ghars are prime example, they have langar running all day, every day with Guru Sahibs grace  Often they make a call out for sevadaars to help with parshaadia di seva during peak times. If they announced "amritdhari sevadars only" then perhaps the langar queue would get even longer! I think it's great when young kids are helping with seva also - it gets them involved, they enjoy it, they are listening to Gurbani or at least are being exposed to it. Then the rest of it is upto paras kala of Gurbani. Many Gurdwara's do abide by the rehitnama when it comes to distribution of Karah Parshad AFTER ardas. However, that rule then becomes relaxed during the rest of the day. Being a manmukh, I'm not Amrit Dhari yet and so I feel bit uncomfortable distibuting parshaad but wouldn't think twice distributing langar. Am I inconsistent?
  22. You can't dismiss Hemkunt Sahib as being myth just because it took so long to find. As far as I am aware no one else actively sort the place out. The Bhai Sahib who did assist in locating Hemkunt Sahib was in the Army and so did much travelling. When he felt that the place matches the description that Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji gives in Dasam Granth, other scholars were consulted. Just because Egyptian tombs and artifacts are being uncovered today dosen't mean that it's myth and not real. :T:
