Theres a differnce between the fan and the Chaur Sahib. Anyone can switch a fan on but hows that True Seva? Reasoning behind Chaur Sahib: In old India, when the king or other supreme authority held a public audience, a horsetail whisk ('chaur') was always waved over/around him; it was done to show respect. This practice continues to day when Sikhs hold Gurdwara: they wave the chaur over the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. Siri Guru Granth Sahib is the Supreme Guru of the Sikhs, and during Gurdwara we wave the chaur to show respect. But how is putting a fan on doing Seva? Anyone can put a fan on dor the Siri Guru Granth Sahib- even a self-willed person , but not everyone will have a chance to wave the chaur and not everyone will have the humbleness (ie self-willed people) to stand up infront of everyone in the Gurudwara and do seva for the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. The fan is for ppl when its too hot but waving the chaur is for respect. THERES A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO. Please forgive-for anything i said wrong or hurt anyone. Sikhi's got History in krah prasad with the prophets IE Guru Nanak told one of his followers to give it to some ppl who came asking food to him who never had teeth (to test him) so he told one his folowrs to get the nearserst ingrediants available-which is why we do Krah Prasaad in the Gurdwara today. Whereas Aarti hasnt got no history in Sikhi with the prophets so why do it? Why do something what the Hindus done for worshipping thier Gods but why do it for Phrophets when we worship God through abstract form. But i disagree with you when talkin about dangers of Islam and society and when you said thats Islam new cancer of the west. Islams really all about peace- BUT abviously some muslims are not true muslims who are preaching radicalism n trying "to reach conversion targets". Yeah i do agree that Children do need to understand thiers ppl out there who do this kind of stuff but you cant just blame it all on the islamic society. N in His Gurdwara its got the Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji n everything like a normal Gurdwara. But in the front of the Gurdwara its got a Murti of a God -dunno which one (Hanging above the entrance) . N a Ekonkar symbol and Khanda on the sides- and the Gurdwara ppl ring bells n everything infront of it- N they do that babas aarti too (i herd about the aarti from a cousin coz she was saying the aarti was good) N inside the Gurdwara in one of the Rooms its got pictures of Shiv and other Gods-been there cuple of years ago. N try to explain to them what your feeling and what youll go through no matter what happens. IE if you leave the guy or if you leave your parents or if you marry the person of thier choice. N the best thing to do is ask your parents whats the differneces between the castes- n try show them what the Gurbani tells them about castes that it doesnt really exsist. N maybe give real examples of differnt Sikh castes marrying each other n try to show how differnt religious ppl have got married into Sikh families- to show them that it isnt bad getting married in a differnt caste. I live in the North of UK, its reallly the same here too but i guess i havent asked for info on Sikhi in the Gurdwara but i think i would rather not ask about Sikhi to anyone. But i prefer to have texts such as books there for us to refer to in the Gurdwara n if i dont understand something in the text it will be the next thing to ask the pi. But then again theres also no punjabi learning classes here either, -nor can i read Gurmukhi which is another problem. N theres no scripts in Roman-English for us to read the Siri Guru Granth Sahib with english translation either in the Gurdwara . Although i got a Roman-English script at home but theres no translation in English-for me to understand. N all the things that ive learnt about Sikhi is mainly on the net n i heard a few Saakhis on tape (in the car) but i dont understand them much -only bits n bobs -lol my punjabi isnt that good but its ok- but i cant understand the complicated words. But the problem learning Sikhi on the net is that some sites are misleading which i think i know the difference now between them. Thats why Guru Nanak and the rest of the Gurus restricted the worship of Images because they are manmade and the Murti's are man made so thats not true worship of the Lord. So it does make sense not to do aarti. N i think the reason why we do do aarti in that Gurdwara could be because im not sure of the year either 1971 and 1984 Hindus put murtis in the Golden Temple or in one of the Gurdwaras around that Complex - trying mix Sikhi with Hinduism. And i guess before the Sikhs took them out the arti Hindu ritual must of been left. N evidence of Hindus want to mix Sikhi with Hinduism can be found becuase of the nakili Nirankaaris who put thier feet higher than the Siri Guru Granth Sahib n they started to offend Sikhi and started making aload of stuff up.
