Fateh, Does anyone know how to go about installing Gurmukhi fonts on a Nokia N95? I have Word/PowerPoint on it but not the font and so I’m wonder whether it’s possible to install on the phone. Thanks in advance. Fateh

What is wrong with half the people posting on this topic?!?! Whats with all this dont waste time on these bbc discussions etc etc? Phone in, text in and email in the basic facts regarding topics featuring Sikhs and they'll be educated on the subject. Before you start on me for saying that, this same show/presenter had Tigerstyle on the show talking about their track (Son of a Sardar) live on radio - now if they were anti Sikh or watever, do you think that would have happened? I'm getting kinda tired of some people talking about ignoring and boycotting shows etc but instead of doing that why dont you actually do something and voice your opinion? That way the world might even learn something. These young 'impressionable singhs' will only be encouraged if we go on the radio etc and say what we are about - it'll also give them food for thought regarding what to say if they get asked about their religion and what it represents. We need to stop being defensive and hiding our heads in the sand (why should we stop listening to what the world is saying about us) and get out there are voice what Sikhi is really about, tell the world about the lives we are living and how its all about walking the walk, not just talking the talk (Sikh by nature, not by name..).

Just so you all know, Singh Brothers (www.singhbrothers.com) pretty much do the same aswell - I know this as I know people who have had Senchiya shipped over to the UK from India.

Fateh all, I'm looking into purchasing a a digital slr and have had my eye on the Nikon d40 and the canon 400d (also liking the nikon d80 but its kinda steep) for a while now. I cant seem to decide which one I want to go for - so if anyone here has any experience with either of these cam's would you give me your opinion etc about them. Many Thanks.

Its a facet in Indian classical Music that ragas have certain time that they should be played. But in Sikhi terms, because you're dealing with spirituality, you cant limit emotion to timing. I ask you this: Do you have a certain time of the day when youre sad? A certain time when youre happy? No. Because what you feel cannot be tied down to a certain hour. Clear example within Guru Granth Sahib: According to Indian Classical Music and present day granthis (Im not dissing them, they teach what theyve learned), Asa Raag should be sung in the morning. Hence Asa Ki // is sung only during Amrit Vela. If that is the case, and were supposed to follow timings, then why does Asa appear in Rehras Sahib (an evening bani) ? Why does it appear in Kirtan Sohila (a night bani) ? What you feel is what you feel. Timing is not important; feeling is. Raag is not just about 'timing'. Different Raags bring our different feelings and emotions and these are lets say 'heightened' at certain times of the day. The tune and the way in which Bani is sung in the Raag prescribed to it enhances the whole experience, its not ALL about timing, in fact when a Shabad is sung in the correct Raag at the time prescribed to it, the 'feeling' you will get from it will be amazing; and I speak from experience. On a side note, you mention that there is the Raag Asa is Rehiras Sahib and Kirtan Sohila, do you snig these Bani's in the Raags prescribed to them? Emotion has not time boundary, so why should musical emotion? He is singing Gods praises in whatever way he feels is correct, just ‘cus you don’t like the clapping it doesn’t take anything away from what he is singing, its all about the message at the end of the day. You, I or anyone else can’t say how much pyaar or dedication he is singing with so why not listen to it if it works for you or don’t if it doesn’t. We all don’t have to like the same stuff you know –someone may like raag whereas another may not, I may like simple tunes whereas you may not.. Get the idea..

Gurufateh! i agree!! - i mean this is one of the reasons i dont care about this Shilpa - i mean if she has no Ejat for herself - what makes her think that bache like myself will back her when she havin a few comments thrown at her? Like i said before - people hold their own Ejat in their own hands Gurufateh! Get over the fact that this is Shilpa and look at the bigger picture. These people don't care who they treat anyone, who cares what she has done/does at the end of the day she is human - should we not have compassion for all or are we to be selective regarding who we think deserves it? Get over the fact that this situation is based around a single person (who you don't care about) imagine how you'd feel if tomorrow someone treated your mother like this simply because they deem it to be acceptable having watched it on TV. All I'm saying is look at the bigger picture, we don’t have to love someone or even agree with the way they live in order to stand up if they're being treated badly or if a situation has a potential knock on effect. Your iijat is in your own hands, you may not live life like Shilpa, but that won't stop someone from treating you like dirt will it.. I remember being in primary school and being told to ‘go back home’ and being called a ‘paki’ by kids at the age of 10 – do you really think the public won’t be influenced by this behaviour, especially when they see nothing is being done about it? I’m not saying lets all make out like we love Shilpa but everyone deserves respect.. LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE, if you don't see it then carry on doing what you are; each to their own but seems like 15'000+ people have seen it and have done something about it (though that may seem like nothing to some). Shilpa is bring treated very badly in the BB house, now I don’t care what you think about BB, the people in it or anything else. Just think about the impact this show is having on the general public/youngsters who may be watching it. They see people getting away with bullying and BB officials are doing nothing about it, they in fact say nothing bad is going on. We all know celebs are looked at as role models (whether the people in this house are celeb’s or not is another topic) but if people treating others like dirt on national TV and they get away with it, do you really think this will not have an impact on the people watching? I do not wish to debate the show in question or what anyone generally thinks about it, just have a think about the impact of the actions of these people – if tomorrow your relative if called names or treated the same way simple because someone thinks its ok to do so having watched it on TV, will you still think its nothing to worry about?

2 bodies 1 soul concept ring a bell? How can someone progress on any path if the other isn't walking along with them? You are only as fast as the slowest on your team - if your spouse isn't following the same path as you then just as you think the Amritdhari will influence them, it can also go the other way with the none Amritdhari ending up influencing the Amritdhari. As I mentioned in my earlier post, no one is above the Rehit set out by the Panj - unless some of us now think we know better than them..

Once one is blessed with Amrit its no longer about what ‘we’ think is right or wrong – once you have given your head to Guru Ji then its all about the Rehit that you have been told to live by. The Panj Piare explain the Rehit Maryada to those being blessed with Amrit. When I was blessed with Amrit I was told that I am to marry an Amritdhari. Any married person who came to be blessed was told to take Amrit with their spouse. There was for example a man at the Amrit Sanchaar who was Amritdhari and his wife was now taking Amrit and he was told to take it again aswell. An Amritdhari is not to take any jooth from anyone who isn’t also Amritdhari – martial relations involves the same concept and so the same ‘rules’ apply here. There are a lot of people who are Amritdhari who are marrying people who are not Amritdhari but this does not make it right or acceptable as I was told not to do this by the Panj Piare. As I mentioned once one is blessed with Amrit its not about what ‘we’ think is right or what we think is acceptable, if you give your head to your Guru, then walk on the path set out by your Guru. On a side note, I don’t know if all (I don’t like this term but anyway) Jatha’s/groups say that an Amritdhari is to marry an Amritdhari but that’s what I was told by the Panj Piare. ‘REHAT PIARI MUJH KO SIKH PIARE NAHE’

I’m not too sure whether that ‘discussion’ has actually resolved anything, if anything it will have put the idea that the Kirpan is potentially dangerous in the minds of many listeners - even though many people backed up why we have a Kirpan, and people like Amrik Singh who works at Heathrow have made excellent points. If you take a minute and look into a tiny bit of history you will find that Baba Puran Singh Ji was from Kericho (Kenya) and thus there are people at GNNSJ from the same and surrounding areas as these people may have known Baba Ji personally or about them.. Is there anything wrong with that? The fact that there were a lot of Ramgaria’s in Kenya/Africa means that a lot of these people will have known about Baba Ji. Mystery solved..

Instead of going on about this here why don’t you make your point to the organisers who are holding this event. Listen to what they have to say and them make up your minds. All I see is an opportunity to see this guy when he comes to Birmingham, there’s nothing more or less to it. So he’s a Hindu, so what? Let him do his thing and you get on with yours, if your health is improving by what he says them good for you and if you don’t have time for him them good for you too. How many of you have a ‘Panthic Amritdhari perfect Sikh’ doctor? You still go to him/her for treatment and that person maybe anything in their own time too. We have to stop blaming others and their beliefs for the problems we face today. If we had more strength and a stronger belief in our Sikhi and Guru Sahib Ji Maharaaj nothing anyone says will sway you. Then even the biggest conman or debater won’t be able to sway you. We need to work on making ourselves stronger so that we can face and stand up to opposing forces and not have to try and shield and hide away from other people. Guru Nanak Dev Ji travelled far and wide and debated with the best of various philosophies but as Guru Ji knew what they were on about no one was able to answer back to them. I know a lot of people will just push my post aside and continue to push on with their views and agenda’s, but I really do think its time we learn to stand up for ourselves and be able to sit in the company of others without being scared of being brainwashed (I mean that’s what half of you have against this guy). If you have faith in what you believe then no one can rock it.

The lyrics of the rest of the songs (9 others tracks) on the album may have been written by Prasoon Joshi, contact the website to let them know where the ‘lyrics’ to the Ik Onkar track by Harshdeep Kaur are from. Before assuming someone is claiming to have written it make sure the person is actually making the claim instead of it being a case of the website not providing full information or something. If it’s a mistake then all it takes is education to correct it.

Is it not the responsibility of the SGPC to make sure no beadbi is taking place? I’m sure ‘Bollywood’ actors/producers/directors can’t just turn up one day and start shooting, if shooting has been allowed then was it discussed with the SGPC, if so then if there has been any beadbi done, is that not the fault of SGPC and not the director (who may be none the wiser) etc? I believe it is up to us to educate people if they make mistakes and to educate people in advance so that mistakes need not be made. Its up to the people allowing this to take place to make sure it is done in a respectful and responsible manner – that is if it is actually respectable to allow this to happen. The example of video’s made during Anand Karaj’s are not a drama, well in some cases they are as how many people taking part really know what’s going on and are ‘genuinely performing a Sanskaar in Guru Sahib's hazoori’ but that’s a different issue in regards to this topic. I’m not implying that its ok for anyone to go around shooting films in Maharaaj’s Darbar, but if it is done and beadbi is taking place in the process, is it not the fault of the people who allowed it (i.e. SGPC) and is it not their responsibility to make sure the ‘visitors’ know about etiquette and how to act in a respectful and dignified manner? Apologises in advance for any mistakes.
