  2. Boring? No...tiring? Well, maybe :s Once we were at Gurudwara, and after the morning simran, it goes really quiet. Then my younger son ask really loud: Is it time for parshad??
  3. I received this regarding japji sahib a while ago: THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND JAPJI The Technology of the Shabd Guru In the Sikh tradition, the sound current of the songs in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib are known as the Shabd Guru. Sikhs understand the Shabd Guru not just as a collection of uplifting, inspiring words written by enlightened saints, but as the vessel of the sound current – the living Guru. By listening and experiencing this sound current one understands that those who wrote these words transcended individual identity and ego. Their words came from their unlimited exalted state of consciousness. Whenever people read, sing, chant, or listen to these songs, they connect with their own excellence and their own infinity. There is no need to confront any human external personality in this process. There is only a direct relationship with the Infinite. The Shabd Guru is a powerful technology which is universally available to anyone in any walk of life to use to uplift and transform themselves and others. Japji—The Song of the Soul Jap means to repeat and Ji means soul. The repetition of Japji gives you a consistent projection and allows you to access your own infinite source of inspiration and depth. Japji is one of the five daily prayers of the Sikhs. It was written by Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru who, with his companion, Mardana, traveled thousands of miles on foot teaching and inspiring people to live exalted and simple lives through his divine songs. Stated very clearly, "Guru Nanak spoke Japji as a way to guide and enlighten other human beings about the reality of the Divine within the visible and invisible Creation. Japji is a teacher for anyone seeking truth. The sound current of Japji and the meaning of its words, when meditated upon with openness and love, awakens a soul to its destiny. Step by step, Japji gives you the comprehensive power to know yourself as you are, and to be with God's Creation in a spirit of joyful surrender." Ek Ong Kaar Kaur Khalsa The power of Japji comes from the combination of its sounds. This is called naad Sounds have profound effects on the psyche, and when they are produced using the science of naad, they have very specific transformative power. In past Shabd Guru articles ( Aquarian Times), we have explored and discussed this transformative power and the specific practical effects of reciting different stanzas—or pauris—of Japji. Yogi Bhajan has taught that by reciting any one of these pauris eleven times a day, one can produce very specific effects. Reciting the Mool Mantra, for example, gives an experience of the depth of your soul and can change your destiny and grant prosperity. Similarly, it is said that the total knowledge of God and ecstasy is contained in the first pauri. Recitation of this pauri eleven times a day will lift you from the deepest depression, insecurity, nightmares and loss. Meditation on each of the remaining 38 verses offers an equally unique, rich, and powerful pathway of healing, self-discovery, and revelation. With the complete recitation of Japji, it is said that every problem can be solved and dissolved. The structure of Japji is beautifully technical and precise. There are 40 pauris. The word pauri means 'step.' Japji is actually a spiritual staircase. Yogi Bhajan has stated that Japji starts from God and comes to earth. There are five elements or tattvas of which all matter is composed—earth, air, fire, water, and ether. Additionally, there are eight chakras (including the aura.) Mathematically, five times eight equals forty—the number of pauris in Japji. When you take the first 'step' of reciting the Mool Mantra, this is associated with the eighth chakra at the frequency of ether. As you continue to recite, you work progressively through the chakras and the tattvas until you end at the 40th step with the first chakra at the frequency of earth. In this way, reading the entire Japji completely adjusts "all the elements in all of the chakras as well as your subtle and physical bodies." - Dev Soroop Kaur Khalsa Aquarian Times 2003 *************************************************** Japji sahib is the first morning prayer of the Sikhs, here is the breakdown of it .....really beautiful ..read on ...... The Mul Mantra is a fate killer. It removes the fate and changes the destiny to complete prosperity. The first pauri is an antidote to depression. It will lift you from the deepest depression, insecurity, nightmares and loss. The second pauri imparts patience and stability. The third pauri transforms insufficiency, turns depression into elevation and transforms low self-esteem into complete self confidence. The fourth pauri blesses those trapped in feelings of poverty and lack of means. It blasts through the trap of these feelings like a thunderbolt from the blue. The fifth pauri must be recited when you feel a sense of failure within yourself. When you feel that you are not up to the job this pauri will grant you all success. The sixth pauri dispels limitation. Recite it when you feel limited, cornered, trapped or coerced. When you suffer from greed, madness for power, overbearing expansionand the need to control, when you become trapped in your territoriality, the seventh pauri will heal you. The eight pauri gives the power to be a perfect sage. The ninth pauri gives expansion. The tenth pauri grants grace. The eleventh pauri gives virtuousness. When you feel small, the twelfth pauri gives you solidarity of self, self-pressiveness and self-respect. The thirteenth pauri gives you the occult knowledge of infinity. It brings deep intuition. When you cannot find your path to life, when you cannot see the direction to your destiny, when you cannot achieve fulfilment, the fourteenth pauri will show you the way. The fifteenth pauri brings liberation. The sixteenth pauri gives knowledge of the structure of the universe. The seventeenth pauri brings freedom and resurrection. The eighteenth pauri fights madness, deep feelings of inferiority and self-destructive behaviour. The nineteenth pauri brings universal knowledge, inspiration and revelation. When the monsters are nipping at your heels, the twentieth pauri wipes away all your sins. The twenty-first pauri will maintain your status, grace and position. The twenty-second pauri brings victory in legal battles. It gives you strategy. The twenty-third pauri dispels darkness and elevates the self. The twenty-fourth pauri breaks through all limitations with the force of a thunderbolt. So powerful that it affects generations, it has the power to kill misfortune. When you recite the twenty-fifth pauri all your needs become pre-fulfilled. Prosperity, virtue, estate and wealth are yours without asking. The twenty-sixth pauri transforms nothing into everything. In your business it banishes losses, misfortunes and miseries. When you are stuck and you cannot see the window of opportunity before you, the twenty-seventh pauri shows you the way. It removesobstacles and hurdles. The twenty-eighth pauri is the strongest permutation and combination of words in the world. It unites you with God. The twenty-ninth pauri is a shield of protection. It protects you from the enemies by simply vaporizing those who wish you harm. The thirtieth pauri places you upon the throne of divinity. It makes you into a sage and a saint. The thirty-first pauri pulls all virtues from the heavens. The thirty-second pauri pays your debts and completes your karma. The thirty-third pauri destroys your ego and brings home your divinity. It removes negativity, neutralises your destructive nature and prevents harm to others by your hand. The thirty-fourth pauri brings stability. The thirty-fifth pauri gives you the breadth to do your duty and fulfill your responsibility. The thirty sixth pauri brings divine realisation. It grants complete understanding of the heavens and the earth. The thirty-seventh pauri cuts the karma. It eradicates the impact of all bad karmas. The thirty-eighth pauri gives you the power to rewrite your own destiny. The Salok brings self-satisfaction, elevation, acknowledgement and respect.
  4. when my daughter was about 4yrs old, she once told me: -mom there are so many gurus in our gurudwara! to which i replied: what do you mean? where? -all the gurus wear dastaars, look here's one, there another one (she was pointing at men wearing paghri!!!!) :s ))))
  5. I have never ordered from them but when i order online it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on what it is and if they have it in stuck. Has it been long? Did you contact them and ask them? If something is shipped, and it's been a long time, they can usually track it with the shipping company.
  6. ^^^ Thank you phaji, unfortunately, i don't understand punjabi :s
  7. Could anyone tell me what are the three qualities (dispositions in another translation) In the following ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ Those who speak of the three qualities - their doubts do not depart. Their bonds are not broken, and they do not obtain liberation. The True Guru is the Bestower of liberation in this age. Those mortals who become Gurmukh give up their doubts. The celestial music wells up, when they lovingly attune their consciousness to the Lord. Those who are controlled by the three qualities have death hovering over their heads. Ang 231
  8. Ok we all pretty much agree that lying and saying untruthful stuff is slander. But the question arise when it's the truth. Could the truth be slander at times and not at other times? Maybe it depends on the intent? If your intent as in the case of the girl being engaged to an alcoholic, is to protect your friend and avoid her getting into a bad marriage, your intent isn't to do harm the reputation of the guy but protect your friend. Is it slander then? Are you better keeping silent about it? (assuming you know the guy is an alcoholic for a fact and not hear say!!!). Maybe the way the information is being said is also important: keeping the the facts, without adding anything else that is unrelated to the facts, ... However sometimes the truth can be use to get back or get even for something a person has done to us. Maybe that's the case of the car dealership?

  10. Anyone has a link to "Deg o Tegh o Fateh"?
  11. I found the following, although there is no mention of water destroying the world on sikhnet.com. It's interesting... but unfortunately there is no reference to SGGS, thus it's questionable. I was just wondering, does it say anywhere in the Guru Granth Sahib that there will be a world war 3? I heard that it said something about the world being destroyed in the Kulyug but I'm not sure ****** REPLY ******* Sat Siri Akaal-- NO. Siri Guru Granth makes NO mention of "world war 3". Any reference in SGGS (I cannot give you cites) to the 'world being destroyed' in the age of kaliyug is really a reference to a major change in the Order of things, so to speak. As a general rule, Siri Guru Granth Sahib does not prophesy or forecast specific world events. It does, however, have many references to the fact that a Gursikh's destiny is written on his or her forehead. The following is not specifically in SGGS. The planet is now entering the Aquarian Age, coming out of the Piscean Age. These ages are roughly 2000 years long. Kaliyug is much longer, but it is ending with the Piscean age. We are on the cusp of entering into an age where men do not dominate all things, but men AND WOMEN are co-equal partners, where one's approach to life will change from "tell me I want to know" to "I know, let me share with you"; from an age ruled by manipulators and powermongers to an age ruled from the heart. Whether or not you believe about the age changes, know that references to 'the world being destroyed' in SGGS are about this kind of change, not of the entire world blowing up. Guru ang sang, -DKK
  12. I'm glad Japman veerji clarified the situation. I couldn't tell the video was from a smagam, although it was said so. It could have been a birthday celebration or something similar. In any case mistakes were made. Now let's learn and move on. For those present it must have been a shock but they dealt with the situation. Good for them. I saw from my own eyes bhangra at Dixie Gurudwara once (it was a wedding). Well someone could have made a video of that too. In any case the Gianiji explained during the ceremony that it was wrong. So all i'm saying is not to do jatha bashing.

  14. Fateh veerji, how is it going with the kids at Gurudwara?

  15. Like Balait da cher ji has said, we don't know the context of it all. Plus dancing while chanting Waheguru is way better than dancing on other songs with less than desirable lyrics.
  16. I know this isn't a new thread but wow, i'm amazed... Waheguru! :WW:
  17. I would cry...really i don't even want to think about it. But on the other hand, God forbid, I would continue to educate. Why throw your kid out? Is that what Guruji would do? Does God disown us when we make a mistake or we are stubborn and we don't understand? So how could we throw a child given by God out of the house? Education and Ardas is the way to go. Just my opinion...
  18. Fateh! Gurbani tells us to "remain dead while yet alive", but what exactly does it mean? Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, remain dead while yet alive, and the Name of the Lord shall come to dwell within the mind. So abandon your selfishness, and remain dead while yet alive. Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. Remain dead while yet alive, and you shall be welcomed in the Court of the Lord. Ang 176
