  1. It was not the Bhagavad Gita but the Gobind Gita,- a translation and commentary of the Bhagavad Gita and how Maharaj saw the composition. It talks about the Khalsa warriors and the warriors in Krishnas army etc. I think they made one standard Dasam Granth because they saw what the different volumes had in common, and rejected the places they did not agree on. There is however doubt regarding the author. It starts with "Ik Oankaar Sri Waheguru ji ki fateh pahshahi 10" but the writing style seems more similiar to one of the court poets than that of Maharaj bani in akal ustat and bachitar natak etc.
  2. what does sikhi say about the enviroment?
  3. The way i see it, its one source against the other. And God knows best.
  4. Another angle of the story. A lot of traditional folk stories that was known in panjab is seen to have been attributed to the stories of the lives of our Gurus, bhagats and great gursikhs. In the book "martyrdom in the sikh tradition" the author shows how the story of a beheaded warrior who keeps on fightning was already known in panjab from a muslim warrior in the 15 century whereas the author alludes that the sikhs took this story and applied it to Baba Deep Singh. Local traditions say that kabeer was born of a virgin (Like Jesus) and the story of hindues and muslims arguing over the religion of kabir is also attributed to the cremation of Guru Nanak.. So this "copiying of stories" is quite common in panjab amongst followers of saints etc. with this in mind, please read the following page of Dasam Granth Now I prepare my own funeral pyre within your view, and sit within the fire-flames."125.352. After preparing the funeral pyre, he took bath and wore the garments of deep orange colour on his body; Many people forbade him and even fell at his feet. Giving in charity various types of ornaments and garments, the king prepared a seat within the pyre; He burnt his body with various kinds of fires, but the flames became cold instead of burning him.127.354. Then he got emerged the Yoga-fire, which was burning dreadfully; he killed himself with that fire and the people of the city continued to see that great king.129.356. the stories are not exactly the same, but they are quite similiar. Sainapat writes that Maharaj was cremated after he had given gurgaddi. Guru Gobind Singh is very much here, in the form of Guru Granth Sahib, It makes no sense at all the other Gurus were cremated and suddenly people get upset when Guru Gobind Singh was cremated. As far as i remember, Guru Tegh Bahadur performed the funeral rites of Guru Har Rai, and Guru Amardas ji maharaj has written shabads on what to at his funeral and what to do with the ashes.
  5. Aurangzeb died in 1707 and the Khalsa was born in 1699. Considering what happend in 1704 and how much inteligence there was in the mughal state at the time i do not think that the events of 1699 could have taken place without Aurangzeb knowing for 8 years... The fatehnama mentions the khalsa as well which was sent earlier than zafarnama
  6. i have never heard of parcheen sewa dasa.... who is the author
  7. According to Gurbani it was Guru Ram Dass who saved Bhagat Prahlad Suthar cẖiṯ bẖagaṯ hiṯ bẖekẖ ḏẖari▫o harnākẖas hari▫o nakẖ biḏār jī▫o. For the sake of the pure-hearted devotee Prahlaad, You took the form of the man-lion, to tear apart and destroy Harnaakhash with your claws. Page 1402, Line 16
  8. Dalip singhs book on GUru Gobind Singh confuses me, as he says that Gurbani was never given Gurgaddi yet all througout the book he says "Guru Granth Sahib". i dont know if i have misunderstood something, but i find it odd that he calls Gurbani "Guru Granth Sahib" yet says it was never given gurgaddi. Gursobha was written in 1711 and as far as i know there is nothing controversial about it. Matheen says that they never found Maharajs belongings or relics, but may i then ask you: Where is is stated that they did'n find His remainings? We have a contemporary souce that says Maharaj left his body after giving Gurgaddi to Khalsa Panth and Granth, so this is where Guru Gobind Singh is. there is nothing wrong with cremating his body if the jyot was given to Guru Granth Sahib.
  9. bijla singh ji: what youre saying makes sense ji. thank you for clearing it up
  10. Bijla Singh ji i dont think it is as simple as you say. look at what Bhai Gurdass says.. He also uses the word dui raah in context with islam and hinduism. vayt kataybaan vaachaday iku saahibu dui raah chalaaiaa| Hindus read Vedas and Muslims kaebas but the Lord is one while two ways have been devised to reach Him. Guru Nanak further says using dui rah: Page 688, Line Ėk sāhib ḏu▫e rāh vāḏ vaḏẖanḏi▫ā jī▫o. There is only the One Lord and Master, but there are two paths, by which conflict increases. Guru Nanak Dev the way i see it, is that the two paths are indian religions and semetic religions
Rāh ḏovai ik jāṇai so▫ī sijẖsī. One who recognizes that all spiritual paths lead to the One shall be emancipated.
  12. Just a quick question.. The word Granth means book, so why is it offensive to say book about Guru Granth Sahib? regarding the topic i think its nice to see such sewa being done.
  13. Wow. This is true religion, helping the needy. It sounds like a really good idea. If you buy the food in Kabul, you will be supporting the economy of Afghanistan at the same time so its definately best to buy the foods from the locals instead of sending it from UK. Also the food is cheaper in Afghanistan so you will be able to buy more from the same amount of money. Its definately a good idea,- just reading this topic made my day. I think that we as sikhs should start to follow in the footstep of our Gurus and do more to help the poor and needy. The purpose of langar was to destroy caste barriers and provide for the needy, but today it has just become a ritual "go eat after doing ardas". I hope to see much more of this in the future.
  14. comparing your kara to your kirpan by saying "would you put your kirpan in your pocket" is just BS. People fart on their kesharas, should we also say "would you fart on your kirpan" to compare??? Just put it in your dastaar, and it shoud be fine. The same way remove your keski from your head when you wash your hair...

  21. Pāṯālā pāṯāl lakẖ āgāsā āgās. There are nether worlds beneath nether worlds, and hundreds of thousands of heavenly worlds above. Oṛak oṛak bẖāl thakė vėḏ kahan ik vāṯ. The Vedas say that you can search and search for them all, until you grow weary. Vedas talk about unlimited amount of planets and worlds as they say "search for them all, until you grow weary. "
