  1. this is why I worry for all those singular repositories of all our purantan birs and books one hit and its all gone
  2. veer ji I am puzzled ...I live here in the UK and there are quite a few gurdwaras who have tried the gym , classes route but it hasn't really had much effect on falling youth participation , I am not criticising you wanting to do something to change this , it's just copying church model when it is failing massively here doesn't make that much sense . I agree kids these days want to be 'built' so the fitness and martial arts route is worth investigating but I don't know how much support it would get from committees and there is the whole insurance liability issue (in case of injuries) to think of and health and safety. If you can get a permanent person to represent that section and manage it within each gurdwara there could be better success, at the moment it is fairly ad hoc . I would love for more youth to be hands on too, good luck with your game idea it sounds like a longer time needs to be invested than other things you have thought on . I would love to have a personal Hukamnama app on my Blackberry which would have english (local) translation this would be one app that my teenagers would appreciate too and it may encourage them to turn to Guru ji when low or needing advice ...is this the kind of ideas you were thinking of ?
  3. creative is fine it's just that these games etc create nothing of substance in the minds of the players to attach or encourage the investigation of what sikhi is , which is the prime goal.
  4. mate I think this guy is seriously deluded the churches did all this and the bottom has fallen out of the congregation. Stick to parchaar methods of Guru ji's times, split areas into sub-regions and have team leaders responsible for parchaar in those areas i.e. new manjis ... sure do translations of bania into idiom of region and choose parchaarik who is familiar with area and people. Gurdwara's are pretty visible but knowledge of what the Nishaan sahib indicates people are not so sure of so leaflet drop , sure do sign boards outside with invitation to learn visible from road like evangelistic churchs may help get public's eye
  5. my point is sikh culture is not equal to punjabi culture so don't think that way
  6. you forget you can be Punjabi and be sikh but you can be sikh and not be punjabi , sikhi is not tied down to Punjabiyat it is a Universal Faith.
  7. Please guys don't fall into the trap of all muslims are the same , even Guru ji and his Khalsa recognised the difference between evil and good http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2903829/Saved-hiding-FREEZER-Thirty-Jewish-shoppers-avoided-taken-hostage-kosher-deli-shutting-cold-storage-huddling-stay-warm.html I am not Charlie , I am Guru ji's Khalsa di Dhoordh
  8. I think everyone will benefit with knowledge of both ...thank you veer ji
  9. what do you mean Veer ji I saw that the Sikh channel crew had been picked up earlier on Facebook
  10. that's exactly what I thought too ...Guru ji is the best teacher by far...
  11. AKJ or not , Panj would never seek to create divide at sanchar
  12. The magazine was struggling and was about to fail , but due to all the media now they will be stronger as they produce their first million plus copy run after so many decades ...My personal feeling is that the French Govt played the magazine staff and knew that something would occur which would make the Public easier to manage into an anti-islamic stance . My guess is that they didn't expect so many lives would lost but to win over the populace they would be willing o sacrifice those individuals. Now we can see there has been violent comeback from French ...there has been a bombing of a mosque
  13. I would say strike while the iron is hot and show what Sikhi can give these people i.e. freedom from castethe main controlling feature of their lives ...somebody should talk to Ranjit Singh at Damdami Taksal and other parchaariks who are not scared
  14. I would be hurt sure , and so are many of my muslim bretheren but violence is never the first go-to for us we give three chances as Taught to us by our Guru ji then when all means have failed then the sword is taken in hand ... did they sue the publication ...no did they protest outside their offices ..no then what methods did they try before violence
  15. If you are amritdhari ...number one question is she amritdhari if not , would she be ready to before marriage ....does she Believe in Guru ji....does know any bania ...does she sing kirtan...
  16. what I see is supermachismo of young males paired up with a culture of aggression ...I mean we went to buy fish for the little one and a group of four muslim lads trundled in and they made a beeline for the red-bellied piranha...it made me smile bcos they didn't know word one about anything but that was the only choice they wanted to get 'man I'm gonna feed them real meat' blah blah blah ... I guess they need to prove how tough they are in every sphere ... I think it must be so exhausting ...
  17. the original offence I remember was some years back , and satirists are known to go for the throat... the thing is yes both Muslims and Sikhs are not tolerant of offence on their Founders but the huge gap of time and the fact that the world's muslims didn't complain as much as they did against the scandinavian cartoon seems to make me think this was not a big deal originally and has now become one. I know this publication has a very rude, purile, irreverent take on everything they do I mean they were scatching in their critcism of Marie Antoinette even though the risks were great.
  18. the majority of christians there are catholic , and there are a sizable amount of jewish people settled , the difference being they are secure enough mentally with their beliefs to not feel so threatened by a cartoonist , I think that you should be able to cope with criticism rationally as a thinking adult.
  19. the problem is this we have been conditioned for so many decades to respects the rule of law , but also we have been told to rule over ourselves as a kaum , the two can be mutually exclusive if the law of the land is corrupt and is purely there to penalise our kaum , which it is . It is wiser to expend energy in the spheres where it will make the most difference grass roots sikhi parchaar , education for poor paid for by golak , job skills training from sikhs in the know , outside investment from sikhs to sikhs in Punjab to revolutionise agriculture to organic model to reverse poisoning of the water table , increase reliance on solar power tech...there are so many things we can do to improve Punjab and thus pull people back into the heart of Sikhi. The way I look at it , Bhai sahib has wrenched the masks away of those pretending to be humdard to sikh kaum, most of them are serving themselves as Guru ji prophecised now is the time to build up Sikh fauj and get rid of the false .
  20. Then we must become like those SInghs of that time , not relying on comforts of family and home , always tyaar bar tyaar
  21. The trouble is most people are not aware of even 1% of sikh itihaas , although if they realised that Guru Gobind Singh ji did ucharan of Jaap Sahib when he was 19 years old it would put a different complexion on things that the missionary faction are trying to spread ...
  22. The sieges are over the two shooters from the Charlie attack are dead , there has been fatalities also at another location ...looks like the cells are waking up Mi5 warning of possible British attacks http://www.itv.com/news/2015-01-08/al-qaida-terrorists-planning-mass-casualty-attacks-against-the-west-m15-boss-warns/
  23. Then we have to educate our girls to really recognise what a Sikh is like and teach them to not go looking for human love outside of marriage but rely on nourishing their souls with divine love from bani
  24. yes but at the same time veer ji you can't force Sikhi onto anyone , respect the individual's right to choose , ask to respect house rules but also not force patka if he agrees to cover head by his method ...he is doing what you are asking. Obviously he is in some trouble but we shouldn't jump to conclusions about it being his fault, just make sure he is not forced to change faith just to have a safe place to stay, otherwise there is no difference between us and the scummy missionary christians in J&K
