  1. dont think i'll watch it...what with all those topless guys...sounds like a girly film!!!! (PS..I'm a boy not girl..as many ppl get confused by the cat picture!!!! )
  2. I would agree to some extent with the first post...was there a real need to put a Siri Harminder Sahib scene in the movie? Did it gain anything? Maybe if the SPGC agreed to filming only if some of the cash went to good causes etc etc.... The bit where the guy pulls the chunni off the girl...I found that most annoying....it's a sacred place and they are playing up a little there... The hand thing isnt that important and probably getting a little too much into conspiriciry theories....I've seen many people matha dekh in different ways. The right thing would have been to have a Sikh person playing that particular role or at least show a Sikh person Matha dekhing close up..... I havent seen the film though so cant vouce for it!!!
  3. Can I just make a point here, that we instantly claim that all and everyone who go to a Ravidass Gudwara is somehow anti-Gurmat etc etc etc. There was another post like this a few weeks ago...with the usual rants and rave for and against. You can't generalise in such matters and for what it's worth...what does it matter anyway? I for one believe the general consensus that there is only ONE Guru Ji...Bhagat Ravidass is VERY COMMENDABLE...and some part of me respects him as such and would include him in my idea of a ONE GURU JI....our family goes to a Ravidass Gudwara....and whenever I go my only concern is for Maharaji. Some people, generally the OLDER generation, may place more weighting on Ravidass then on Maharaji, but that doesn't mean we should generalise and condem each and all who are of that particular 'caste'. Just like we shouldn't distinguish between the Jats and Ramgharria etc etc etc...
  4. Hands up who think we need positive action in Sikhi? I know its a werid post, but I read a thread in the closed section and it was about how we moan so much but we don't really take any action and do things about it. It's such a simple post but it says a lot, sadly it was moved to the closed section. Anyway, just a thought, maybe we should be spending more time taking action, doing positive things...not only from a Sikhi point of view, but with our own lives. However, we should start from a Sikhi point of view and try and do one thing that helps Maharaji/Another Sikhi or something that will promote Sikhi in the eyes of the world. One simple task each day. Whether its going to see Maharaji, reading a bani or listening to one at home, helping another Singh you know is on the wayward path or doing seva for Maharaji and those across the world who are less fortunate then us. Lets all try and think positively about life and not moan about problems with others and ourselves. Positive action and lots of seva will bring Maharaji closer to us.
  5. OK, first please make sure you check out the Smagam at the wonderful Guru Har Krishan Gudwara in MAnchesterm uk: http://www.gsghks.org.uk/live.htm Also, god only knows why England didnt think of sticking Monty in sooner: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/6178327.stm
  6. I really love those photos. Sadly, I'm the only Gursikh in my immediate family and I'm going get married next year (hopefully)....it would be so nice to have a wedding like those in the photos!!!!!!!!
  7. As my initial post suggested : "A bit of lighthearted humour for all you hardcore people!!!" There was no intention of a debate, the guy is plain an <banned word filter activated> for doing what he does, but it's quite funny to see him doing what he does...simple as that.....nothing more...nothing less..... Besides, if we follow your train of thought, then I'm sure all famous Sikh Bhangra dancers/singers promoting a 'glassi' is also corrupt...etc.etc.... You could even go further and claim ANY Sikh who drinks/get drunk....(you know the type....asian clubs...getting tanked up...starting fights....) but then the debate would come back to the issue of drink...and then probably meat and finally end in the thread being closed after being hijacked by so-called 'hardcore' members of the forum .... What a sad state of affair when we can't just take something at face value and laugh..rather then making it into something BIG and HUGE and 'og my God hes doing this..he's doing that'.... I for one found this guy pathetic, but quite humorous...clearly some didn't.....
  8. It makes me laugh when I see you guys going on and on about these women who love eachother. let them do what they want....if you read the BBC post, it goes into some detail of how one was abused by an alcoholic husband and the other was forced into marrage by her village....The is WHO CARES....if they are happy...let them be. Where does it say they are Sikh? We cannot justify thinking ill of them or their actions. If they are happy, let them be. We get so worked up on our views of other peoples actions but more often then not, we don't care of take a look into ourselves and see the horrid actions/thoughts we commit each second of each day. Why waste your time....spend it making yourself a better person, let people be and focus on Maharaji... [by the way the beastiality comment was WAYYYY too over the top and off topic.....its a clear example of my last paragraph above]
  9. But you see, to ME Ravidas is a Bhagat....but others would probably not view him that way. To be honest, I think most people...even the elderly, KNOW that Guru Granth Sahib Ji is THE Guru...but would probably only refer to Bhagat Ravidass as a Guru by name only but without the feeling that the title Guru bestows upon the GGSJ. This isn't the fault of a particular GROUP of people, its the problem of individuals who create that group...a group is not homogenous...its heterogenous...and the problems with the caste thing isnt just a Ravidas issue...its a whole Sikhi issue that has been created from our parents and grandparents and its really upto us as the next generation to teach our kids of the unity of man and therefore do away with this catse ideology setup by our forfathers. It's as simple as that. It's something that ISNT going to be sorted out in our generation but I'm sure eventually over time it's something WE can get rid off. But to view those followes of a particular 'group' within Sikhi as 'bad', is very much akin to the way some of us view caste and actually follow caste....enough of the discrimination and ill thought, more of the love, pyar, seva, sangat and mainly to ensure we teach our kids the true meaning of Sikhi...Ek Onkar and Ekta
  10. Seeing as many of you are making statements about Ravidas Gudware without actually having been to one, let me clear some misconception up.....seeing as I apparently fall into this f**ked up idea of a chamaar caste and caste system in general. Firslty, what is a Gudwara? The home of Maharaji.....regardless of whether the Gudware 'belongs' to a particular caste or not....you primary goal is to go and see and give your respect to Maharaji. Secondly, whilst I disagree with the use of Guru when referring to Bhagat Ravidass....the Gudware and every function of the Gudwara (Handsworth/Grove Lane) is just the same as every other Gudware..... I think the issue here is the old system of having some Gudware being run by commite (as the Grove Lane one is)....I've seen the committee....sadly lacking in Gursikhs.....and with the old system comes the old way of life...aka the caste issue. Regardless of whether a Gudware is a Ravidass or Ramgharia or Bhatra Gudwara, your only intention as a Gursikh when visiting such places is to see Maharaji. I don't think we can lay waste to all such sacred places, even if the Gudware claim to be part of particular group and we CERTAINLY shouldnt begin to critize all who go that Gudware or all who fall into these backwards caste ideas.... I for one find the Ravidass Gudware on Grove Lane reallly peaceful and I have NO problem going to ANY Gudware from any caste...as long as I get the dharshan of my Maharaji..
  11. A bit of lighthearted humour for all you hardcore people!!! And please, lets not take this out of context: http://www.aardvarkcymru.co.uk/singh.htm
  12. Thanks for the replies. It wasnt my intention to start a controvertial topic...I just wanted to get some idea of how the use of the Sant prefix came to be. I think this draws similar lines with the caste/surname issue. To ensure all are one, the Singh/Kaur system is perfect. But then call yourself a Sant or to 'encourage' it, could be viewed as against this system to 'oneness'. Granted however, I'm sure in some situations the Sant prefix is justified.
  13. How does one aquire the title Sant? Is it ordained or self-aquired?
  14. I understand the use of the surname and the problem that it causes and I also understand the use of the common Singh surname. But I think we ignore the point that the surname isn't the issue here, its the ego of the person who is born into that surname and the effect of the family of that person as he or she is growing up. To give someone a Singh surname will not automatically rid the caste problems.....its giving up the ego.... and some may argue that losing the EGO is the centre point of Sikhi and leads to mukti.
  15. Thats a rhetorical question. It's something you have to find out for yourself and then answer yourself. It means different things to different people. But then, is the effects of Sikhi (or any religion) on the human being something you can describe or is it something that should be felt and is indescribable??
  16. A bit of an aside really, but what speed is your broadband anyway? This site will rate the actualy download speed u get from broadband: http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp which depends on your distance from the local exchange. I was going to sign up for 24meg broadband in Manchester, UK...then I remember that chances are i won't get that much download anyway, so I check the maxium speed on my line...which turned out to be 5mb....but still, bittorrent downloads at inexcess of 200 k/s....so I'm not complaining!!!!
  17. Whats happened to RajTV? Seems to have been taken off the air (thank God!) I much prefer Channel Punjab anyway!!!
  18. This is probably what ur after!!! http://www.dtfbooks.com/Pages/ShowProductD...hp?pID=MTY0OQ== but I'm sure u dont have to get it....you can find LOADS of info from doing a google search!!!
  19. I'd volunteers to help...anyone interesed? Obviously it would be eaiser for some people from Glasgow/edin to sort something out but this is a great opportunity to show our support to the bhaji in his our of need...I know if that was me, I'd be really upste, scared, shocked, maybe even comtemplating leaving behind the visible signs of me being a Sikh....I dunno.....come on Sangat...lets sort something out rather then lazing around eating samosa and chai!!!!
  20. I'm sure u meant POOR boy!!! As nice as it would be to find these damned scallies, I think a show of support and maybe a vigil or march held in Edinburgh would be much much better...a show of support from ALL FAITHS, inlcuding MUSLIMS (aka the current head-scarf debate) to show that we will not allow such things to take place...its a discrace.... I hope someone is interesed in doing this, espicially the march/gathering to show our support for the poor guy and to show that we will not allow this stupidity to happen... PM if you have any plans ideas and hopefully we can organise something!!!
  21. You guys up north should organise some sort of demonstration or something to show your disgust at such actions.....start now rather then waiting for another attack like this... I feel for the poor bhaji, I hope he is ok...keep us posted Glasgow_Singh..
  22. Terrible news. It these f****ng scallies, I can't belive it. You really wouldn't think something like that could happen here in the UK...
  23. Fateh everyone... I started wearing a dastaar about a year ago. My work sometimes involves me travelling and working in different places in the UK. How do you guys deal with people looking at you...I mean to say, when you get people staring at you and your dastaar/kesh? It amuses me, when I see one guy whisper to his partner to look over at me and they both look...but it's kinda offputting too and does get to me. How do you deal with it?
  24. I was waiting for someone to go on about the Ravidas thing....we all know it shouldnt be named as such etc etc etc, thats old news and has been discussed lots on this site.....please re-read the comment, it was about any background as to the reason why it occured? There are MANY 'Bhagat'/Caste named Gudware in Brum and across the UK and I doubt it's soley because of that reason that the Gudware was burnt down....so please lets not turn this into a political debate... Anyone with any USEFUL insight into the events, I'd love to hear from you. By the way, thanks WJKK WJKF for the information!!! Less infighting/politics and more simran and love for MAHARAJI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
