Jokes aside, this forum is a microcosm of why modern day Sikhi is so fractured. We're meant to be the future generations on whose shoulders change will arrive. If anything, we're just as bad as those who've come before us. I hope there's a gupt horde of blessed Sikhs free of partisanship and ties to holy men of all denominations, lol.

Great to hear DTF and The Sikh Missionary Society UK are still going. That's oddly comforting. Many a young Sikh was introduced to the basics of Sikhi thanks to the SMSUK back in the day, so their seva and impact on Sikhs in the UK at least should not be underestimated.

Oh, that's a shame. The last time I visited DTF they had shelves full of the most beautiful hardcover books on Sikh history - in English too - as well as the usual paperbacks, religious paintings, etc. If I'm ever in that neck of the woods I'll pop in to Bina Musicals. I think the internet probably has a lot to do with the issue you identified. Back in the day books were the only way one could learn about Sikhi in the English language. Nowadays Wikipedia has all that info and more I think. But still, there's something about those DTF books that was special. There was also the Sikh Missionary* Society in... I want to say Hayes in Middlesex but I'm not sure. They were very active in printing leaflets and booklets about Sikhi in English. *I should clarify for non-Uk dwellers that the Sikh Missionary Society weren't the type of missionaries that get a bad rap today, I.E Dasam Granth Sahib issue; they were merely missionaries in the classic sense of the word.

Me too. They published "Saint Soldier" a great account of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's life, as well as many others. I think DTF is still open, but it's a shop selling books and musical instruments. I think they're out of the publishing business now. I could be wrong, I haven't been since I was 11 and went to see family in B'ham.

To my shame I wasn't aware of the controversy surrounding this Raag Mala debate. 18 - 25 is young. These aren't mythological times or even times of Guru Sahib when Sikhs of that age were the finished article. Like it or not, jathedari is going to involve a certain level of political movement. To pretend as if such a Jathedar will be able to lock himself away from the world in samadhi and make all decisions based on his bhagti is not going to happen whilst the corrupt apparatus around such an individual is in full force. In this particular age someone with kamayi AND knowledge of how to play the various vultures and hyenas that will circle such an individual is essential. A "green" young Singh who hasn't a clue about the darker side of life will be chewed up and spat out by those devious old men.
