  1. Actually he has received ALL the advice for him to change. What he now needs to go and do is put it into practice. Naamnet is highly recommended for him where he will have to commit to 20 minutes of simran and report to a high avasta Gursikh everyday. How many times has he bothered approaching the Guradwara and yet he wants Sikhi ? Sikhi is working for it, not getting others to do the hard work for you and then rolling it down the hill and coming back asking for more. If he reads his own blog daily, he will get all the advice all over again. We have our own shortcomings to work on too.
  2. After being advised to avoid pubs he felt lonely and felt its a complete waste of time. Remember? He needs a good telling off...but most important of all its only naam that can save him. Religious concepts are not abstract as he himself admits its backing off from sikhi that drove him there in the first place. He feels that the way for him is to frequent pubs and just have a meal.... and he won't fall into temptation. Your advice however mistersingh is smCk bang on the spot but the question is will he take it now without succumbing to loneliness?
  3. Don't beat yourself up. Keeping up with Sikhi is not easy. That is why it is stated to be the route which is thinner than a hair and sharper than the edge of a sword to travel on. So far you have nearly managed a month on your own - its nearly the 27th. The most important thing is that you have realised a basic truth, which can be learnt only through experience. When you go back to your old ways after time off - you will realise that there is no pleasure in them. However you need to start moving forwards or else you will always just remain there. The lesson which you have learnt is one which we keep on going through time and again through our life. For instance you are doing very well in keeping up your prayers until something minor changes in your routine and until something drastic happens to you - you simply don't realise that your routine is not there any more. Naam is pure because we keep sinning. This is one of the shabads which was written by Ravidas Ji.
  4. Welcome back simran Penji. Good to hear that you were blessed with a good experience despite all the lack of facilities.
  5. if you look back into the great plague that killed many in England - you may understand why cleanliness is important. If it were not for the great fire of London to destroy the houses of all of the filthy city of London - the rats may never have gotten rid of. We have travelled far and going back would be fatal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Plague_of_London The Great Plague killed an estimated 100,000 people, almost a quarter of London's population.
  6. So are we less fortunate - is that why we go into langar. The whole point of langar is to show you that all are equal in the eyes of God. There is no king, no ruler no ruled, no men, no women, no kids, no less fortunate, no more fortunate,. no caste no creed no high no low and all are equal. If you do not reach a state where you do not recognise that all mankind is equal - then you have not reached the perfect state of self-realisation. When you go and perform seva in the langar - it purifies your mind to realise that all human beings are equal before God. Karmi apo apni ke nerhe ke dhoor. God does not discriminate against any one - does not favour any religion - it is our actions which are going to take some nearer or further away from God.
  7. A beautiful sakhi based on the way langar was prepared for Guru Arjun Dev Ji, despite the sevadaars saman and musan had nothing to spend.
  8. Well scientifically if the aunty (or uncle) did not wash their hands - for the parshadheh then - the fire would kill the germs - before they reach you. No simran needed in this case. If she is serving the parshadheh - yes then you better keep a germ detector and inspect their hands - coz you aint following them into the toilets to see what they did. If they did not have sense of hand washing then the Guru would not have blessed them with the mat of preparing langar. Some years ago I remember my mum telling me that the loosing party at some gurdwara called in the health inspectors because ladies were doing seva with nail varnish on.
  9. Not sure if this video has been posted here but it just gave me a very good idea of the topic of devte and pret.
  10. My mum told me that once you take amrit then the Guru becomes your rakha as in he will be present with you at all times. Therefore you need to keep kachera with you at all times. Then I was reading a sakhi where a lady got possessed by a spirit. They took her to some maha purakh who advised them to not bathe without their clothes on in the nadhi as in those days they did not have private bathrooms. Hence I just added 2 and 2 together and it did make sense in the spiritual sense of things. Finally when you follow the Guru's teachings without question as Bhai Mardana did - he lifted up the cloth from the dead persons face and it was parshad. He lifted up the wet grass and did not care about his clothes and he received the Guru ship. These two incidents advise us to accept and obey the hukam without always raising questions and having doubts. Believe in Guruji as the pura Guru. Satgur mera puura. He knows everything that is why he has given us the best guidance which a parent can ever give to a child. Amrit peevo sadha chir jeevo. He wants us to live forever.
  11. Was that prophecy perhaps meaning that it is only Gods name which we should rely on as Eesaa and Mosaa will not stay there forever to guide us on to the right path? http://xwalk.ca/moses.html All that ends in the holy spirit. Now to the holy spirit. My Nanaji passed away and school was feeling very lonely. Lunchtimes were the most torturing. Therefore I decided to go sing with the Christians. This is how they prayed. They sang some songs clapping hands. Then it was prayer session. Everyone of them in the room and I mean by ALL started to talk so loud and I could not understand what they were saying. They ALL claimed to possess the holy spirit. It came over them and they all started to talk gibberish. I asked one of them and they said the holy spirit prays on their behalf to the Lord. We do not know what to say so it prays for you in a language which you do not understand. So they all prayed - and I did my japji sahib silently. If I did it aloud then it may seem to them I had the spirit too for I would be praying in a language which they never understood. They offered to pray with me if I did not have the gift of the Holy spirit - I politely declined. I believed in the same God as them but Japji sahib was enough for me to connect. Trying to understand the Holy spirit I think it may be called Naam dhi dhaat. This does happen in the sangat. I remember a clear incident of when there was raas bhareya Aarti kirtan going on with all the instruments. I was sitting completely absorbed in the kirtan when suddenly I found myself reciting Waheguru waheguru and it was like coming from a different source of power. Reading Baba Naugh Singh Ji - I understood that yes - there is something called Naam dhi dhaat. Bhai Veer singh has narrated this being experienced by someone (the main character who I dont quite remember) This may explain why people are saying - that they are doing kirtan and suddenly someone starts to recite Waheguru very loudly. The feeling can completely overcome you. The person in the book had been advised to keep his Naam dhi dhaat alive by keeping on reciting Waheguru everyday.
  12. We came alone into the world and will leave alone. However when we start to carry the burden of all - children and family on ourselves and ourselves alone then the burden gets too heavy. You need to lighten up your load by listening to some kirtan, katha in your free time. This will bring your mind in a state of where you will know that you are not alone. Slowly you will understand that the purpose of being sent to this earth is to do simran. When you start to say Waheguru as much as possible you will realise you are not alone. Your burden will be shared - and your load will get lighter and you will start to enjoy engaging in simran, path, seva and katha kirtan. Loneliness is what you start to look for then. For the world seems to be a great distraction. Think of the saints who sat alone in bhagti in the forests - they were never alone. God is always near you and around you and in you - listening to you all the time. Talk to him and tell him what you are thinking. It takes some time to get in touch with your own inner self so that you can develop that sort of state where your mind in some sort of bliss where it does not matter who is near you or not. You always have something or another to do. Listen to your shabad when you are alone. Put it on volume. The best thing - if that does not seem to be working for you is to visit the guradwara and see if it helps to be amongst other people. Engaging in some sort of seva will allow you to interact with people as well. When you feel teary its your souls way of telling you are separated from the light which has created you - you need to start to reconnect. Listen to this video.
  13. Interesting. While we are very health conscious - an incident which occurred when we visited Takhat Damdama Sahib still keep ringing in my mind. We were sitting for langar and obviously there was a crowd of other people. The sewadaar who was serving the fulke just dropped one on the floor as we know it was not tiled and did not look freshly swept either. There were swarms of flies flying onto our food and we had to keep beating our hands to keep them off. I would have assumed they may have the fulka aside and offered it to the birds later on. But no - the sewadaar told the girl - Waheguru dhi marzi and placed the fulka into her plate. She accepted quietly and ate the fulka. Obviously we should try to prepare langar and serve it in the most hygienic way possible. We belong to the advanced west. Back then - in kenya there was a wedding. So the hotel guys were sharing the kitchen with us. There was some dirty water on the floor and the floor usually is quite filthy as all go into the langer with their shoes on. This guy was spreading the patisa on a huge plate spread on the floor. He was rolling it with a rolling pin. The pin slips from his hands and falls into the filthy water. You would have assumed - he would have some sense and go and wash it before using it again. No - he picks it up and lands it right on top of the patisa. That is what our wedding guests were going to be having the next day. That is what when it remains will be carried off and sold in the hotel. Now you can understand why it is important to say Waheguru when having food. Only God knows what accidents happened when preparing it. What about the rats tail which was in the tinned tomatoes which my sis in law opened some years ago ? True langar is the one which has been prepared with simran. Whoever eats it will become drunk with jap as well. Recently when I was reading what someone had written and this was the type of langar which was getting prepared by this particular sant ji. That is the true purpose of langar - to give us the taste of the name of the Lord which gets infused into the food and water being served. We used to believe in finishing off all the water served in langar as well as it absorbs all the power of the meditation that is going on all around.
  14. As I put my saucepan on fire in the morning- I had this thought. The person who does not remember Waheguru - is the one who goes on to become a psychopath. Forgetting the Lord all your gun come to an end. Har bisrat tere gun galeya - in rehras sahib. Just like darkness is not darkness but is the absence of light. Therefore the absence of Naam is the 5 vices. Anger, greed, attachment, ego and lust. When you are not being guided by the light of Naam then you are susceptible to either one or all of these. Think of a saucepan on fire - if you leave it on the fire - it will burn itself. kal tati dhandha har nao. Kalyug is hot and the name is cold. If you keep filling it up with water it will survive on the fire. If you fill it with milk, the milk will boil over and pour. Water is Amrit. It will keep you cool. Milk is our rituals (tirath ishnaan and not Naam japna - it offers us some time in heaven but that does not last) - they boil over and still burn - offer some cool time. The water will keep boiling and evaporate so you need to keep filling it. Keep filling it with Amrit at Amrit vela. Naam, bani, simran and seva - are all going to keep your saucepan (body) full of Amrit. Going to the Guradwara to show off to others is the milk. Sitting in kirtan - with our mind elsewhere is the milk. We are at bliss but we take nothing back home. The main message just flew past. We are present there in body but not in mind. When we go back on the fire - the more the fire - the more our milk is going to boil over and pour out. i.e. someone questions us - and we are ready to defend our stance on what we think without having even listened to the message in the first place. Then we get ashamed when we are corrected - that is if we have the patience to listen. (this is when you miss a part of the katha - or you want to crititise what went on) As long as the water is there - we are cool and our environment is not under threat. When we are empty and on the fire - we will burn - spread the fire - burn the house and reduce everything around us to ashes. gunehgar lun <banned word filter activated> - we have prooved ourselves to be untrue to God - we have murdered the very soul which God has given to us - and in the process we have murdered other souls as well. ( Psychopath) (There is a line is Gurbani which says that we are susceptible to punishment if we dont take care of our souls and give them the correct food which is Naam. Will post it later when I get it) ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ सूही महला ५ ॥ Sūhī mėhlā 5. 16. When roads are blocked then buses are useless. They have managed a direct flight from Amritsar to heathrow.. took so many phone calls and emails. All routes to Delhi are blocked. 12 people were killed as a result of having been attacked by the protesters. A normal flight from chandigarh to delhi which would cost rs 4000 was sold for rs 99000 or something.
  17. There is an ongoing transport strike. My sis in law stuck and cant reach delhi. Planes are all booked and trains not operating.
  18. Waheguru never kills anyone. He just shifts souls from one body to another. The Israelites were slaved and mistreated by the Eghyptians because they did not follow the rules given to them by God. They had engaged in idol worship. Moses was born after they repented of their sins. God was now to guide them out of Egypt into freedom. In fact there were 10 plagues as well which the Egyptians had to suffer This is the same as what happened to Harnakhash. God came down as Narsingh to finish him off..
  19. taken from Naamnet 1 1.1 Relax and have drink! My colleagues at work often go to the pub at lunch time, they asked me but I don't go to places with alcohol. My Sikh friend was going with them and told me to `Relax my principles_it's only a friendly drink'. Strange how the non-sikhs respected my decision, but the Sikh was the one who didn't. So this is what I wrote to him : You said relax when I said I don't go to where there is alcohol. Shall I tell you a few stories about people who relaxed : 1) My uncle in India used to RELAX with his 'mates', one time him and his mates must have got too relaxed because he either was murdered by his mates who'd got him relaxed so they could get his money, or he had an accident but his mate was so relaxed that he couldn't even think straight enough to give him basic first aid, so he ran away and left him to die. 2) My Uncles in Canada worked day and night to make a hugely successful furniture business, they lived like kings in almost a mansion. But, they liked to RELAX and have a few drinks, turned into an addiction lead to the family business falling apart. 3) My Uncle RELAXED with his mates, then being relaxed he was too macho to be driven home by his friend's wife, so he drive himself and relaxed his way right into the back of a parked car. 4) Another uncle used to RELAX after drinking and beat his wife. 5) Some research was done to show that out of all communities in the UK, the Sikhs are the most addicted to Alcohol - and Guru ji's banned it! 6) People need to make a stand, then things slowly change. Eg so many people have stopped smoking and protested about smoking that we are sitting in a no smoking office, more and more places are becoming non-smoking.. When our boss Jerry presented wine bottles to us, there were 6 people who took it but didn't drink! He came up to me afterwards and apologised for insisting that I take the bottle even when I said I was happy without it. In addition he started thinking about other things he could give as rewards. If I had just RELAXED and taken his wine without saying anything, then nothing would change and I'd be getting wine presented to me for the rest of my days. The Turban and beard mean `No Drink Zone', it means people shouldn't even have to ask if I drink or not. It means they should know that offering a Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh Jee drink is like swearing at his mother. I don't hate anyone or look down at anyone, God is everywhere and in everyone, but my actions are important. If I go to nightclubs and pubs, wining and dining then I am saying even though I don't drink I think these places are OK. These places don't agree with Sikhi I can't agree with them either. I went to nightclubs a few times at university, I saw this really tall Sikh with an uncut beard and turban. He stood out from the crowd, I thought what the hell is he doing here, this is no place to bring the Guru's turban and beard. Then I thought hold on - what the hell am I doing here! I went to a pub after a course, during the course lectures people have self-control and discipline (like Khalsa), at the pub their dirty desires come up, they talk dirty, one man kissed all the girls goodbye - & cuddled one of them half to death. She's got a boyfriend but she didn't mind kissing someone else, and he didn't care as long as he was getting his lustful satisifaction'. They had no honour, no dignity. And all I got was a head full of dirty thoughts, a coat full of smoke smell and the feeling I'd wasted my time. I used to feel guilty about saying I don't go to the pub and used to go out of politeness to my work mates. But then this white girl didn't go either and she told people straight, she didn't even like wasting time at lunchtime talking aimlessly to people. She was training for the great Britain Olympic rowing team, she had a set diet, she was very organised and no-one was going to mess her dreams up. I thought that's right, she knows she wants: a gold medal, and she's 100% committed to getting it. I too know where I'm going - -right into Guru Nanak ji's laps, and no-one is going to steal my time or my principles. The world can hate me or love me but I've given my head to Guru ji and I'm not stepping off this path. My stand is solid. - My path is set. And by Gur Prasad may I have no regrets. Millions and millions of people come and go, I'm taking a big gamble and following Guru Nanak's shabad Guru path to the letter. So people can relax if they want and they'll get what they want deep down, but the Khalsa will never relax until they've won the ultimate Gold medal - a place at Vaahi-guroo Jee's feet and by Gur prasad we will win.
  20. So its not only Sikhism that lays importance to Amrit vela. For some reason I have recently been waking up at around midnight. In the dark - i just could not find my phone which was odd. So I just sat and said Japji and waheguru jap. Then I came across this and it sounds very interesting. http://www.deliveranceplace.com/swarfare_prayer.html
  21. Normally people have a down after a bad job but they are able to pick themselves up and get on. Unfortunately your dad seems to have been quite shatteted. You may help him by encouraging him to go to the guradwara. Hopefully it may help him heal his eelf confidence. We become what we set our minds on. If you mean crying crocodile tears he may be going through depression. Why don't you get him a book like some sakhis or Bhai rama sinhh jis book - as a gift. He needs to get his vision back and get moving on. Being lazy isn't going to help him in the long term. Get him a gym membership or encourage him to go for some swimming which can give him gentle exercise and help him recover physically. Take him out for a walk to get fresh air. Appreciate what he has done for you in the past years. Mark out to him though that you liked him better when he was active. Saying something like we should all also join you and laze around doing nothing might serve to wake him up and realise that he is not being an ideal role model. Perhaps mentioning to him that you would like to laze around in the future just like him might trudge him into action. Its your dad and you are the best judge. Talk to him in a friendly manner and mark out the harm he is inflicting on his body by not using it. Keep trying til you get what works. Put on a shabad cd or path at a particular time of the day.
  22. A puran Gursikh would never ask for raj. Guru Gobind singh ji himself says raj na chahu mukat na chahu man preet charan kamlarhe. Raj is not the ultimate goal of any sikh. Its for those still steeped in worldly desires I believe. None of the Gurus ever ruled as such yet still Guru Gobind Singh ji is refered to as Shahe shehensha the king of kings. A Gursikhs aim is to gain ultimate control over his own mind. Man jite jat jeet. This is the way you can rule over the world, by becoming one with the creator of the world himself.

  24. I read somewhere that maharaja Ranjit singh was the reincarnation of keso pandit whom Guru ji took to the top of the mountain to do Devi puja. He was sorry for his deeds and that is why he was offered raj by Guru ji.

    Black Magic

This is a powerful video with a message. Watch it and you will realise how you can actually black magic yourself with your thinking. This is the proven way to do it the Sikh way. Waheguru is a powerful name to focus and to say. Saying it with your tongue will attract into you virtues like truthfulness, satisfaction etc. When these develop then you will be able to enjoy your recitation even more. Think of Ravans life. The one negative thought he had of wanting Sita drove him blind and to nothingness. We are also nothing without Naam. Naam sustains us. Without Naam we have nothing to stand by us and we get steeped into sickness and try to look for excuses. Naam jap yourself to success everyday. It kills all your negative thoughts giving you positive energy. You will never believe how high it can lift you if you never try it. Best of luck.
