  1. So what if kalyuj has come so near. The number of distractions which we have these days have multiplied so greatly. Before it was just theatre. Then it was TV. Then it was computer. Youtube, facebook and instagram and many others occupy our day and distract us greatly. Whatsapp and instant messaging and mobile phones mess us up greatly and allow us no peace. However Waheguru has even moved closer to us altogether with all these distractions. Now we have our path and our Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji available on our phones too to read whenever we desire to. God is ever gracious. At the end of the day it is our choice whom we choose to listen to and what we choose to read. The right choice leads us to choose everlasting peace and joy.
  2. It is not for us to decide whether there will be Khalsa raj or not. Khalsa is Akaal purakh dhi fauj. He can choose whom he wishes to rule wherever and whenever. No one knows.
  3. This article may shed a little more light. The dastar has always been part of a certain type of Guriskhs in India. A bibi of ooch avasta whom I met about 20 years ago had always been wearing a dastar. Perhaps it is now because of the internet that we are becoming more aware of this particular fact. She is the only one I had known for about 10 years wearing a dastar. There are many more bibiya wearing the dastar now. She was highly religious and told us that when they had an akhand path back there in India, they never slept and heard it all throughout. She woke up at amrit vela every single day to read sehaj path and bani. she knew a significant amount of bani off-head. http://www.sikhanswers.com/sikh-articles-of-faith-identity/sikh-women-turban-dastaar/
  4. It takes time to recover from any type of depression. If you are turning to bani then you are doing very well, because bani is the cure of all diseases. sarab rog ka aukadh naam. I would advise you to keep doing path and your state of mind will slowly recover. Always remember to stick to it. These sort of feelings take time to slowly dissappear. They will eventually dissappear and then you will be seeing the world in a new light.
  5. If you are feeling like that, make sure you are not going through depression. Yhat is when you get the feeling that nothing matters.
  6. Samagri for deg is measured thus using a bowl. We measure 1bowl of sugar and add that to the container in which the sugar water is to be prepared. Then depending on whether you would like to add 3 or 4 times the amount of water - the amount is measured using the same bowl. So we either add 3 or 4 bowls of water. Hope that helps.
  7. As long as you have said japji sahib with your true heart whilw making it nothing else matters. Let us not go back into what Guru Nanak dev ji came to deliver is from in the first place. Meaningless rituals. Naam is the only true power. Nothing else matters. Dhana bhagat got waheguru out of a stone because of his devotion. Bhagat Namdev offered milk and got liberated. Its a clean heart that matters not sugar ghee or water amounts.
  8. Yes they do waheguru jap for more than 10 hours a day daily However the powers are useless to a Gursikh as you are not supposed to use them without waheguru s hukam. I remember reading a thread where someone did simran for these powers and misused them. He could not do simran more than 10 hours without falling sick. It is important to do simran with the correct objective in mind and not direct our bhagti to satisfy our curiosities. God's house is overflowing with blessings. Let us pray for nimarta and uchi mat so that when his grace showers on us and we are able to engage in simran for long hours we are able to control our minds from tricking us leading to our accumulated amrit seeping away and harm coming to our bodies.
  9. Gurbani says bani Guru Guru hai bani Vaho vaho bani Nirankaar hai.... So guess who are actually doing the chaur on... what a maha pavitar opportunity Guru Ji has given us to do seva of Nirankaar and of the Guruji. Even the wind which we think is blowing aimlessly is actually serving God Pavan chavro kare
  10. The answer of your question unfortunately lies in the Bible where the Almighty says do not test your God. You should be thankful for a chance to sit your exams and study hard for it. Just a little push and you will make it through. The simran of Waheguru should be done without expecting any returns. No one can predict your future for you accurately because Waheguru can change what is written in a second depending on the love you have for Waheguru. Perhaps you need to read the sakhiya of Guru Nanak Dev JI and see how Waheguru stood by him at all times. The sooner you realise that this life was created to do Waheguru simran, the better for you. God helps those who help themselves. Stop relying and turning towards astrologers. The writer and changer of your destiny is you yourself. Do it. sagal ki chinta jis mun mahe God is worried about every being which he has created. In fact he is more worried about you than you are about yourself. That is why you should be full of gratitude and do Naam jap and Naam simran. That is the source of all blessings without having to ask.
  11. Please dont blame Gurbani when you dont understand it. That state of nothing matters is referred to those who are steeped in naam. Gun Gobinnd gayeo nahi janam akarath kin. What matters very greatly in Gurbani, in each and every written line is whether you have spent any time in your life doing naam simran. so you need to study Gurbani and not blame it for it is the Guru. Bani Guru Guru hai Bani. vaho vaho bani Nirankaar hai If you want to meet God then you need to read bani and put all your doubts aside.
  12. I think a better example to explain what you are saying is what I remember happened.some 20 years back. A person from another faith told me what some Sikh told him about the Guradwara. The advice given was - Young man - you know you will never save any money to get married if you keep spending on food. You should always eat at the temple down the road where there is free food (langar) I was taken aback by this. I wondered what sort of thinking was this? Therefore we need to try to hold everything in the correct perspective. Seva and langar have been created for a purpose. they are to help us eliminate our differences as the king and the poor man sit together in a pangat (line) at equal levels and have their food. The Guradwara has been created to satisfy our spiritual needs. When we go to the Guradwara we can sit down peacefully and listen to the word of God. After that we are not rushed and looking to cook our food and do some shopping. We can peacefully have the blessed food from the Langer. Contributing to the langer is the true way to make our savings grow. There is a sakhi about a very poor couple who lived in a hut. Some birds nearby were actually some enlightened souls. They took pity on the couple and used to take some part of their grain everyday and throw in the Guru ka langer. Slowly their earnings began to increase. This sakhi tells us the importance of the daswandh too. We actually think saving our money in the banks is going to bring us the true interest and help our savings grow. However GuruJi has made a foolproof system for us which works perfectly. There is another sakhi of where some King donated a bed made out of gold to a certain bhagat Ji. Bhagat Ji took it and stored it away in one of the rivers where he said everything else of his was too. When the king heard about this, he was very upset. He went to Bhagat Ji and demanded for his bed to be given back to him. Bhagat however took out ten beds. The king asked why he is being returned 10 beds. Bhagat Ji answered that your dhaan was being multiplied, but since you asked back for it - here are your ten gold beds back. Therefore let us learn to invest but also expect to get nothing back. Everything we have has been given to us by Go. Even so our body which we think is ours. However if something happens to it, we can never of our own efforts acquire this same body. Why are we so full of pride and greed. We should be thankful for all our blessings. We should be ever so humble and say mera muj me kich nahi. Jo kich hai so tera. Tera tuj ko saunmpdhe kya lage mera.
  13. Another source explains this On the basis of modern research, it seems probable that Kabir belonged to a family of non-celibate yogis converted, not long before and to a considerable degree superficially to Islam. From the writings of Kabir it seems that his knowledge of Islam was slight, rather in his poetical utterances (Bani) a wealth of Hathayoga terminology and a thought structure which bears obvious resemblance to Nath Yogis. Nath Yogis in addition to the yogic conception that all truth is experimental, i.e. to be realized within the body with the aid of psycho-physical practices, concentration, control of breathing and thus making the body incorruptible and the yogis immortal. Kabir also denounced mullahs and their rituals of bowing towards kaba five times a day. Because of open condemnation of established and popular religoins, Kabir became an object of the wrath of both Hindus and Muslims in and around Benaras. t was the authority of Vedas and Quran that more then the authority of Brahmin or Qazi which Kabir attacked. He rebelled against the pretension of resolving by the means of books or by way of authority, the mystery of human conditions and the problem of liberation (Moksha). http://www.sikh-history.com/sikhhist/events/kabir.html
  14. i tried quinoa and belief me its delicious and easy to cook too. You can have it as a replacement for rice. Its only the cost factor that jumps in to prevent frequent use. You can have it with your normal dhaal sabji and especially sholeya dhi sabji,
  15. Hi I have just been reading about our exposure to electromagnetic radiation. It sort of fatigues the body and drives people to look for some sort of relief. I just wanted to say that maybe you need to look into your exposure as it seems like you talk alot on the phone and use computer at work too. When you were not talking to your friends you seemed to have lesser craving for the products. Worth looking into I would say. It is a bit worrying about how much our kids are being exposed to this electromagnetic radiation so early in life. Computers and tablets at school all the time. Internet and tablets and games at home. Their brains are so delicate absorbing the magnetism and causing behaviour changes. Take a kid off the computer or tablet and they will be finding any excuse to get back to it. Overall you have done well for the month. Perhaps aim for the year. Any habit to get deeply ingrained into your daily practice needs the time of an year. Keep it up.
  16. Shakar Ganj / Sheikh Farid (1173-1265 A.D) At birth his parents named him Farid-ud-Din Masaud, but he is mostly revered as Baba Farid of Pak Pattan. https://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Sheikh_Farid Kabir was born to a Brahmin unwed mother inVaranasi, by a seedless conception and delivered through the palm of her hand,[5]:5 who then abandoned him in a basket floating in a pond, and baby Kabir was picked up then raised by a Muslim family.[1][5]:4–5 However, modern scholarship has abandoned these legends for lack of historical evidence, and Kabir is widely accepted to have been born and brought up in a family of Muslim weavers.[5]:3–5 According to the Indologist Wendy Doniger, Kabir was born into a Muslim family and various birth legends attempt to "drag Kabir back over the line from Muslim to Hindu".[10] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabir Ok my mistake they were of a muslim origin or muslim background.
  17. A true sikh child would attend such a wedding and see for their own so that it sticks in their heads. The pain and dissappointment and shame on the parents' face still shows even if they look happy. When you don't go to close weddings then the blame later on can easily shift on you as being the person who jinxed it if it doesn't work. Factors which are beyond your control need to be taken as the will of God to pacify the mind. This is of course not in the support of interfaith marriage as somewhere in the rehatnama it clearly states that a sikh should marry a sikh. Non sikhs can marry who ever they want. If her parents are happy then it's the maya reason not the marrying a hindu reason. My mum always came back from such a wedding and told us if would have been better if xyz did marry an xyz person. This example however was however from a muslim getting married to a hindu.
  18. All you can do is accept this as the hukam of Waheguru. Marriages are made in heaven and carried out on earth. If her heart is not in sikhi then you can't blame yourself All you can do is be a good sikh yourself and see all in one light. Sikhs do not look down upon any ond else. Its not the best of situations to be in in. If she looked after you when you were young this is the least you can do for her as a payback. Do attend her wedding and wish her best of luck. Remember always its Waheguru's will which always happens not ours. Its not for us to choose who will marry who and which religion they will choose to follow.
  19. I think you can advise her to recite salok of sheikh farid and kabir. They were Muslims too. These can be obtained from You tube. They have meanings as well in english
  20. I think you should tell her that she can read and listen to saloks o f kabir and sheikh farid as they were of muslim origin. They are on YouTube with meanings as well in English.

  22. Would you kindly please explain further nirgun and sargun saroop. My boodhi seems too small to understand what it means.
  23. Waheguru is your father and mother tu mera pita tu hau mera mata. You can talk to him anytime. He's always there.
  24. These are not whole wheat but just tasty. Try these and you will get totally addicted. Stir fry some frozen vegs in oil first. Add some mixed herbs. (I have not tried tofu but you can as it is a high protein food) Prepare these noodles in another saucepan. Add the noodles to the cooked vegs. (to make it slightly unhealthy you can add chips - just fry and add to the mix. Reheat in a medium grill and you will get a crunchy meal if you like crunch. You may top with cheese and add in the grill - if you like cheese as it is a protein source too. Ko Lee Instant Noodles Mix Vegetables 85g 28p £3.29 per kg
  25. When you listen deeply to the wordcof God then nothing matters. For some reason one day the katha was so great that when I was having langar, I was just full of thankfulness. It was just dhal parshadha and I waa surprised that I was not yearning for the sabji too. However before I used to get upset when the halls full and you have to stand around. When people do hard physical seva however they need to eat their fill. We need to purify our mind and never judge how much others eat. Guru ghar provides for everyones needs. We are blessed to have langar. Guruji has thought of our every need. I remember a sakhi about a bhagat ji whose wife was having to do extra work because they had a visitor. This was God himself testing her. One day her neighbour asked her why she has lost weight and she is very thin. She replied that their visitor eats a lot. The visitor disappeared and bhagat ji was very angry with his wife. So we need to remember this everytime we come close to looking at what others are eating. Take it as your test. It is a natural instinct to look into others plates.
