  1. Getting rid of a bad habit works better - if you are busy - no time to indulge. When I was getting rid of (my bad habit) - I have managed by trying to create a good habit. This good habit was trying to do sukhmani sahib dha path everyday. My friend started that too. We both felt a great change come over. We were more peaceful, happier and we were able to deal better with the people around us because it gave us great inner strength. You can try the same. Make it a part of your routine for instance to listen to Sukhmani sahib dha path everyday. It may take a while for you to start to feel the goodness and peace in it. When you are troubled or need strength to say no to your friends - just read Sukhmani - it works. I also try to read sehaj path from my mobile and the meanings as well whenever I am feeling down or lost. It works great. I have other divine ideas and stories to focus on rather than wasting time doing chugliya. Reading sehaj path with the meanings is wonderful as it will give you lines which strengthen you and remind you of your purpose of coming to this earth. That is to become one with Waheguru. It points out to you about the bad effects too of your sins so that you can avoid doing wrong. Your mum may feel bad - yes you did the right thing. Chugliya do not bring us anywhere. We may be doing lots of path but when our focus is centred on other people especially those who disturb our peace of mind then we need to talk it out to someone. If that someone may point it out to us that we are loosing our path - we will definitely start thinking about our actions and try to put them right. Occassionally people approach me and start gossiping about my in laws - which I just kindly point out to them - we don't benefit at all from gossiping about people who are irritating others do we ? And I change the topic. My son who is only 6 asks me lots of questions and the meanings of Japji sahib as well. I am driven to read and find out more so that I can give him the correct answers. Guiding your parents is not bad. We occassionally encourage and remind ours to exercise and keep fit. They do listen and make amends. So your point got through in this case. No need to feel bad about it.
  2. I read somewhere that doing chaupai sahib the path about 7 times each day can help you stop getting such dreams. When you are ill you do have lots of strange dreams. Dont worry just stick to doing path - to the maximum whatever happens - dreams or no dreams.
  3. Your dream may be as a result of some good deed you have done in the past. When I read the story of Bhai Rama Singh Ji - he was born as a Hindu and was sort of lost despite having been Guru Gobind Singh Jis sikh. Because of one bad deed he had been sort of cursed to be born as a Hindu. He cut his hair and was totally lost - searching for the true path. When he fought his temptations - Guru Ji gave him his darshan. It was so powerful that it changed him. He came back from the trip he was on and put on a dastar and became a devoted sikh. Guru Ji is there for everyone, sinners, saints, drinkers, murderers - people of all religions. He has no complaint against anyone. We get what we work for. The fruits we reap are from the seeds we sow. The video above tells us how Guru Gobind Singh went to the crowning ceremony of the son of aurangzeb - who had given orders for the shaheedhi of Guru Gobind Singh Jis sons.
  4. We went through a similar situation for 12 years. Everyone kept on asking us questions and we did feel down. However we just choose to ignore them. Approaching 35,I decided it did not matter anymore. The will of God was supreme. If he wished us to have a baby we will have one. My prayers just consisted of Tera kiya meetha laage. My mum in law pressured me into praying for a child. i just said yes all the time. I laughed off what people said - just took their comments lightly as jokes. We were taken to many places for a matha tek and prayers specifically for a child. When we started relaxing, keeping cool, and stopped worrying - it was the best. That is when we were blessed. So the best is to relax, dont blame others or yourself and blessings will arrive soon. Pray for strength to get past the situation. Hopefully it should not last too long. Soon everything will be forgotten as you get busy with the little ones - then you will miss these carefree days and understand that the worrying and jealousy were just a big waste of time. You could have done better, coz kids keep you so busy. They literally just come and take over your life.
  5. We are all human. Just because you feel tired and lazy does not mean you mean professional help - thats just my thoughts. I feel like I want a change too sometimes. You are the best judge of what your body and your mind needs. There are some days when you just need to rest. Nothing wrong with that. We are then able to deal with things in a more refreshed manner. Working out hard also requires you to rest your body - as the body needs time to repair itself. Working out causes small cuts to appear in the muscles - so only protein, the right nutrients and rest will get you back to normal. It is also important to replenish your body with some nutrients - especially a healthy fruit like banana within an hour post workout. This helps recovery faster. All in all you did well - achieved your goals which was having another drink free day.
  6. It may help to have some fruits like bananas around so that you can at least have a snack after working out.
  7. A video talking about intoxication in sikhi
  8. Well you are on the right path. There is nothing to be gained by drinking and drugs. My grandfather passed away prematurely at the age of 70 because of his drinking habits. He was just such a good man and had a good heart and helped many people - he may have done more, unfortunately he had too many helath problems because of drinking. My dad too indulged heavily before he got married and could not stop until much late. My dad had his tonsils removed and could not eat tomatoes and spicy foods so we all ate bland food. Luckily my mum managed to get him to stop completely but it took almost 20 years. Luckily I am married in a family where there are five brothers and no one drinks at all. Both my brothers have never touched drink. I have 8 nephews and 2 nieces who have never touched any alcohol. We are all very happy, no major health problems, have enough money to live comfortably and are thankful to God that he has kept us away from drink. yes, we all have a limited social life - but people respect us for our choice. Just to let you know that you are not alone who has decided to not drink. There are many others. It would be beneficial for you to befriend such people who don't drink. When I was at work all the girls drank - and they wanted to ask me out and lace my drink with alcohol which they maybe just joking. So I never went out with them. So yes - you have to be ready to become head strong and see all the evil in drink. That is what it is. It is all evil - breeds evil and leads you to evil. It hurts you and everyone else around you. The pleasure of a drink is shortlived and its after effects are painful and you have to live with them. The name of waheguru - is the true nectar - the true drink. The drink which is fun to drink and the after effects are peace and liberation. Amrit peevo sadha chir jeevo. So keep up with your good habits and eventually what you reap will be good rewards. However it is important to focus more on the positive - such as begin a project or course or hobby which will have all your attention instead of trying to focus on avoiding the drink. Nothing that will stress you out but something to keep you occupied to the extent that you loose yourself in it. Art, writing, photography could be anything which you always thought you wanted to do but never had enough time. Fresh juice is a good way to recover from any lathargy. I personally tried juicing - carrots, peppers, cucumbers, spinach and the lot. Helps you recover from any bodily weakness you may be having because of ill health. There is lots of advice and recipes online on different types of juices.
  9. Rangeela Ji came to perform kirtan in a Guradwara in Nairobi. Langar used to be served and people sat on benches and tables to eat. After performing kirtan he came downstairs and saw that, I think he just left and requested that the next day everyone should have langar by sitting lower down. So for the next few days little low benches were brought in. Everyone sat on them to have langar. Rangeela Ji joined in. The committee members however waited for him to leave, then requested chairs to be brought in and sat on the chairs and had their langer. This was because they wore expensive suits which could be ruined by sitting down. If we truly want to be blessed we have to approach the Guradwara and sangat with humility. Bhai lehna Ji and our Gurus have shown the utmost humility to all. I think it was Guru Ramdas Ji who said to Baba Sri Chand when asked why he had such a long beard - It is to wipe the dust off the feet of holy men like yourself. Baba Sri Chand Ji had hoped to become the second Guru after Guru Nanak Dev Ji, but the humility of Bhai lehna Ji was great. Not once looking at his clothes, he lifted up the wet bundles of grass for the cows which left his clothes stained up. The Gurus sons had so much pride in them, that they would not perform this and several other tasks which Bhai lehna Ji did. Gurbani tells us time and again to think ourselves as neech. Apas ko jo jaane nicha so ganiye sabh te uchaa. Humility is the true virtue of all. At a recent Nagar kirtan - we were all crowding on the street in Southall as Maharaj dhi sawari was going to pass there. On the pavement was a big pile of litter as the bin had filled up and people were eating off the stalls - and needed some place to bin their used plates, cups and utensils. Of all the people crowding the street - everyone wanted to matha tek to Guruji - no one was thinking about tidying up the street and getting some black bags. If we develop humility - that is where true seva begins. Bhai Rama Ji in his book narrates how he progressed with simran and seva - but in order to enter sach Khand which is the abode of the almighty - he had to work to earn the key of humility which will open the door which leads to our union with the almighty. This is the whole purpose of our human life. Langar, seva simran have been offered to us as a help to reach our final goal. Let us pray for the strength to be able to perform tasks in humility without being aware of what happens to our bodies and clothes. Park Avenue in Southall does have chairs in the kirtan darbar but the area where the chairs are placed is lowered down significantly. It is used mostly by the elderly who spend many long hours in the Guradwara. It is not possible to sit for long on the floor. A low glass partition separates the place from the main hall too. Its sort of made to look like a separtae partiton and not part of the main hall.

The app Gurbani nirvaan is very useful as it lets you enter just the first alphabets of the shabad in English or even in punjabi for searching. This app is very good has helped me find many shabads. Totally worth downloading for use as the search is very good.
  11. Amazing video of how a girl closed her hairdressing business. The power of naam. Totally worth watching.
  12. In my understanding the threats are to burn the Guru Granth sahibs in a certain place - if the sikhs stop the release of the films messenger of God, messenger and messenger 2 in punjab.
  13. Sometimes when you are extra nice to people especially mangers who are being nasty to you - you get surprising results. How about just taking him a box of sweets and saying thankyou for all your help. You are a great inspiration to me. I know its hard to do - but worth a try. If he throws the box out and about and makes a nasty remark - then you know for sure - he's really bad and burning inside. If he smiles and accepts it and shares with others - well good for you and him. If he gives you those looks then you know - well I was right. Sometimes I have realised we judge people wrong and start imagining plenty of things and start focussing on the wrong side of things. Well worth a try - let us know how it worked. You will meet with plenty more people of the sort during your work life. I remember a lady who volunteered with me - and the manager told me to stand up to her ordering me around. Yours however seems a different sort of problem. Every place I have worked in, I have met people who particularly dont like me, so you got to find a way to sort these feelings out within yourself too and stay focussed on your task and on your continued development. Negative people do not deserve the energy which you spend worrying about them. Use your time and energy constructively as remember you have a limited supply of both. The future stretches out long ahead with many more problems.
  14. This explains more on auras and vibes we get from bad and good people. http://psychiclibrary.com/beyondBooks/aura-sensing/ A book called Baba Naudh Singh which I read some long time back provides an excellent example of this effect. Being in the company of the Guru Granth Sahib gives us alot of peace. Being in the company of an ordinary person is totally different. These energies sort of rub off onto us. I was recently reading a piece of cleansing using salt water where it was recommended to dip your feet into salt water to get rid of evil energies. It involved the saying of a prayer as well before and after. So these energies do exist. Baba Naudh Singh's book explains how we use Gurbani to cleanse ourselves just as we clean our house every single day and throw out the dirt. Me and my friends were having lots of negative thoughts lately. This was because we missed our prayers and did not do them regularly. We decided to perform them regularly and the results were amazing. We are both very peaceful now. We do not blame others for our misfortunes. We stopped cursing others and seeing them as bad. We try to encourage others to pray as much as they can. We offer prayer as a solution to others who have any problems. We still have problems but we dont let them overwhelm us and discourage us from prayers. We have now learnt to distinguish our misfortunes and bad lucks from our prayer times. Prayer is now supreme and we are both highly peaceful. In the case of disturbed thoughts we simply go and pray and get our peace back.

  18. A more logical explanation is here (this is from a chinese site) Actually, the external vibration and shaking phenomena is one-half mystical and one-half psychological in origins. There is a definite wind chi or energy component to the problem, and a definite causality due to self-suggestion. As can be seen in the case studies from How to Measure and Deepen Your Spiritual Realization, many times people invent various scenarios in their mind which they work out or express through meditation gong-fu without knowing it consciously. In this case, the people who experience this shaking are trying to unwind because they have too muchnervous tension, but they don't even recognize it . Now that their mind is stilled, their body and chi has a chance to unwind. This subconscious nervous tension most often causes the trembling of nerves and muscles. Then the hint of those subconscious influences enter the conscious mind where they are amplified and the tremors, trembling and vibrations become enhanced. A person can then start to shake and move their limbs about in a regular pattern, even assuming yoga positions or dance-like movements. It's usually the case that ordinary people cannot determine the real cause behind these trembling sensations. Some fear it's a sign from God. Others fear it's the work of the devil. Some think it's something mystical from a past life or that yoga was invented this way. Others believe they have developed divine powers or that their chi channels are opening and they indulge in these things, amplifying them even more. Not only are all these wrong, but the worst case is when someone stops their meditation because of these results. All it's showing is pent-up stress, NERVOUS TENSION and psychological auto-suggestion that amplifies this problem as it's finding an outlet. The real problems come when people over-indulge in these things and try to turn them into something mystical, as happens in religious cults. When this sort of shaking occurs, the real chi of the body CANNOT enter in the front and back, tu-mai and jen-mai chi channels because it's preoccupied with circulation amidst the shaking limbs, ligaments and muscles. So does that mean it's wrong? No. It's just happening as a form of release, and if you are cultivating your mind and body to a state of health, let it go, let it unwind as a natural outlet to dissipate nervous tension. You should quiet your mind and relax, elevating yourself above this level of phenomena, so as to enter a state of mental quietude. Don't think it's anything unusual except REAL proof you DO need meditation. Don't amplify the phenomena but try to enter a deeper state of quietude, forget the body, and the nervous tension will subside and leave for good after a few times. That's what you want. 19. This comes from a site that practice meditation (not simran) There may be odd bodily twistings, obsession with posture, and painful tensions or strange other sensations, particularly in the back, neck, jaw and shoulders. These tensions may persist when not meditating and be quite irritating and even debilitating. The rhomboid and trapezius muscles are the most common offenders. It is common to try to sit with good posture and then find one’s body twisting into some odd and painful position. You straighten out, and soon enough it does it again. That’s a very Three Characteristics sort of pattern. People sometimes describe these feelings as some powerful energy that is blocked and seems wants to get out or move through. As the mind gains speed at really seeing each of the sensations of the mind and body come and go, the jerkiness from cause and effect can get quite rapid and pronounced. These physical movements and spasms seem to help break up the physical tension that may sometimes accompany this stage, and are a sign of progress. 20. Ardaas in difficult times does tend to help you a little. Sometimes it sorts the situation for you. Any difficulties - prayer solves them all. je mushkil hove at bhari har ko naam khin maye udhari. No matter how big a problem God's name will sort it all out.
  21. I remember my father in law saying something like the newly married brides were made to wear chanrha and stuff like that for a reason. The reason being that these things make some noise when they are about. The members of the household can then be aware that their newest member is around and take care of what they say, lest their family secrets get misheard. Well these days life is better for newly married brides. In the olden days women restricted their eating and drinking habits too. This was because they used the jangal and there were no toilets made. So a newly married bride had to keep sitting in the house where she was with a heavy lengha until it was time for all the girls to visit the fields and fertilise them. That is why it is called jangal pani. They went out in the dark - so that they would not be seen. (Very funny - at least we can eat and drink normally these days and visit the loo too) We have come such a long way in the fight to equality that sometimes I wonder what women are actually talking about when they say they feel they are being oppressed.
  22. How about sikhi dhaan - because it is a dhaan actually. We pray for it in ardaas as in Sikhi dhaan parosa dhaan bibek dhaan dhaana sir dhaan naam dhaan. Your v log is I suppose all about praying and prayer to get there. The message of sikhi being a dhaan which needs to be asked for from God. As you have realised that naam is also a dhaan. Se simre jin aap simrae. Those will do simran whom Waheguru himself blesses to do so.
  23. A Nazarite is someone who has been chosen by God and the parents are notified too by God. For instance ~Samson was born to deliver the Israelites from the Philistines. Here is the full story. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Judges+13-16
  24. Your parents can provide you with guidance. Trust however is something which develops inwardly and takes time. As you grow older - you are the one who makes the choices depending on what type of company you keep and what you read and what goals you set for yourself. When I was young you dont have that much understanding. My mum only started telling me the sakhis of the shote sahibzadhe when she realised that I chopped a bit of my hair while playing with my spanish friend. Ironically my friend when I saw her a few years later had stopped cutting her hair despite being Spanish. She insisted she wanted long hair like mine. That is how I understood why we need to keep long hair. It was because of our religion.
