  1. My nana employed a worker from Bihar who became addicted to afeem and helped him get off it. He said it wasn't a pretty sight. He had to lock him up in room for a while until he dried out. I know a few desi guys on building sites use it regularly too. It's potentially dangerous stuff.
  2. Opiates are probably the most addictive drug out there. They are no joke. If some of our ancestors took some in the past, I think they did it under specific protocols and that they were aware of the real serious dangers of the substance.
  3. That's why I never get excited about 'Sikh' politicians. Let's take George Galloway as another example. As much as I don't agree with his politics, as least he had the bottle to confront the establishment over the Iraq war and other crap.
  4. Could have been coke/steroid rage?? or anything else. It's not like those Thais tested him. The killer is in good shape for a man his age.
  5. I fully agree, but we have to warn readers about potential abuse. It's not like we don't have issues with 'chitta' being thrown over the border back home. And I'd put Sikh texts above european ones, who may be exaggerating a bit, or only putting a focus on fighters (due to the threat to themselves).
  6. It would be nice if you found the original text for that. Macauliffe sort of slated Kavi Santokh SIngh because of his alleged use of bhang:
  7. Dude, you're posting most of them. I hope you know that some silly apnay will use this as justification for recreational drug use brother.
  8. I wouldn't worry about others (of which there are plenty): The Gursobha reference is the most significant because it is purportedly a document from a darbari kavi of dasmesh pita's. If the work is what it claims, it's a source contemporary to dasmesh pita. I notice the use of the afeem seems to be associated with a long horseback journey (southwards) being made by Singhs? This might give us a clue as to the context of the usage?
  9. I wouldn't advise anyone to use the above information as justification for taking opiates btw folks! This is a big problem these days, and not only with opium based illegal drugs like heroin, but also legal opiate based pharmaceuticals - which doctors seem to by giving out like candy causing lots of addiction issues. https://www.therecoveryvillage.com/opiate-addiction/#gref
  10. I'm just trying to understand what happened. This was a sudden attack by someone who burst into a room unexpectedly.
  11. @shastarSingh Here's a translation of Ganda Singh's foreward to his edition of Gursobha I did years ago. You might find it interesting in terms of how Gursobha was discovered. http://www.sikhawareness.com/topic/14794-the-making-of-sikh-history-–-literally-a-translation-of-ganda-singhs-foreward-to-sainapatis-sri-gursobha/
  12. Good to see you doing your own research. Compare this to Ami Praful Shah's translation: https://www.scribd.com/doc/156866970/Sainapati-s-Gursobha-English-translation-and-dissertation-by-Ami-Praful-Shah
  13. So the whitey burst into the room naked, through a balcony at that, and then essentially started to choke Amitpal to death in front of his wife and kid.
  14. The only thing Dhesi has made a name for recently is complaining about Boris Johnson's comments on nikabs (that whole black outfit sulliyan wear), sod all else as of yet. I don't know why he bothered calling Boris 'racist' over this, Boris is a descendent of a turk sullah himself??? Corbyn probably pushed Dhesi to open his mouth. Has this guy got any will of his own? Like there aren't enough sullay politicians to fight their own battles without this guy jumping in......
  15. If the stuff coming out about gender birthrate discrepancies in the community is true, be that through selective abortions or other phenomena like hormones in the food/drink supply chain, then this will inevitably become more common.
  16. Yeah, and like I said, respected shaheed Singhs did consume it, so your black and white binary interpretation doesn't cut it. It's more complex than that. And I am genuinely shocked at your personal interpretation because you seem to be of a scientific bent. Surely you can't be missing all the slowly emerging information on our endocannabinoid system, and how important this is for our health. Maybe Singhs of old were a bit more clued up about this than we might imagine today. Especially given the 100 odd years of low grade 'education' brits pushed on Panjabis during colonialism.
  17. I honestly believe that the context of shaheeds of the past taking sukha is something we can't really grasp today because we've been thoroughly brainwashed with outside culture notions of these practices. Most significantly is the concept of 'drug classification' on what would have been perceived as a naturally occuring potential medical plant by people growing up native to the plant. So you are already transposing outsider frameworks on the practices. (Ones introduced by the brits no doubt). What is ironic is that the west is increasingly recognising the outright failure of their ('war on drugs') approach towards the use of these substances and are slowly but surely adopting a line more akin to ancient Indic practice, where criminalising the substances never occurred, and society self-regulated their use. Regarding the pangti from Bhagat Kabir above. That, I believe, refers to the ritualistic use of those substances in certain Hindu pilgrimages sites/religious practices that were common. It rightly condemns these as futile for the sought after mukti. Example of ritual fish. Why don't people post the full shabad of Bhagat Kabir Ji! We should be wary of just posting pangtis because they may not reflect the complete shabad and only give us a partial understanding. The context of these pangtis is VERY IMPORTANT. It's not like certain rehatnamas with short explicit instructions, a deeper meaning is implied in Gurbani usually.
  18. Why is anyone surprised?? Have you been to uni in the west? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7490943/Students-used-rigours-academic-life-16-pub-crawl-Leeds.html
  19. ^^For a g@ndoo you really like to use homophobic words....... You are deeply closeted, that is why you are hiding behind the masquerade of being a married heterosexual male. And then you have the front to cast aspersions on practices some highly respected Singhs did in the past (as per our own literature).
  20. You aren't even acting: You are a g@ndoo. You're lucky you aren't here. Someone would've been selling you as a rent boy by now.
