  1. In which way? It being coordinated more than is usual? I don't see anything too different from AKJ except it seems less exuberant? We've all seen strange stuff posted from there over the years. I was talking about those who've grown up under that victorian/protestant influenced 'Sikhism' thing i.e. Singh Sabha, not the actual victorian protestants. Many of those people who grow up under this seem to have imbibed that western disease of obsessive 'standardisation' and being fearful of anything that diverges from their hotch-potch ideology. I guess if someone does steady simran, rhythmically it could characterised as 'robotic' but I think this is a very narrow-minded way of looking at lt. I agree we need to watch out for cult like tendencies though, but from what I can see, the focus on simran as opposed to social interaction and politics, is a great idea to get people to actually practice and experience some form of simran - which, ironically, is rarely done in Gurdwaras. It would be a great introduction, with people (hopefully) continuing the practice individually as well. So it can go in other ways too. Planning to.
  2. Might have felt errie to you because it is so many miles away from the protestant/victorian influenced thing you grew up with?
  3. I think there was often more than just dancing involved here................
  4. We've had this in our culture for ages i.e. calling morbidly obese jananis 'takhree'.
  5. 7. @Kau89r8 If you want to experience something outside of the social media world, that isn't too far from you (if you are where I think you're from) maybe try this place - seriously! People are really commending the experience and set up. https://www.sikhawareness.com/topic/22586-naam-simran-meditation-in-guru-maneyo-granth-gurdwara-in-slough/#comment-210040
  8. What is it that you think you can say??? It's not an obsession is it. There's plenty of evidence that this subculture is trying to nudge out Sikh values over their own. You can clearly see this. What other side is there? That this subculture that overtly celebrates drinking, ostentation, rampant egotistical celebration of being of a particular caste through songs and (now) movies, establishing an apartheid like social hierarchy in pends, putting Sikhs and their top level institutes under a caste based polity for decades is doing a great thing for our collective quom? That it has a biraderi system more loyal to even nonSikh members over other Sikhs. That it publically reinforces negative stereotypes about kunjars and kunjarees. When you have lumpen hordes of our own community raised up on this over Sikh values, is there any surprise that so many are confused, and only have some sort of nominal Sikh 'identity'? We also know that companies like Moviebox are run by nonSikhs who are promoting a lot of this stuff. You have intellectuals like Bhai Ajmer Singh telling us that this whole thing started from hardcore jut casteist KPS Gill himself, when he implemented Operation Night Domination and started promoting this culture. Plus you haven't even acknowledged that this stuff aint even our culture and looks like it came from muslims!! I'm not the only one who thinks it's crap and can have negative consequences for our community: What do you think forums are for? For us all to be singing the same song like an echo chamber? I've put my stuff out there for a while, and I've taken my fair share of flack for it - that's the nature of these exchanges. You've hardly addressed any of the issues I've put out about how you are thinking. Yes, we have issues (like everyone else), but no, we do have people bravely challenging and trying to address these, which involves confronting powerful organisations that are supported by the government itself i.e. the police, sections of 'mainstream' media as well as deranged, perverted, violent criminal gangs. Yes, we do have a negative legacy from the colonial era we need to confront and reverse. You say your stuff and don't even address counter points like in a normal discussion??? You haven't even mentioned the dodgy Bloom report that just came out that blatantly attacks Sikhs. https://www.sikhawareness.com/topic/22578- the-bloom-review-fails-on-sikhs/ You haven't addressed the legacy of the destruction of the indigenous Sikh education system and it's long term consequences that might help explain things: Yes, desi 'parchaar' generally doesn't cut it when it comes to educated diaspora raised Sikhs, but we DO have a growing and fascinating intellectual culture re-emerging from all the dumbing down from the colonial era to this day. We do have a growing interest in our puratan texts and traditions. We do have young people who study these things and share their findings with the sangat. https://www.sikhawareness.com/topic/21066-patshahi-mehima-revisiting-sikh-sovereignty/ How can you fault me for trying to bring these important factors into your consideration? They explain why we are in our current situation and also potentially allow for the development of a culture/practices to sidestep them. They also show how we are being derailed by inimical forces (internal and external). I'm wondering how the heck you can't see any of this, but are instead 'mesmerised' by some abrahamic dawaah???
  9. First thing, don't stop trying, teenage years can be awkward for many. You have to build up your confidence, this can be done in various ways, for blokes training helps. Also, decentre your thinking - by this I mean don't just focus on what you think others are thinking - learn not to care, when it doesn't matter.
  10. Really? I don't know much about them? Thanks for letting me know. I posted what I did on face value. Whether this guy does what you say above (which isn't in line with the rest of it), there is still a big point about apnay putting on jaloose exhibitions, especially on Vasaakhi. Did you know for a long time (decades), sullay groups from east london would make a bee-line for these events in w.london because they saw them as an easy opportunity to pull some dumb apnee broad. Regardless of Shamsher's personal moves and contradictions, every apna and apnee needs to understand the impact of colonisation on Sikhs and how it led to the manipulation of Sikhi to create some docile 'religion' complete with vows of loyalty to a foreign sovereign, and unquestioning obedience to the colonialists. It's where the slave mentality originated from, so understanding it is key to undoing this. This might go over your head, but in all seriousness, most of the issues people complain about (especially you) started in that period and we have carried this through till today, with people still actually believing in that hotch-potch nonsense for multiple generations now - that's where that subordinate sepoy mentality comes in, and how a sovereign alpha mindset gets lost. It's also how and why so many are (wrongly) convinced that our thing is some western, liberal movement but with turbans and beards. That's not even going into the destruction of the indigenous Panjabi/Sikh education system, and the systemic looting of it's wealth and political impact which led to the loss of Sikh sovereignty, which has put us where we are today. So don't by mistake think that the colonisation issue isn't a major one for us, and one we can afford not to confront and address (especially in terms of it's psychological impact on apnay). We aren't the only ones dealing with this either (although we seem to be one of the slowest in even grasping it??) It doesn't matter that we are in the epicentre of the source of this (i.e. uk), if anything we'll get to understand it more in that way - some of us anyway. PS - Don't you ever feel like you are on social media way too much and that this may be skewing your perspective?
  11. There's absolutely nothing wrong with promoting this stuff in the panth sister!!! Pure alpha action! These people will obviously save the panth (and the world itself!) with their awesome profound subayachaar! How is anyone who grows up around this, not going to turn into an awesome b@dass??? It almost looks like some hostile external forces have infiltrated us and manipulated us to make us look like complete fudhoos and go in the opposite direction of our dharam?????
  12. I think a lot of communities have problems. Given what we've been facing since the 'annexation' it shouldn't be any surprise to anyone with even half a brain. And I do think some people are making sustained efforts to sort some things out, and that the fruits of these efforts might now be apparent straight away, but like saplings they will grow into strong trees that later generations will benefit from. All being said, whatever our issues, given the dirty (and deserved) rep certain other communities have made for themselves, whatever our issues, I wouldn't want to be them. I'm glad I'm in this panth, even if it is tough at times. It's a spiritual warrior's path, it isn't supposed to be a walk in the park maybe. In my opinion, we are only just coming out of the shadow of serious colonial manipulation. And if you look at it, our lot got it the worst in this respect of all subcontinent communities. Realigning ourselves and rediscovering our true roots (i.e. Sikhi not 'Sikhism') en mass isn't going to happen overnight. Nor is it likley to be a smooth journey - it is what it is. But we are a strong people, who've weathered some serious attacks over centuries. With Guru ji's kirpa, we'll do it again, and again, and again!! Apnay shouldn't let a tough phase demoralise them, if anything, that's the time to bring out that resilience and spirit Sikhs ARE famous for. I talk to some sullay, if you think many of them aren't down about a lot of stuff in their thing - you're gravely mistaken. And they have a lot to be concerned about. Don't you see anything positive?
  13. @Kau89r8 You say all of what you have, but it looks like the gorment here are actually crapping themselves at 'alleged' Sikh 'militant' activity. https://www.sikhawareness.com/topic/22578- the-bloom-review-fails-on-sikhs/ Yeah, we have problems, but who doesn't, plus can't you see that some of us are trying to deal with them? I've seen a lot of positives over the decades. I think we've come a long way - and that's not saying we don't have a lot further to go. These problems didn't crop up over night, and resolving some of them will be a long term battle. You have to keep positive, active and do your bit.
  14. @Kau89r8 My favourite quote of the year so far: I don't think he should knock the organised armed militia tradition like that. I think this is what will save us in the end.
  15. Anyone doing anything interesting in this department this year? New thing for me: I'm trying spring onions. Basically I soaked some cut off ends in water for a bit (surprising how quickly the roots and green sprouts grow!). I've now potted them in soil.
  16. Exactly, plus we know that those Sikhs were/are in genuine danger over there in comparison to these other hordes that were welcomed with open arms. It's just another aspect of unspoken of but persistent anti-Sikh agenda brits have. But some of our dimwitted, closeted princesses can't seem to fathom that......
  17. This is from 1896 - Falcon, R.W. (Captain, 4th Sikh Infantry, Punjab Frontier Force), Handbook on Sikhs: for the use of Regimental Officers Printed at the Pioneer Press, Allahabad, India, 1896
  18. Or that there are probably more sullay Panjabis here in the Uk than Sikh ones.
  19. If this is the quality of female role models coming from back home, we're f**ked! https://tribune.com.pk/story/2383269/if-fawad-khan-wasnt-married-i-would-date-him-sonam-bajwa
  20. There's just so much confusion regarding identity. It looks like desi apnay actually think the word 'Panjabi' means 'Sikh'??????
