  1. Sorry can't help you out. But Ramkali Ki Vaar is a beautiful bani. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but it is the only mention of any bibi during Guru Sahibs times(Matha Kivi jee) in Guru Granth Sahib jee. Also, Bhai Tejinderpal Singh jee Dhulla jee is one of the nicest people I have ever met. So extremely humble. Sometimes I think of the millions of dollars he could have made like other keertani's across the globe. And at a point when he was struggling financially to start his career with a large family to support I don't think anybody would blame him. But he never abused the gift of kirtan that Guru Sahib blessed him with.
  2. The US Marines have amazing discipline and a great training regiment. One thing is for sure, if you do join you will be more of a 'sipahi' then all of us in terms of actual training. But, being angry with other sikhs for not joining as well is not productive. There are many reasons why joining the military is not viewed upon favourably by sikhs in the west. The biggest one being that our parents came to western countries for education and a 'better life'. This is embedded into the culture of western sikh families. And of course, the moral dilemmas of serving governments that might not suit your personal beliefs in terms of foreign policy is a hard one to get passed for some as well. All the best with whatever path you choose.
  3. Soorbir Singh, I'm sorry but where do you see naked people running around in that picture? And where is there anybody intoxicated? Other then maybe the intoxicating bliss of naam and sehaj. It seems like you are sensationlizing something that isn't factual at all. Your argument is that because Maharaj saroop was carried with full respect it was ok to take it to the desert and other areas in which Singhs faught in WW2. (Which is realistically 100x more 'kaljug' infested then a beach) Another argument is that the wedding on that beach is for our convenience. But somehow, taking Guru Sahib in WW2 was a necessity? I'm sorry, but both of these are for convenience. There is no evidence to suggest that the area was not cleaned, and proper maryada was not followed when taking Guru Sahib to the area in that picture. The same satkar shown by the Singhs in the WW2 seems to be shown in this picture as well. Until you can prove otherwise, I do not see how your argument holds any merit. When holding camps etc. do we not take Guru Sahib outside of the 'gurdwara' walls? Also, on a side note. For those that say Guru Sahib should only be taken to places if it is not for our convenience, how do we know that there was no local gurdwara in this area? And a premi decided to have the wedding on the beach because there was more space and no access to a local gurdwara. Or for the simple fact that a local gurdwara might refuse to let them to do kirtan or lavaan etc. and would want the local ragi jatha to perform it. These are questions you cannot answer from a picture. Bottom line to me is that from simply one picture it seems the area was cleaned and full satkaar was given. So there should be no issues.
  4. Look at it from the perspective that Baba Deep Singh was a warrior, and not one of our Guru Sahiban. Our Guru's set examples for future generations, and they new everything they did would shape the future of sikhi. Baba Deep Singh on the other hand was a warrior. His goal was to live out his life as a warrior. His sees was chopped off, and he was living in the moment and kept fighting. I'm sure he wasn't meaning to show off any miracle.
  5. Maharaj saroop is taken through streets at nagar kirtans, parkash has been done on mountain tops and carried through battle with respect. More then enough evidence has been given to show that there is nothing wrong with these practices. Once these threads keep going they go down a slippery slope and get nasty. Nobody is going to change there mind if they haven't so already, so close the thread.
  6. Seems like a very peaceful wedding ceremony. Exact opposite of a lot of the weddings I have been to in a guru ghar. Wish I could have been there.
  7. My apologies west london singh, but again this seems like some national pride issue. The much publicsized and critiscized(maybe warranted, maybe not) of sikh girls converting to Islam hit you in the patriotic bone, and an attack on a different sangat became your outlet? Canadian sangat has several issues, the biggest being disassociating ourselves from terrorism (The biggest case of terrorism in Canadian history was the downing of Air India flight 187 and has been linked to Babbar Khalsa and the fight for khalistan). Then you have the gang violence issue in BC, which has its spurts of violence every so often, and also ends up being connected to khalistani 'extremists'. And I'm sure there is a host of others. However, christian conversions are not an issue. Yes, christians might be seeking converts at a higher rate then the UK, this comes with the territory and the fabric of the culture. Although, I re iterate you are pulling at straws when trying to find a connection to Punjabs issue of christian conversions. In fact, with recent programs started at local gurdwaras in Toronto, sikhi is on an upswing. For 40 days at one of torontos biggest gurughars amritvela simran programs are packed at 4am every day. Similar initiatives have been spearheaded in other major cities. And why hasn't anybody done anything about that class/school? Because nobody has heard of it. Also, that is there right to do it if it is a privately run institution. And I am sorry that the issue as led you to leave the message board. Arguing on msg boards probably isn't good for ones spirituality anyway. You are one step ahead of me!
  8. He got dual citizenship and is currently being scouted by Englands national squad. I'm sure it is somewhere on his wki page. Hopefully he plays for Canada though, we could use the help.
  9. Oh and there is actually a punjabi player on the canucks. Mr Manny Malholtra. Making a few million playing this game. And with the popularity of ice hockey amongst punjabi's in Canada there will definitely be more in the future. Prabh Rai was recently drafted by the canucks. How many punjabis have legitimate chance in the EPL? And a bit unrelated but David Hoilett of Blackburn grew up in a punjabi community in Canada. He was a friend of mine and I use to play with him years ago. England is scouting him for the national team (he has dual citizenship) From what i remember, he was a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan!
  10. I'd suggest getting back to the issue at hand. Somehow connecting christian missionaries in punjab to random cities in North America is based on nothing but maybe a personal issue on your end. Other then the punjabi translated literature of jehova witnesses there isn't any huge issue in regards to sikhs converting to christianity in major sikh centres of Canada. I'm sure if there was, in the last 40 years there would have been one punjabi newspaper covering such incidents. Which I have yet to see. However, the real threat is probably a general apathy towards sikhi. Which I'm sure is an issue everywhere. Also, blaming sikh populations for the popularity of the American evangelical movement is funny. It is embedded into American culture (mostly middle america, you will not find such movements on the coasts of america in ny and cali. Which ironically, is where all the sikhs live!)
  11. In fact, from a language and cultural standpoint an actual study was recently done. "The group with the highest language retention is Punjabi: Some 33 per cent of third-generation children have mastered the language. “While immigrant groups of European origin have had more difficulty preserving their language over time, more recent immigrant groups, such as those who speak Spanish, Chinese or Punjabi, are generally more likely to maintain theirs,” says the report, titled “Evolution of Immigrant-language Transmission in Canada.” http://www.thestar.com/news/investigations/immigration/article/1004387--immigrant-languages-thrive-amongst-first-generation-canadians?bn=1
  12. That entire rant about dealing with it at its root cause in canada, is very inaccurate. While Christianity is the backbone of American politics, that is not the case in canada. And there is not any large scale epidemic of sikhs converting to christianity in toronto or vancouver. Any evidence contrary evidence that suggests the opposite is welcome. Ie. Any actual evidence tracing missionaries to these cities. Sikhs in America might be a bit more susceptable to christian influence, particularly if they live in areas with little sikh population. But even then, by and large the sikhs of America have done an extremely good job in retaining their identity.
  13. Don't know why you are jumping on the guy. It is merely a point of view. A generation of sons and daughters were lost. Emotional and physical trauma that we can only imagine. Yet, when someone says hmm do we really want to go that route again? And people jump on him. It is a point of view that deserves discussion and respect. Particularly with the protests in the Middle East as an example there are clearly other models to achieve political goals. It deserves discussio0n.
  14. Why even talk of Khalistan at this point? There are so many other pressing issues to focus on. Always keep it on your hearts, but at this point in time it really should not be at the forefront of our community/kaum. I feel this brainwashing of youth to develop nothing but hate is also a step in the wrong direction. If khalistan was given to us tomorrow, why do I get the feeling we would be like..uhh now what? And within 6 months we would be fighting for a free Khalistan from whoever is the currently in control. Never forget the sacrifices and our right for independance, but our time/money/focus should be spent elsewhere.
  15. 4-4-4-4-4-4 lifeeee. And wait for it at 2:20 for the hand signal brought in by the wolfpac. if you remember, NWO black n white use to do it a different way. I take back everything I said. If Sting could join the NWO, then nobody is safe.
  16. Now I'm not saying conspiracies don't exist, corrupt regimes try to cover up stuff all the time. But to the scope you suggest is not possible. The largest leak of classified information in history (hundreds of thousands of documents still being leaked today) did not indicate even an ounce of evidence suggesting the US was involved in 9/11, or of any world domination conspiracy. You would think, of the thousands and thousands of ppl that have to be involved in such conspiracies one of them would say something. Obama was a gifted speaker, worked his <banned word filter activated> off in law school, got elected in the senate and rode the wave of anti neo con sentiment to get elected. Not much different then some of us who work hard and become very successful. "There must be something deep in the human psyche that makes us believe there are patterns to events – order, purpose and meaning. The simplest alternate explanation to a conspiracy theory is usually incompetence. When people say, “Why did these things happen?” and then point to a series of seemingly implausible events, it’s usually because the government messed up. The right arm didn’t know what the left arm was doing. Government is made of human beings. They are remarkably ordinary in their ability to make mistakes. There is also a certain amount of life which is luck, chance, coincidence and happenstance. You can’t always divine some larger pattern from the fact that two events seem related or happened in the same month. Often it is just chance. As you see, I’m not particularly partial to conspiracy theories. I can’t tell you how many times people ask me about the conspiracy of the Bilderberg Group. It is a conference I’ve occasionally been invited to and have attended once or twice. If only the people who wrote the alarmist treatises on the Bilderberg Group were allowed in. They would be so utterly disappointed. It’s just a conference like dozens of others around the world. And anyway, the idea that a finance minister or a banker would say something with a group of 150 people that is any different than what he would say in public is crazy in today's world where everything leaks instantly. In my experience, they say the same fairly banal platitudes inside as they say outside. So on the few occasions in my life when I’ve been inside centers of the conspiracy, I’ve been disappointed and relieved to find they were pretty much like the world on the outside." - Fareed Zarkaria Ok sorry for derailing the topic. Back to the issue at hand. How I might be related to the monkey at the local zoo!
  17. Yea I know that hand signal. The NWO (WCW) use to do it (Hollywood Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash) A common hand signal in America magnified into large pictures is just senstionalizing something very simple. It's a freakin hand signal! I use to do it as a kid all the time. And in regards to presidents being related. Even if they are related, it honestly isn't that suprising. Western folk are very good at tracing back there lineage, and at the end of the day a lot of ppl are related to each other. 10% of the Canadian population can trace back there roots to the British Monarchy. And look how far Canada is from the Uk! If we could trace back our roots to 5-6 hundred years ago, alot of ppl on this board would somehow be related.
  18. And I love how Harjeet turns threads into illumaniti conspiracy theories. Darwin was an agent of the Rockefeller family hahahah! My friend, you need to stop giving normal human beings such a high status. People like George Bush are not a part of illumaniti societes or whatever. He was just a dumb drunk texan, that got elected because of circumstance. The most powerful people in the world can barely hide sex scandals let alone the theories of evolution. There are thousands of scientists that are free of infleunce and and try to prove things through a scientific basis.
  19. interesting debate. Question for the science people out there. What does science say about evolution continuing. Will humans evolve into something else in a thousand/million years? And what evidence of species (including bacteria n stuff) do we have right now? One thing is for sure. Science does not have even close a full grasp on the vastness of the Universe and its creation. It seems like every month scientists change here theory how old they think the earth is.
  20. What does it really mean to be in 'Guru Ji's fauj'. How many of these fauji's have had any training to certify them as an actual soldier?? We might be in Guru Sahibs fauj in the spiritual sense, but in the actual physical sense of being a fauji, majority of us ain't even close. Aside from the moral dilemmas involved I would go for the training. You would come out a true fauji of Guru Sahib and have the training to back it up. Ie. Gun training, physical training, all the different scenarios they put you in. And in regards to the moral obligations that is personal question you must resolve with your self. Personally, I am from Canada and have considered it. I agree with the majority of military actions my country gets into. For example not going into Iraq, but supporting the regime change of the taliban (who have committed countless atrocities on religious minorities including sikhs). And on a side note, anyone who says Maharaja Ranjit Singh only faught defensive battles is completely off on that part of our history.
  21. A sikhs hair and dastaar is our identity. It is a hukam of Guru Sahib. It is what makes us who we are as a distinct people/race/culture. I really doubt you will find the magical reason you are looking for that will answer your question. Also, it should be noted that historically long hair has been associated with spirituality and meditation. (also stated in bani) Can you really picture someone with no kes being able to reach that ultimate destination. But if you are looking for the health benefits and practical reasons for keeping kes there are a couple books that are out there. I think one is called "Hair Power". My apologies didn't see your post. Pretty much repeated what you said.
  22. Who cares man. Why bring up such a topic now that will only lead to nindia of Singhs.
  23. Could you go into more detail about the passage you talk about that considers cows 'sacred'. Nihang singhs still do this? I don't see any significance for this practice. Why a cow over any other animal? Why would a cow be any more sacred then my dog.
  24. This is one of the best msgs on this board. Forget everything else that is going on right now. Love is the key. "Bhagti is nothing but a love story between individual soul and infinite divine power - all pervading - Param Atma!" I LOVE that.
  25. I second this. Damesh Darbar used to be all about Gurmat. Now their moving off into fanatical Khalistan ways. I support Khalistan, but not Damesh Darbar version of it. You have not revealed dark side of this administration of this Gurudwara. They support Ragi Darshan and kala afghana. They have participated in meetings that were supporting this cult. They cann't call it Dashmesh Darbar and yet disown legacy of Dashmesh pita. Eitehr they are dumbheads or they have become agents themselves. You really have to stop calling everyone who doesn't agree with you a 'government agent' or supporter of kala afghana. You sound stupid, and by ur count there must be thousands of 'agents' posing as singhs in our midst. Give me a break. And yes, this gurdwara is panthic.
