This thread got me thinking a specific question. When guru ji banned sharaab was it the passing of the substance per se orally, or was it due to the known effects of alcohol.

I mean what if an Amritdhari theoretically took a small does of alcohol as contained in a prescribed medicine. Not enough to get you drunk say but something that was there in a tiny amount. Would they need to do pesh?

Another example could be if they use a mouthwash that contains alcohol. Obviously this isn't to drink or wouldn't effect one's state but f used would it constitute a breaking of Amrit? Just curious.

Alcohol is in quite a few products it seems. See this list.

Something I wonder is Nihangs and their use of Bhang, it's always been used for medical purposes; even though now people are just drinking it left and right. No one has peshed for Sukha, so I doubt it would be a problem for them, but for most mainstream Singh Sabha Sikhs, it would cause an uproar if an amritdhari was taking it.

There are lots of folks - especially in american politics as well where members of the party are more interested in any kinds of publicity to get them booked at the late night tv shows and to stay in the news circle. It is a big business for them but it is breaking our society. I have huge dislike and encourage of strict punishment to anyone for approaching underage kids for adults stuff. Tate was doing that for years.

Generally speaking... I recently came out of almost 3 weeks of our community stuff where i was involved in calming down two sides and has to pull many siyanay folks in. It was a similar issue where 24yrs old sardar pretending to be 17 to have relationship with 16 yrs old kid. Things i saw these 3 weeks is just ghor kalyug. Keep your kids close and away from these tik toks, insta and other stuff. No matter how hard it looks to you to accomplish that but in order to save our house, we must end this social media or raise our kids enough dharmi that these stuff does not bother them.

The thing Andrew Tate does is he exploits the issues in society to make himself more famous, he understands that the left has screwed up society so much that he can come in and take advantage of that, and unless society moves more towards a proper Gursikh view, people like Tate can continue to take advantage of the broken society. Either one influences society to go their way or people get absorbed into the society that controls everything, and right now the far left controls most of people's views, and this is just the counterreaction.

If Sikhism is ever to spread beyond the 20 million Punjabis who are Sikhs then Sikhism will have to change dramatically. For example, the discarding of the archaic beard and turban will be a major step in marketing the Sikh faith. Since the vast majority of people around the world (including Sikhs) do not wear beards and turbans Sikhism will be in a great spot to get rid of them permanently. Besides, why would anyone interested in becoming a Sikh want to wear them anyway???????

I would say numbers are important for political power in democratic systems, but numbers alone is pretty much useless, as we can see with the average Christian barely following the words of their founder and at many times Christians themselves have no idea of Jesus maryada. If we give up the importance of Kesh and Rehat, we would be going more backwards, even with the people who cut their hair today; everyone knows the importance of the true Rehat and they try to respect it even if they themselves don't necessarily practice it. Giving up Sikhi to increase numbers will do us no good.

Now ask yourself, are the poor being protected in this world? Are the sinners (classic examples like Hitler or Auranzeb) punished in this world? Not necessarily. Plenty of killers and tyrants got off scot free or at the most were killed. So just one death in return for hundreds or thousands of killings?

What about people like Ravan or Harnakash who get Mukti despite being tyrants?

I heard that there are some sins which cant be forgiven such as these people who went to gurdwara to do wrong on Guru Granth Sahib Ji *waheguru waheguru*.

Or also adultery, where the person will live 1000 days of hell. But is this true? I cant understand of  course the first thing. Someone who does this should rot in hell. But what about someone does a mistake, because they are so attached to one person? Are there really sins which cant be forgiven? I thought Waheguru forgives everyone who chooses the path oh Waheguru Ji.

    And how does Waheguru forgive?

I believe I heard a Sakhi that if even Aurangzeb was willing to ask for forgiveness from Guru Sahib that even he could be forgiven. The difference between disrespecting Guru Sahib is that he was Vaheguru himself, but Guru Sahib forgave Ram Rai in 10th form, (even if Ram Raiya are still excommunicated from the panth today). That said, those who make mistake should go away from their mistakes.

Would you ever date a non religious person? I am not speaking about an atheist, but more so someone who is not very religious.

Let’s say they let you stay close to your religion & culture and are ok with passing down your culture/values to future children. Do you think that’s ok?

I think I’ve met the perfect person however he’s not very religious. He belongs to a different culture however our cultures are similar and compatible. All of my values line up and they are extremely respectful.

I don't really believe in the western concept of dating, but if they are openly doing the 4 Bhujer Kurehits they simply aren't compatible with someone who doesn't do the 4 Bhujer Kurehits. It's easy to be friends with them, but when there isn't a compatibility spiritually; where does it actually go?

True. But, someone who is in the above categories will not volunteer to be a member of the Panj Piyare. Generally, non-practicing Sikhs know they're doing wrong and do not generally object to those who are living in the Rehit.

Also, generally, Rehitvan Sikhs don't care that non-practicing Sikhs drink alcohol, cut their hair or whatever. It's just that they would object if someone tried to change the fundamentals of Sikhism.

In the past, when someone had to go for Tankhya for non-Bhujer Kurehits, they wouldn't have went specifically at Amrit Sanchars to get punishments and would get punishments from Sangat, (of which Punj Pyare would be selected). Non-Amritdharis still have never been giving punishments for Tankhya to Amritdharis, (which accounts for 80-90% of the sangat).

Does anyone have any idea as to why Sikhs have the lowest birth rate in India? Isn’t one of our main teachings to create a family? Just a couple decades ago, our grandparents were having 8+ children, smh. Sometimes I think modernisation is a big mistake.

Sikhs tend to be one of the most educated groups in India, other educated groups in India like the Jains also have very low birth rates per women. The difference between the old generation and our Sikhs now is that their very thinking was different. (Women would marry around puberty time same for men), also monogamy wasn't exactly required from the old generation, so one man could have a few wives assuming enough men would die from infant mortality or in battle.

Infertility rates are increasing around the world

    Sperm counts are dropping.

Post vaccine Covid, birth rates have plummeted with increased rates of still births etc (not insinuating anything here hmm..hmm.)

Testosterone rates are dropping in men over the decades (apparently this is due to the increase in plastics and all those xeno-estrogens )

Currently the world population is 8 billion but I reckon this will drop in the next 50 years.

So what makes certain communities increase fertility rate like those in African and Muslim countries?

Its depressing actually to see this..i thought it was initially Afghani Sikhs but Punjabi are same with halal meat ..

thats being said there has been census that majority of Sikhs dont eat meat in India more so then hindus!

Yes, but Sikhs outside of Punjab within India also eat meat, even some proportions of Amritdharis in other states in India eat meat at restaurants.

Very interesting how the Hindu population is also increased quite considerably.

It is no coincidence that the significant increase of Hindus has impacted the Sikh political protests.

Whereas previously Sikhs in Canada had little open opposition  (my observation ) , there does seem to be an influx of Hindutva types in Canada.

It does seem that the India Hindu groups have begun to assert themselves in western countries like Canada and Australia.

I suspect when the UK census comes out, the Hindu population is going to be a lot higher.

This seems to have played a part of the increased Hindu assertiveness against the muslims in Leicester. A lot of the Hindu mob like behaviour in the UK (as per some reports ) come from more recent migrants and they seem to come from particular parts of India.

There were Sikh-Hindu in Australia and the Hindu migrants came from Haryana.

Typically Hindu migrants (India not Sri Lanka)came from certain areas like Gujurat, Punjab, they are now coming from all other areas and they are not all white collar IT types.

Hindutva India seems to be strategically migrating people to keep overseas diasporas in check.

I mean to the western governments, a Hindu economic migrant from Gujurat is equal to a Sikh economic migrant from Punjab.

There are plenty of those Amritdhari Nihangs who don't support Khalistan nor fan of Sant Ji, yet you will find panthic mona who are more 'ready to die' for the panth and with Sant ji tattoos etc typical jatt types

lets not forget dr swaiman and what Deep Sidhu did for panth...

Then you got the likes of kps gill, beant, capt arminder badals and all these gaddars with turbans who are 'Sikhs'..and those half hindu/Sikh types... its all just a mess ... another thing i respect muslims is at least majority of them stick together for issues like political palestine for example...but our moorkahs from full on kesdhari who dont even support Khalistan or Sikh issues ...

@proudkaur21 my mums masi family majority live in BC and i could say from at least 20-30 from couple families of cousins not ONE Singh with kes even the grandads...they all live in their millionaire houses, huge land and no slightest interest in Sikh, panthic issues nothing. At least UK thanks to pakistanis Sikhs had to step it up cos they saw threat over there most buried heads in the sand and killing each other. One cousin born in Punjab moved Canada came visit this summer and i was asking thoughts about whats happening in Punjab Khalistan and he could not care at all. He said he didn't understand why they did vigil for Deep Sidhu in local area and i asked him does he go to Gurudwara he say 'God is everywhere' 😭They got so much potential esp when they dont need to work worry about bills to grow the panth.

The panthic Khalsa seems dil-saaf and liberals types too from what i see.

Here's the thing, even our greatest Gursikhs in this century can't compare to even the weaker Sikhs who took Amrit from Guru Sahib in until 1708. What we need to do now is to follow Sikhi to the best of our abilities along with being more intelligent in how the real world works.

On the one hand you're talking about Sant Ji tattoos while in actual Gurmat tattoos aren't ever allowed, (imagine if Singhs in Puratan times had tattoos of Baba Deep Singh Ji or something).
